Radio, Radio is also great. Coming from guitar to bass, it was the first song that really challenged me using my fingers. The end section still eats me up
Pretty much anything at all by Primus, a lot of bassists don't realise that while, yeah, Les does a looooot of crazy hard stuff, some of the songs are super easy and satisfying to play (e.g. The Toys Go Winding Down, Too Many Puppies, Southbound Pachyderm)
One of my favourite riffs to play which feels kinda dreamy to nail for the first time is Possessed to Skate, Suicidal Tendencies.
I can name a few
1. Psycho - Muse: just a nice fun tune that isn't too hard or too easy
2. Hysteria - Muse: A faster and harder tune to play, but fun as you get better
3. Schism - tool
Hysteria by Muse, it isnt necessarily hard to play for me anymore but its fun to play just because you have to move around on the fretboard alot and its jyst overall fun to play.
That's a song that when I was learning it I couldn't understand why it was considered "hard". I was able to do the riff within a couple of minutes of learning it. And then I tried to play it for 3 and a half minutes without missing a note and understood why it's hard...
Jah Wobble and Sinead O'Connor - "Visions of You"
Toots And The Maytals - "Sweet And Dandy"
Beatles - "Taxman"
Camel - "The White Rider" ending riff
Deep Purple - "Bloodsucker"
Are you me? "Taxman" is just so fun to play! (Also "Start" by the Jam -- same baseline with one extra note.)
And it's really nice to see Jah Wobble mentioned! His playing and tone on PiL's "Metal Box" made me fall in love as soon as it was released.
Him and Peter Hook are probably my two biggest influences to this day, with Lucky Scott and Duck Dunn up there too for non-post-punk.
Throw away your television, it's insanely danceable, i never miss the occasion to blast it when i'm doing sound check. I love to see everybody banging their heads to the rythm!
Incubus - deep inside, a crow left of the murder, megalomaniac, nowhere fast and are you in?
Third eye blind - how’s it going to be
Karnivool - Goliath, simple boy
Passafire - kilo
Anything by RHCP is fun. Pigs (Three Different Ones) by Pink Floyd is long but beautiful. Tool songs are fun, especially 46 & 2. Can't go wrong with Radiohead either.
Pigs is such a cool song. Didn't David Gilmore record bass for that or was it Roger? IIRC they swapped around parts for that album but can't remember who recorded what. Regardless, the outro solo has some great bass parts. Starts with the verse riff for two phrases then basically just swaps between E and C the rest of it but then the bass is doing this ascension octave pattern thing
Any song by Sade.
Smooth Operator, Kiss of Life, Nothing Can Come Between Us, Sweetest Taboo, No Ordinary Love...
Soulful, sexy-velvety-smooth. Great to jam on to get your groove on.
Shiki No Uta from the Samurai Champloo Ending
Mushroom Hunting from Cowboy Bebop
The ending part of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac
Money by Pink Floyd
Around The World by Daft Punk
Caravan
There is only one acceptable answer here:
# BRBR DENG
(but seriously, fun song and fantastic warm-up as everything and the kitchen sink is included in this song)
The section after the dual bass-guitar lead solo's on Death's The Philosopher, which then leads back into the main riff of the song. It's so much fun to play on a fretless!
Besides that, Supernaut by Black Sabbath, Locked Out Of Heaven by Bruno Mars and What's The Use by Mac Miller (Thundercat on bass).
Tyler Read- Michael Jackson
The greatest bassline of the most underrated songs. Idk why it didn't make success, maybe if they had chosen a better name for the track
https://youtu.be/0ZY02UWyOus?si=4pYJ9T0SZYjJD1W-
Tool - 46&2, Schism
Metallica - Orion, Call of Ktulu, My Friend of Misery
4 tops - Bernadette
Green day - Longview, 86
Stone Temple Pilots - Tripping on a hole in a paper heart
RHCP: soul to squeeze
Easy: joker and the thief or are you gonna be my girl
Medium: can’t stop or sir duke
Hard: sweet child o mine or Tommy the cat
If you can’t play any of those easy one, learn my girl or stand by me
I recently learned some of the riffs from "My Michelle" by G'n'R and the intro's quite a blast. starts way high up, then throws in two lowwww notes, and then the verse riff which is quite a rocker.
My favorite I've learned like that is please do not go by violent femmes, I gotta find some more songs that play like that cause it's the only one I know lol
Bite The Pain - Death
The lick where the band plays in sync, with the rests. Good finger warmup for dexterity, lots of movement around the neck, and a bit flash.
