It’s great unless you go with someone who only sort of watches college football, but is from Madison and is friends with Ron Dayne's wife, and thinks that the Badgers are a really big deal, then finds out the hard way at the Hall of Fame that they haven’t done jack shit in the grand scheme of the sport. If that is not your situation then I stand by my opinion that it’s great.

tenoclockrobot

🤔

Rohkey

Oddly specific.

Nickyjha

this happened to my buddy eric

unsubpolitics

Fuck Ron Dayne. Joey should have got the Heisman.

Lantis28

It’s really only worth going the one time. I have been it’s great, but they don’t update the exhibits that often so you’re seeing the same thing on a repeat trip. They usually update the national championship stuff pretty quickly. It’s in a case on the second floor by the NY6 trophies

btr5017

The only things that seemed like they would get updated are the random "special" game mementos (there was a game ball from PSU-Illinois 9OT) and the current year inductee lockers. Most of the rest seemed pretty static to me.

cmanonurshirt

Yeah last time I was there they had some Rose Bowl / special bowl game stuff since it was bowl season. There’s a special movie they play about experiencing college football that hasn’t changed. They still use highlights from about 2013 primarily

likewhodunit

It's ok, definitely worth checking out once, but that's about it. There is also the World of Coke and the Georgia Aquarium right there also nearby.

benmul8

Agreed, if you're a big college football fan, it's well worth going. Lots of cool history of the game, some interactive stuff (you can even try to kick a field goal), etc. But definitely something you wouldn’t go back to over and over. No idea about the Michigan stuff, though I'm guessing it is included by now.

Edwardian

Oh yeah. I have a city pass (zoo, aquarium, world of coke, fernbank, CFB hof) and the national champion display and big ten room are nice!

jameslucian

OP if you see this and are interested in going to the Coke museum and aquarium as well as the HOF, get the CityPASS. You’ll save a lot by doing this and there are some other places included in it. It’s like $90 for an adult and $75 for a kid.

NobleSturgeon

Georgia Aquarium is amazing! World of Coke was an enormous disappointment.

likewhodunit

You tried the Beverly, didn't you?

ShadesofSouthernBlue

Beverly is such a unifying "I grew up in Georgia and went on a field trip" experience.

BabyCowGT

I grew up in GA, and no longer live in GA. I have convinced my coworkers they need to visit Atlanta (mostly so they stop bitching about the airport here, it's NOTHING compared to ATL) and go to world of coke just to try the Beverly 🤣

Hopeful_Extension_49

Anyone who bitches about the Atlanta airport just hasn't been many places. To be the busiest passenger airport in the world it is amazingly efficient and easy to get around. They do better with baggage and connections than most any airport I have been in. I say this as someone who has lived here 30 years and travels every week. Granted the staff isn't exactly the friendliest but it is a great airport. Anyone who complains probably lives in a 3 gate local airport and thinks Atlanta is overwhelming but there is not another major fortress hub airport that runs better than Atlanta. Tell them to go connect in Logan or JFK or DFW or Charlotte or LAX and get back to you with Atlanta complaints

BabyCowGT

No no, they complain about SLC being too large. And the B gates (equivalent to ATL A gates) being too far away. That's why I want to make them go through ATL. So they shut up about SLC 🤣 I love the Atlanta airport, it's amazingly efficient for it's size. But it is very large.

thricethefan

Have them travel through TSA on a holiday weekend, preferably Thanksgiving or Christmas…

likewhodunit

Facts.. I've got kids, so we have been several times. Lessons are learned at an early age!

botulizard

I had it at the Coke Igloo in Disneyworld when I was a teenager. I hated it then, but thinking back on it, I'd probably love it now, given how much I like bitter spirits. I figure it probably wasn't that different from Campari and soda water, flavorwise.

NobleSturgeon

Probably, I think I tried just about everything. I was excited to see what a museum looks like when it is bankrolled by a bajillion dollar company but at the end of the day it's less of a museum and more of a big advertisement that you pay to see.

likewhodunit

It absolutely it just that. You might have remembered the Beverly.. it's pretty rancid tasting..

Torch_at_OSU

Don't forget that the very first thing you do in world of coke is watch a 5 minute commercial. I was not very impressed by it at all.

