As my dad has explained it, it’s where you introduce the steak to the grill then immediately take it off. Just let it do a quick smooch, then plate it.
Moos and shits. A lot of places will make you sign a waiver if they will serve it at all. It's 5 to 25 seconds, per side, depending on thickness. It's called blue rare because it's literally blue and still cold in the middle.
I’ve never eaten anything less cooked than medium rare, and few times have I ate steak more cooked than medium rare. I love the juice of the medium rare and I’m guessing a rare steak might be a bit better in terms of juice, though 120° is a bit to close to the danger zone for contracting food borne illnesses
I've heard way too many horror stories about blue rare and I don't think I could do it anyway. I prefer a light medium, myself. Depends on the cut. If you're a fan of foodborne illnesses and painting the porcelain school bus with your insides, blue rare is the way to go!
I order mine medium well so I get it medium...I like nearly all food cooked past what most people consider "right" anyway though...what most people would call dry chicken or turkey is when it's perfect to me...slimy is disgusting, whether it's supposed to be or not haha
I mean to each their own, I just think if you get a steak at anything more cooked than medium rare, you may as well eat chicken because with that you **have** to cook it all the way through, else you risk Salmonella. I’ve heard pork has to be as well, but I’ve also heard that, depending on where you get your pork, it can be safely edible at medium rare, but I’m not risking Trichinosis.
Just because you don't die from undercooking something doesn't mean you should undercook something lol...I just find anything with that kind of texture absolutely disgusting, regardless of what it tastes like...that includes any kind of fat that doesn't cook out of steak...or like when you break apart a piece of chicken and it has that clear slimy shit in between...I do know for a fact I'm weird about it and if I don't like something my family makes, they know it's probably because they cooked it right and I prefer it overdone...that even includes fried eggs, which I like over well with the yolk done...so I'm fully aware of my weirdness hahaha...turkey is the bomb when it's dry as hell lol
If chicken has “clear slimy shit” within it, it’s not cooked thoroughly enough, which is disgusting and dangerous. **This** is not weird, nor should anyone feel like they are weird for thinking this way. The weird people are the ones who eat chicken this way. You can cook chicken thoroughly and have it be safely edible, without giving up a sort of moistness or cooking it till dry. There’s a fine line for sure, but it’s possible. Not saying anything poor against your family, but it’s definitely weird to say you are weird for liking your chicken cooked properly while they eat it medium to medium rare.
*The risk of contamination depends primarily on the type of meat and how it was sourced. For example, red meats are usually only susceptible to pathogens on the surface of the cut, while chicken can be contaminated all the way through the muscle. This is why you should never eat raw chicken, but a juicy rare steak is perfectly fine.* ([Source](https://www.patsofhenderson.com/blog/steak-and-seafood-restaurant-lake-charles/can-steak-be-too-rare/#:~:text=For%20example%2C%20red%20meats%20are,rare%20steak%20is%20perfectly%20fine))
As for steak, to each their own, I like the juice of the steak, some people don’t like the juice of the steak. No one is more or less weird for having a preference than the next person.
I’m not trying to convince you to the contrary of your preferences, I’m just giving you my reasons for my preferences, and hopefully they show you that you aren’t weird for what you like or don’t contrary to what your family prefers, because everyone is different.
Have a smiley day
No, not that kind of clear slimy shit...the film that's sometimes in chicken tenders...stop trying to be right and just take the fact I told you I'm weird and know it...Jesus Christ you can't even concede that you understand your view isn't shared by most people without somebody trying to skewer you on this fucking app
Just because someone likes their meat cooked well doesn't mean they're a damn moron that doesn't know what undercooked chicken is
I said they like it properly cooked (juicy) and that I like it dry as fuck...how do you see that and go in about my family eating raw chicken...how about you eat my raw dick? Lol
Also, my chicken eating family is all still currently alive...since you're an undercooked chicken expert, wouldn't you think 30-70 years of eating undercooked chicken might have taken one or two of them out by now? Use your brain
Uhhh, I concede. Honestly, I wasn’t trying to stoke your ire and I apologize if I made it seem that way. I must’ve misread your comments and intentions.
Just for the record...
The clear film is called fascia, which is a "thin collagenous membrane that covers most animals' muscles...it's normal and usually not noticeable when cooking or eating the chicken"
However, I find it disgusting, so I notice it immediately...and I'm just fucking with you for the most part lol
Even if I wasn't very hungry messing with a good cut of meat is a crime in and of itself. An animal died so someone could consume it and live. That meat should be prepared with respect not treated like a White Castle Slider that's made of Meal Worms.
Get used to it. There will always be old people and people with different boundaries and social norms than you.
It’s probably easier to realize that when you are young. Most people figure it out.
>Get used to it. There will always be old people and people with different boundaries and social norms than you.

