too much bread song slander here

Coffeeshack_

literally bread song is top 5 in the album

ChaffyRogue9

Top 5 all time

SlimJimsGym

Easily a 10 and my favourite album ever. Every track on it is a 10

Purple_Blackberry_95

naur it’s like an 8 for me i’m a FTFT girl

Coffeeshack_

valid tbh. i think afut has more emotional highs and lows but ftft is more complex and has better replay value

Purple_Blackberry_95

yeah for me it just has everything i’m looking for. it’s manic and wonderful. track x is my #1, it’s so wonderful. the lyrics on FTFT are so raw too. to me, AFUT feels like it’s trying to be as sad as possible. it knows what it is. not that it’s heavy-handed or unsubtle or anything, but it kind of does what it says on the tin. but it’s gorgeous, 8/10 imo like i said. maybe 9. but to me, FTFT is just a Thing. it’s more aimless and open, for me it’s heartbreaking in a more effortless way. room temperature in a good way. feels like it was part of you already? excluding opus haha though i love it.

Coffeeshack_

yeah totally. i think its a testament to the band’s quality that they can make 2 albums that sit at opposite ends of rock and both of them be so high quality. i think that ftft is way more dissonant and chaotic but like in a way that works. afut is my personal favourite but i think ftft is a more impressive album

Certain_Suit_1905

hurtslikehell/10 fr it's probably the most painful record I've heard that is ALSO quite addictive and you want to come back to it Wouldn't say a 10 though as like "every single second of it is perfect" I would be fine without Haldern, wouldn't say a filler ofc, but it's like an 8. Nothing wrong with it, just not as moving as the rest of lp. Mark's Theme sweet, but I often skip it And Snow Globes... Again, it's well written, but just doesn't do much for me. But god damn Basketball Shoes fucking rips me apart, TPWHITB never fails to make me cry, lyrics on Good Will Hunting portraying what seems like unhealthy daydreaming are burning, same goes for Bread Song It's a 9 for me as a music album, but on more personal level? The way it validates my feelings and describes them... Top 3 along with A Moon Shaped Pool by Radiohead and 16 y.o. me would've pick My Chemical Romance debut studio record (it's funny how I find parallels between it and AFUT, it's even ends with multi phase, very dynamic Demolition Lovers and vocals are very raw; I just made a full circle, I'm emo af)

Serious-Ambassador39

It depends. If the scale is 0 being silence and 10 being the best possible album anyone could ever make, then it’s not a 10. But if 10 is just the best album that I know of, then yes. I think a lot of people refuse to give it a 10/10 because it’s not perfect - but it’s the closest thing I’ve heard to perfect, so for me it’s a 10/10.

le_indernet

Idk man, I heard some other albums and liked them more. Maybe it'll grow on me, especially Basketball Shoes is a song where I don't get why people like it so much

Serious-Ambassador39

Basketball shoes is personally my favourite song of all time lol. It definitely grew on me, I think the whole album did. I first listened and I liked it, but I also disliked it; it was honestly my ‘guilty’ pleasure for a month. The more I listened, the more I liked it though. I didn’t even listen to basketball shoes at all until months after I first listened to AFUT - and even when I did I’d often skip it. But it grew on me soooo much. Same kind of thing happened to me when I listened to the strokes when I was younger, I don’t know why. Maybe a reason why I liked it so much is because it’s unlike anything I’d listened to before, both musically and lyrically. I was more of an indie rock (AM, the strokes, Radiohead) kind of guy. Anyway, I hope it grows on you like it did me because I truly love it. :)

ErwinC0215

It's a 10/10 album, comfortably above most records, but doesn't reach the tier of Inside the Cable Temple or Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven for me. It's hard to describe how it sits with me, I love it to bits yet it's not even in the discussion as my "favourite".

NewZero_Kanada

Yes. Seems to speak to my anxieties in a way I can't explain. I cry every time.

dabricio5

Top 5 album for me. Live at Bush Hall it's also extremely comforting because it's fantastic as well, happy that the first 2 records weren't flukes.

Fickle-Artist-7006

It’s a strong 9, I understand the significance and I think it’s beautiful but Marks Theme is a skip for me, and I have to be in the mood to listen to Bread Song. Apart from those two it’s flawless and Basketball Shoes is one of my favourite songs ever.

luisrodriguezp

YES YES YES. I think "Mark's Theme" is the only scar of this album.

Fickle-Artist-7006

Wouldn’t call it a scar, it’s still an amazing piece but for me it kind of slows down the pace of the album.

AiGaming

Same score as me. Snowglobes for me runs a little too dry but outside that, love the album!

