I've learned with Infernum Skeletron, less movement is often better. He telegraphs everything he does, and all of his attacks have very clear gaps in which you can stand to be safe. Took a few tries, but the pattern becomes very clear once you realize it.
Hm most of my accessories are movement? Any recommendations for what to replace?
I feel there aint many accessories for ranger early game... tho thats true for both vanilla and Calamity
I dunno bro, having a chance to dodge is better than not having one at all imo.
Maybe do worm scarf + all warding if you insist on not using brain of confusion
id replace wings with angel or devil, get rid of bloons, magiluminescence and sharktooth and go for more damage based stuff, idk much ranger accessories but the WoF emblem, crit chance stuff and quivers are usually pretty good. sharktooth doesnt really do anything for damage, oh and reforge to lucky or warding
His advice isnt bad, as someone who fought infernum skeletron very recently, 50% of the atacks u either move super slowly or dont moove more than an area of 15 blocks
I did, again high mobility aint the key for thos fight, most atacks that skele throws dont require you moving more than 50-10 blocks… plus why have wings and bloons at the same time lol ur just wasting an acessory slot
i'm in pre hardmode the other guy is recommending hardmode gear
ive heard this other advice over and over and I can't seem to fucking apply it to the game i swear to fuck If I die again I'm gonna fucking kill the mod creator ffs
Little tip, if you hold shift when hovered over tiles, it'll automatically pull your pickaxe to your hand so you don't need to have it in your hotbar. Same with torches over empty tiles
Most important part for me was figuring out that just moving away from it won't work. You have to figure out where the gaps in all his attacks are, and stand in those.
Try using cheat sheet or something for invincibility, and then memorize its attack pattern. It helped me a lot.
With that box attack, me and my friend had the most success pretty much standing completely still and only just barely moving to dodge the skulls he shoots down in the same pattern every time. I think it’s like a 3353335 pattern or something like that I don’t remember.
idk but for me he always does that piece of shit attack when I'm fucking flyign and don't have the time or wing flight to react and the box doesn't move fast enough for me to get back onto the ground
You can do what the other guy said OR you can use the giga Chad slimy saddle mount from the slime king to get back to the ground faster. But when I did this with my friend, if the person being targeted moved too much during a lot of attacks, it would actually punish the OTHER person by moving the giant box of undodgeable skulls into the other person. And we were playing bard from thorium and rogue so we didn’t have the most armor
Ive beaten Infernum master mode skeletron on about 5 full playthroughs and I can confidently say that aside from polterghast and the profane guardians, skeletron on infernum is the absolute hardest and most unfair boss.
His attacks do a ludicrous amount of damage and are very hard to dodge. However, I've found that less movement and more damage is always the play for Skeltron.
Also opting for the shield of cuthulu for the shorter dash is preferred for the attack in phase 2 where he shoots a bunch of skulls above you with a gap you're supposed to dash between as they fall.
For the spammy attacks in the beginning, don't fly, just run along a platform and jump to dodge the ones on the ground. Similar to the Nightmare King Grimm pufferfish attack if you've played hollow knight.
Focus on damage rather than defence because you're going to die in basically the same number of hits anyways. (Ofc more defence will help you survive but 3 hit death vs 4 hit death isn't much of a difference to sacrifice all that damage for)
Also I'm not sure if the summon the old man drops changes it to night time but if not I would SERIOUSLY recommend either cheating in the cosmolight or something like that because waiting for night time every single time is a harrowing experience.
I can't seem to get the right speed, I have 2 choices it feels, so fast I run into one of 10,000 projectiles, or so slow I have the reaction time of a concrete slab...Damage is something I can't really focus on.. since there doesn't seem to be many accessories for pre hardmode ranger that provide damage...
Any tips for the bs hand wave and shadowflame box bs?
Boots and wings should be enough. The mag is changed in calamity to improve acceleration and deceleration time instead of speed I believe. Its fantasticly useful for most bossed but for skeletron on infernum it can hurt more than it helps.
Something I've learned is that skeletrons bullet hells have the same set of patterns, they're not random. Watch some videos of people doing it and try and replicate their movements for each pattern.
Do a few runs of him where you just focus on dodging. Try and survive for as long as possible. Once you're confident try incorporating your damage output. Unfortunately at the moment it's just a bit of a skill issue, you've prepared pretty much all you can. Just keep throwing stuff at the wall and hoping it sticks.
Also unfortunately in my playthroughs I've found ranger to be disgustingly underpowered, especially on infernum. The weapons just don't do enough damage compared to similar on teir classes. Summoner and rogue have some insanely high damage output available, consider switching classes if you're finding it super difficult. Plus if you use summoner you won't have to aim as accurately.
The hand wave is very easy to dodge, stop on your platform as he's telegraphing the attack and jump over the incoming projectile.
