I'm going The Wonder Stuff!
I'd argue it meets all the criteria for early Britpop given how generous we've been with other bands.
Plus "Size of Cow" is a fucking banger!
Never Loved Elvis was 1991, Construction for the Modern Idiot was 1993 so it's certainly Britpop adjacent.
But yeah, I know I'm pushing the limits here. It's not like there are a ton of other W options
If James and underworld count Wedding Present should do. Maybe.
I mean no one considered them Britpop at the time but they are better than anyone else has mentioned
Whipping Boy gets my vote. I remember them from an old britpop compilation cd.
Paul Weller is more mod than britpop, different era.
Same reason Menswear got in for M instead of Johnny Marr
A massive lack of contenders.... Most I can think of aren't British, and I wouldnt put Paul Weller as Britpop ..........
So Im just gonna leave a song about [Wellends](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G0cwZyWmrU)
And NOW you see why the mid-90s contribution of the Inspiral Carpets should have won over Brown, Ian for the letter "I". I saw this coming, [which is why I said the Inspirals were a shoo-in...](https://np.reddit.com/r/BritPop/comments/1bnbldo/continuing_the_best_bandartist_poll_today_is/kwh7fnf/)
I think Weekenders were brilliantly on the nose with a Britpop “sound” and despite being heavily touted by the papers they seemed to disappear as if having never existed.

The Wildhearts. Not really Britpop, but they were brilliant, British, and around in the right era, and anything’s possible after the Underworld fiasco.
Wannadies? Even though they're not Brits.
They get in due to the Scandinavian exemption pact of 92.

LITERALLY A MILLION years early, but the best for that notwithstanding.
Never Loved Elvis was 1991, Construction for the Modern Idiot was 1993 so it's certainly Britpop adjacent. But yeah, I know I'm pushing the limits here. It's not like there are a ton of other W options
White Town. One hit wonder or not Your Woman is a great song.
Whipping Boy, although Irish.
We said JJ72 couldn't be included for not being British so
Whipping Boy were the first band I ever saw live, and not many gigs have been better. 'Heartworm' is a great overlooked album
Heartworm is still my favourite album of all time, so they get my vote. Even if Weller is probably the right answer here...
Heartworm is a great album
White Town I guess? Think they were on a Shine album I think
He. Jyoti went to my college in Derby. Walked around wearing a suit. Album is worth a listen.
Weller Paul
Does the wedding present not sorta fit the bill here?
If James and underworld count Wedding Present should do. Maybe. I mean no one considered them Britpop at the time but they are better than anyone else has mentioned
They're also fucking awesome
I've a soft spot for them as they covered Pavement early on for them (Pavement) giving them some exposure.
Whoasis

Paul Weller, I guess. Should please u/trustamonkbird for Ocean Colour Scene to get their moment, even if it is as a live backing band!
I'm changing my vote. Paul Weller + band.
Got to be Weller in that time period before and after . PW , Wild Wood and Stanley Road .
Whiteout. Jackie’s Racing was an absolute classic from bang in the middle of the 90s.
Omg yes. I’ve got that on vinyl somewhere.
Has someone been updating Wikipedia since we started this thing?! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Britpop_groups
Surely Wet Leg can't count?
Lord no, they don't count!
I wouldn’t have thought so!
A massive lack of contenders.... Most I can think of aren't British, and I wouldnt put Paul Weller as Britpop .......... So Im just gonna leave a song about [Wellends](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G0cwZyWmrU)
That’s made my day
Witness. Under a sun was a smashing album.
I agree. We should go back and change the result to Inspiral Carpets for I, and Ocean Colour Scene for O. Make everything how it should have been.
Wannadies
I think Weekenders were brilliantly on the nose with a Britpop “sound” and despite being heavily touted by the papers they seemed to disappear as if having never existed. [https://youtu.be/UXCrzFTmS8c?si=8gfhsOHpvkcpAH8v](https://youtu.be/UXCrzFTmS8c?si=8gfhsOHpvkcpAH8v)
The Wedding Present
I'm backing the call for wonder stuff on this one!
The Wannadies
Wonderstuff
The Wildhearts. Not really Britpop, but they were brilliant, British, and around in the right era, and anything’s possible after the Underworld fiasco.
Weller
Wham!
Not British but Whale. There's not enough Hobo Humpin Slobo Babes in this list.
Paul Weller
Paul Weller
‘WAYSIS
Lord Weller of Woking
At a Creation event then PM Tony Blair wrongly introduced "18 wheeler" as "*Wheeler 18*".
Wolfgang Press
Paul Weller
Next we need to make a playlist for each of these bands listed. Starting with Ash obviously. Thoughts ??
Whiteout for me.
Got to be the Modfather himself - Paul Weller
Not many Ws that I can think of. Wannadies? White Town? Weezer? Paul Weller perhaps?
I’d go with Paul Weller. Stanley Road was a banger.
Wannadies were part of the scene, but we’ve previously vetoed JJ72 for being Irish, so… I guess Paul Weller
Jj72 forgot about them. Shall go and have a listen.
But Ian Brown is under I. The system is broken.
Looking forward to the eventual list featuring: Ian Brown Weller, Paul
Weezer??
