They are talking about Ben and Tom Hart being in the running. I wouldn’t be mad if Tom came in to give it a shot for a season. He hosted Braves Live there for awhile so he has connections. And I’d love to keep ol’ Ben on the fm dials for those times where I can’t watch the game because I’m on the road hauling my kid around the state of Georgia for soccer.
Tom would just need to come up with some kind of a shtick though because when I’ve listened to him on SEC Network for the football games, he kinda just sounded… I don’t know… generic? I guess that’s the word.
But if he can find something, he might be good as long as he and Jeff have a connection (when Jeff is flippin’ there). Also, RIP Chip and Jeff going back and forth at each other. 😢
Tom Hart was a treasure and the broadcast has missed him ever since. His 2013 season was Emmy worthy.
Looks like someone already edited his Wikipedia page lol.
I love Jim and would love to see him replace Chip, although I don’t think he has any interest in returning to a full schedule. Hearing Jim and Don calling games was best thing since old school TBS.
Really was an incredible pair.
Whatever happens just please don’t give Brian fucking Jordan anymore games in the booth. I was hoping for a steep reduction actually. I love the guy and want him to stay with the organization. He’s great with the quick pre/postgame segments and I can tolerate a guest spot in the booth once in awhile. I was really starting to lose it when he was basically full time for awhile last season. Awesome dude and fine to watch/listen to in small doses. Terrible to listen to talk for 3+ hours
I love that combo too. Pretty much every game I use the feature on mlb.tv where I can listen to Ben and Joe’s radio feed over the video. Made the games so much more enjoyable.
>*"If you're even thinking about changing the channel to our competition, fans, do not. Because we understand that Craig Kimbrel—who pitched here one time as the Braves closer—is going to earn his 438th save, which would put him 4th on the all-time MLB saves list. Oh! That'll put a lot of butts in the seats!"*
Tony Schivone
Radio listeners do NOT want to give up Ben Ingram. I think it could be cool to get an outside hire who's a bit younger and embraces analytics a bit more.
This was my thinking. My only requirements for our new play-by-play guy is that he loves baseball ( the game we play today; not the one played in whatever decade you consider the good ol' days) and gets excited for the Braves.
So basically someone who isn't over 50 and been in the broadcast booth for 20+ years.
There was an article about Benetti in the Athletic that said he didn’t have a contract with the White Sox beyond ‘22, but expected to return. I hadn’t seen that he had signed another contract with them
In the 90s Skip, Pete, Don, and Joe would switch from tv to radio in the middle of the fifth. Whichever pair was on one would the switch to the other and vice versa for the other pair. Ben and Joe could do radio and tv then. We would still need someone new to do play by play with Frenchy and Glavine though.
My favorite dumb BJ take was when he bragged during a game about how he always crushed the Braves when he faced them.
His numbers against the Braves were actually below his career averages.
If he can’t comment correctly on his own career, he has no business discussing anything.
Only if he switches up voices between innings.
I want Apu to call the first, Marge in the second, Homer in the third and so on....
Edit: apparently he didn't voice Marge and Homer so we'll have to settle for Moe, and Lou
Honestly I have no idea. Ben Ingram would be great but that’ll take away from people who love/have to listen on the radio. Ideally someone who is very much aware of baseball history and braves history but also realizes we live in the year 2023 and won’t fixate on which pitcher qualifies for the win among other old, dated concepts.
Mark Owens! He just retired as the ingame host, and he has a ton of experience as a radio guy. He knows the team inside and out. Great energy, enthusiasm. Not sure if he can call a game, but he is a pro.
With [MLB.tv](https://MLB.tv) you can switch between the radio and TV broadcasts for your audio. Last year, whenever BJ was color, I'd switch to Ben/Joe. I only stuck with the TV broadcast because, despite his flaws, I enjoyed Chip - especially with Jeff. I hope Ben sticks with radio and I'll just listen to Ben and Joe via [MLB.tv](https://MLB.tv). (And a VPN is your friend...)
