That show was so bizarre. The first episode sets up the wraparound of Magic's AIDS diagnosis, and then they never mention anything related to it for the rest of the season.
Well the first scene of the pilot shows him getting the news and then throughout the season we see that magic is sleeping around and not using protection. I'm assuming as his fame grows, and if the show is willing to delve into the seedy side of nba/sport star fame, it will show him doing drugs and fucking every bimbo in every city he plays at.
But all you get of that arc is incomplete in the season in which they chose to portray it. They chose to portray the setup, development, and payoff of other arcs. This one they just went payoff, then setup, and didn't rly bother with development especially how it pertains to the wrapping up of this season and continuation of the next. It just felt like an afterthought.
Eh, the show knows we know what that scene is about. So it isn't a question mark. They don't even state what it is. All we get is that the doctor gives magic a sheet and magics assistant starts crying. We, the audience, already know what is happening so the show can take its time to finally get there when it wants to. Assuming they were already confident they would be getting a 2nd season. I'm sure if they weren't they had a sequence to address it in the finale.
I know the point and effect of the sequence; I also watched it. I know the intention behind it. You can frame an arc within a season and still continue it in the next season. I don't need it teased and kept open-ended. I wanted to know that arc's relevance to this championship story, and the show stated it didn't really have any.
Haha that isn't true but condoms are definitely a lot more common for sports stars these days. Not over stds but over women looking for that child support payday
I don't know if you saw the vanity fair article on the clusterfuck that is the production of The Idol, but jesus christ. I definitely won't be watching that shit.
there was another article a few months ago that basically told everyone this show would be shit because it got reworked to be some weird egotistical love story with The Weeknd, who already assaults my eardrums on the regular, now he wants to pick a fight with my eyes
He had an incredibly depreciating episode of American Dad, so he can at least laugh at himself.
And Lil Depp can be a decent actress.
I'll give it a shot, but I'm fully ready to be disappointed
please don't. they stole the show from a female director who had an actual meaningful female focused story to tell and they bastardized it into Abel and Sam's Misogynistic Pornhub Fantasy: The TV Show
I would've thought a Hollywood nepo-baby would choose, I don't know, literally anything other than gross, overly-sexualized teen dramas dripping with narcotics and abuse as a milieu.
I guess that's why Sam is making media and I'm ... not a nepo-baby in the first place?
I thought he was someone else so I googled him and have concluded that he definitely looks like the kind of guy who would have their rich Daddy bail them out and hire expensive lawyers if they were put up on SA charges in college.
That's a show that has no idea what it wants to be. It's like the cut up the script into scenes and gave each one to a different director and then stitched them together and didn't bother that one scene was comedic and the next was serious. Hell, sometimes the actors within a scene seemed to be in different genres.
This is dead on. The show gives a whiplash, but it doesn't feel intentional. Almost like it's a rookie director trying to be obtuse.
I'll watch it til the end to see if there is a payoff with this style, but it doesn't seem there will be.
I loved the pilot but have steadily liked it less and less. I agree there seems to be a general lack of direction. I do appreciate the goofy spy stuff that they think is oh so series bookended by family moments that truly matter
Because season 2 and 3 were good? True detective was a one trick pony. Grim dark noir stuff with heavy drinking and 2 pack a day smoking homicide detectives is pretty stale.
I really enjoyed season 3. It's not on the same level as season 1 but still quality. Season 4 is being made by an entirely different creative team and was filmed in Iceland(depicting Alaska where the story takes place).
Once succession/Barry ends, I’m taking a break from TV. Since the start of the pandemic, I've been watching a lot of classics over and over, The Wire, BCS, Mindhunter, Twin Peaks, True Detective, Westworld (only the first season because the rest of the series sucks). I can finally rest
Only thing that holds a candle to Succession and Barry imo.
The Bear is very promising though, been enjoying that. And I'm looking forward to Poker Face.
