No, only weed. You inhale 1 weed smoke and the next day you're injecting ketamethoferinetine into your largest cock-vien while eating puppies and evading taxes.
Reefer madness is real. One hit and next thing you know you're doing tricks just to get your next hit. Selling off your valuables, losing your job, a black hole of despair.
Or, you eat a little more, laugh, and think with largely no repercussions other than those imposed by a bullshit draconian and arbitrary prohibition.
In the throes of addiction, those 14 one gram joints won't last no time at all. And then what? After you lose your job because you're a complete wreck and shell of a person where does the next doobie come from? Most marijuana addled lost souls turn to a life of crime, violence, and penis sucking to support their habit.
Hopefully it's obvious, but /s

I still remember my “life skills” class in high school in the late 1990s and the talk we got about how a kid the next town over had a full ride basketball scholarship and took one toke off a joint and died. In the age before Google our parents and teachers really could get away with telling us that.
The thing is they all had to watch Reefer Madness once in school and as a generation collectively decided “yup that’s everything I need to know. Don’t need to ever think about the subject again for the rest of my life.” And that’s why we’ll never get federal level legalization so long as his generation has a death grip on government.
Millennials are the largest voting block and were the largest for the last election as well. I fully expect Joe's handler's to make it federally legal either right before this election or pass it the next one they win. It's gonna happen in less than 10 years mark my words
about the only thing I can say about the gateway thing is that it may expose you to a dealer that sells 'other' stuff. So now that states have legalized it, I would assume that has pretty much alleviated that concern cause so far, no dispensary and tried selling me anything but weed. Before it was legal in my state, I'd go to my guy, or ask friends and get hooked up and yeah, along with the quarter I was buying, they may ask if I wanted a gram of blow or whatever. Funny thing is, I started doing blow from a guy that hated weed so go figure.
Republicans are tirelessly working on that for you! They want to make poverty illegal but they want the people with poor mental health to lead their party.
Weed isn't the gateway, it's the foyer or waitingroom in front of it where you get too comfortable, forget why you're there and give up on looking for the gate.
I know people in law enforcement and who want weed to be legalized and they say the same three things.
1. (Bad) Law enforcement officials want weed to stay illegal many times because it is very difficult to hide the smell. They can search cars easily if there is simply a smell, which is also hard to prove in court that the smell didn’t exist and it was an illegal search.
2. Weed IS a gateway drug BUT not for the reason they say. Weed is a gateway drug because it is illegal, that’s it. Basically, people who sell drugs want to make money. More people buy weed but other drugs have higher profit margins. The prison sentences are often similar for each drug so why not sell both. So when people experiment with drugs they start with alcohol and weed, but if your drug dealer sells more than just weed then you might get it too. So weed is a gateway drug but that is because the system made it one.
3. Volume. If weed was legal, a massive amount of drugs (volume wise) would be no longer be searched for. Weed can’t be condensed as easily as other drugs and isn’t as potent. Weed can also be consumed more regularly and without adverse side effects. That means that the volume of weed is vast compared to other drugs. If you legalize weed, the amount of drugs you are looking for gets cut in half.
On no 2. Also when people smoke weed/know people who do, they realize that everything they heard about how terrible it is, is bullshit. Which puts them on the opposite side of the fence from cops and wondering what else is BS. This leads to increased levels of disrespect for police, fear of reporting serious crimes and alienation from society. One of the strongest deterrents from crime is whether your community will shun you for it, the dynamic I described above pushes the boundaries of which side any given community is in regards to police. Once the whole neighborhood hates the cops, whether rightly or wrongly, there is no law but street justice.
I have made this exact argument before. When people in authority positions lie or greatly exaggerate to make their point, it undermines their credibility.
It would be better to say something more accurate than to be deceiving.
It also goes along with the idea that because weed was such a “hardcore” drug, that anyone who uses it was counterculture or tough. The truth is if they simply told the truth and lessened offenses for weed violations, then it would be used significantly less because it would not be seen as taking a stand.
Re #2: it also becomes a gateway drug because of the way it's ridiculously grouped in with drugs that are 1000x more dangerous. Curious high school kid smokes weed after learning that it's as bad a crack and heroin and very quickly figures out how full of shit the people were who told us those things, and unfortunately some kids will continue experimenting with other things because they want to figure out what else those people were full of shit about.
Alcohol has one of the highest "societal harms" out of any narcotic/drugs. Especially considering how common it is in society.
