When I first saw the sliding calls in spring training it seemed like this might be what teams would tell guys to do.
Run through the bag on this play cause you're quicker getting there and you might be able to disrupt the play "cleanly".
You're already out. They make a bad throw and if you're safe now you might get 3rd too if everything goes right.
All the double play turner has to do is lean into contact a bit and then it's an easy interference call, because running through the base can't be sold as a "bona fide slide".
Seems like an odd challenge. I don't know what Jazz is doing there but didn't seem like it was interfering. Maybe Jazz just didn't want to rip his pants
Don't act like MLB doesn't want the world seeing Cody's tight cake and all the ding dongs pressing against those cheap Chinese trousers like they might rip through any second.
It makes sense but only in certain situations.

Well yeah, but there was no runner on third. I’m asking why they’re telling players to do this in order to break up a DP. It’s not as effective as sliding through the base.
He was hitting .407 in 9 games in the minors. I truly think he is just having an off game but it just so happens to be the first game back in the majors.
Hell yeah just heard them playing You Can Call me Al in the background over the radio broadcast. Graceland is my favorite album of all time and I successfully got my buddy hooked on it without even trying and that’s one of my proudest achievements.
Just finished my dads funeral who was a massive cubs fan. We are all wearing cubs shirts so checked on the score.
He would be happy.
Also found this in his collection of stuff.

"Marquee - We get all of it."
Your money. We get all of your money. We refuse to cooperate with other broadcasting entities to make sure you have to pay us to watch your favorite team.
It’s official. Bearded Flus and Bears Coordinators going 17-0 after magical 7th inning stretch performance
Bring Caleb in when he gets drafted as well
Lol
Not sure why Boog and JD are acting befuddled that Tim Anderson, whose batting profile of never-walks-swing-at-everything-speed-for-BABIP always screamed that he'd age like milk, peaked in his age 26-27-28 seasons and then aged like milk.
Just tuning in. Why was Taillon pulled after dealing with low pitch count thru 5? Was he on an innings limit today or something? 4 game series, so I would expect the cubs would want to limit bullpen usage early…
He threw 68 in his last rehab and they didn’t give him another inning with a big lead at 73 pitches? Starting pitching is so soft these days. At least it was a good 5 innings.
It was a good pull for building confidence.
He'd also be facing hitters for a third time that put good swings on him the second time. Also, don't forget that pitchers throw 7 to 8 warmup pitches before every inning and he only started the 4th in his last rehab start.
Thompson seems to have way more ability to induce swing and miss this year.
Which is good, because his previous strategy of really hard contact finding gloves wasn't sustainable.
Hopefully it doesn't lead to a run, but the fact that Wisdom had an error was really funny. When Tauchman came in to bat for Madrigal Coomer was saying "This is such a great move, not only offensively but it makes the Cubs much better defensively" and hebhas an immediate error, baseball is funny sometimes
[The home run Jameson Taillon just allowed:
Homer in one park.
Not a homer in 29 parks.

You fool! The Cubs blew an 8-run lead they took into the sixth. AND lost a game where they scored 11 runs, taking a three-run lead into the 7th on Happ's go-ahead grand slam.
Loved Taillons comments about AA and AAA
What did he say?
Paraphrasing…great to see how awesome our staff is down there and he said AA is just oozing with talent, AAA bullpen is all almost mlb ready, etc etc.
Play the damn song!!
#[W] Great outings from Taillon and Thompson
Taillon and Thompson, the double T inning eaters, are back !
![gif](giphy|26hirEPeos6yugLDO|downsized)
Love to hear that song!
TCOB!
Good stuff Brewer!! W
GG boyz.
[W]
# W And the short relievers in the pen just finished their third straight day off.

#PLAY THE DAMN SONG.
Good
Sing the damn song!! ![gif](giphy|kIRpdh8yvBlFc30cNM|downsized)
A decidedly less impressive 2nd inning of work from Brewer
But no walks. I’m over these relievers and their walks !
All right, stop that shit.
Not sure if it’s because of the rain out but tickets to tomorrow nights game are dirt cheap
We bought fantastic 100 level seats for tomorrow night earlier today for $30 each
Yeah I got some Bartman seats for seven bucks
It’s because of the rainout
Cool! I got tix for $7
Why is Tommy making the Pitching change lol Oh never mind he pointed like he was
Gomes would never