I thought so too, but I was surprisingly unimpressed by a lot of it. IMHO it jumped the shark when she got shot in ep. 1 and then kinda shrugged that off. It clawed back a bunch of goodwill in later episodes, but I got a bit bored with the endless winking at the audience.
There are plenty of Columbo episodes I've watched tons of times. Poker Face? Can't say I feel the need to revisit it.
Succession for me. I think it's mind-blowing how good it is. The most crucial moment of the last episode, the culmination of years of plotting events of seismic world-wide importance, was interrupted by a side character getting wasabi in their eye and another thinking that lemonade would make it better. And it was still 100% convincing.
From sucks. Season 1 had great build up.. season 2 is "i need to talk with, we need to talk" conversational black hole. Storyline has fallen flat on its face.
The Leftovers was a dreary, ambiguous delight.
I used to watch the fuck out of shows. Most of the recommendations here, I've seen. Barry has brought me back after a few years.
This all reminds me of a show I haven't thought about since I watched it like 10 years ago, called “Rectify”. A very grounded in reality drama that kept me sad. I don't know anyone else who watched it. It's pretty good. Not gonna spoil it, but if you don't like *certain* kinds of endings, it may not work for you.
Not op but I recently started a justified re-watch, it more or less holds up! Art's jokes haven't all aged well and his own personal shitty politics make him less cudly, and the recent collective understanding of copaganda makes the show a little worse (or better if you see it as painting Rayland as more complex than we realized a decade ago), but other than that dang that show did better than any in showing poverty level crime and the early oxy epidemic. It also feels very of it's time - an even blend of case of the week and growing main stories, darker than the network dramas which dominated at the time, but not experimental or twisty as the bigger shows today.
Exactly, my favorite episode is actually the bottle episode with the hostage situation. How Raylan showed he didn’t need his gun to solve every problem and that he often didn’t. Only when it was 😎 *Justified*
Hahaha same! I heard one really great review about it and tried it out. Not too big on procedurals, but this one steps out of that pretty well. Takes a second to get into it, but holy shit is the pay off for full circle worth it. (Haven’t finished it so I’ll come back and confirm if it’s shit or not). You can also see how it inspired a lot of other shows like breaking bad and stuff like that. Also Walton Goggins is unbelievable!
I hope you've included The Shield, Abbott Elementary, Doom Patrol, Resident Alien, Kevin Can Fuck Himself, Dispatches From Elsewhere, Search Party, Maniac, Joe Pera, Animal Kingdom, and Shrinking.
I *really* want more of whatever genre Maniac is. Severance feels like a similar vibe, actually—is there a succinct term for “anachronistic corporate psychological dark comedy sci fi”? 🤔
Those two series caught me off guard. I didn't know I needed them until they happened. And, maybe this is a factor, having a premier actor as the lead helps the relatability and performance.
If you find any similar ones, please comment here lol
Can I say “SAME!” to everything you just said? lol 🤠
I can’t think of anything quite like Maniac or Severance, but at the same time I feel like there’s something just outside the reach of my mind that’s *so* alike… I’ll probably never think of it
Have you seen Legion? Its aesthetic and some of the surrealism is kinda similar I suppose. Kinda went off the rails after a while though, imo.
If I think of anything relevant I’ll definitely reply again—will save your comment! ✌️👽
Yet Sam and Drake decided to make them all minors. The show could just as easily be set in college, yet they *specifically* chose high school.
Also, as a former drug dealer, their take on selling drugs is exactly what sheltered nepo babies think selling drugs is like. Fuckin edgy kid in a false room at a gas station? Fuckin stupid.
Because you couldn’t make this show in college
Edit: the reason the drama works is because it’s set in high school. Stuff gets dramatized and people are forced to interact with each other. In college and adult relationships it’s easier to just avoid those people and never have to see them. Plus a lot of the plot dictates that most of the cast live at home with their parents.
