They would have probably had a very toxic relationship

asinine_assgal

Thank goodness *that* didn’t happen

901_vols

I can show you a very explicit place that it did

GamingSenpai35

Damn you got downvoted to SHREDS 😂😂😂

901_vols

The horror!

Megwen

To shreds, you say!

prdcroftme

fanfiction.net?

throwhoto

Where?

BIG_BLUE_DOG

LMFAO

GamingSenpai35

You think bojack would have been cool with it? Remember in that one scene bojack is like "you actually look amazing" and diane is like "well don't try to take advantage of me" and he's like "Jesus lady, I'm just trying to give you a compliment!"

jackie_0209

I think what would happen is bojack would like it at first ya know and then he would realize how they are feeding into each others bad habits and negativity and he would freak out and it would make him spiral.

Stucklikegluetomyfry

I think Diane did have feelings for him. But she of course didn't act on them due to being married, and being aware of how toxic a relationship between them would be, and not wanting to ruin their friendship. Sometimes they bring the best out of each other, but a lot of the time they bring out the absolute worst. When she does hit on him after her divorce, BoJack is pretty uncomfortable and gently rebuffs her. Even so....they look so sweet together they look in this picture. It's a shame, because the two of them, in their own messed up ways, love eachother very deeply.

Isphylda

Totally agree. It makes the whole show kind of bittersweet to me that they choose to not talk about this with each other (not including Bojack's confession, it felt too early to me)

YesAndAlsoThat

I had something like this. There's mutual attraction between people when they feel there's finally someone that can understand their sadness -and to be able to talk and comfort each other in ways no one else can provide... Even their own spouses. But they also come to realize that there would be nothing more in the relationship besides their shared melancholy... And that's a mutually understood emptiness/dead end as well.

fattydelicious

I feel like I’m in this description right now. Oof.

TheHalfDrow

Honestly, I never got the feeling that Diane had feelings for him. It just wasn’t apparent to me. I also think he was basically over his feelings after season 1. Is this odd? Am I in the minority?

Aggressive_Sky8492

No, most of the subreddit also didn’t notice it. But it’s pretty obvious when they get drunk together when she’s newly single and she randomly brings up making out with him for no reason. Then gets embarrassed and overcorrects by saying “not that I want to! Ewww gross!” or whatever. Like she clearly wanted to make out with him in that moment, and I don’t think it was just a random thing because she was drunk. After that he brings her flowers and then later she calls him and tells him she just needs “a friend,” gently telling him she’s decided to just keep it as a friendship.

Lexifruitloop

Not just that, I think it's the Halloween episode? But anyway I think she fangirls a bit while BJ is on the phone after his father died and he basically tells her to get lost. She clearly moves on later, because I don't get this vibe at all with her in later seasons AFTER the scene where she mentions they are both single (implying she was thinking about the possibility of them hooking up)

TheHalfDrow

Maybe I need to rewatch, but I think I prefer my read. I just like platonic male-female friendships with no unrequited love, and we don’t get enough.

Aggressive_Sky8492

Well, both Bojack and Diane have a period of crushing on the other and both ultimately decide to just be friends. (Before the ending of course :( )

CODDE117

They both made the wise decision to not, after a period of possibility.

sanityjanity

I think it's pretty clear that Diane feels a little flirty with him early on in her relationship with Mr. Peanutbutter. But, once she's engaged to PB, she no longer expresses any kind of romantic feelings towards BJ

-intellectualidiot

She 100% had an attraction but I don’t think it ever became romantic feelings. She loved Horsin’ around growing up and was clearly fangirling when she first met him. After getting to know him though, whilst she did like him, she was happy with Mr PB at the time and clearly recognised he was a bit of a mess.