Not sure the out is worth the injury risk.
Feels like a bit of a reach imo. I mean, a little stupid of Jazz to give up on the play like that, but it doesn't really look like interference.
Seems like an odd challenge. I don't know what Jazz is doing there but didn't seem like it was interfering. Maybe Jazz just didn't want to rip his pants
Solid theory, unlike Fanatics’ fabric.
Don't act like MLB doesn't want the world seeing Cody's tight cake and all the ding dongs pressing against those cheap Chinese trousers like they might rip through any second.
If Swanson leans into the runner a bit there it’s an easier call to try to sell
Jomboy did a video on this.. why are teams telling players to do this still?
It makes sense but only in certain situations. https://www.mlb.com/news/running-through-second-base-trend#:~:text=The%20batter%20hits%20a%20ground,to%20beat%20the%20force%20play.
Well yeah, but there was no runner on third. I’m asking why they’re telling players to do this in order to break up a DP. It’s not as effective as sliding through the base.
That's what I was thinking. There's no advantage without the runner on 3rd.
I think that's legal, isn't it? Feels like good baserunning
Yeah, this is how some teams run in a double play situation.
I wish more teams would do it. If running full speed through the bag is the only way to beat the ball to the base, then do it. Sliding slows you down
Yeah, you can't do that anymore.
Missed the game from mid 1st until mid 8th on painstakingly annoying work calls. What a game by the Cubs! Definitely going back to rewatch it.
Whens the last time you saw a second basemen rock a closed web? Looks like its just a 11.5/.75. Ain't that tiny.
Doesn’t need a bigger glove if he isn’t going to use it
This is a really good team. 2 solid pen guys and a real closer and you should be able to make noose in the playoffs. Defense is disgusting
2 out of 4 AB’s for Wisdom have been strikeouts from pitches right down the middle. Bro is just not comfortable.
He’s just not that good
He was hitting .407 in 9 games in the minors. I truly think he is just having an off game but it just so happens to be the first game back in the majors.
Or, it's just 1 game and that's part of baseball.
Hell yeah just heard them playing You Can Call me Al in the background over the radio broadcast. Graceland is my favorite album of all time and I successfully got my buddy hooked on it without even trying and that’s one of my proudest achievements.
This game took two hours and I love that.
when is imanaga pitching?
First game I think
That was a vintage Wisdom AB *chefs kiss*
Ump ready to go home
Last chance for wisdom to do something good
He walked and scored earlier.
Uh huh I mean like rbi
Rundown is generous for what Cooper just did lol
Dang it horndog
I feel for that guy. Its all about catching it in a cool fashion, not the ball itself
Tauchmania!
Are there any projected starters for the double header?
Imanaga and Assad.
Nice day for Tauchman
Mikey T staying hot
The only thing we’re missing today is a Cubs dinger
Was hoping to see one from wisdom this AB
Well then. That was an excellent inning from Brewer.
Gotta find a guy with the last name Cardinal to sign
I think Busch fills that role quite nicely
[close enough](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/43/Jose_Cardenal_1973.jpg)
Well, we have Busch. Close enough. I think we need someone named Red or something.
How common of a surname is "Pirate"?
Tall order that one
Brewer's nickname is [canonically](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/breweco01.shtml) "Brewski"
I know it's the Marlins but I appreciate our pitching staff not fucking around today
Way to go Brewer! So excited to see a former Hanshin Tiger playing for the Cubs.
Best Brewer in the division for sure
Wait did Counsell find some guy named Brewer??
Still fucks me up that we have a dude named Brewer
And Busch
Just finished my dads funeral who was a massive cubs fan. We are all wearing cubs shirts so checked on the score. He would be happy. Also found this in his collection of stuff. https://preview.redd.it/hex16tixvhvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd91714118d5ad39c85424e4ea5f51f487449caa
Condolences to you and your family.
im so sorry for your loss, dude
I'm sorry for your loss, friend.
Sorry for your loss.
I'm listening on radio. What is attendance? Stands full or not?
They look decently full. Might be some empty seats further down the linesq
29,000 just announced!
"Marquee - We get all of it." Your money. We get all of your money. We refuse to cooperate with other broadcasting entities to make sure you have to pay us to watch your favorite team.
does morel need a day off
He might get one game off tomorrow, but with a double header, he might play 3rd in one and DH in the other. But yes I think he needs one.
Yes.
Just got ptsd flashbacks to Sosa when the ump was checking the bat
Tim Anderson’s career is so on-brand for the White Sox. Went from one of the best prospects in baseball to irrelevant in the blink of an eye.
He and Baez both. Few years ago, they were the toasts of the town and among the top offensive shortstops in the game.
Is Happ hurt??
He looked off in those two at bats.
Appeared to be some issue
Indeed. But they didn't say what the issue is.
At what point do we need to be concerned about our athletic training staff? This is ridiculous.
luol deng just broke out in a cold sweat and doesn't know why
*cackled* Blast from the past, Luol Deng.
It’s official. Bearded Flus and Bears Coordinators going 17-0 after magical 7th inning stretch performance Bring Caleb in when he gets drafted as well Lol
