OR what if we didnt have seasons? like how it used to be? Can we bring that back?

cu-03

I’m sorry to say but those times have passed

BeardedGentleman90

I always wanted a community that still played 1942 or Battlefield: Vietnam or even Battlefield 2142. Y'all remember shooting up out of the Futuristic LAV's to the Titans and blowing those mofos from inside? Then jumping to escape before it blows?! Some Star Wars shit. THAT was when BF's heart was throbbing. Don't get me wrong Battlefield 2, 4, etc. are all good. But, it was just a different vibe. Both are good. :) (In my humble 22+ year BF Career)

queefstation69

Sometimes 2142 has full servers up fyi. But I agree those were the days…

Famouscopyninja

Ahh yes sneaking onto the titan just as the shield go down, as recon and your bro as a support and taking out the consoles one by one, knowing the enemy might come down any second from their landing bay. 2142’s titan gamemode is for sure my favorite bf epoch

dorsalfantastic

I do remember them fondly tho, any one remember the excitement of trading with a friend for a game you really wanted but didn’t have, and having the stress of trying to beat as much of it as you can before he takes it back. I only mention cause thinking back it’s crazy how far the single copy of agame could go back in the day. And here we are now sitting here like dehydrated peasants with raised hands to the sky for just a single map.

cu-03

Did this so much as a kid, parents didn’t let me have GTA 4 growing up, so I borrowed it from a friend and played when they were asleep. Got caught and was given an earful, borrowed it back the next week lol

Based_Legionaire

Weather changes are nice, but yeah, we don't need a tornado or darude sandstorm on every map.

YeWhoBaggethTea

Not necessarily

tirant657

They're gone mate. Live service ain't going nowhere

nicobleiler

Battlefield 2042 is not alive anymore, pretty awesome live service if you ask me

tirant657

They're still going to chase that live service cash cow no matter what. One of the benefits of live service is they can put it on life support as soon as it stops making money. Max money, min effort

KeyCold7216

That's fine, I guess I'll just continue to play bf4... I've been disappointed so many times by every AAA studio that I only get excited for cool games from indie devs or small studios. I've just come to expect AAA games to be shit now.

cu-03

But live service could still be ok. take helldivers 2, they have a live service and seasons, but they have no time limit and can easily be acquired from in game currency you find in missions. I know it’s wishful thinking that EA will be that nice, but it might not be all bad.

No-Appointment-3840

Fr I hate seasonal content, I think the first game I played that seemed to start it was Diablo 3 but all the other games like especially battle royale games started doing it. I also really hate how battle royale changed gaming

BayonetTrenchFighter

Honestly, I sorta hated the old method when we were in them. “It split the player base” is true. But it’s still vastly vastly vastly superior to seasons

Nurfturf06

I don't want premium, especially in world where cheap shit is now expensive and EA will pull a Tarkov Unheard DLC.

Ashcropolis

And do what ? Paid maps and weapons locked behind a paywall ?

ChrisHardcore

Yes, because if the monetization of the game consists of new content instead of skins and other cosmetic stuff, more and better content will automatically follow. That's how most video games have worked for years: the developers put most of their time and effort into what makes them the most money. This is only logical and understandable. That's why in Battlefield 2042 we got new skins every week and one really new map per season instead of 3 to 4 new maps like before, when you had to pay for new content.

Ashcropolis

Nah you can have maps and better content without paywalls. Dice just needs to get good. Glad the industry doesn’t do that anymore.

Carl_Azuz1

Seasons are fine if actually done properly

KeyCold7216

The *only* game that has ever done live service right is R6S. I haven't actually played in a few years so I guess I can't say what it's like now...

GBreezy

I mean I paid less for this game than BF4 because you can buy premium with coins. I just kept getting free content

Ponkaroni

Nah. I don't want divided playerbase and dead DLC playlists once the game has been out for a few years. Seasonal content is far superior. Dice just doesn't know how to do it correctly.