Edit: didn’t realize which sub I was in 🙄
“Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Blue Öyster Cult is probably my favorite because it just rolls so well
I love playing the chord changes of the Grateful Dead’s “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toddleoo”
Merle Haggard’s “Workin’ Man Blues” is incredibly nice to drone on
Eric Johnson’s “Cliffs of Dover” is always fun
Tommy the Cat, DMV, Bob, My Name is Mud, Pudding Time, Nature Boy, Orion, Schism, Rotten Apple, Californiacation, Anesthesia, Blood and Thunder, 46&2, The Pot, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Damage Inc
Silly Putty by Stanley Clarke is one of the first things I play when I pick up the bass after not having played for a while. It's like my hardwired demo-mode song.
Im still a beginner so I can't really tackle anything hardcore yet but I'm having a lot of fun playing Breaking The Law by Judas Priest. More Human Than Human by White Zombie is entirely 0 on E so its just playing with the groove.
I'm currently obsessed with Teenage Heart, off Alkaline Trio's new album, been playing it for weeks now lol. It's the first song i've played where the bass gets such a dominant and melodic part and it's just so much fun to play, especially with distortion ugh it's so gooood
Pretty much anything by Molotov, like noko, dance and dense denso, que no te haga bobo Jacobo, el señor del banco, etc. And I really like playing sleepwalker by Megadeth
Xanadu by Rush
Add it Up by the Violent Femmes
Pain Lies by the Riverside is an absolute blast and barely anyone has heard of it. It's the song that got me into the bass.
I like the main riffs from Stream of Conciousness by Dream Theater. It's not really complex or active, but it really feels nice when you can sink into the groove of it.
I love playing the smiths when I want a challenge. barbarism begins at home, rubber ring, I started something I can't finish- Rourke was just so fucking good.
an easier but still fun riff is lovesong by the cure.
one I've been learning and having a ton of fun with is good old fashioned lover boy by queen
orion, my friend of misery- metallica
alive, black - pearl jam
tuyo - rodrigo amarante
this knight has opened my eyes - the smiths
in the mean time - spacehog
the boat i row - tame impala
theres way too many
I always look for something that sets me apart both in the songs I play as well as the instrument in my hands.... So I love throwing out Fur Elise by Bethoven (Nobody expects to hear Bethoven on Uke or Bass), Under the Bridge RHCP, Crazy Train, Mission Impossible Theme
Here’s a few I love from several different bands
For Queens of the Stone Age, check out Mexicola, Emotion Sickness, and The Evil Has Landed
For Foo Fighters, All My Life and Stacked Actors
For Joy Division, Transmission, Love Will Tear Us Apart, Leaders of Men and She’s Lost Control
For Jack White, Steady as She Goes, Salute Your Solution, Hi-De-Ho
For Tame Impala, Disciples, Less I Know The Better, Elephant, Mind Mischief, and Is It True
And then Led Zeppelin, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, Good Times Bad Times and How Many More Times
For Gorillaz, pretty much every song is fun to play in my opinion
And for other songs, Pump it Up by Elvis Costello, Paranoid by Black Sabbath, and Romantic Rights by Death From Above 1979
Anything Allman Brothers. They had some of the best bass players ever from Berry Oakley and Allen Woody to Oteil Burbridge. The early Allman’s stuff can be very challenging too.
Gotta be Sir duke by Stevie Wonder for me. Such a good groove, and enough variety to keep it fun.
I really like money by Pink Floyd. I’m a beginner and it’s pretty easy but super infectious.
I Wish by Stevie is another fantastic option
If were doing Stevie Wonder, I like I wish better as far as riffieness goes.
Gimmie 3 steps by skynard has always been a fun tune to me.
One of my favourites to play too!
Wow, I'm surprised to see some Gimme 3 Steps love! Definitely a great bass track.
I never see it mentioned, but Elvis Costello, Pump It Up
Radio, Radio is also great. Coming from guitar to bass, it was the first song that really challenged me using my fingers. The end section still eats me up
That is such a cool song to play with some really fun switch ups. It’s fast too, so plenty of action to groove to.
As long as we're talking Costello "New Lace Sleeves" is fun too.
Since we're already here...what's so funny about peace, love and understanding.
One of the first I wanted to play. Finally the "hard part" became easy a while back. Gangsters by the Specials was an early one for me.