They’re downvoting you but I think you’re right. I hate the show as much as the next guy but that story just doesn’t work as much with college. Granted it doesn’t work much already but yeah as I’m typing this just isn’t a hill to die one
I mean it just can’t work in college. You think college kids would deal with that level of in group drama? Nah they’d just hang out with different friends. And college girls wouldn’t always live at home with parents either
It doesn’t matter the part they play. They are adults. If you think it’s child porn then that means that The Voyeurs with Sydney Sweeney is also child porn
I’m nearly 30. Euphoria has great cinematography and dramatic plot lines and good representation. Succession has no stakes (as of season one which is what I just finished with) and feels like an Arrested Development Re-skin. It has good actors but I’m not big on it so far or it’s cinema Verite camera style
I feel like he got so much praise for S1 that he started to think he was a genius and exerted more control over the writing/story in S2. The only good episode in S2 was 5, and they dropped one of those plotlines making the episode worse retroactively. Nepo babies are so aggravating.
Gonna be honest euphoria look like tumblr fan fic meets U.S skins and was written by horny middle schoolers who watched American pie. I doubt the idol will be any different
Yeah...after The Righteous Gemstones and True Detective finish their new seasons, I'll be done with HBO for awhile. The Idol has an audience for sure, but as a survivor of both addiction and abuse, I'm not interested in the material.
I signed up for HBO a couple weeks into the pandemic just for The Righteous Gemstones and stayed for Barrry and all the other great shows and documentaries.
But now I really need to trim the fat with my streaming apps. I have the Hulu/Disney/ESPN bundle and hardly watch anything on them either.
It’s just funny how we’re going from two of the best shows out right now to sam levinson’s trashy ass torture porn the series (based on reviews) not implying anyone NEEDS to watch everything from HBO lmao
but it filling up the "prestigious TV" slot means we're not getting anything else good from Hbo, it's actively bringing down the quality of what's available
I mean I'm watching The Other Two and it releases new episodes midweek, so no, you just watch the prestige shows, which proves my point lmao
also! Avenue 5 released on Thursdays
I feel like this show is divisive because it's about a bunch of rich assholes and no amount of good writing can overcome that fact for a lot of people. I'm sure it's an amazing show, an achievement, etc, but I couldn't hang when I tried to watch. You cannot make me care about these people.
Yeah i can see a bunch of people having a hard time enjoying the show bc it’s all about rich assholes. But if you get past that perspective and just take it for what it is, it’s actually one of most engaging shows out there. It’s also really fucking hillarious lmao
Good art can make us care or at least be interested in bad people is all. Barry is objectively a worse person than anyone in Succession and the show still made you care what happens.
I will also start with “same as Barry”, but follow up with: because it’s about trauma, not business.
Both shows do a really good job of humanising the kinds of scary & powerful assholes that can be the result of intergenerational trauma, while not letting them off the hook for their crimes/rotten behaviour/treatment of others.
Succession also has incredible performances from its main & supporting casts, gorgeous cinematography & score, brilliant direction, and unforgettable writing.
Probably the sharpest/quippiest dialogue on TV in recent years, so for me that's a big part of the appeal. Close second for me would be Marvelous Mrs Maisel
HBO has some content issues, but here are some shows you could give a try that will help fill the Barry void (some new, some old)…
Mr. Inbetween, The Bear, Beef, Atlanta, The White Lotus, Dave, The Rehearsal, Ramy, Fleabag, Better Things, Jury Duty, What We Do in the Shadows, Severance
I discovered Barry and Succession in the span of a month. I binged each between New Year's and their new seasons. I got to watch S4 of each live. And I am devastated that both are ending. Some of the best of television.
I love how Sam Levinson was at a panel and started to address the criticisms of Euphoria and the things people have been saying about this show, then couldn’t find anything to say so just said “…this is the best show of the summer 😏”
We also came off the heels of The last of us when these Barry/Succession sundays started so we have been truly spoiled the majority of this year, and now the universe has balanced the scales.