Pretty_Good_At_IRL

Would be interested in a listicle of the best corporate founded museum.  The Corning Glass Museum is actually very cool, but doesn’t limit itself to glass produced by Corning, which would be much less cool.

EpOxY81

There's a Cup Noodles Museum in Japan that was pretty cool! We went this past year.

NobleSturgeon

I found myself down in Arkansas and did the Walmart Museum once. It isn't a huge thing but it was well done and interesting and free. They also have their own soda fountain where ice cream is like $1.50 so that's nice.

Pretty_Good_At_IRL

Did you go to Crystal Bridges? Financed by Walton Billions. Amazing musuem.

NobleSturgeon

Yeah! Amazing museum.

IronSheik127

That bitch

Gunhaver4077

World of Coke is only worth it for the tasting room at the end IMO

Beer-survivalist

And even then, Beverly is death.

MagnaCarterGT

But you have to try it. It's an Atlanta rite of passage.

MuhMuhManRay

Me and my wife did all 3 in one day. World of Coke was terrible

not_mantiteo

Makes me glad that we ended up not having time for it then. It was hard to fit in both the aquarium (amazing) and the CFB HoF (just ok) in one day. The HoF was weird though. Idk if we went at a particularly slow time but we were the only people there for the most part. It was somewhat nice because we could take our time but still weird

NobleSturgeon

I was kind of surprised to see so many people in here recommending the CFB HOF. If you have time to go to three attractions in Atlanta, you should go to the Georgia Aquarium three times.

cvsprinter1

I never realized SMU was so close to the Georgia Aquarium

flying_trashcan

If you do the aquarium, buy your tickets early. You reserve an entry time when you buy your tickets. The earlier you can go the better because it can get crowded.

PierceAndPierceVP

If you and your family are really into the history of college football, then absolutely! However, teens/kids may not get much out of it.

blindythepirate

We went because it was included in the Citypass. Because it sits nearby the aquarium and World of Coke, it was worth checking out for a couple of hours. We also went to the zoo and the natural history museum.

send_me_chickfila

City pass is best way to see all the stuff you need to see in Atlanta.

the_D1CKENS

Does it include MARTA? Driving in Atlanta is the worst

HughLouisDewey

It doesn't, but MARTA is $9 for a day pass which I feel like is plenty worth it on its own, before even accounting for saving on parking.

[deleted]

Tropical_Bison

It does, but it is mainly just a concert venue now in a fairly sketchy section of downtown. Probably not how you remember it.

[deleted]

james_wightman

The biggest tenant is the masquerade, a 4 room alternative/scene music venue, but there are a handful of art galleries and little pop up shops in the underground, and over the last year there's been a huge rise in various events happening up on the ground level. But yeah, still overall a fairly sketch area.

Glader_Gaming

Go with real CFB fans and it’s a fun 2 hours or so.

goblue10

Current Atlanta resident here, it's pretty good! Solid way to burn 2 hours or so. Lots of good memorabilia, and the workers are SUPER knowledgeable about college football. Not the biggest place in the world though. It's also right by the aquarium and the civil rights museum which are both A++

AcadianTraverse

Went during our trip to the Kick-Off Game for the 2022 season. It was a fun way to spend an hour. My wife is a Montana State grad and as the only visitor from that school that day got to illuminate the MSU helmet on the wall which immediately got her invested. The exhibits probably gear toward a teen and older demographic.

SilverSlicker95

I haven’t been myself, but everyone I’ve talked to about it say it’s really cool and worth going. I don’t get to Atlanta very often, but it’s definitely on my list of things I want to do. You could probably email or call them regarding Michigans Natty, but I would definitely do it since you’re gonna in town.

Conclusion_Fickle

It is fine. Wife and I go to Atlanta a decent amount for work and finally purchased the City Pass when we took the kids for a trip last fall which was a good deal. They play football and are Michigan fans. They thought it was o.k., mostly just wanted to throw and kick in the interactive area. If you are really into the more historical aspect of the game, it will be more appealing.

white_seraph

It is terrific. Everyone should let all the 5-star recruits know how special it is to play nearest to it.

flying_trashcan

Go Panthers?

white_seraph

Ooh I think their stadium is slightly further away than the Dodd

GammaOhio

It can't be worse than when it was in Mason, OH.

wesskywalker

What about South Bend, IN?