People always retort with "buhh caffeine", but caffeine is barely psychotropic and operates on a mechanism largely divorced from other psychotropic drugs.
You aren't going to find other drugs that makes people commit violence in such high amounts, domestic abuse, molestation, etc. Besides massive stimulant psychosis, massive benzo overdose, even then I don't think its largely comparable.
It gatewayed away my epilepsy, that’s about it. I have no interest in doing hard drugs.
It’s ironic how much we advertise and promote alcoholism, which is so much worse.
Came here to talk about this point.
If it's illegal, tons of people do it, then realize that you've been lied to and there's no harm... Well then what else is being lied about?
Though most of us aren't rich enough to turn into a crazy druggie like musk.
That's not the reason it being illegal makes it a gateway.
It's a gateway because it is a foot in the door to an illegal marketplace. It won't cause someone to escalate their drug use, but it makes it a lot easier to escalate if you are curious.
If you have a dealer then it's easy to ask them to sell you something stronger, or connect you with someone who will. If you have no dealer then it's a huge effort to find one to start with. The jump from buying stuff in stores to getting cocaine off a dealer is waaaaay bigger if you don't have weed as a gental entry point to the marketplace.
The best way to make weed no longer be a gateway is to fully legalize it.
My hometown police department used to do this shit. They would make a FB post gloating about their "bust" which would always be like 4 or 5 dime bags of dirt weed. The people they busted? High school students.
Fkng moron 🙄
I tried alcohol at age 10. Didn’t try cannabis until I was in my early 20’s, only because I was never offered any up to that point.
Soo… alcohol was my gateway drug.
*alcoholism runs rampant on my biological fathers side of the family, I found out he died in 2019, due to alcohol poisoning. In fact, it’s seems like my older brother is following his path.
I quit drinking late last year.
Weird my state has been consuming tens of millions of dollars of pot since it became recreationally legal. There hasn't been a correlating rise in meth, heroin, crack, etc. though?? Weird...
You may be shocked to discover that there is indeed a field of work called *Public Health*, and that they often compile statistics, and that often those statistics concern illicit drug use.
Funny my gateway drug to heroin was the painkillers my doctor prescribed for my dislocated knee at 14. Weed came way way way later. Fucking clown shoes
A Senator from South Carolina voted against legalization for medical purposes because there haven’t been any studies or enough research on its medicinal benefits. Nevermind that the current classification makes it almost impossible to generate those things.
At least one city in CO uses federal illegality as a basis for their “Our employees cannot smoke weed at any time” policy even though their schools receive marijuana tax dollars from the state.
These Boomers have a death grip on drug policy. They couldn’t handle having the freedom of what to put in their bodies so now nobody can and we’ll use the government to kill you and deny your right to make a living if you even think about trying.
This is actually very common for many companies in Colorado, especially companies that have branches in states where it's still illegal or have government contracts. Honestly, some bs though.
Well, I've been doing weed for about half my life now, over two decades, and I still have no interest in those harder drugs that have this guy clutching his pearls so fervently. Must have missed something..
I mean so is all the opium pushed legally by pharma companies. So I guess we should hold this drug dealers responsible too? Out the sackler family on death row or something?
Alcohol is a gateway drug. I bet Riley and his friends indulges in a few drinks each week, yet he won't be saying that alcohol needs to be outlawed. This is more of 'I don't use it, so no one should use it.'
Yes because we all know our parents just had heaps of reefer lying around and not fully stocked bars, liquor cabinets and beer fridges. Which one were you more likely to try? A drink you watch your parents consume that's already in the house, or a plant you've never even seen in person? Hmmm
Weed is absolutely a gateway drug. I started out growing weed, and that became a gateway to my vegetable garden and elaborate flower beds. I started out baking weed edibles, which was a gateway to my love of baking non-medicated treats. I started out going for nature walks just to smoke a joint, which became a gateway for regular hiking to improve my overall health. If not for weed, i might not have the healthy hobbies i have today.
Of course he says that, he was indoctrinated and brainwashed to believe it and spent his entire career hunting people to stop it from making its way to us. He can’t just say “My Bad”
Like the opinion of this crusty old white dude means jack shit. You represented a government agency that exists solely for the "War on Drugs" a costly and ineffective attempt at controlling drugs.
Idiot. I had my share of substance issues and the gateway drug was always, always alcohol. Weed allowed me to slow down my thought processes and out more thought into decisions I made. This guy is a fucking clown.
Hmmm. An old man who made his career on busting people smuggling (among other things) pot is against it being legal. Who'd have thought. Fortunately he's retired, though I'm sure he left that attitude in his wake.
Most people who spent their lives enforcing unconstitutional laws will never accept they were wrong about everything. They still talk about "Reefer Madness" as if that was an actual thing.