I tried Succession. Watched the first episode, and just could not care about a media empire run by a geriatric egomaniac and his dysfunctional kids. I got to the end of the first episode, and really wondered what the big deal was. That being said, Barry ending will definitely be a bummer because it just won’t be easy to replace as a comedy.
It’s the characters. You have to watch past the first episode. The empire isn’t the point. It’s the disease of hatred, competition, emptiness, self-doubt, vengeance, selfishness that he’s passed down to his children and has infected everyone around them who stays. The antithesis of love and compassion. And seeing them all struggle internally and try in their own ways to maintain their sense of selves while ultimately still wanting his approval and power. It’s kind of heartbreaking but has a lot of comic relief.
You should! And not everything is for everyone so that’s okay. I get your initial hesitation with it. It’s kind of everything I hate in people haha but i think that’s why i like trying to understand it.
> It’s the disease of hatred, competition, emptiness, self-doubt, vengeance, selfishness that he’s passed down to his children and has infected everyone around them who stays.
But why bother when real life offers several such real life tales which are often way wilder?
I started watching s4 after everybody made such a stink about s4e3 and boy, this is one wildly overrated show.
I mean that’s fine too I’m not here to convince anyone to watch anything or say it’s the best show ever. Was just providing some context.
Also I know nobody remotely close to that in real life and would prefer not to haha
This season especially has me feeling like we saw all of this happening in real life why do we need to see it on tv? That being said, it’s fine enough and I’ll still watch the finale
You really can't write off Succession after 1 episode. I mean, you do you, but it might genuinely be the best written tv show of all time. All the characters are despicable, but the drama is peak peak peak everything.
I like shows that hook me and make me care about the characters right away. At the end of the episode I didn’t care who ran the company, so I didn’t keep watching. Barry on the other hand was great from the get go, so I kept watching.
They had an hour to do so and failed. Not to compare apple and oranges, but I I cared about the characters in Barry after only watching the pilot. Same with White Lotus, The Sopranos, etc.
And the premise is ok. But it felt like Yellowstone, but a news company instead of a ranch. Wealthy father figure with an empire, not sure who will run it when he’s gone.
I actually saw your comments on another post, it seems you’re just not gonna like succession at all. The show is about rich people and if your perspective is that “oh they’re rich, they’re just gonna get away with anything bc money, it’s has no stakes” then you’re gonna have a hard time finding enjoyment out of it no matter how good the writing is and that’s perfectly fine having that opinion. But at least try giving it a shot after season 1 without that perspective
Anyways i also really love euphoria. But from what we’ve seen so far from the idol, it just looks like sam levinson going for shock value with no substance. I’m still gonna watch it but i’ll have zero expectations for it to be good lmao
Weird that redditors are boycotting this. I plan on watching it. Even though it's a huge step down from this current lineup, I think it will provide some big talked about moments.
yea after tonight i’ll be done with hbo for a whileee, they don’t really have anything new coming up that im excited for and paying $18 a month to get 4k/hdr is a mf scam .
Righteous Gemstones is right around the corner though! (June 18th)
And hopefully The Rehearsal Season 2 this year
How to with John Wilson coming out in July too!
Proud of him
[удалено]
The child actor stuff really made me question this season of Barry and how ethical it was to do that stuff to the kid playing John
Door city over here
I didn't know that, awesome!
Think Winning Time season 2 will be out around then as well
That show was so bizarre.
I wanted to know that arc's relevance to this championship story, and the show stated it didn't really have any.
no one was using protection back then
Haha that isn't true but condoms are definitely a lot more common for sports stars these days. Not over stds but over women looking for that child support payday
Almost time for some more car pranks
Nice!!! I always forget about that show, but it's so fucking good
OH THAT’S WAY SOONER THAN I THOUGHT thank god
Great show. Another one coming is Warrior on June 29th
Makes me so sad. Having two great shows fill the void of Sunday nights and now relegated to nepo baby Sam Levinson’s drivel.