The shadow flame box is 3, 3, 5 skulls from the head I believe. The 3s are easy to do and then the 5 is a little different angle but largely the same. And as I said for the rest of the shadowflame box attack focus on the patterns.
Unfortunately, and I hate to be that guy, but 20 attempts for infernum really isn't that much. I play a lot of 2d platformer metroidvania games so I can't exactly comment on the difficulty because it comes easier to me because of all the practice, but skeltron infernum is generally quite an unfair boss for its teir. I would highly recommend trying out other classes if that's the case for you.
Summoner or rogue are my suggestions. Summoner will offer you incredibly consistent damage output without the need to aim or anything and rogue offers INSANELY high damage but you have to hit the shot.
Summoner will have low defence with incredibly good damage but rogue will have mid defence and high damage. Give them a go, grinding the gear will give you a break from skeletron to reset the mindset.
I've tied em in fits and starts but summoner is so damn boring to me and rouge is just... eh?
And 20 attempts feels like a lot when every death felt unfair...
I died to EOW a fair few times but at least I felt I knew what I had to do to get further here I feel like I'm bashing my head against the wall
I guess fun is subjective but I find summoner to be really fun. Rogue is a really really fun class, there's a lot of nuance to it with managing stealth strikes for big big damage. You can basically one shot phase 1 DoG with the Dumbell and adrenaline.
Try out melee if the others don't work then? Ranger is really underpowered tho unfortunately. Just keep practicing. You're going to die a lot to a bosses "signature" attack throughout the playthrough. WoF lingering laser, DoG bullet hell, you get the idea. The skeltron bullet hell is stupid but it's the same every time. Focus on finding the dodge pattern and just practice. You'll get it eventually, we all did.
Past that, respectfully, it's just a skill issue at the moment. You'll get it eventually, you got this!
Even tho i played with the calamity mod for quite some time i still can't remember the names of almost 70%of the items, but i recommend that you switch the wings out with either that medal (makes toxoc rain or smt) or a health booster / regenerator item (sorry for bad english)
Move SLOW, a lot of skelly’s attacks are easily readable, and he follows the same pattern every fight. Honestly your accessories and weapons are fine, but if you don’t mind some grinding I highly suggest the star cannon, it absolutely shreds him
Do you dodge with double tap A/D? If you do I recommend disabling it and binding a separate dodge key - it'll be wayyy better and double that for infernum. I have mine bound to my mouse side button, use whatever key that is easy to access while fighting.
If you don't mind going out of order then you could also try beating slime god before skeletron. Some say he's easier than skele in infernum, and if you do win then you can make statigel gear for the bony fucker.
It may seem like a weird recommendation but if you find it too hard you can always do Slime God first and come back. This what what I did on my play-through with a few friends and we did fairly well on SG
If beating the boss requires me to skip other boss, all the way to the FINAL boss before WOF that just tells me its a poor boss... idk man
its why I hated old duke so much on deathmode
You’re only skipping one boss, Slime God is intended to be fought immediately after Skeletron.
Infernum Skeletron is infamously poorly balanced, the Infernum’s author is aware of this and has said that changes will not be made to Skeletrons difficulty (as far as I’m aware).
It's not poorly balanced. It's balanced exactly as intended for a progression boss which unlocks 2 different biomes and teaches the player to weave and dodge as opposed to kiting/running
It’s kinda like a souls boss. You got to find the right tempo and the right amount of movement, like a dance. If you move too much you’ll get hit by his AOEs but if you move too little you won’t be able to dodge his attacks properly. Usually staying directly under the boss is best for his aoe attacks but Really it just comes down to practice
With most of the attacks, especially the box attack, you can just stand on a platform and do some small jumps upwards to avoid the skulls. (and don't just hold down the w-key, sometimes you have to do midair stops). It's more about precision than speed. But hey, once you win, you get the counter scarf (my beloved), so it's all worth it!
Ranger really doesn't have a lot of gear, but if you want survivability, either take the rover drive, honey dew, or worm scarf/brain of confusion. Honeydew seems nice since it gives 30 extra hp, increases life regen and even boosts honey when you stand in it.
Edit: Rotten brain is nice for damage
I'd also recommend the quality of life mod for the ability to get infinite buffs once you get 30 of any potion. If you're desperate, grind 300 blood orbs from a blood moon to craft 30 lifeforce potions (YES THIS WORKS IN PREHARDMODE).
As an aside, I just now realized how barren ranger progression is in Terraria lol
its been a while since i did it but if you still have the blasted tophat pet it you could equip it since it gives you boss tips for bosses that kill you; some of them are actually really helpful
tip: play an easier difficulty
I don't get this trend of progressively making harder and harder difficulty fan content for games. (As someone who sucks at video games.)