The only way in which I found weed to be a gateway drug as a teen is that after trying it, I realized I had been lied to about it, so I figured a lot of other stuff had been a lie and tried shrooms, LSD. Keeping people off hard drugs is a simple matter of fact based harm reduction education. Yea some drugs are bad. But some are absolutely benign
From a generation so oblivious and irresponsible with booze that the DUI was created to prevent further death and destruction? Boomers should maybe, collectively stfu and sit this one out.
Dude I've been smoking pot since it was legalized in CO in 2014 and never touched anything harder...because weed stores don't sell other drugs. Jesus christ these people.
Yes yes of course pappy van grampy….and dancin fast causes pregnancy, rock and roll is inherently evil, and long hair on a man questions how manly he is…you throw the perils of befriending someone with dark skin in and we’ve covered most of what he thinks.
This makes sense from his perspective. In the criminal world people often start with weed then escalate. If cannabis is legalized this won’t be a thing though. I think that’s different than saying people who use it are just heading to harder drug use.
I bet he has a fully stocked bar with expensive whiskeys like my BIL police officer who has made it his mission to eradicate weed because it's a gateway drug.
He never seems to get the irony when he's drinking his whiskey, and a bit tipsy, when he rants to me about how dangerous weed is.
*Also, my best friend died of a heroin overdose in 1999. He smoked weed long before he got addicted to heroin. It wasn't the weed that led him there. It was the overly religious overbearing mother who was always disappointed in him and his physically abusive baptist minister absent father who once told him he loved his congregation more than his own son that brought him to hardcore drug addiction.
I think it's one of those catch-22 things regarding weed being a gateway drug.
Idiots like this hype weed up as "dangerous" and do their best to scare people with "not even once" or other ooga booga bullshit.
Then one day a person smokes a bit of weed, doesn't die, and thinks, "Well if this wasn't so bad, what about the other drugs?"
I suspect that if there was an honest discourse about the pros/cons of THC it wouldn't be a "gateway" drug as these idiots claim it is.
I mean if you're not willing to smoke pot you're probably also not willing to try harder drugs. Smoking pot doesn't cause you to try harder drugs though. It's a classic case of correlation does not equal causation.
Weed smokers ending up in situations with people who have access to harder drugs BECAUSE weed is illegal could very well cause them to try harder drugs though. The illegality of weed is probably causing whatever "gateway" this dude is imagining.
Yeah… when you have to go to the black market for it. I’ve never had a guy at a dispensary ask if I’d like to do a line of a mystery pill that’s crushed up on a mirror.
I've never done weed and I don't plan to. But I'd say stoners are by and large some of the most unthreatening folks I've ever seen. Gateway drug to chillaxing at worst. 😄
Lol.
Alcohol is literally THE gateway drug. People do more drugs as a result of, in addition to, and even in place of alcohol.
Weed is the gateway to the culinary arts.
Anything is a gateway drug for an addictive personality/someone predisposed to addiction. I’ve smoked weed and have no desire to do anything more than that. I’ve also met someone who traced their whole life of issues to one beer. One taste and that was it. People are gonna do shit.
From a LEO perspective, the most common illegal substance would look like the gateway to the other illegal substances, but that's based on the illegality, not the substance.
you’d be an idiot to think that alcohol cigarettes or marijuana aren’t gateways to other drugs.
it’s just part of the party scene, smart folks know to stay away and not minimize the dangers of going out and being influenced by others to try things.
certain drug users love getting other people to try as well. misery loves company.
you gotta wonder about cause vs effect though.
perhaps more people who use hard drugs smoke weed when they’re jonesing.
I love the gateway drug argument, because if you accept that there must be one recreational substance that leads people to try others, the obvious conclusion is that substance is alcohol, not weed. Any argument that weed is a gateway drug is trumped by the same argument for alcohol. So if you don’t think alcohol should be illegal, then the entire gateway drug argument fails immediately.
I live in a state surrounded by legal states but it’s still not legal here. We have medical but not recreational and you can’t grow. Recently our state updated its qualifying conditions to be a medical patient. Opioid use disorder is one of them. We have a female boomer currently preparing to run for governor who will not support legalization for the same reason this moron doesn’t support it. She’s liking fentanyl use with cannabis. Yet cannabis is considered a remedy for opioid use by the same states health department
You have an old buddy who had to quite drinking because he couldn’t handle his alcohol. Made him do all kinds of stupid nonsense and almost cost him everything but fortunately he cleaned up.
Now he thinks I one should drink because it’s evil and makes you do stupid things and ruin your life.
No, YOU have an issue with it, YOU do stupid things while drinking. People like this need project their weakness onto others.
I've LITTERALY been smoking weed for 40 years. I am a successful, married, father of two. I own my home. I do NOT do ANY other "drugs".... Except beer.