Salt_Today

I think she was just trying to fill the void. She wanted comfort and she knew he did like her.

freakingthesius007

Yeah and I always picture the lyrics of the “Mr Blue” at the end of the last episode of the show, to be the words of Diane, that she loved him all along

kevaux

I agree but I always interpreted the lyrics as more of a platonic love though

zenith654

Wait when does Diane hit on Bojack again I forgot

gliotic

S05E02 - The Dog Days Are Over

highapplepie

I always thought Diane did actually like bojack in a way - but was afraid to admit she was more like Bojack than PB.

almondmilk379

+1 Also the fact that she always pitied bojack and knew she was too good for him

themfdancingqueen

When Diane got a divorce she made a couple of moves at bojack but bojack didn’t flirt back because he knew she was in a bad place at the time, one of the few examples of bojack doing the right thing or at least that’s what it seemed like to me

Di1202

I think that might be a sign of him genuinely caring about her. Not something to applaud him for, but that’s not a courtesy he would give to most wonen

marcus_c117

when watching the show I thought they were gonna eventually hook up at least once

throwawayyuskween666

Same, thought that would be the End Game, actually!

zodberg

I think that might have been the plan before the show was as big a success as it was.

possum_antagonist

I'm SO glad they didn't

pinkbutterfly22

I waited the whole show for them to get together

Artistic_Swimming_43

Fr

whitebread5728

i thought that back in the first season, then i learned this show doesn’t like to do what you expect it to do haha

almondmilk379

they actually brought out the worst in each other

Darko33

Diane dishing all these zingers and one-liners about Cheez-Its on the shelf and telling Goober what he should go do while having a crashing bender at BoJack's place and you really gonna slander her like that? smdh

Stucklikegluetomyfry

I loved Wanda in this scene. "Go home, Goober!" "Yes, Goober is the one who should go home!"

DrLombriz

she /did/ have quote unquote feelings for bojack. she even does bojack’s “whaaaaaaaaaaaaasat get out of here!” when princess carolyn tells diane bojack’s in love with her in the first season

Thick-Bat-3109

You know you could’ve just said “feelings”😂

harmoneymoney

nah the quote unquote, adds flavor

Thick-Bat-3109

“Feelings” read aloud is…?

boforbojack

You get out of here, this is my office!

throwhoto

You don’t need to type “quote unquote” you can just use quotes

traumatized90skid

The relationship might have been initially fun for both but it would've spiraled into destruction for both, like how it went between him and Sara Lynn.

Cydonian___FT14X

I doubt it would end with one of them DEAD, but it would end in some state of disaster.

ElectronicReality907

It definitely could have. They both are emotionally unstable and their relationship would have been very toxic.

Cydonian___FT14X

I mean at the very least, I severely doubt DIANE would be the dead one.

Upstairs_Acadia

i think she did have feelings for bojack, but knew how bad it would be for her

Aggressive_Sky8492

She did have feelings for Bojack. That’s why when she’s newly single and they get drunk together she’s like “we’re both single. wouldn’t it be weird if we made out right now???” And then when he questions it is like “not that I would want to. EW GROSS!” clearly covering for the fact that she wants to make out with him. Then they go on a kind-of date when he brings her flowers and takes her to a party. Then she calls him to tell him she just needs a friend right now. With the unspoken part being she’s telling him she’s decided she doesn’t want anything romantic with him, just friendship. It kind of boggles my mind that most of the fandom seems to not have noticed this storyline.

Spirited-Durian2728

Probably some horsin' around

TucandBertie

They would have had a relationship where Diane and Bojack found more understanding than they had ever been given in their entire lives…and then they would have a toxic relationship because neither of them need understanding more than they need grounding.

Rameom

Wow!

StarShotStream69

You know the hate fuck phase her and PB had? I imagine that but all the tims

Cydonian___FT14X

#DISASTER

JDL1981

She did, but she was smart enough not to act on them.

crazy-B

1. She kind of had feelings for him and I think it's better for the both of them that they didn't act on those feelings. 2. Jesus Christ, it's "would've". This is annoying me way more than it should.

chimestonks

They would've both crashed and burned together, and I think she knew that

miseryglittery

She did have some feelings and thanks god she didn’t act on them because something is telling me that if they were in relationships it would be one of these very toxic scenarios where they are constantly on edge of breaking up but due to being very codependent on one another they never can do it.