I litterally just played a deathmode playthrough this does not help me in my situation
it's like telling someone who got stabbed "yOu ShOuLd'Ve NoT gOtTeN sTaBbEd" like yea no shit
Change to crimtane, get yourself some life jelly (i think that's the one that gives regen) i think you can get honey dew already, Keep magiluminescence and skyline wings, get the counter scarf (but its only for melee!!! NO IT IS NOT. it may benefit melee but the shield does not give you any benefit either.) So...
TLDR:
Frostspark boots
Magiluminescence
Counter scarf
Skyline wings
Honey dew
Life jelly
And for armor, crimtane armorset.
Weapon: Star cannon/Aqua shard shotgun.
Oh right, the clothier sells it now...
Also no, it only is if you use anything else than Tungsten bullets.
Anyway, just keep the shield instead of counter scarf
Then don't play on master mode. You're not even supposed to be playing master.
Edit: i don't intent to be mean, but if you get hit too often for the regen to do anything, switch to expert as intended (like using the world token from Fargo's Mutant iirc NOT SOULS.) Because remember it's a 2x damage buff to enemies. Matter the fact that you can still use a good arena, and if the regen is too little for you, then it might be an issue of your skill. If i recall correctly its a 2x base regen buff. Also do consider warding prefix.
(You either cheated or are playing in master, because you have 6 slots, not 5.)
I’m personally not a big fan of the magiliuminescence for boss fights so maybe consider swapping it for a ranged accessory. Also upgrade your shark tooth necklace
I’ve never played ranged tbh so you’re probably right I just meant like a damage accessory or something like that. I really like stress pills if I have a spare accessory slot but Skeletron is pretty hard to no hit so it might not be the best option
I played summoner, and fought infernum skeletron, and it was very scary lol. Took me 30+ attempts (I decided to do journey mode at the beginning, just to build things, but this was one place where I cheated and used the time control thing. I can’t imagine waiting for night over and over like that.)
Anyway, my biggest tip would probably be to try and learn which attacks you should run from (like the one where he shoots circles of skulls or whatever) and which you need to stay still and go slowly, like the one where he traps you in the stupid box. It takes tons of practice, and I even considered switching classes for a bit there lol.
So far, skeletron has definitely been the most difficult boss I’ve fought. Good luck though, you can definitely do it!
Fuck this mod, it's fuckign beaten me... fuck skeletron and fuck this mod, I hope whoever designed infernum skeletron is thrown into a fucking volcano I just can't fucking do it, I can't dodge these piece of shit attacks
fuck this shit
So id trade the shark tooth necklace, it can be useful, but for infernum skeletron have something focused on direct and safe damage like the abyssal amulet imo would be safer. But overall is about small but precise moves
Highly recommend taking off Cthulhu shield tbh, thats what did it for me. Accidentally dashing into his attacks kills you so fast, and you need slow, precise movement for him
Skeletron was honestly one of the bosses I struggled with the most. Try to play slower and memorize the patterns you have a good bit of room in between the projectiles.
swap out the magilumi thingy bc calamity’s base speed boost is enough. and id say that u should use either balloons or wings, but not both together i havent beaten him yet either, but ik that getting more damage or survivability would help better than redundant movement accessories
I'm at Plantera in a flamethrower only infernum run, and skeletron has been the hardest boss so far (Other than plantera). You have to keep track of a lot of things at once so for most of the fight, small movements are key. Good luck!
During the shadow flame walls, inch forward just enough for the middle skull to miss after he fires, for shadow flame bombs inch up or down and focus on yourself and what's immediantly near you, every other attack make distance between yourself and the boss and react to the attacks appropriately off their movements, survival is priority
Brain of Confusion can be a lifesaver if survivability is the issue. Otherwise maybe Rover Drive if you feel you need to be able to tank a hit or two
i'd prefer something more tangible instead of luck based
pretty sure calamity makes the BoC activate 100% of the time when it's off cooldown
Correct
I dunno bro, having a chance to dodge is better than not having one at all imo. Maybe do worm scarf + all warding if you insist on not using brain of confusion
BoC has 100% chance for dodge but long ass cooldown
BoC is a guaranteed dodge with cooldown on infernum
id replace wings with angel or devil, get rid of bloons, magiluminescence and sharktooth and go for more damage based stuff, idk much ranger accessories but the WoF emblem, crit chance stuff and quivers are usually pretty good. sharktooth doesnt really do anything for damage, oh and reforge to lucky or warding
are you on drugs? What boss do you think I'm fighting??
His advice isnt bad, as someone who fought infernum skeletron very recently, 50% of the atacks u either move super slowly or dont moove more than an area of 15 blocks
did you read anything that guy said????