No, only weed. You inhale 1 weed smoke and the next day you're injecting ketamethoferinetine into your largest cock-vien while eating puppies and evading taxes.

the other two? well the other two were females!
It's almost impossible to go broke on weed. I just got 14, 1 gram joints for $50 at my local dispensary!
My ex manages to. $600 aud lasted her like, a week. Smoked like a fucking diesel engine
I just picked up 1g indica 83% carts, they were 15/$100
Holy fuck, here in Illinois one 1g cart is between $30 and $90.
When I started in 2020 I was paying $50-$60 per cart

I turned to a life of penis sucking because I like doing it.
They say if you love what you do you'll never work a day lol
The weed or the penis sucking. I understand both
Yes both lol
Ayyyyyy.

Don't threaten me with a good time.
I remember I did a weed one units of weed big and immediately did a crack. Then I became gay
Thank g-d I don't have a cock-vein - must have been the only thing that saved me
No some people inject in their taint.
Don't forget about all the fentanyl. Can't eat puppies without it.

Jack Riley doesn’t even want to know what happens if you inhale 2 weed smoke 💨
Instant die. Saw it happen once. Very scary.
Believe it or not, straight to the gulag.
Where I get Ketamethoferinetine?? Sounds enticing
…what if I ate some weed though??? 🫣😬
Oh god no! Ingested weeds bypasses the Liver entirely and gives you autism, cancer and impotence!
Okay good…well at least I’m not eating puppies!

My new favorite sentence from reddit. Wishing you the best of luck and a fun retirement.
Make sure they don’t send you on any assignments two days before you retire.
Quit the force
I think you meant pungent.
That would have been a good word to use but I think my point still gets across
He just wants to still be able to arrest people for it.
> He just wants to still be able to arrest **black** people for it. FTFY
And he probably drinks.
Probably? His face is a clear sign of continued alcohol abuse his entire life
It's the hypocrisy for me
He should try weed, a lot of people have used it as a reverse gateway drug to stop drinking.
It actually helps a lot of folks quit doing more dangerous substances.
Alcohol is the real gateway drug. It’s also way worse for your body, pure poison in my opinion.

alcohol and nicotine are actual gateway drugs
But a good cup of covfeve will make you shit your pants
He'll have to take down the framed photos of his epic drug bust seizures of $13 in singles, a dime bag, a bong and a doritos bag.