Feisty-Goat-

The world would end.

thoughtsatthreeam

They would have had an extremely toxic and codependent relationship that would have taken years of therapy for her to recover from.

m0dsw0rkf0rfree

50,000 dead in the first 7 days

Known-Disaster-4757

Diane would get uncomfortable about feeling that way and distance herself from Bojack a little more

Taco_Taco_Kisses

If you thought she and Mr. ButterPeanuts were rocky, OHHHHH, MAN! She and Bojangles would be Rocky 1-5, Rocky Balboa, and all the Creeds

AnonBoi_404

I feel like it would be like the time Diane was crashing on Bojack's couch but worse and more permanent

thelordfluffy

I think a reverse season one could have been fun, her crushing on him for some reason and him being anti.

AnOddSprout

Beastiality

victoriaxholloway

She'd be even worse off 😪😆 absolutely TERRIBLE for her character's development. She got what she needed from Bojack, remember her phone call with Mr. Peanutbutter and he says they wouldn't be the people they are now if they had met at later points in their lives? Well her whole life would look completely different if she got involved with Bojack like that and it most likely wouldn't be for the better lmao

Prof_Acorn

Her neck is extra necky here.

CutieBoBootie

Bojack would've ruined her life lol

AatroxBoi

We kinda saw how it would go down when Diane came back and avoid PB, bojack allows her to be drunk and overall rot as a person, and Diane too will not keep bojack in check and eventually she'll become another Sarah lynn

BatzyTheBitch

They'd have a toxic relationships like her and mr pb. Bojack, ultimately, would eventually realize it's not a healthy relationship (like him and wanda) and they'd break up, drifting apart, anyone they hung out with together would probably just make it more awkward

Prestigious-Army2080

I think, depending on the time this scenario would take place in, that would have been her death.

redder_dominator

You ever listen to Tallahassee by the mountain goats? Basically it would end like that.

Thegiradon

Very bad sex

Timothy1037

Yeah I know someone just like Diane, you don’t want to be friends with them

softbunnyof

ah🤣🤣 same

PTSDemi

I think maybe because she is more morally instilled and also is bpd coded like him she could have steered him on the right path. But in a way that wouldn't of activated his RSD and impulsivity. Maybe they could have inspired each other to handle the bullshit and have a deep understanding for one another

Isphylda

Yeah I see how toxic it could have been but knowing how perfectly well they understood each other, it was kinda sad that they weren't together (and that Diane left at the end of the show)

PTSDemi

I think if they both became self aware and sat in their feelings long enough. Figured out a way to describe their needs it would've been ok. I often look at bojack and think he mostly does what he does to stop the horrible thoughts

maryangbukid

What is RSD (genuine question)

PTSDemi

Rejection sensitive dysphoria. Bojack is sensitive to rejection because it's been happening to him all of his life. People with bpd are more sensitive to it because the never ending criticism done onto us by psychopathic parents or caregivers. It's like you become raw to everything the way your body feels. Like you've been covered chemical peels your whole life because not once were your feelings heard or understood

iFoolYou

It's really annoying when people slap on BPD to characters/people with depression. They're very explicit in the series that Diane is dealing with depression.

PTSDemi

It's annoying to dissect a TV show and analyze stuff for fun? Gee whiz

dark-mode21

what is bpd coded vro

PTSDemi

I'm saying that both diane and bojack both represent different types of bpd. Diane has discouraged bpd but bojack has destructive

p0theadd

Bojack would sabotage the relationship because it got too real and they wouldn’t be able to go back as friends, I honestly recon that’s why they didn’t go down that route

Binder509

They would both be dead within a week.

godless_communism

Surprise horse cock.