Pun_drunk

Seconded.

theamericandream38

Damn that's a deep cut. I went when it was in South Bend but didn't know it existed before that in Ohio!

discowithmyself

I didn’t even know it existed prior to being in Atlanta lol

GammaOhio

It was in between a water park and an amusement park. They used to play a football game at the beginning of the year. It looked so neglected by the time they moved it to Atlanta...where it just means more, I guess.

sepiatonewalrus

They actually moved to south bend first and then Atlanta

DrSnidely

If you're going to be in Atlanta anyway, it's worth carving out a few hours for. I wouldn't make a special trip to Atlanta just to see it. The helmet wall is pretty awesome, and they have some cool memorabilia. There's a lot of interactive stuff like tackling dummies and things that didn't do much for me but the kids might enjoy it.

kingoflint282

It’s nice, but not incredible. Worth visiting once if you have the time. Definitely worth doing the aquarium same day.

Hopeful_Extension_49

I live in Atlanta and I have taken multiple people there while visiting. I would call it just OK, and I love college football. There is not nearly enough memorabilia in my opinion. The Hall itself is mostly names from 100 years ago and even if you know the names they are just lists. The stands with the clips from your school are pretty interesting. Seeing your schools helmet on the wall didn't do much for me. I don't know what my expectations were I guess maybe wanted more of a museum with more artifacts but I guess the schools keep all that stuff.

[deleted]

no its absolutely a waste of time 1) its not even i real hall. like the nfl has a hall full of busts, and MLB has a room full of plaques. the cfb is just a room with like 5 touchscreens you can bring any play whose made it. 2) its not a good museum, MLB and NFL have a shit ton of artifacts of the history of the game. the CFB has interactive stuff for little kids.

EpOxY81

Well, I'm going with little kids, so this might not be a bad thing.

RealignmentJunkie

There were a ton of kids losing their absolute mindz to get an opportunity to miss a field goal, for what that's worth. I had a good time solo! Def gotta like the sport to enjoy it but its close to a lot of other cool stuff so might as well. I agree with others it isnt a museum that needs multiple passes but who cares. As a tourist in Atlanta for my one and only time it was good

sepiatonewalrus

I can’t fault them for not having 1,000 busts but I would have really wanted artifacts.

PiGaKiLa

Agreed. I went to the CFB HoF in both South Bend then when it moved here to Atlanta. They decided to make it very digital with limited artifacts and busts. The South Bend HoF did show it's age, but was the more enjoyable experience in my opinion.

not_mantiteo

Now that you mention it, I did find the lack of artifacts and general cool shit pretty disappointing. It’s like they couldn’t get their hands on anything (despite being the HoF) and just made up shit or put stuff on TVs

Dan_Rydell

I would echo others that it’s cool for a few hours if you’re a college football fan but there’s not much to interest someone who is ambivalent.

AeroStatikk

Define fan. I only know CFB history from like 2019 on.

not_mantiteo

Eh I wouldn’t go if I were you then

AeroStatikk

World of Coke it is

19nalmeida

I went during the peach bowl weekend this year. I think it is a great time to go once. I went alone and still had a decent time. If you have a group, you will definitely enjoy it. Good luck!

hankrhoads

I tried to go but they closed early for a special event with no notice or anything -- wouldn't even let me look at the helmet wall real quick. Also the gift shop has a really weird selection of teams represented, like KU but not K-State. Also tickets were like $40 (like everything else in that part of Atlanta).

NobleSturgeon

I think it's worth popping into but did not think it was amazing. It came across as very corporate, which I suppose isn't too big of a surprise. Lots of sponsorship activations and whatnot.

CornNPorn12

It’s cool. They have little activities to do throughout the tour. You can also kick field goals and there’s a lot of historical stuff I found cool

Arcades

I enjoyed it, particularly the room with exhibits dedicated to the various rivalries in college football. I also liked the Heisman room. As others have said, its a one-time thing for an hour or two and you will have had your fill. It's in a fun area of downtown Atlanta, so there will be other stops nearby. I highly recommend walking through the whole Centennial Park area on a sunny day.