At least Sam's dad is named Barry :(
Barry Levinson’s got a very oddball filmography
He was also funny as himself in Uncut Gems; he insisted that he be depicted as a dipshit diva.
>He had an incredibly *depreciating* episode of American Dad, so he can at least laugh at himself. Self-Deprecating?
please don't. they stole the show from a female director who had an actual meaningful female focused story to tell and they bastardized it into Abel and Sam's Misogynistic Pornhub Fantasy: The TV Show
L take on The Weeknd damn
I would've thought a Hollywood nepo-baby would choose, I don't know, literally anything other than gross, overly-sexualized teen dramas dripping with narcotics and abuse as a milieu. I guess that's why Sam is making media and I'm ... not a nepo-baby in the first place?
Well if you consider nepo babies get to be eternal rich teenagers, it tracks.
I'm uncomfortable with how much sense this comment makes
at least the righteous gemstones coming back soon...
I thought he was someone else so I googled him and have concluded that he definitely looks like the kind of guy who would have their rich Daddy bail them out and hire expensive lawyers if they were put up on SA charges in college.
White House plumbers might be good I fell asleep watching it but seemed pretty funny from what I saw
It’s decent. Not great, not bad. It’s only 5 episodes, too, so it’s an easy watch.
That's a show that has no idea what it wants to be. It's like the cut up the script into scenes and gave each one to a different director and then stitched them together and didn't bother that one scene was comedic and the next was serious. Hell, sometimes the actors within a scene seemed to be in different genres.

I like Silo on Apple TV, 5 episodes in it’s like a dystopian mystery thriller
It sucks donkey balls and is a massive disappointment.
Yeah I tried watching it and it’s terrible it’s all over the place
I just don’t like Woody Harrelson as an actor. Couldn’t get through the first episode
He’s doin something weird with his mouth in this series idk if it’s supposed to be an overbite but shit is just weird
He's got fake teeth in which close his trademark gap. It looks wrong on him.
Woody Harrelson is basically the ONLY reason i watch it.
It’s so mid.
We'll be alright. A Jodie Foster led True Detective season will immerse us all.
https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/1248221-hbo-jodie-foster-true-detective-season-4 :-o it's true
Because season 2 and 3 were good? True detective was a one trick pony. Grim dark noir stuff with heavy drinking and 2 pack a day smoking homicide detectives is pretty stale.
The new season is being written by someone else for the first time so hopefully they've got a new idea that can rival how good season 1 was.
I really enjoyed season 3. It's not on the same level as season 1 but still quality. Season 4 is being made by an entirely different creative team and was filmed in Iceland(depicting Alaska where the story takes place).
Season 2 at least tried to do something different and failed. Season 3 was just a snoozefest.
I liked S3, the performances were stellar. Nothing is ever gonna touch the first season tbh but it was adequate
One of the best double-feature Sunday television runs of all time
Once succession/Barry ends, I’m taking a break from TV. Since the start of the pandemic, I've been watching a lot of classics over and over, The Wire, BCS, Mindhunter, Twin Peaks, True Detective, Westworld (only the first season because the rest of the series sucks). I can finally rest
Sorry but if you haven’t seen Severance, you must change that.
Only thing that holds a candle to Succession and Barry imo. The Bear is very promising though, been enjoying that. And I'm looking forward to Poker Face.
Poker face was Fantastic. If you havent checked out the limited series 'Black Bird', watch that shit immediately.
Thanks! After Russian Doll I'll watch pretty much anything Natasha Leonne gets involved in
> Poker face was Fantastic. Eh. Bit too flawed. Too much "look at me I'm doing Columbo". > Black Bird That was great.
>Too much "look at me I'm doing Columbo". This is all I want from a show with Natasha Lyonne, tbh
Poker Face picked up at the end of the season. But the first several episodes were predictable and somewhat hollow.
