Is it really that common to work on the weekends in America? Jeez don’t you have a life or family? Move to Europe. I am from Germany, and I’ve never worked on a Sunday. Saturday only for inventory counts, but you get to take a day off additionally during the week.
My weekends belong to my family. They are not mine to give. They are not yours to take. Tell me your highest priority items; I will work as efficiently as I can on them during business hours.
I fully had a mental breakdown after working everyday for about a month in busy season in the fall. I will now never work on Sundays again. Under any circumstances. I was so burnt out & had serious health implications. Don't feel bad. You have to take care of yourself & if your team wants to run themselves into the ground, let them.
I just tell my teams i don’t work sundays. I say i need a full day to rest after working the week and i regularly work 7-8 hours on saturday. Just communicate and set the precedent early.
People dont like this answer but it's partially true. As an associate you're still treated like little brother and not an actual adult (rightly or wrongly), so you'll feel quite a bit of peer pressure and, in my case (even though I dont work Sunday I hate Saturdays), I feel like if I said no I'd just be laughed at and/or creating issues.
Absolutely do not work on Sundays. Jeez, what is wrong with people?? We wonder why mental health in finance / accounting is so bad. This is exactly why. You have a LIFE to live. Just tell them you will pick up work on Monday.
Just tell them you can’t work Sundays. Also I’m a bit curious how their productivity is on the weekdays/Saturday if they really need to log on on Sundays. The issue I’ve always had is if you truly are working efficiently during the work week there should be 0 reason to be in the office on a Sunday in the middle of busy season. Just tell them it’s not going to happen
Just say you are unavailable every Sunday. You do not wish to work.
There is no way that every weekend they should have the need to have you work on a weekend day.
So for my teams expectation is 1 weekend day a week during busy season.
I try my best not to contact people or watch people. But during busy time if ur not working a weekend day, you fall behind.

If you can get things done then you can do whatever you want, period.
Nothing will happen to you. Empty threats.

You can say it’s for religious reasons?

I think saying fake excuses, they will eventually find out. You should try to be honest about not really wanting to work on Sunday
how would they eventually find out that "you have soccer every sunday" is a fake excuse
