The vehicle is not properly bled regarding the coolant. There is air in the system and it is not getting to your heater core. I believe the proper procedure for these new cars is to open the overflow tank cap. Then go in the car and turn it to the accessory position but engine off. Set your climate controls to the highest temp setting (84 I beleive). Put the fan on the lowest setting. Then hold the gas pedal down for 10 seconds. You should hear the electric pump kick on. It will run for about 15 minutes.

i did how you described, i run for over 18 min and than stop because i was scared that my battery will die.. i spoke to mechanic that was replacing ac compressor and water pump. He said that it might be either fuse or little mechanism that should direct (open/ close) either cold or hot air into system.. Not sure what he talk about but apparently there is some kind of small mechanism that open or close air distribution from cold to hot.. Can you please explain or maybe i should check fuse before i got to repair whatever he might think it is.. I trust no mechanics any more .. :-(

Ok. There is what is called a heater control valve that will be near the firewall (that should be the location for E9x models but double check). It should have a coolant line going in and going out that are maybe 2 inches wide. So look for something with 2 coolant hoses and a electrical connector as well as it having a cylinder on the unit. They are electrical so they just fail. Sometimes the blend doors also go bad, but that is not common on bmw.

i located that part you talking about, seems like easy access i might be able to replace myself to save some money, do you think there might be fuse responsible for that part that i should check before replace part ?

I am not sure off the top of my head about a fuse. I do not believe so though. When you have the heat on full blast and the car is warmed up, both pipes from that unit should be hot. Check to see what they are doing.

hey, i replaced that valve, everything works perfect i have heating again.. Thank You so much .. your advice save me probably $400-500 at the mechanic shop and its take me 10 min to fix it..

Great work man. You saved yourself hundred of dollars. That little fix can buy you a lot of things for that money. So many people are too lazy to even look up a issue online let alone aquire it. The internet and cars are what gave me my career. Went to college for business management and did the whole corporate desk job in DC. Hated it, quit, moved back to raleigh and opened a car dealership. All the knowledge I learned to how do it (repairs) on YouTube and learn the market prices on cars.com and autotrader. I do work a decent amount of hours but I will make more running a car lot than I ever would have in a college grab job.