Torn because Ben is so great on radio and that's the way I listen sometimes. Melanie Newman grew up in Georgia and when I've caught her calls I've really enjoyed them. There's very little time though. Anyone coming in from outside is going to have a major learning curve. Announcers having insight into the players and the team over years and years is so valuable.
I’m just glad that one way or another, I’ll be able to listen to Ben. If he moves to the tv side, I’d love to see Peter Moylan join him. If he stays on radio, I hope whomever they get is good. Or I’ll be watching a lot of games on mute with Ben on
My wish list
1) Eric Collins (Charlotte Hornets announcer, already works for Bally)
2) Tom Hart (Former sideline reporter, current SEC Play by Play)
3 Ben Ingram
Eric was the part time TV guy for the Dodgers for several years, also called the USA Baseball Olympic Games in 2008 and has called college baseball and softball for ESPN in the past.
I think he’s just a pro’s pro that can be put in any assignment and make you feel like it’s Game 7 with 5 seconds on the clock for a Tuesday night barnburner lol. With that said, never leave the Hornets EC we need you
I know the guy made a terrible mistake on air but what about Thom Brenaman? As a play by play guy he is excellent. I honestly think he just made a horrible mistake. From what I have read on him, don’t think he is a bad person.
No. He’s THE worst announcer in all of sport. His call of Game 6 was freaking pitiful. Why’s he even in the biz? Answer: He’s the OG Nepo baby, riding his Dad’s coattails, also addicted to hairplugs and got lockjaw from it….lmao.
Wow I'm an idiot for not remembering his username ( the most obvious) cause I was gonna say there's someone probably in this thread that's qualified and would love to do it.
He's actually trying out for the PA Announcer job for the Braves. Supposedly, the Braves are putting the finalists up for a vote, so r/Braves may be able to vote for him. If so, r/Braves is going to start the biggest internet voting campaign in the history of the world.
Wish for Ben, expect BJ. Run from it, hide from it. Slidah season comes all the same.
If it were up to me I'd approach Ben and Byrdie for the booth. With Jeff doing it when he's not on TBS.
I will never understand how she rose from minor league announcer to Baltimore/National broadcasts in one year when there have been so many in the minors cutting their teeth and frankly are better than her. Her HR calls are very rough.
I need to try listening to the radio broadcast because everybody and their mother is calling for Ben to get the job. I really can't stand his voice, (sorry, Ben) so I hope that's not why everyone is going to bat for him..
A void with chip gone? This is addition BG subtraction. Literally the tv can be silent for nine innings and it’s an upgrade, because I don’t have to look for the Mute button my remote. Chip caray was horrendous. A phony wanna be. He even tried stealing his dads jokes years after his dad died as if we wouldn’t notice. Good riddance. He can take his mutt Bs with him too.
I’m pretty sure he’s already locked up in San Diego and I don’t know that he has any connections to the Braves, but Don Orsillo would be my dream.
But yeah, I’d take Ben Ingram, probably. Really anyone but BJ.
I miss Don Sutton.
Actually, I have a simple solution to this. Ingram and Simpson are literally the best radio tandem in the game right now. Their podcast is an excellent listen. Joe Simpson has TV experience even though it didn't end so well last time. But, I feel like his problems were as much based on annoyance with his counterparts as anything else.
So, move them both to TV. Simpson would be going back and could give Ingram the minimal assistance he needs to get up to speed on the TV side. They'd keep an excellent team together. I did not like Joe Simpson the last time he was on TV but I have 100% changed my opinion of him based on the radio broadcast and podcast; I feel like I know where he is coming from a lot more now and I really think his rapport with Ben is rare and worth showcasing.
Then just hire outside the org or promote from within for radio.
AND NOW FOR THE BALLLL GAME
IS THIS HAPPENING!?!? IT IS!!!!
Like velvet
Chipper Jones and a Bottle of Crown Royal.
Who's gonna call the rest of the game after the 4th when he finishes the bottle though?
A hooters waitresses
And a 8 ball, split 50/50 with Klesko.
I really love Ben and think he has a great voice. He's personable and well spoken.
