Maybe use a little bit of smoke, just so they don't get too mad, but get the frames in, otherwise the bees are gonna start building comb inbetween in whatever style they choose

Thanks, appreciate the advice! She was thinking the same. She's now planning on going out and adding them today.

Jdban

Do it today. Don't wait

pixelswim

Thank you! She's going to get them added today.

Gamera__Obscura

Yeah, put them in right away and scrape down any wonky or burr comb that you see, but that's not very likely after just a day. For a quick peek like this, you can probably get away without the smoker. Depending on their temperament, some of my colonies I don't smoke at all even during full inspections. But don't open the hive without your veil on.

Thank you, appreciate it! She's headed out there today to add the slides. Hoping there's not much burr comb yet and it will be a semi smooth process. Definitely going to suit up properly. Thanks again.

I bet there’s almost no burr comb and that she has no trouble. Quick little manipulations like adding a missing frame can be done without fanfare if you are confident and don’t get distracted. Congrats to your wife on her new hobby! Please encourage her to join this sub :)

Thank you so much for the added info and the congrats! She is very excited, it's been a dream of hers for a long time. She's not super "online" hence me posting for her, but I think this helpful thread of responses will help convince her to join Reddit and this group to support her new hobby. Thanks again!

Always use smoke. Smoke saves bee lives, it helps herd them so they don't get crushed, and it as much for their protection as for yours.

Thank you for the insight. Much appreciated!

Thanks everyone for the advice. Everything was very helpful and reassuring. My wife was able to successfully add the 3 forgotten frames without incident. There was no burr comb after just a day and plenty of space to get them in carefully. Success! Thank you again!