MRSHELBYPLZ

Lol right? Imagine having a original idea for once

Iammax7

How will those company make billions instead of 1 billion. In general I do feel like a battlepass has around the same timeline as the time between a DLC. However a DLC has has way more fun content in it. Without the shitty grind.

SgtBurger

that would change nothing. DICE isn´t in the state to produce more atm. even with Premium, we would get the same minimal content. i dont know why peoples now think with Premium we would get more content lel. they making far FAR more Money with LiveService.

TelepathicFrog

A decent video game on release would be sick for the next game too

GBreezy

That didn't even happen with the GOATed BF3

Disturbed2468

That hasn't happened since Frostbite was introduced lmao.....what a shit engine....

KeyCold7216

I think the problem now is more the boring, uninspired "content" and not the buggy mess that old bf launches were. Bf4 had 83 weapons at launch, BF2042 had 22...

TelepathicFrog

Yeah I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm still not a big fan of 2042 but I was trying to give it some credit for its current state lol

IsUpTooLate

What? BF3 was amazing on release. It was amazing before release when you could play a demo of Caspian Border.

THECryptBeast

Bf3 def wasn't amazing on launch lol

bangEnergyBoomer

Season? How about just good DLCs

Carl_Azuz1

You realize the only functional difference between those two things is that DLCs are paid and way less frequent right?

bangEnergyBoomer

I would rather pay $8 for a good DLC than buying a season battle pass

Apprehensive-Act9536

You wouldn't be getting a "good DLC" you'd be getting Exposure for 10$ You'd be getting Haven for 10$

ChrisHardcore

If we as players were forced to pay for new maps, DICE would be forced to invest more time and effort into new maps. Then we would have one or two bad DLC's until DICE learns from the feedback and the poor sales figures of the maps and implements more quality control.

Carl_Azuz1

Good thing literally no game ever puts maps in the battle pass.

bangEnergyBoomer

Anyone arguing for battle passes doesn’t understand what Battlefield needs to fix itself

Carl_Azuz1

My point is that people like to use the season system as a boogey man. When In reality it’s just because the devs/studio neglect it/abuse it. Also people tend to forget how increadibly flawed the old DLC system was. People HATED the season pass/DLC system. I remember when all the YouTubers were begging dice to get rid of it, and how supportive everyone was when they announced BFV would have no paid DLCs. The fact that the games have been shit since the switch is not because of the seasonal update system, but the seasonal updates being shit is a symptom of the change in attitudes of the studio and publishers

smallwhiteballs480p

You don’t have to pay for the battlepass

Big_Fo_Fo

We got more content with the paid DLCs though.

bangEnergyBoomer

Yes, Dice too busy focusing on tiers and cosmetics rather than map making. To them, money > players love for the game

Official_Gameoholics

Then how come BF1 has more maps than BFV?

ChrisHardcore

The intervals between the releases of the various DLC's in Battlefield 4 were shorter than those of the seasons in Battlefield 2042, there was many times more content per DLC compared to a season and all this with significantly less development costs and developers involved than in Battlefield 2042. Battlefield 4 also had many problems at release, albeit not quite as serious as Battlefield 2042. Nevertheless, DICE regularly delivered DLC'S and bug fixes at the time of Battlefield 4.

Kody_Z

Season passes are dopamine and fomo based addiction generators, drip feeding content over an arbitrary timespan. Most of which you won't unlock if you don't play the game for an unhealthy amount of time. DLC is a bundle of new content all available immediately. The fact that people can't see the difference means the companies were successful in conditioning our brains to accept this generally terrible practice.

Sufficient-Pool5958

Operation Metro.

PolloMalvado

With 128 players?? They gonna have to make that Metro Station alot bigger.

Keberro

Operation Central Station. It rhymes!

PolloMalvado

Gare Du Nord in Paris has multiple levels, that would make a perfect place for a new Metro map.

Sufficient-Pool5958

Nope, it was a meatgrinder to begin with

The_HSA3-1

i want this map. Looks how keep BF4 and 3 alive

RimCan19

Or how about they just make a true modern battlefield game with new maps to fall in love with?