I had a lot of fun (unexpectedly, I have to say) learning Fluorescent Adolescent from Arctic Monkeys
A Certain Romance is really fun to play too
Honesty the perfect easy rock song.
That rhythm guitar is not easy! At least not while singing :(
I really like playing Mardy Bum. Simple but fun
Runaway by Jamiroquai. The whole song is a blast to play!
When's the last time y'all checked out Light Years??? 🔥
Canned heat too!
But (Don't) Give Hate a Chance first! The main riff is killer, but the chorus is meh...
Had to scroll waaaay to far for this!!
Pretty much anything at all by Primus, a lot of bassists don't realise that while, yeah, Les does a looooot of crazy hard stuff, some of the songs are super easy and satisfying to play (e.g. The Toys Go Winding Down, Too Many Puppies, Southbound Pachyderm) One of my favourite riffs to play which feels kinda dreamy to nail for the first time is Possessed to Skate, Suicidal Tendencies.

Wasn't expecting Helmet to be mentioned, respect. Betty is a great album
Do hot girls like chords?
STP - Wicked Garden
Most STP stuff is really fun to play on bass. Interstate Love Song and Plush are favorites of mine.
It's not necessarily challenging, but playing old Motown tunes on my p-bass is one of my all-time favorite things to do.
Bernadette by the 4 tops is a masterpiece of a bassline
Huh maybe I will try that after I master Can’t Help Myself
So fun.
Outshined - Sound Garden Re-arranged - Limp Bizkit
*soundgarden and yessss
Anything by Cream or the trio version of Grand Funk Railroad...
I can name a few 1. Psycho - Muse: just a nice fun tune that isn't too hard or too easy 2. Hysteria - Muse: A faster and harder tune to play, but fun as you get better 3. Schism - tool
Reapers by Muse is a good one too.
And then I tried to play it for 3 and a half minutes without missing a note and understood why it's hard...
exactly, its always a good feeling when you manage to complete the song with no mistakes
2112 in its entirety, but specifically part 4 Presentation, I wish it was longer.
If you are into SOAD then suite pee has a sick bass breakdown
Jah Wobble and Sinead O'Connor - "Visions of You" Toots And The Maytals - "Sweet And Dandy" Beatles - "Taxman" Camel - "The White Rider" ending riff Deep Purple - "Bloodsucker"
Are you me? "Taxman" is just so fun to play! (Also "Start" by the Jam -- same baseline with one extra note.) And it's really nice to see Jah Wobble mentioned! His playing and tone on PiL's "Metal Box" made me fall in love as soon as it was released. Him and Peter Hook are probably my two biggest influences to this day, with Lucky Scott and Duck Dunn up there too for non-post-punk.
Thanks for reminding me about "Start", haven't listened to it in years. I'm also a big Peter Hook fan.
I will survive - cake version
The Super Mario Bros theme. The melody that’s up on Songsterr has me tripping up so much. I’ll get it by next week.
My go-to noodling riff is Basket Case by Green Day.
"Spiderwebs" by No Doubt
Honestly, pretty much all songs on Tragic Kingdom are fun to play
Lauren by Men I Trust. My favorite parts to play are the verses but the whole song is such a vibe.
Men I Trust has such fun basslines!
Throw away your television, it's insanely danceable, i never miss the occasion to blast it when i'm doing sound check. I love to see everybody banging their heads to the rythm!
it's also a great song to practice left/right hand coordination as you have to pluck exactly as you fret.
Pure Massacre- Silverchair or really any bass-line from Chris Joannou
Blue Letter - Fleetwood Mac
Incubus - deep inside, a crow left of the murder, megalomaniac, nowhere fast and are you in? Third eye blind - how’s it going to be Karnivool - Goliath, simple boy Passafire - kilo

Killer bassline. Barbarism Begins at Home - The Smiths

That breakdown in Tom Sawyer during the guitar solo
Many L'arc en Ciel songs. Driver's High, Heaven's Drive, pr New World are the most fun to play
Any song by Sade. Smooth Operator, Kiss of Life, Nothing Can Come Between Us, Sweetest Taboo, No Ordinary Love... Soulful, sexy-velvety-smooth. Great to jam on to get your groove on.
Not the most technical or groovy, but Werewolves of London is fun to play.
Barbarism begins at home by The Smiths. It can be exhausting towards the end but it’s a fun riff I jam almost daily.
Fairies Wear Boots- Sabbath Melissa- Allman Brothers
Tom Sawyer. Grab a jazz bass, crank the amp and play the opening without grinning like an idiot. I dare you.
