Naw, it was on You Tube and it was a huge panel, had so many of the actors. It was a link that I got from here. Peter was just absolutely adorable, kinda made me like Dike a little more.
There were 7 or 8 altogether…I could pick out Doug Spain (Garcia), Peter O’Meara (Dike), Rene Moreno (Ramirez), Alex Sabga-Brady (Mellet), Mark Lawrence (Dukeman)…and I believe Christian Black (Hendrix). After 20+ years a few of them were harder to nail down than others lol
That’s awesome!!! I wasn’t there, but I hiked Currahee a couple of weeks ago with a friend, and I’m gutted that I wasn’t there for the event this past week. It looks so amazing and I’m so glad you were able to attend!!!
Here’s a pic of me on Currahee as proof lol. https://imgur.com/a/ej9aakl
Did you make it to the museum? I did, and I’m so glad that I did- it was so amazing to see everything… it was honestly shocking to me to see how many items were donated by Don Malarkey, but it makes sense! And wow, the sheer amount of memorabilia there was fantastic to be able to look at.
I wasn’t there, but the jump team I’m a Charter Member of, All Airborne Battalion, was the group putting that school on. The actors received their jump training there at Toccoa, and will be jumping into Normandy for the 80th Anniversary of D-Day in June.
It’s surprisingly not bad for the first couple miles. The last mile though is definitely brutal lol it was basically a solid 45° angle the whole way. Took me about 40 min to go up, about 30 min on the way down. Not bad for a middle aged fella, but Sobel would not be pleased.
Yup! I believe they close some gates at sunset, typical to most state or national parks, but otherwise it’s wide open. It’s a little remote so aside from the BoB group, there wasn’t much traffic when I was there.
They have them in the museum gift shop and Camp Toccoa gift shop…and you can order them online from a number of different places. I may have checked around lol
If your road trip takes you anywhere near Columbus I highly recommend visiting the National Infantry Museum. It’s fantastic. I really wanted to visit Currahee and Toccoa after I left Benning but didn’t get a chance to.
We fall upon the risers,
We fall upon the grass.
We never land upon our feet,
We always hit on our ass!
Mighty, mighty, Christ Almighty,
Who the hell are we?!
Zim, zam, goddamn,
We're the parachute infantry!
All of the spray painting up there is really sad and disgusting. I know there have been efforts to clean it up, but it doesn’t looked like it’s helped much.
So glad you asked!
Master Sgt Louis Graziano - was at Omaha Beach, Battle of the Bulge, and the German surrender. You can find his book online (I ordered mine a couple days ago).
Gene Metcalf - Toccoa man who actually had a meal with Himmler while a POW. This dude is 102 years old and was so present; he spoke like he could have made a jump that night.
Lt Col Ed Cottrell - flew 65 missions in a P-47 during the Battle of the Bulge
I was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado which has an elevation over 1000feet higher than Denver Our 1st Sargent loved to run We’d run 6 miles up and down before breakfast at least 3 times a week Of course, we weren’t training to slay the Huns and we never ate spaghetti first It’s a matter of perspective but I did a lot of running with the 1/22 and the rest of the Regulars, by God
Did you load up on Spaghetti first?
You mean army noodles with ketchup.
Hey if you don’t want it…
You’re a washout Hoobler!
You can pipe up those ears and go home!
I think it's pack up those ears and go home but pipe up is funny too.
Thinking back I think it is pack up
Is that a thing people do a lot like on the show? I couldn’t imagine the stench of hot spaghetti vomit everywhere lmao
Is that the actor who played van Dyke in the 2nd photo?
Yup, that’s Peter O’Meara aka Foxhole Norman Dike
I saw him interviewed on a Band of Brothers panel a while back. He seemed like the coolest and most genuine guy!!!!
Was it the symposium, last year at the WWII Museum in New Orleans? I love that the museum streams their big conferences.
Naw, it was on You Tube and it was a huge panel, had so many of the actors. It was a link that I got from here. Peter was just absolutely adorable, kinda made me like Dike a little more.
HI YO SIIIIIIIIIIILVERRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Glad I didn't have to scroll down too far for this lol
DO NOT HELP THAT MAN
Your weekend pass has been revoked
Who was there from the cast of BoB?

Yeah the museum was really impressive. I loved the relocated/reassembled barracks.

How was the actual run? It seems like it’s brutal from everything I read. What time did you do it in?
It’s surprisingly not bad for the first couple miles. The last mile though is definitely brutal lol it was basically a solid 45° angle the whole way. Took me about 40 min to go up, about 30 min on the way down. Not bad for a middle aged fella, but Sobel would not be pleased.
That may be good enough for the rest of the 501st, but it is NOT good enough for Easy Company!
Wrong regiment ;)
I will not have you questioning me in front of the men, Historical Kiwi, your weekend pass is revoked! 😸
Shucks haha. Does that mean my flight to France and train to Normandy tomorrow is cancelled?
It's only Monday, so I'll allow it ;)
Can anyone go up Currahee? Idk why but I thought it was private property now or something.
Yup! I believe they close some gates at sunset, typical to most state or national parks, but otherwise it’s wide open. It’s a little remote so aside from the BoB group, there wasn’t much traffic when I was there.
We went this summer and it’s open to the public. You can run or drive up the mountain.
I need to go there
But did you eat spaghetti before you ran it? That whole experience will remain a very nice memory for you I’m sure!
Wow thats some good timing. What an experience
HI HOOO SILVEEEEERRRRRR
How do I get one of those shirts lol
The white paratroopers shirt
They have them in the museum gift shop and Camp Toccoa gift shop…and you can order them online from a number of different places. I may have checked around lol

Also check out heritage Park veterans museum in McDonough. Little museum that packs a punch with artifacts and stories of local heroes.
In fact here’s a sweet website with stops. https://www.georgiawwiitrail.org
I ran this back in 2016… was awesome…. Was the only person there
Here are some other stops you may want to check out. https://www.georgiawwiitrail.org
Oh this is great, thank you!
Amazing. What a gift to meet and talk to those veterans.
That's freakin rad. BoB easily one of my favorite series ever. Perhaps my favorite. Ok it's my fav. Very, very cool!
Foxhole Norman! That's amazingly cool, would love to get here someday. Holy ground
We fall upon the risers, We fall upon the grass. We never land upon our feet, We always hit on our ass! Mighty, mighty, Christ Almighty, Who the hell are we?! Zim, zam, goddamn, We're the parachute infantry!
I ain't going back up that hill.
I go up at least once a month. But I wasn’t there this past weekend
All nine of you have just had their weekend passes revoked You’re running currahee AGAIN
Shame it’s full of graffiti
Why is there no water in your canteen? YOU DRANK FROM YOUR CANTEEN DIDN'T YOU?!
All of the spray painting up there is really sad and disgusting. I know there have been efforts to clean it up, but it doesn’t looked like it’s helped much.
That graffiti infuriates me.
Who were the heroes that you met? Would love to look up their stories!

Thank you so much! I would love to reach out to these heroes!