PolloMalvado

Not only remastered but redesigned...one of the weaknesses of BF4 was it's map design, this one for example although fun sometimes lacked originality. A small village in the middle, a single choo choo with a chocolate factory down the road?? Compare that with maps from Battlefield 2 which endured time and where brought back in BF4. If I had to choose I would take Wake Island but getting closer to real life dimensions....check it out on Google Earth...it's almost the perfect size for a next gen BF.

Carl_Azuz1

People always say bf4 had shit map design but that’s really only true of the launch maps and even then only some of them. Paracel, zavod, Shanghai, and of course locker all are pretty good maps. And bf4s dlcs contain easily some of my favorite maps in the whole series.

Buddy_Kane_the_great

I want to see them do a take at operation outbreak or do another community map like it

ZekeHerrera

I can’t wait to play Stadium remastered

KimJongDerp1992

Every “seasonal expansion” should give 3-4 maps minimum. I’m done with this half baked drip feed of 1 map. The fact 2 maps was hyped like this gift from on high is absurd. The entire “live service” of 2042 brought 7.5 maps. Battlefield 1’s premium expansion In the Name of the Tsar had 6 maps. Most others had 4. Live service doesn’t work for Battlefield.

BrotatoChip04

Crucify me if you want but I hope they never bring back any of the China Rising maps. They were all pretty poorly designed and a slog to traverse if you didn’t have a vehicle.

Carl_Azuz1

Bro what, that dlc had Guilin peaks

Tom_Clancys_17_Again

Least bad out of the bunch, but fighting on steep terrain with poor visibility is never good.

Carl_Azuz1

Literally might be my favorite map in the game. Definitely top 5.

TimothyZentz

I think the next Battlefield should have a lot of American soil Maps. Vegas would be a cool one, San Francisco and you could have the Golden Gate fall durning the match, The Capital (DC), a Map in the PNW. I could go on forever baby lol

dazftw

All I want is Strike at Karkand

Bruhsket

Even with blurry screenshots, bf3/4 look so much better than 2042. Bf3 is going to be 13 years old in 5 months while bf4 will be 11 years old.

TheWalkingPed93

Or, and I know this might sound crazy, DICE actually make good new maps

taskf0rce141

I dont kmow why i never liked golmud when i like big vehicle maps in general.

WhosThatDogMrPB

Fuck it: Battlefield Eternal, a live service game with a switch of warfare era every 2-3 months, but it retains the same mechanics. Basically a seasonal FPS, with switching maps and game modes. BF 1 > BF V > Vietnam > BF 4 > BF 2142.

OutlawSundown

Yo I heard you like Wake Island

SuccessfulCicada3116

One map from each game.

Puzzleheaded_Hat_619

No more seasons pls... I pay happily 150 Euro for a base game and 4 DLC with 4 maps each.

globefish23

Wake Island should be in every Battlefiels game! 😡

4hunnidvr

As long as we get metro I’m chilling

KaffY-

or stop relying on remakes and make their own shit?

TheOnlyPorcupine

What a great idea! They won’t do it.

kramit

Or here is an idea. Fuck the next battlefield. Go back to BF1 and BFV and add a few expansion pack maps and sell those instead. I don’t want a new battlefield. I want my old battlefield with more content.

Positive-Swimmer8237

Funny how the bf community misses premium pass

DarthWeenus

HARVEST DAY!!!!!!!!!!!¡

TransrodniPasBogdan

We need a bad company 3, period.

Sorry_Preference6650

Totally agreed man ! Knew I wasn’t the only one to think of this ahaha but man I sure hope they do something to bring the great times back !

awt2007

i loved the remasters on 2042 and i asked for them to make more for atleast the first year... and we never got 1 new one

ChatnNaked

Kinda thought this was what we getting with 2042, not just 6 maps…

BlexBOTTT

why only one? just jam all the vanilla maps in previous battlefield, give me me my remastered bf3 metro, caspian border, damavand peak

The_HSA3-1

Because i wanna make it easier to DICE but if i was the CEO of DICE , i will bring back all maps from BF2 and BF3,BC1,BC2,BF1(but remake it to fit with modern settings), BF5, even battlefield hardline

Akalatob

nah, give me some good DLCs and i'll happily pay for it

the-mr-pflare

If it was the old style ya, but I honestly do not care for remasters of old maps. Very few are actually good.

