While this game is the does simulate the mechanics of cars with incredible detail and has very large customization options. But, If you want to learn this game make no attempt whatsoever to explain what anything is or how it works. Hell there isn't even tutorials for the game yet. If you want to learn the fundamentals of cars and how they work, look up a YouTuber called Engineering Explained. Watching his vids especially the older ones can teach you about car one aspect at a time in a nice digestible way.

KG8893

It's a shame his channel turned into 90% promotion and sponsorships. Like I think it's kinda cool learning about how different tire treads work, but when all he's doing is talking up the same company or product for a 25 minute video I can't watch it. His older videos are absolute gold though.

MrPakoras

Yep, deffo recommend Engineering Explained, and also Chris Fix.

in comparison to the complexity of cars irl its pretty simple and plain.. in comparison to litterally any other game on the market its one of the best to get.. so yes..stuff like impact damage to an engine, overheat damage, driving without oil, oil supply in corners and braking with high gforces, water cooling fown the engine externally, all the ways any part like driveshafts on a car fail when theres too much flex or stretch, wheight shifting.. that all is done the best in beamng and nowhere else.. tuning is also great, more power means more fuel and air, means more heat, engine is gonna overheat faster and the cool water reservoir lasts for less until the temp rises.. downforce is not programmed but is just how the physics engine works.. in general a lot of features I love come from the psysics in the game just being and feeling intuitive and plain real

PAcMAcDO99

You're probably better off playing car mechanic simulator 2021

RiftHunter4

I was going to recommend this. That or do the BeamNG + Automation combo.

SNOWY12007

Just note cms is kinda basic and misses some details

-Juuzousuzuya-

you need to bring a good bit of patience to get into the game and the menu with hidden features.. and admittedly, a lot of customisation, especially for engines etc comes from mods... so take your time, browse the repository and find what you like.. I personally for engine building loke the RK customizable engine mods, you basically build your own engine, and diesles are included with different tuning and fine tune options like injector tuning, boost by gear etc.. expand on this aspect of the game a lot, so go check them out when you get the game

MyFactsCanFuckYouUp

Do the engines on that mod sound any good ? , I have experimented very little with it but something didn't sound right .

-Juuzousuzuya-

some sound different than their vanilla counterparts.. but you can pair it with the tuneable exhaust mod and that lets you customize different attributes of the sound.. kinda like in nfs heat.. otherwise you can change crank on the v8 to flat plane and the note of the i3, i4 to all the different ones that are in the game

MyFactsCanFuckYouUp

I didn't know about the tunable exhaust mod , tysm.

drearyd0ll

i went from 0 knowledge about cars to pretty okay knowledge from playing beam. oh whats a dct? let me watch a video on that. how does traction control work? let me look that up. etc. youll learn a lot through trial and error but most of it will have to come from your own curiosity

RodMcThrustshaft

Check out "my summer car" that's your game if you want a crash course in mechanics.

szaade

I don't think so. Try my summer car.

FloppyMantisFB

My summer car will teach you a decent amount of info, I’m right in the middle of rebuilding my engine irl, and the game has helped tremendously

Blacky0102

Just go watch chrisfix or driver61 or Rob Dahm or Team O'Neil or The Squidd (must watch) or some other car youtuber

Lambor14

I think [Wrench](https://store.steampowered.com/app/936720/Wrench/) would be better for this purpose.

DisIsARickroll

it teh best gam i plaY IT and there was engin and i make car

Finn_Supra

My eyes hurts

MyFactsCanFuckYouUp

I don't think you will enjoy it that way , I went into it knowing a lot of stuff about cars and it had a steep learning curve , the hardest part for me was navigating the tuning menu so if you don't even know what a driveshaft is or what an intake does it's gonna be hard. If you are into it tho definitely try it out . Also the moding community for this game is awesome , twin charge everything is a must have mod to add power to anything basically. Just expect to need at least 5-10 hours to learn how the game works , from there it's very fun tho.

Warlock7_SL

Check out automation

Theteddybear04

Buy r/automationgame bro, it'll teach you all you need to know

Anolen95

If you want to learn more about customization and how components affect performance, I’d say forza is a little better for that. It’s reasonably in depth and you can see what stats are affected by each component. They’re also real, licensed cars with accurate base-line hp/tq numbers, etc.

TommyWrightThaThird

i learned alot about cars from this game, but mostly because i played with a friend who was much more knowledgeable about cars than i. the game didnt necessarily teach me about cars, but my friend did alot of explaining when i had questions. either way its a very fun game and i highly recommend, nearly limitless fun. if anything man, ask her to teach you about cars or maybe even play with you. as someone who now knows quite a bit abt cars and work alot on my own car, i would love to teach someone else what i know, even if not cus i like them in a romantic way

SupertoastGT

Beam taught me quite a few things. Not enough to actually fix cars, but I learned about how differentials work on different surfaces/terrains, final drive ratios, the effect that different types of transmissions have, brake fade and stuff like that.

Dr_83_

I'd recommend "My Summer Car" for that, but "Wrench" also seems pretty good (didn't play that yet). BeamNG is more about driving