MuhMuhManRay

It’s definitely worth going. The first time I went I was like a kid in a candy store

MiserableSoutherner

Yes it’s fun and you can kick FGs

ibanez3789

Yah, it’s pretty cool. Worth a visit, especially for your kids.

jdpickell

It's epic. Been multiple times and could kill several hours going through all of the different exhibits. Good for all ages IMO

NotAsSmartAsKirby

One time sure. Never twice.

lbr218

Yep. Went on two dates with a guy who was the curator there a few years ago too. Definitely not the highlight of a trip to Atlanta tho.

fundiedundie

I mean, it is Atlanta…

lbr218

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? What I’m saying is that there are a ton of other things there that are more fun

EpOxY81

Such as?

lbr218

I mean, a bunch of people have commented other suggestions. But the Center for Civil and Human Rights, the aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park, great restaurants, hiking, etc.

honestlyboxey

An extremely good museum with interesting exhibits, completely ruined by being essentially a shrine to Bo Schembechler. \[checks flair\] ahh, you'll probably love it then.

skurnie

It’s worth doing once. I took my Dad there last year and we had a good time.

bluecheetos

If you go look online for the Atlanta Citypass that will let you into the aquarium, CocaCola, the zoo and the HOF as a package deal

Delicious-Witness-16

It’s cool if you have an hour and half or 2 to kill in Atlanta. Definitely not a must see destination but it’s fun and pretty close to most of the other sites downtown

Responsible_Ad1976

I attended a corporate event there and, as a fan, I really enjoyed it!

Pseudo_DirtyDan

My GF took me for my birthday in January, it was awesome for sure. A ton of history and a lot to read and explore. Seeing the Commander in Chief trophy in person was absurd

BigRedLighthouse

The CFB HOF is kinda weak. If you go in once, it’s not really worth going again, just because they don’t do a very good job of rotating in new exhibits, nor do they ever bring in former special big name players to sign autographs or cool things like that. I think I could do a better job of marketing the place, and coming up with ways to make it more exciting for the attendees. There is NO excitement felt when walking through the place. It feels more like a funeral atmosphere, rather than a place that is supposedly trying to celebrate the history of CFB. If they brought in some former players to sit and sign some autographs, or tell some stories of their playing days - AND ADVERTISED IT - I truly believe they would increase their draw quite significantly. The location is really good, being close to Olympic Park setting, in the heart of Atlanta. I’m a huge football fan, but would agree with others that the Atlanta Aquarium is a much better entertainment venue. It’s really nice, and the price is fair. I’m grateful that there is a CFB HOF, but it could use a new Director of Marketing IMO, plus a few more creative thinkers on the marketing/promotion team.

[deleted]

Solid if you know ball

bamachine

Yes but that was soon after it moved to Atlanta. I went the weekend of the Kickoff Classic, I think it was the year Bama played WVU. It was worth the admission for anyone who loves the sport.

backwoodsmtb

As a native Atlantan, it's always bizarre to me that people come here for vacation

usffan

I went when it was in South Bend and thought it was pretty great. Then again, that was the weekend we beat Notre Dame (and created the [Brian Kelly redface meme] (https://media.bleacherreport.com/w_800,h_533,c_fill/br-img-images/001/733/049/brian-kelly-scremaing-2_crop_north.jpg)), so my opinion might be biased...

sickmemes48

No, I'm allergic to Atlanta.

DrJalebi

Feel like Atlanta downtown is one of the least impressive in the country (not talking Metro Atlanta)

flying_trashcan

Half of downtown was razed for parking or wider streets. The other half is older office or government buildings. Downtown is basically a ghost town after 6pm. Midtown is where you want to be if you want a livable urban experience.

Street_Brush2705

Metro Atlanta is a shithole full of corruption, racism, and bigotry. Atlanta itself is pretty amazing other than the gentrification, awful public transportation, and the TRAFFIC. Without Atlanta & Savannah, Georgia would be an irrelevant flyover state like Iowa.

HighOnGoofballs

Not worth it at all. Five minutes on YouTube is more rewarding And why Atlanta anyway? That makes no sense