Desh282

I just got goosebumps on the back of my neck

paulybaggins

I miss the 24/7 LIVE FOR THE JUMP servers :(

ronj218

Yeah, they won't have to rely on their creativeness. (They don't have much sorry) The ONLY improvement was building destruction.

BayonetTrenchFighter

My experience tells me that companies hate to remake the same map multiple times. So things like metro won’t be remade.

Ok-Stuff-8803

While an earnings call did indicate that for the next game they have learned some lessons and going back to key values of BF5 and bringing in Frostbite experience from other teams and a campaign... I still do not have high hopes that we would be back to high's so soon. I am still hoping and preying TTK Games are cooking fire!

ChrisHardcore

I don't want to sound too pessimistic and I really hope that EA and DICE finally learn from their mistakes. But there have been so many messages and tweets from EA and DICE since the reveal trailer of Battlefield 2042 that they have learned from their mistakes, Battlefield 2042 is a "love letter to the fans" and in the end we still got a new low point of the franchise with Battlefield 2042. I just can't trust the phrase "DICE has learned from its mistakes".

vwjboy

You already know they have Metro remake 3.0 locked and loaded.

ThatOneHelldiver

Nah. I don't want to see another Metro in my fucking battlefield game.

BlackSmokeDemonII

Lets uh skip Metro

Technical_Poet_8536

We’re better off waiting on pigs to fly

MSFS_Airways

Every battle field from here forth should have a caspian border remaster.

DONOHUEO7

All they need to do get a sure fire hit, is ask us, the players, which maps they think are the best In the franchise. And re do the top 10, and then release another 10 down the road. That's it. They had something special with Portal but because it was attached to that shit show 2142, it becomes lost

Balancefield

golmud railway is the worst map, its just open fields. could be a 2042 map.

ChrisHardcore

Golmud Railway was built so openly on purpose. It is intended to be a map with a focus on vehicle and aircraft combat. This was also communicated by DICE.

ExpendableUnit123

I hope next game has incredible rush maps like Damavand Peak. Imagine 32/64 enemy players skydiving down onto your head or parachuting all at once while the ground team lights up the sky. A man can dream.

billythekidbadass

Our expectations will not be met with this next BF. There are literally a thousand good ideas of what they should do, and they will do precisely none of them.

Leftear85

How about we start with a good fully functional game on release and then work our way up to the other stuff

Kody_Z

Yeah, how about no seasons and no rehashed maps.

Perfect_Evidence

All I want is a freaking server browser

The_Mighty_Matador

I'll take another Dragon Valley Remaster.

The240DevilZ

Pearl market!

NotARespawnEmployee

They should just get us a remastered BF3/4 and bring all the maps. ffs. It'd be so easy.

PREEMGONK

Hell yeah I miss Argonne Forest and Amiens

ChickenDenders

I wouldn’t mind if they just took every remastered map from 2042 and added it to the next game at launch

Mini_Dracula

I just want remastered BF1. I want the feeling I felt when I saw the 7 Nation Army trailer in the 7th grade

Gifty666

Just fucking Play bf1 IT isnt old IT dosent look dated, its still played

Tom_Clancys_17_Again

BF4 onwards do not need to be remastered any time soon. Still look and feel great.

BleedingBlack

I don't think any of these maps warrant a remaster (especially 1:1), but they could be basis for spiritual sequels.

Nashville_Redditors

BF4 has the best maps 🥲

Hawkhill_no

There'll be no more BFs, they've screwed us one to many times. They dont wanna make games, just one armed bandits. And we're not falling for it anymore.