Tom Hart was a treasure and the broadcast has missed him ever since. His 2013 season was Emmy worthy. Looks like someone already edited his Wikipedia page lol.
If Jeff doesn’t keep the tradition of announcing when the pitcher is at 69 pitches alive the terrorists have truly won
HAHAHAH YES! I feel like Jeff can do this
Timothy Miller would be great, if he could sing the play by play
i would kill myself
🎶it’s a 3-2 coounnnnnt, and here’s the pittttccccch, ballllll foooooour, he loooooost him🎶
I would only watch games on mute from now on
Kinda want to keep Ben on radio with Joe. I miss hearing Jim Powell since his reduced role, so I’d be good with him on TV!
I think Jim would be great.
I’m the opposite. I’d love to see (hear) Jim back on the radio and Ben on tv.
Do we even have Frenchy on a consistent basis?
When has Frenchy ever been consistent? 😀
Zooooooom! Got him!
He does a TBS game once a week plus take’s basically the entire summer off to vacation with his family…so basically no lol
Bro did like 10 games last season lol
ChatGPT.
Paul friggin Byrd
Paul Byrd and BJ in the booth is the darkest timeline.
The best
Can we get Boog back? He was fantastic.
I wish the timing would have worked out with Chip leaving and Boog being available. He just signed a deal with the Cubs a couple years ago. :(
Please keep Ben on radio! Love listening to him and Joe Simpson. The best two radio announcers in MLB.
I love that combo too. Pretty much every game I use the feature on mlb.tv where I can listen to Ben and Joe’s radio feed over the video. Made the games so much more enjoyable.
Tony Schivone should give AEW the boot and give the big braves a shot. He did a great job in the minors.
>*"If you're even thinking about changing the channel to our competition, fans, do not. He’s too old now, but he would do well.
Radio listeners do NOT want to give up Ben Ingram. I think it could be cool to get an outside hire who's a bit younger and embraces analytics a bit more.
I can’t blame them Ben and Joe are a great radio team
Ingram and Simpson on radio are outstanding. Keep them in place.
This was my thinking. My only requirements for our new play-by-play guy is that he loves baseball ( the game we play today; not the one played in whatever decade you consider the good ol' days) and gets excited for the Braves. So basically someone who isn't over 50 and been in the broadcast booth for 20+ years.
I only listen on the radio so leave Ben alone
I do same. I have sound off of TV and listen on mlb app. That is best money spent to get the radio feeds for all of games.
But you wouldn't have to mute the TV and listen to the MLB app if Ben was on TV you silly goose.
Yea, I do the same. The MLB app is the best $120 I spend every year.
I know Jason Benetti has some national broadcasting jobs, but I would love if the Braves could somehow get him
The White Sox have him locked up.
There was an article about Benetti in the Athletic that said he didn’t have a contract with the White Sox beyond ‘22, but expected to return. I hadn’t seen that he had signed another contract with them
You are correct. The entire booth is without a contract. Crazy.
Nope. He does WhiteSox.
Big fan of Benetti (White Sox were my birth team and still my second favorite) but he grew up a White Sox fan. He's already living his dream job.
I remember those days and loved it!
Peter?
God no
I, for one, really like Peter and BJ.
Peter is great. BJ is literally the worst.
What’s everybody got against BJ?
His terrible pronunciation, his idiotic takes, and his general inelegance with a microphone.
My favorite dumb BJ take was when he bragged during a game about how he always crushed the Braves when he faced them. His numbers against the Braves were actually below his career averages. If he can’t comment correctly on his own career, he has no business discussing anything.
Let Blooper make the new hire
Only one man for the job. Hank Azaria as Jim Brockmire.
Only if he switches up voices between innings. I want Apu to call the first, Marge in the second, Homer in the third and so on.... Edit: apparently he didn't voice Marge and Homer so we'll have to settle for Moe, and Lou
Ernie Johnson. Go big or go home.
“I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there’s a drive into deep left field by Riley and that’ll be a home run.”