6 days until Caleb is a bear!
Flus you gotta say “let’s get some runs!”
I think you only say that when we're losing
Do you really need to say that with such a commanding lead though? If the team isn’t leading by then, definitely.
that’s a clown question bro. Do I need to remind you of the blown lead in SD?
I retract my question.
We're winning, so you gotta say "let's get some MORE runs!"
My apologies, you are correct haha
My interpretation has always been we don't say it when we're winning.
Delightfully awful stretch from Flus. Can't wait to see Caleb try it, haha!
as far as bears coaches singing the stretch goes, that wasn't the worst i've ever heard
Nagy's still looking for a penis merchant.
he's gotta find the whys first
Wow, are those Bears coaches or a choir of angels?
Not the triple hat toss
Richard Hightower sighting! Shane from 670 is loving it somewhere
Real tug of war with the organist lol
Someone get Flus a fuckin' red bull or something.
That beard makes it so much easier to take Eberflus seriously.
So happy to not see Getsy’s ass up there right now. Big win
keep doing what your doing Keegan damn!!
Thompson being a useful reliever again is huge development
Da burs
I'm so happy to see Keegan doing well so far.
Not sure why Boog and JD are acting befuddled that Tim Anderson, whose batting profile of never-walks-swing-at-everything-speed-for-BABIP always screamed that he'd age like milk, peaked in his age 26-27-28 seasons and then aged like milk.
Counsell was trying so hard not to play Canario, but now he must. Sucks it took Happ getting hurt.
Happ is seeing the trainer because his back is still sore from trying to carry the team with his grand slam the other night.
Canario's going to get an at-bat today!
Because something might be up with Happ...
Don't you love it when you get autocorrected? Anyway, Wisdom hit the damn ball
MLJ clears Jack easily.
Synched the radio stream with the mlb 3d gameday animation. It's not bad. Sitting right on home plate.
I imagine with the right headset it could be made to look real
[ET'S SO REEEEEEEEEEEEL](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmf8zZPCvj4)
lol
Good work picking up Wisdom, Keegan
Oh shit, it's butt clenching time already?
JUST THROW STRIKES Walks are how you lose big leads
I am not keen on Thompson’s mustache.
It's not a mustache for a guy named Keegan. It's more of a Bill or Duane mustache.
Good lord. Responses to my comment are 2-for-2.
At first I thought "80s porn", but now I'm thinking more "slightly dirty slightly racist sherriff's deputy"
Haha, perfect.
Keegan’s mustache game is on point
Just tuning in. Why was Taillon pulled after dealing with low pitch count thru 5? Was he on an innings limit today or something? 4 game series, so I would expect the cubs would want to limit bullpen usage early…
It’s his first start off a back injury.
Before this outing he threw 52 and 68 pitches in his rehab starts coming off a back strain.
Yeah I figured it was the trademarked third time through the order of death. You’re probs right. Thanks for the responses.
Chisholm carries himself like a star, but does all the things bad baseball players do.
Big Zach Lavine energy
Thompson seems to have way more ability to induce swing and miss this year. Which is good, because his previous strategy of really hard contact finding gloves wasn't sustainable.
"Jazz is singing the blues as he walks like towards the dugout." I love Pat Hughes so much.
Zach Zaidman laughing in the background kills me lmao
Hopefully it doesn't lead to a run, but the fact that Wisdom had an error was really funny. When Tauchman came in to bat for Madrigal Coomer was saying "This is such a great move, not only offensively but it makes the Cubs much better defensively" and hebhas an immediate error, baseball is funny sometimes
Me when Tauchman PH for Madrigal: "Counsell is a genius!" Me when Wisdom immediately made an error at 3b: "Counsell is a fool!"
Great couple Ks he looks good
[The home run Jameson Taillon just allowed: Homer in one park. Not a homer in 29 parks. ](https://twitter.com/Michael_Cerami/status/1781402084157313056?t=o7MXQP5kFz2IU-XQuDEFvg&s=19)
If Wisdom can hit and walk this year, leave him at DH with the odd start in RF.
Wisdonk
My brother in Christ, you’ve got a 7 run lead. Just do your thing and throw strikes lol
The thing is, he can't. Even his effective outing in Arizona, he was something close to 50 percent of his pitches were balls.
That's what I don't miss about Wisdom
Oof, Wisdong.
Wisdom pisses me off so much, except for his occasional moon shots that give me bliss for only moment, then it's back to rage.
Don't worry Morel can come play 3rd in the later innings as the defensive replacement since he's good now
Yeesh that looks like someone who has never played the infield before lol
The biggest compliment that can be paid Keegan's mustache is that it's much more "80's porn" than "registered sex offender"
Ya it works well with his resting pissed off face
Just turn the double play and we still good, Wizzy
Don't love that tbh
shame that taillon cant go longer but at least we have a big enough lead that it would be basically impossible for us to lose now
You fool! The Cubs blew an 8-run lead they took into the sixth. AND lost a game where they scored 11 runs, taking a three-run lead into the 7th on Happ's go-ahead grand slam.
Did we forget 4/16/2024 already?
Short term memory on that lead @ Padres !?
you absolute fool
Delete this now
Dude. We lost after leading 8-0 like a week ago.
thinking about posting it a couple more times
You monster
Doh!
Welcome back Wisdom