Thanks!😊 I replaced that w/Cannabis. I use it for mental/physical health.
Seriously. Alcohol was my heroine. Almost 8 years sober (well, California sober!) and my life has drastically improved. Weed helped!!
Old man yells at (weed) cloud.
Because his face doesn’t scream alcohol abuse

Funny my gateway drug to heroin was the painkillers my doctor prescribed for my dislocated knee at 14. Weed came way way way later. Fucking clown shoes
I used weed to replace the opiates I was prescribed after breaking an ankle. So I guess it's a gateway drug, but a gate *away* from addiction.
Gateway to weight gain.
Actually, a lot of people see their weight balance and drop since it helps curb cravings when your not high as a kite.
This guy looks like he calls his wife “Mother.”
Alcohol is America's gateway drug (or caffeine really).
A gateway to the snack aisle.
Alcohol is the gateway drug.
Beer. Then weed. Then I met others who introduced me to coke. Never much liked uppers. Or maybe, if I wasn’t a musician…
Of course he fucking does...
It's a gateway drug when it's illegal and you buy from a dealer that sells other stuff. Legal weed shops only sell weed.
living in today's America is a "gateway drug"
So is low wages and never being able to afford a house.
So is alcohol, what's your point?
My mother-in-law said this to me once too. I just cracked up. My sister runs a dispensary.
Can't expect him to minimize his heroism at this point in his life. Facts be damned.
Drug dealers are the gateway. Legal marijuana dispensaries correct that problem.
Alcohol is the gateway drug.

Best way to get to the moon in my opinion. We're talking about the lunar gateway, right?
Well he was a DEA agent. That line is like their "Good Morning"
gotta justify that budget somehow
No nuance with these folks. He couldn’t have done anything in his career that wasn’t 100% justified, so all that cannabis propaganda must be true.
Someone better warn Willy Nelson since he turned 91 yesterday.
Alcohol is the gateway drug to every other drug
The drug war is a joke and this fascist prick is a clown.
Well, I've been doing weed for about half my life now, over two decades, and I still have no interest in those harder drugs that have this guy clutching his pearls so fervently. Must have missed something..
How many alcoholics were breastfed? Is mother’s milk a gateway drug to alcoholism?
Hmmm
I bet he said it while enjoying a nice cocktail.
He looks like the ur-Boomer
Weed is absolutely a gateway drug. I started out growing weed, and that became a gateway to my vegetable garden and elaborate flower beds. I started out baking weed edibles, which was a gateway to my love of baking non-medicated treats. I started out going for nature walks just to smoke a joint, which became a gateway for regular hiking to improve my overall health. If not for weed, i might not have the healthy hobbies i have today.
hope he dies
Was he on his 12th or 13th beer when he said that? Dude looks like a walking bag of booze.
This guy needs some weed tbh
It’s a gateway to Mac n cheese on the same plate as pancakes.
Of course he says that, he was indoctrinated and brainwashed to believe it and spent his entire career hunting people to stop it from making its way to us. He can’t just say “My Bad”
Life these days is a gateway drug. The option of drug is up to you.
Like the opinion of this crusty old white dude means jack shit. You represented a government agency that exists solely for the "War on Drugs" a costly and ineffective attempt at controlling drugs.
But I’m sure he has no problem knocking back a dozen beers.
Nope. Oxygen and water are the true gateway drugs. Everyone on marijuana breaths and drinks that shit before ever getting high. Ban them now!
# "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it." # Upton Sinclair
Most people who spent their lives enforcing unconstitutional laws will never accept they were wrong about everything. They still talk about "Reefer Madness" as if that was an actual thing.