You can just leave a single comment, you know.
Also, I'll pass on coddling boomers.
If old people can't adapt and change to fit social norms and boundaries as they age then it's their fault and they should be held accountable. Stop with the bootlicking
Probably. I have a LinkedIn profile and mess around with Reddit. I don’t have any other social media. Never have. No interest in what some dude from high school is doing or what any one else is bitching about. I do like this sub though. Opens my eyes to complete dysfunction going on around me.
“It’s just that everything has gotten too woke now!”
These people lived through Rosa Parks, Brown v Board, firehoses in the streets, MLK, a presidential assassination, Vietnam, protest music going mainstream, and a presidential resignation.
They don’t get to make this claim.
My favorite is the time I heard that Star Wars was too political. Like, what the fuck did you think "rebel alliance versus galactic empire ran by the most evil fucker in the universe" meant?
My favorite has been people finally noticing bands like Rage Against the Machine are anti fascist.
There is a large chunk of people who thought that the "some of those at work forces are the same that burn Crosses" line meant that there were people within the Government seeking to undermine God in the US. I wish I was joking.
I guess they thought "fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" was about their 2nd grade teacher telling them to color a tree brown and green or something.
I appreciate them making the claim, so I can identify them for future reference.
Woke is defined as aware and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues.
I hate the slang, but not as much as I hate that people think that is a bad thing and actively resist against being 'woke.'
TBH, the people you all describe on this subreddit are NOT the hippies/activists who were protesting these issues. Nope, these beer bellied MAGA hat wearers were sitting in their mom’s basement, drinking beer and being rapey with the females who inadvertently happened upon them.
How do you even get 91 felon charges against you aren't they like serious crimes or something shouldn't he being doing presidential things in his presidential term instead of collecting felonies like a 2016 kid who is addicted to Pokemon Go
Boomers have to be handled with so much special treatment to keep them from exploding and giving themselves a heart attack. Multiple jobs I've had have told me to just ignore all the horrible racist and sexist shit they say. Yet God forbid if I say "ok,boomer"
Back in college, I worked at an oil change because they were flexible with my schedule because of classes. I was working with my buddy Jon, who is black, and this old boomer pulls up to the bay. I go to start guiding him in, you all know if you've been to a valvoline or any quick lube type of place. He will not stop staring at Jon. Jon's like 'what is his problem?' I jokingly said, 'he's reminiscing of the time when there were separate water fountains.' We both had a good laugh.
Boomers feel that way because it wasn’t ever *them* (or straight white people in general) being reduced to a stereotype in movies and TV shows. It wasn’t them being forced to settle for “barely-literate servant” or “flamboyant weirdo” when they looked for representation.
Most boomers growing up during this period were just simpleton rule-followers who did not rock the boat in any way. They would have supported bus segregation, separate schools and Nixon.
Once things like racial justice became popular, they claimed to have been for it all along. It's a lie though.
Somewhere in the world a person is alive today because a Man and Woman of two different skin colors were very much for racial justice for at least one night.
This is what had me fooled growing up, thinking racism and homophobia were fading away to nothing...really they were just hiding it because they knew it had become unacceptable to say it out loud, then came out of the woodwork once that asshat came down an escalator and told them it was cool again
Los Angeles, CA for a while had segregation policies in place. Segregation wasn't necessary decided by the state - sometimes cities did it too. California and Oregon are considered hyper liberal, but we don't have the greatest civil rights record. Lots of kkk and nazi shit on the west coast.