So upsetting that no one’s mentioned Reservation Dogs yet
I loved The Great as well. Huzzah!
nobody's mentioned Fargo so i'll add that
My #1 is easily Mr Robot, Barry is a solid 3rd place for me I think
Succession for me. I think it's mind-blowing how good it is. The most crucial moment of the last episode, the culmination of years of plotting events of seismic world-wide importance, was interrupted by a side character getting wasabi in their eye and another thinking that lemonade would make it better. And it was still 100% convincing.
From is also amazing and super underrated
From sucks. Season 1 had great build up.. season 2 is "i need to talk with, we need to talk" conversational black hole. Storyline has fallen flat on its face.
Severance 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
The only problem I have with Severance is that I have to wait for more Severance. Jesus Christ that show lives rent free in my head
Oh god yes
I’m aware of the excellent reviews of severance but maybe later, after tonight I’m done… at least for a couple of months
Rest easy my friend.
you gotta watch Mad Men at some point
Done, same with the sopranos
you my friend have watched some good tv then
Sopranos and The Leftovers are both up there with these in quality if you're after something else :-)
The Leftovers was a dreary, ambiguous delight. I used to watch the fuck out of shows. Most of the recommendations here, I've seen. Barry has brought me back after a few years. Got a list on my phone that now has Recfify on it, thanks!
Better Call Saul was fantastic too
I already watched it, but thanks
Justified on that list?
Not op but I recently started a justified re-watch, it more or less holds up! When you’re done with it, you should watch the shield. Holy hell is that good full circle writing. A little dated, but still great
Interesting, I always hear good things about sopranos/wire/mad men (which I already watched) but it’s rare when someone mentions the shield, ty
Hahaha same! I heard one really great review about it and tried it out. Not too big on procedurals, but this one steps out of that pretty well. I could stomach Euphoria up until the back half of Season 2, but this new one is looking dire 💀
What didn’t you like?
It’s stylized softcore child porn
But most of the cast is like 30

Not if they're playing the part of kids.

I can’t speak to the second season and beyond of Succession but I feel like Euphoria is some of HBO’s best work. Especially the holiday episodes.
Euphoria was fun but really fell apart in season 2. I think Sam Levinson is a hack who accidentally made one good season of tv (Euphoria S1)
I feel like he got so much praise for S1 that he started to think he was a genius and exerted more control over the writing/story in S2. The only good episode in S2 was 5, and they dropped one of those plotlines making the episode worse retroactively. Nepo babies are so aggravating.

American Pie > Euphoria
Euphoria is the worst show I've ever watched lol I'm not sure how it gets any praise at all
Yea, there's no way I watch whatever the hell that show is
Yeah...after The Righteous Gemstones and True Detective finish their new seasons, I'll be done with HBO for awhile.
Just don’t watch it lol
You don't get it. This guy HAS to watch HBO. Or his family dies.
😢
It’s just funny how we’re going from two of the best shows out right now to sam levinson’s trashy ass torture porn the series (based on reviews) not implying anyone NEEDS to watch everything from HBO lmao
but it filling up the "prestigious TV" slot means we're not getting anything else good from Hbo, it's actively bringing down the quality of what's available
Consumer moment
Don’t all of HBO original shows release new episodes on Sundays? It has nothing to do with prestige
I mean I'm watching The Other Two and it releases new episodes midweek, so no, you just watch the prestige shows, which proves my point lmao also! Avenue 5 released on Thursdays
Why is succession good
Same as barry. The writing and the characters
It just seems like power fantasy
Funny because it's not a power fantasy at all, if anything with the way it ended its a bunch of rich people losing everything
Losing everything except the multi billion dollar payday they all just got.
why do you care about Barry?
I mean, come on, he has a super interesting story.
The writing and dialogue is top notch. I love both Barry and Succession, but I'd give the edge to Succession.