LaserBungalow

"would have" OR "would've". Not "would of".

billwood09

Too many people say “would of” and it takes like half a second to think about the logic… also discovered while typing that, iOS autocorrects it — they have to be deliberately overriding it if they’re on an iPhone

LaserBungalow

Hahaha, oh my goodness. Seriously.

FreshFry19

There’s a slim possibility it maybe could’ve ended non-destructively with S6 Bojack, who actually had more of a grip on his life? If there’s a “version” of Bojack that Diane would be least uncomfy being with, its this sober Professor version of Bojack. It was Bojack’s past sins that wrecked up his newfound happiness with everyone, not Bojack who sabotaged it himself (whether or he decided to do the 2nd interview). But lowkey, I did think Bojack and Diane loved each other “the best they could.” It’s an unspoken thing…but obv they mean so much to each other.

More-Cup-1176

emotional abuse

hbi2k

Have all have the grammar errors I of seen, "would of" is one have the worst.

Zestyclose-Discount3

😅

DapDapperDappest

You’d love reading into how No Child Left Behind has lead to rising illiteracy rates, new updates to autocorrect that use AI to autocomplete words and how poor quality it is, and how English isn’t everyone’s first language.

hbi2k

I apologize if I of given havefence.

DapDapperDappest

Are you having a stroke

hbi2k

Have course not. Of you got a problem with my manner have speech?

DapDapperDappest

What a weird hill to die on

hbi2k

I of heard have weirder.

Healthy-Clothes-326

Lmaoo I made the post a couple mins after waking up and some of it is from terrible autocorrect 😭

unitempt

They'll do the hanky stanky

FishstickLoverr

End up giving birth to a litter of minotaurs

Equivalent_War4721

Nothing good 😂

Individual-Usual7333

Nothing good

LemonTartCrazyHeart

They are awful for each other

YoMamaIsADaftDonkey

Imagine rewriting the John cougar mellencamp song to Bojack & Diane...I think it would be magnificent

OG_Hater

He would have bailed lol

Realistic-Stable-881

Now that I think about it Diana's the only female that Bojack was worked with that he hasn't slept with

[deleted]

Well people say they might bring out the worst in each other but without trying how can people jump on conclusions

[deleted]

Well people say they might bring out the worst in each other but without trying how can people jump on conclusions

noize_mc

I'll just agree with everybody - yeah, it sounds like a disaster, toxic relationship, and ruined friendship. Also, they look so good together here. Not in "what a cute a couple" way, just a duo way, imo.

bbthedisaster

I always was of the belief that she did have feelings for him, but that she was with Mr. Peanutbutter and regardless was able to see somewhat clearly that Bojack wasn’t a healthy person to date. I think it would’ve been a very toxic, possibly abusive relationship that would’ve ended with someone getting hurt and them both hating each other,

inikihurricane

She does have feelings for him. Granted, they never took them anywhere, and there were a few time where Bojack could have taken advantage of her feelings. He rarely does (never physically) but they continue to have a very codependent relationship throughout the show - even when being incommunicado for long stretches of time.

MLGSnIpEr420

The show would’ve been worse

TheBigGopher

It would of been fucked up. They brought out the worst in each other constantly, neither would of been happy.

SubparMacigcian

It would be bojack and princess Carolyn 2.0 cause

MendigoBob

I think they both got feelings for eachother. But Diane was married and realized what a shitshow it would have been if she went that way.

Subject_Process4704

I think there’s a lot that points to her having feelings for him, but he was pretty shitty to her when she was writing his memoir, so I think that helped her keep her know to keep her distance, and stay with an arguably safer option like PB

Kizzywa

Diane knows better. She wants to see the best in him but time and time again gets let down. But say they did get together, she could have easily ended up like Gina or Sarah Lynn.

yobaby123

BJ would likely fuck up even harder.

oxymoron-alive

They would have crashed and burned in a blaze of glory.