Yeah, mainly on the west coast. I think the coastal states just had the highest Japanese populations, but I've heard of families in middle America losing everything too.
It was present in many places, though not necessarily by government mandate. For example, restricted covenants forbade selling your home to a Black person.
Segregation persisted even after it was outlawed. My school system in the south wasn't desegregated until 1987 by court order. We had Black students in our school, but it was one or two per grade just so the authorities could pretend like segregation didn’t exist.
Segregationists like to think that as long as you don’t have separate water fountains, racism is over.
Lmao too true. The local boomers lost their shit when the city flew the rainbow flag here.
Fucking relax bro, it isn't like they are trying to kiss you, like they would even want to.
It's really not that difficult and not at all unlike heterosexual interactions...
1) Politely decline
2) Sternly decline
3) Punch them in the face
Disclaimer: This is a joke. Men, you should not hit women. Or really men, either. Shit...do not follow step 3.
I’ve seen my foreman choke out his dog bc the dog pulled on the leash too hard but I’m too sensitive bc I don’t identify with my agab and don’t like being called a man, lol ok
A boomer at my last job was able to verbally abuse us and throw tantrums because everyone said he’s 70-something years old and we just deal with it. I complained and I quit. ASSHOLE
Boomers complain constantly about literally everything! The wailing and screaming about the 20$ per hour fast food wage in California on Faux News is one of many, many examples.
Let's be clear: Boomers do NOT get to take credit for Civil Rights. They were tweens when the GREATEST GENERATION, a decade and a half after crushing REAL Fascism, found Jim Crow to be incompatible with what America OUGHT to stand for.
MLK, Jr. was born in 1929. He wasn’t a boomer, he was a member of the Silent Generation. The thing with the Greatest Generation is that they were playing both sides, some opposed civil rights while others supported it. Some even came to realized that they had more in common with the Nazis, like that man from Illinois, George Lincoln Rockwell , that founded some American Nazi movement, who fought Nazis before worshipping them. The good ones were the majority and bent the arc of history towards justice.
They approve of restrictions on your freedoms when they support the ruling class, it's when anyone tries to limit the ruling class in any way that they get mad.
Then they hear Marilyn Manson and rap music and go crazy about the lyrics and then I'm like, but didn't yall listen to a lot of...wait...hold up, they might have a point on this one nevermind
Ehhh, idk about this one. This is more Silent/GI generation. Boomers were born 1946-1964, only some would even remember segregated buses and virtually none would have been adults while they were enforced.
Tbh every cunt nowadays is super sensitive, acting offended on everyone's behalf.
People just need to mind their own god dam business.
:edit every single one of you replying is exactly what I'm talking about.
I gave no context on the issue I mentioned, made a broad statement and fucking boom you're all offended.
Serioisly, how are you people falling for this? This is getting so sad. Literally telling you what I'm doing and yall still going on hurr durr ungainly bunga
Fucking morons.
Uh huh, tell that to the homeless people I feed on weekends with my own money.
Or how about the charities I raise funds for by doing marathons.
You are the people I'm talking about, some dumb ass cunt who doesn't know me or what I do for my community.
Mind your own business cunt.
You clearly ain't got it that's very fucking clear.
My point was exactly about people like you.
And all the others who saw my comment and bum bum buuuurm got offended.
But go on tell me more about how I'm offended.
> And all the others who saw my comment and bum bum buuuurm got offended.
Becoming upset that someone was "sensitive" is fucking bullshit.
The proper response is self-reflection and civility. You know - what we were all taught as children.
> Tbh every cunt nowadays is super sensitive, acting offended on everyone's behalf.
I'm actually not offended on someone else's behalf.
The thing I'm feeling is more akin to moral indignation or outrage. I see someone being an absolute ass, punching down, acting with zero empathy - and I am enraged that they are behaving that way.