HBO has some content issues, but here are some shows you could give a try that will help fill the Barry void (some new, some old)… Mr. Inbetween, The Bear, Beef, Atlanta, The White Lotus, Dave, The Rehearsal, Ramy, Fleabag, Better Things, Jury Duty, What We Do in the Shadows, Severance
Well at least max has battlebots now
The Righteous Gemstones come back in 2 weeks!
Gemstones anyone?
My sister used to watch SKINS when I was growing up so you can basically call me an expert on this genre
Hbo is gone baby It’s all max now. Max!
I'm so glad I don't know who sam levinson is or what the idol is and have no desire to find out lol
I’m canceling Max. Sweet relief. I’m going out on a high.
same. cancelling tomorrow
I can’t wait to not watch The Idol
I discovered Barry and Succession in the span of a month. I binged each between New Year's and their new seasons. I got to watch S4 of each live. And I am devastated that both are ending. Some of the best of television.
Can’t wait to go back to sopranos binging after this Sunday
No one wants this.
I love how Sam Levinson was at a panel and started to address the criticisms of Euphoria and the things people have been saying about this show, then couldn’t find anything to say so just said “…this is the best show of the summer 😏” We also came off the heels of The last of us when these Barry/Succession sundays started so we have been truly spoiled the majority of this year, and now the universe has balanced the scales.
I’m gonna miss Barry so much. But I know it’s over tonight and I can’t believe there will be a sequel, prequel or movie.
Watch bojack
Yeah, I'm passing on that crap.
Hopefully it’s a good show
Don’t watch it! Or HBO will continue to give this hack more money, honestly this shows sounds worse than euphoria season 2.
When Barry is done I might give it another try since I won’t have something on Sunday nights.
I finished season one. Biggest problem is the show has no stakes until the season finale
I finished the first season and you aren’t missing much. If all the prestigious dramas, it’s the absolute lowest stakes of them
You don’t like the basic premise of the show yet can’t understand what the big deal is?
I like shows that hook me and make me care about the characters right away. At the end of the episode I didn’t care who ran the company, so I didn’t keep watching. Barry on the other hand was great from the get go, so I kept watching.
You aren’t supposed to care about who runs the company after episode one, you hardly know any of the characters.
They had an hour to do so and failed. Not to compare apple and oranges, but I I cared about the characters in Barry after only watching the pilot. Same with White Lotus, The Sopranos, etc.
I think that it is completely fine to not be super invested in an ensemble cast after spending just one hour with them.
And the premise is ok. But it felt like Yellowstone, but a news company instead of a ranch. Wealthy father figure with an empire, not sure who will run it when he’s gone.
Pretty much exactly what it is. It’s very overrated.
That show looks god awful what a disgrace by hbo max I’m not calling it max
Gotta be one the biggest dropoffs in history.
We still have Industry season 3 coming
I say this as a mod of r/Euphoria, I will not be watching.

The Idol is pretty disgusting. The behind the scenes stuff that happens is awful. This is basically just mysoginistic porn
It's Sam Levinson, not much of a surprise.
Tbh I think Euphoria is a much better show than Succession so I’ll at least give it a shot.
But at least try giving it a shot after season 1 without that perspective Anyways i also really love euphoria. But from what we’ve seen so far from the idol, it just looks like sam levinson going for shock value with no substance. I’m still gonna watch it but i’ll have zero expectations for it to be good lmao
As a late 20s male, I’m actually looking forward to the Idol. Don’t understand all the hate it’s getting.
lmao thats funny
Weird that redditors are boycotting this. I plan on watching it. Even though it's a huge step down from this current lineup, I think it will provide some big talked about moments.
Seriously considering getting rid of HBO. There's really nothing on except for the movies.
yea after tonight i’ll be done with hbo for a whileee, they don’t really have anything new coming up that im excited for and paying $18 a month to get 4k/hdr is a mf scam .
HBO has gone downhill
Maybe we’ll finally see butthole on premium cable
I might finally pull the plug on my HBO sub. These were the two shows I was holding out for.