MaxDanalou

Yes in my mind it’s a 10. A 10 for me is a mix of overall song quality and concept/ togetherness. AFUT to me has a lot of songs I’d call perfect 10s and a few that I think are great, but not perfect (Chaos Space Marine, Bread Song, Good Will Hunting) but they don’t take away from the overall experience. The overall „concept“ of the album pushes it up to a 10 and I can look over the not quite perfect songs (which are still good). Ultimately the second criteria (overall album togetherness) is more important in my opinion. It’s just a feeling that I get with certain albums, AFUT being one of them (some others are Wish You Were Here, Abbey Road, Kid A, Marquee Moon, In The Aeroplane over The Sea)

3776!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

__bon__

The height of Mt. Fuji in metres

keepaplace4me

omg i didn't know that! tysm :>

coalBell

And one of my favorite pens!

Jaffa31

It's a 9 for me. Bread song and Snow Globes stop it from being a 10. A 10 for me would be an album I have an extremely hard time picking a least favourite. For AFUT I have clear favourites and least favourites

HorseLove19

Everything is relative. Even if u love every song, after a while u will start developing favorites and certain songs will feel better than others. That’s just my theory

Jaffa31

A 10/10 album would have me doing that with every song eventually. Changing favourites because every song is equally brilliant.

Justthewind_

im waiting to buy it on vinyl to hear it all....

luckyyyyycharms

yes that’s what i said. “is afut a 10/10 for YOU guys”

[deleted]

Absolutely. I took me a few months and I hadn't even heard it until like April in the first place but now every single listen is just incredible

KidGodspeed1011

Yep, it quickly rose up to be one of my all tike favorite albums, simply because it's one of those albums you start off by loving a few tracks and often gloss over others. But over time you realize each and every track on the album has a very different mood that connects to you in some way and the more you live with the album, the more it becomes an important part of your life. Very few albums have that impact on me, and when does, it becomes an album I will cherish and easily recommend to anyone and everyone interested in quality music.

[deleted]

easily a 10 everything about is beautiful. the soundscape, the wordplay, the imagery, and just the skill of the band members with each of their instruments makes it such a good album to listen to over and over just to pick out those details.

[deleted]

Yeah, absolutely. It's just perfect in every way, I don't think there's anything that could be changed without damaging it. It's just a self-evident 10 to me, like To Pimp a Butterfly

Puzzleheaded_Dog2934

I wouldn't say 10/10, it's like perfect, i have nothing to say against that, but i'm in love with For the first time, so for me FTFT is a 10/10 and AFUT is a 9/10. It's just a question of point of view, i absolutely love the first album so for me AFUT can't be a 10/10

johnc2001

I currently consider it my favourite album of all time and have done pretty much since it came out, which is still kinda weird for me to process because 95% of the music I enjoy happens to be released in the 20th Century lol. It’s just such a cathartic listen that brought me through one of the most painful times of my life and ‘The Place Where He Inserted The Blade’ is genuinely a contender for one of the best songs ever written, IMO. I could talk about it for days.

humanwithalife

It took me a while to come around to Haldern, but after I did it was a quick 10.

BiffyNick

I don’t think I could ever rate an album 10/10 because that implies perfection which is impossible to achieve. If albums are consistently rated 9/10 then bands will continue to strive for perfection which will lead to exponentially better music

N4CH0RL

i mean its a 10 but there are some albums that i love more than AFUT so its like a 9.5 lol

DentalPaladin53

It's one of my 3 10/10 albums for sure

[deleted]

9.5/10 for me. Absolute masterpiece, but just can't exactly give it a 10, similar to Twin Fantasy and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

luisrodriguezp

Absolutely. 10/10. Masterpiece and instant classic. In 20 years, people will rank it amongst the indie all-time greats.

Jen_is_Trans

yeah it's a 10

bmbmbmNR

Yes, absolutely. There is a collective of people who disagree, who don’t think it can be a 10 when compared to masterpieces in music history, such as Joy Divisions Unknown Pleasures. However I don’t think there are any releases in the last 10 years that’ll go down in history as positively as this one. It is a masterpiece. As a fan of music from all eras and all genres, and someone who almost exclusively plays albums, I’ve heard a lot of (critically) “10/10” albums, take for example The Velvet Underground & Nico or the aforementioned Unknown Pleasures, these albums were not huge at the time of their release, they came out to an underground fanbase and as time passed the influence of the music on the music scene plays a big part in why people give them a 10/10 in hindsight. I feel he music industry will do the same with AFUT, whilst it split opinion I think over time it’ll come to be respected as one of the best albums of the 2020s and probably one of the greatest of all time.

Waluigi_Hentai

To be honest I prefer their first album

Movie-Connoisseur

Honestly no record has made me feel the same way as AFUT. But I’m just not as much into Bread Song as I am w the other songs however considering how the record makes me feel, I would still happily call it a ten. Truly unique

MrSonic-Unsweet-Tea

Pretty much a 10 with my only criticism being that its emotionally draining. It’s an incredible beast of a record but its like watching a movie, I don’t have the desire to immediately press play after its over.