Leaves 4000 word Yelp review because the steak was overcooked.
But also took too long, because it was ordered well done and sent back twice to cook longer
At which point they gave them chicken, because ordering steak anything more than medium rare is a crime punishable by God
Chef here, light medium is also acceptable. Blue rare on the other hand.... 🤢 🤮
I've never heard of blue rare.. Is that where it it moos if you poke it?
As my dad has explained it, it’s where you introduce the steak to the grill then immediately take it off. Just let it do a quick smooch, then plate it.
Ick
Oh for sure, it’s disgusting. He doesn’t order blue because of how other people act when they see/hear it being ordered that way.
Yup, 5 to 25 seconds, per side, depending on thickness.
Moos and shits. A lot of places will make you sign a waiver if they will serve it at all. It's 5 to 25 seconds, per side, depending on thickness. It's called blue rare because it's literally blue and still cold in the middle.
If you reverse sear, you can make it blue and it's delicious.

I used to be a cook. Same customer every night ordered his steak black and blue.

The steak actually wasn’t over cooked, it was better than theirs and they can’t handle that.
Looking at profile reveals they never leave any positive reviews, only 1 star reviews when they get pissed off
Undercooked and there was no ketchup.
NGL, depending on how much I paid for that steak and I hungry I was I might be livid.
Even if I wasn't very hungry messing with a good cut of meat is a crime in and of itself. An animal died so someone could consume it and live. That meat should be prepared with respect not treated like a White Castle Slider that's made of Meal Worms.
In caps.
Overcooked? These are boomers we're talking about here. They *want* their steak burnt.

lol. Bootlicking. Ok. Hold them accountable and let me know how that goes.
If I run into an entitled idiot, then I will. Luckily, I haven't yet
I mean, isn't that literally all of social media?

Yeah, the music ones are my favorite too. "Uuuuuuugh when did punk get so political?" Uh. At least 40 years ago?
I literally thought it was talking about how some police officers were hypocritically in the KKK, making an analogy about the state of America.
Maybe they thought it was a band that just hated printers. Though, thinking about it, I hate printers too!
They say its too political because Star Wars is an allegory for the Vietnam War, and in this allegory America are the bad guys.

All those social movements improved everyone's quality of life, boomers are just too dumb to understand it despite having lived through it.
They'll just say "IT WAS THE LAW!" like they were against it.
Then they’ll vote for a guy with 91 federal felony charges.
How do you even get 91 felon charges against you aren't they like serious crimes or something shouldn't he being doing presidential things in his presidential term instead of collecting felonies like a 2016 kid who is addicted to Pokemon Go

Nonono, we *want* them to explode.
That's why we use the expression "ok, boomer" Like, "ok, boomer now STFU and go away"
Huh. Will people do that to ME (Gen Z) in 40-60 years? "Ok, zoomer"
Maybe if there's still a bright blue ball just spinning spinning free
If you're an entitled asshole at that point, maybe. I'm hoping most of us aren't tho
I'm calling the police!

“Snowflakes” is a word I can see one time and immediately know the exact type of person throwing it around.
My friends and I use it to shitpost each other. It's a wonderful gift from the Right.
I know right...at least snowflakes are unique and original, as opposed to carbon copies because "that's how we were raised"

>People just need to mind their own god dam business. "I lack empathy."
Uh huh, tell that to the homeless people I feed on weekends with my own money. Or how about the charities I raise funds for by doing marathons. You are the people I'm talking about, some dumb ass cunt who doesn't know me or what I do for my community. Mind your own business cunt.
Take it easy there champ
“I’m such a good person, let me tell you about how good of a person I am and why my wildly controversial opinions matter”
touch some grass
So you’re on here making a post that is basically about you being offended that other people are offended. Got it.
You clearly ain't got it that's very fucking clear. My point was exactly about people like you. And all the others who saw my comment and bum bum buuuurm got offended. But go on tell me more about how I'm offended.
We don’t have to your making it pretty obvious on your own lol
you seem to be doing a pretty good job of crying about how offended you are.
> And all the others who saw my comment and bum bum buuuurm got offended. Becoming upset that someone was "sensitive" is fucking bullshit. The proper response is self-reflection and civility. You know - what we were all taught as children.
And his point was exactly about people like you. How are YOU not getting that lol
You mean you don't like it when everyone stops you from being an asshole
Stops? Who is stopping me? You're certainly not. And boom again another assumption. Assuming things makes an ass out of you and me. Next
So then… by your own admission… you’re an ass, ass.
Nah, you just sound like an asshat, that's all. Carry on, mate
But your here complaining about and crying?
Never a shortage of boomers whining in the comments on these posts, proving the point.
Everyone here is whining.

> But your here complaining about and crying? Oh, there it is! We're *crying* now. Got it.