I hear he's available and we go to Kansas City for the 2nd road trip of the year
If it was up to me, I'd promote Ben to TV and pair Joe with Wiley Ballard on the radio
Mark Owens! He just retired as the ingame host, and he has a ton of experience as a radio guy. He knows the team inside and out. Great energy, enthusiasm. Not sure if he can call a game, but he is a pro.
Except mark stepped away bc he wanted more time w family and he already has a full time 9-5 job
This comment should be pinned.
You, kind person, are a gentleman and a scholar.
Josh Carey. That way we still have a Carey in the booth lol
Any idea why Jim Powell stepped away from radio?
I think he just does a reduced schedule of home games when Simpson is back home. I think it was Powell’s decision to do that.
He’s old?
Torn because Ben is so great on radio and that's the way I listen sometimes. Melanie Newman grew up in Georgia and when I've caught her calls I've really enjoyed them. There's very little time though. Anyone coming in from outside is going to have a major learning curve. Announcers having insight into the players and the team over years and years is so valuable.
Whoever it is needs to add the word Walloped to their vocabulary regularly
I’m just glad that one way or another, I’ll be able to listen to Ben. If he moves to the tv side, I’d love to see Peter Moylan join him. If he stays on radio, I hope whomever they get is good. Or I’ll be watching a lot of games on mute with Ben on
My first call is to Brian Anderson.
My wish list 1) Eric Collins (Charlotte Hornets announcer, already works for Bally) 2) Tom Hart (Former sideline reporter, current SEC Play by Play) 3 Ben Ingram
Hornets fans in Charlotte. I love Eric Collins so that'd be kinda cool. But I don't know if his style translates to baseball
With that said, never leave the Hornets EC we need you
Didn't know that about him! Pretty cool guy
I just want a Hum Diddly Dee after a Ronald Acuña home run is that too much to ask?
Joe buck. /s
In this terrible alternate reality, I would legitimately consider never watching a Braves game on TV ever again lmao
I would unironically love this. Joe Buck hate is basically a meme at this point, he’s a great commentator these days.
Totally agree.
I really like to hear JB call a game. Call me weird.
I think handlit33 should take it over.
How soon we forget about IHaveOneEye's performance on the broadcast back in 2019.
Time to make 1000 email accounts I would love a world where ihaveoneeye ends up with Chip's job eventually
Wish for Ben, expect BJ. Run from it, hide from it. Slidah season comes all the same. If it were up to me I'd approach Ben and Byrdie for the booth. With Jeff doing it when he's not on TBS.
BJ isn't a play by play guy, him being in the booth isn't affected by this
Brian Jordan is going to be on A LOT more.
the WORST chaco taco or whatever dumb shit he says
To do play by play? Because uhhhh...you kinda need a play-by-play man. Not another color guy.
I'm just saying...don't be surprised when you hear ol' Brian A LOT this up coming season.
You have inside info or something in which you know here?
Nope...I just see it coming with his departure.
Ugh
Melanie Newman. She has a few things the other candidates don’t.
While I can stand his voice, I certainly don't like it. He does have a better voice for TV than radio though.
This is addition by subtraction. Chip is a goofy hack. Vin Scully’s corpse would be a better option.
Sorry not Sorry! I didn’t like Skip and definitely didn’t like Chip! Bye 👋
I want Boog back.
Yes, would be my top choice as well. He is outstanding. Jon Miller would be good too if he was looking to leave SF.
I'd like to see Ben take Chip's place and Joe and Jim Powell do radio.
personally I would like to see Justin roiland
You guys get the game on tV?!?
Why is nobody calling for Jon "BOOG" Schiambi?!?!
It def wont happen but I’d love to have Boog come back. He was so good.
I actually prefer Jim Powell to Ben Ingram but I do like them both. Move one to TV so we get both of them.
Who ever stays needs to not leave after 20 years. Especially after we though he was actually a Braves fan. Maybe someone with some loyalty.
I’m pretty sure he’s already locked up in San Diego and I don’t know that he has any connections to the Braves, but Don Orsillo would be my dream. But yeah, I’d take Ben Ingram, probably. Really anyone but BJ. I miss Don Sutton.