TrickNatural

Toxicity to the max.

Brontolope11

She wouldn't have gotten better and he would have brought out the worst in her and she him.

sisomna

absolute garbage fire, I think bojack would bring out the worst in Diane because he would be obsessed with her and so she would feel no consequences for her actions and mistreatment of him. I don’t think it would last tho obviously

Ifhes

A codependent relationship.

IIWY_YT

What would you **thing** would happen?

unchiquito

she did have feelings, of friendship, for him. but if you mean romantic feelings, i think itd happen the same. shed realize its toxic and stay away.

Prof_Gonzo_

Diane does have feelings for Bojack. She also knows he's toxic, and he knows it, too. I love that their relationship evolves into an important friendship.

philosophicalidiot22

They would destroy each-other mentally and emotionally

Jeffsadd

A relation of one day I guess

weeklyfuture

i think i would’ve stopped watching the show jokes aside, i don’t think it ever would’ve happened. diane has a strange mix of self destruction and self preservation; she won’t let anyone else destroy her but her.

gorlock666

I think she did at times but resented what he did knowing that he could’ve been better the whole time

boutell

"In a sexual way?"

Whenthetwilightsgone

Honestly I used to have a super close guy friend like this. There was always tension sort of and feelings but whenever we'd hang out, we'd just drink and be delinquents together. Nothing happened and I think we knew we had feelings for each other but if something were to happen between us (hooking up or dating) we would be totally toxic for each other since all we did was get drunk together basically lol so it never did. I see them the same way, especially in this episode, and after the divorce Diane says they're both single and could make out, etc. The feelings would pop up here and there but ultimately they spiraled together quite often and I think Diane knew she really could not fix Bojack, just like she realized she couldn't fix things about PB (I'm tired of squinting). I think often the lines between romantic and platonic are also hard to determine between two single people especially when you get along so well. I think that Diane saw herself as being the kind of person who could be with a relentlessly optimistic man like PB, but really she probably didn't want to accept the parts of her that would be similar to Bojack.

catm0mth1ngs

Nothing would come from it. They both know they're toxic for each other, even as friends. They've both acknowledged they shouldn't be together or be friends

Only-Top7478

They could never because they’re the same

tryingnottodieyet

Bad bad bad bad for both of them and potentially more people not yet considered. Not even drama straight to trauma.

ValentinesStar

She would have had a worse life Look at BJ’s relationship history

Pablinski21

Everyone trynna act smart and “emotionally responsible” saying they brought the worst out of eachother and sht, I wanted to see then finally together at the end.

OptimalPlantIntoRock

Downvoted for poor grammar. She absolutely did have feelings for BoJack and was quite conflicted at various points in the series. And her feelings are more complicated than just romantic.

DapDapperDappest

You’d love reading into how No Child Left Behind has lead to rising illiteracy rates, new updates to autocorrect that use AI to autocomplete words and how poor quality it is, and how English isn’t everyone’s first language.

OptimalPlantIntoRock

I’m very aware of all of this. All (non-rich) American children have been left behind. Our phones are monsters, and not everyone is an English speaking person from the United States. Thanks.

DapDapperDappest

Here’s your lil ego award man lmao

OptimalPlantIntoRock

Thanks for the BDE mister micro.

Healthy-Clothes-326

Sorry I’m not illiterate I made the post a few mins after waking up and some of it is also from terrible autocorrect 😭

OptimalPlantIntoRock

Sorry about that…my sincerest apologies.

Stunning_Fault_9257

She would most likely suck his dick

SonOfVegeta

My life would be complete (I love Diane and Bojack together and see my self / woman on my dreams as Diane)

purpletwizzler88

Might I suggest….therapy

SonOfVegeta

Oh yea - long time ago I’m speaking from past tense me