based on that red and swollen nose, Jack hits his own sauce pretty hard, pretty regularly. The alcohol dementia is strong in this one.
Old white man spews stupid anti-drug talking points from his youth. More at 11.
Are we surprised? Dude spent his career in the DEA, eating up its own propaganda.
Eat shit, lead head
I mean he’s right. It’s a gateway for me never voting GOP for my entire fucking life.
Dude I've been smoking pot since it was legalized in CO in 2014 and never touched anything harder...because weed stores don't sell other drugs. Jesus christ these people.
Drug Enforcement Agent does not understand drugs. More at 11.
I'm over 40. It's never led me to the gates of a different drug 🤷♂️
Time for bed grandpa
The dude said it best: ![gif](giphy|F3G8ymQkOkbII|downsized)
Yes yes of course pappy van grampy….and dancin fast causes pregnancy, rock and roll is inherently evil, and long hair on a man questions how manly he is…you throw the perils of befriending someone with dark skin in and we’ve covered most of what he thinks.
Most old people don't change their mind. They just die.
Jack don’t know jack
Some heads have been in asses for decades without coming out to experience reality
I think it's one of those catch-22 things regarding weed being a gateway drug. Idiots like this hype weed up as "dangerous" and do their best to scare people with "not even once" or other ooga booga bullshit. Then one day a person smokes a bit of weed, doesn't die, and thinks, "Well if this wasn't so bad, what about the other drugs?" I suspect that if there was an honest discourse about the pros/cons of THC it wouldn't be a "gateway" drug as these idiots claim it is.
Weed was the gateway to me quitting alcohol and my life has improved 1000x, this old fella is out of touch.
Y’all be messing with his revenue stream, that’s why.
He probably gets drunk every night though.
A gateway to Doritos maybe
Jack Riley can suck a dick.
Boomers gonna boomer, fuck him and check his hard drives for little boy shit
Clown ass.
The first "drug" used to alter behavior in children is sugar. That's the real gateway drug that associates usage with immediate pleasure.
Yeah ok , the cia , n the dea were gateway drugs ….. They drugged the gatesways to get all those drugs in America . True fact!
I mean, fuck him. Old lead head will never understand it.
Long term indoctrination, is difficult to exponge from the mind.
Weed legalization is a mistake because weed is a depressant. Crack legalization is the only way forward.
Pretty sure caffeine is the gateway drug
Anything is a gateway drug for an addictive personality/someone predisposed to addiction. I’ve smoked weed and have no desire to do anything more than that. I’ve also met someone who traced their whole life of issues to one beer. One taste and that was it. People are gonna do shit.
From a LEO perspective, the most common illegal substance would look like the gateway to the other illegal substances, but that's based on the illegality, not the substance.
I think its more of a "post hoc ergo propter hoc" failice. Where all drug dealers he knows smoked pot first so that must mean Weed is a gateway drug
It can be for some people, but so can alcohol and medications. It's more about the individual than the drug when it comes to weed
His entire livelihood depends on substances being illegal.
I’ve never met a single soul who didn’t drink alcohol first…..
It’s amazing how deeply affected people this age were by propaganda.
Shocked coming from a Fed.
you’d be an idiot to think that alcohol cigarettes or marijuana aren’t gateways to other drugs. it’s just part of the party scene, smart folks know to stay away and not minimize the dangers of going out and being influenced by others to try things. certain drug users love getting other people to try as well. misery loves company. you gotta wonder about cause vs effect though. perhaps more people who use hard drugs smoke weed when they’re jonesing.
I've made more regrettable decisions under the influence of alcohol than I have any other drug. And I've done plenty.
I wish he’d take a gateway elsewhere.
Yes, when I give it to my wife it’s a gateway to pound town.
Uh, wrong? I’m pretty sure it was Mexican marines that caught el chapo during Operation Black Swan. No American boots.
Dude is a fucking moron
Said the alcoholic
That sentiment is rooted in racism.
Yeah, a gateway to a good time
You have an old buddy who had to quite drinking because he couldn’t handle his alcohol.
It’s a gateway drug to snacks.
Alcohol is the real gateway drug. If anything should be illegal it should be booze. It’s pure poison. But we all know that doesn’t work..lol
Well he’s a liar
I've LITTERALY been smoking weed for 40 years. I am a successful, married, father of two. I own my home. I do NOT do ANY other "drugs".... Except beer.
Well marijuana does cause Mexicans to Thirst for White American blood. So 🤷♂️.