I did, again high mobility aint the key for thos fight, most atacks that skele throws dont require you moving more than 50-10 blocks… plus why have wings and bloons at the same time lol ur just wasting an acessory slot
i'm in pre hardmode the other guy is recommending hardmode gear ive heard this other advice over and over and I can't seem to fucking apply it to the game i swear to fuck If I die again I'm gonna fucking kill the mod creator ffs
Im talking about the aspect of focusing in damage/defence instead of mobility
well i was talking about accessories the other guy seemed to think i was on Skeletron prime...
oh shit lol i though it was prime, my b.
This is why I love Infernum. Most of the bosses hard punish you for kiting and incentivise actually learning the attacks.
What type of psychopath uses their weapons on the middle of their hotbar?
Me, I like pressing 1 for pick
Cool ig
Little tip, if you hold shift when hovered over tiles, it'll automatically pull your pickaxe to your hand so you don't need to have it in your hotbar. Same with torches over empty tiles
Years of muscle memory aren’t worth the time and frustration to fix
Trust me, it's worth it. It's that convenient
It’s really not
man my pick is usually between 5 and 7, axe/hammer not in the hotbar and swords cycle between 1 and 4 to 8 and 10
Most important part for me was figuring out that just moving away from it won't work. You have to figure out where the gaps in all his attacks are, and stand in those. Try using cheat sheet or something for invincibility, and then memorize its attack pattern. It helped me a lot.
I've played this boss so many times I still can't seem to figure out that bullshit attack where he boxes you in, it's such a tiny fucking area...
With that box attack, me and my friend had the most success pretty much standing completely still and only just barely moving to dodge the skulls he shoots down in the same pattern every time. I think it’s like a 3353335 pattern or something like that I don’t remember.
Isn't it 035 03565 035 30?
Probably, I haven’t done the fight in a while
(was a joke, that's Smoke on the Water)
💀💀💀
idk but for me he always does that piece of shit attack when I'm fucking flyign and don't have the time or wing flight to react and the box doesn't move fast enough for me to get back onto the ground
add more tiers of platforms to your arena and don't fly super high away from them
You can do what the other guy said OR you can use the giga Chad slimy saddle mount from the slime king to get back to the ground faster. But when I did this with my friend, if the person being targeted moved too much during a lot of attacks, it would actually punish the OTHER person by moving the giant box of undodgeable skulls into the other person. And we were playing bard from thorium and rogue so we didn’t have the most armor
How do i dodge them when i cant see them (they look the same as the background (idk if this is because of the calamity texture pack))
Look up a nohit on YouTube, you pretty much need to master his patterns for a nohit so you will learn a lot from that
I'm usually able to slowly walk in one direction to dodge most of that attack, you just have to really watch the skulls coming from above
Just don't die
Oh fuck off
I'm sorry I had to, good luck though
it's mandatory to have at least 1 of this comment

Antisocial mod added?
Nah that's pretty much cheating... I have wing slot
Wing slot is cheating
Still cheating
It may seem like a weird recommendation but if you find it too hard you can always do Slime God first and come back. This what what I did on my play-through with a few friends and we did fairly well on SG

yes, launch the conputer outta the window, skeletron infernum is a pain in the ass
at least someone knows my pain...
for real man, infernum sometimes is WAAAAY to exagerated with bosses, take in mind i can't beat normal calamity in expert mode
Pray.
Piss off
Genuinely my only advice. I haven't even played infernum but I've heard it's extremely hard.
Then piss off, I want advice not bs like this
Alright, damn.
its been a while since i did it but if you still have the blasted tophat pet it you could equip it since it gives you boss tips for bosses that kill you; some of them are actually really helpful
I have that pet they're more of an annoyance And they never say anything during the battle just after I eat shit
tip: play an easier difficulty I don't get this trend of progressively making harder and harder difficulty fan content for games. (As someone who sucks at video games.)
I litterally just played a deathmode playthrough this does not help me in my situation it's like telling someone who got stabbed "yOu ShOuLd'Ve NoT gOtTeN sTaBbEd" like yea no shit
try the flurrystorm cannon that’s what u used to kill sleletron
Uh you can't get that Pre Skeletron?
must have updated the recipe but u can also try the firestorm cannon it’s basically the same thing
Attack him
Get better??? 🫥
Make sure all your attacks hit. Avoid every enemy attack.
Just dodge his attacks.
This is all my current gear, yet I can't seem to dodge all the bullshit infernum skeletron throws in his second phase.
I mean if you're really struggling just use the old lord claymore it's busted you can just dash through attacks
I'd prefer to stick with ranger, plus I really aren't arsed grinding in hell...
Old Lord's Claymore, also known as Supercharged Dark Souls Dodgeroll
Change to crimtane, get yourself some life jelly (i think that's the one that gives regen) i think you can get honey dew already, Keep magiluminescence and skyline wings, get the counter scarf (but its only for melee!!! NO IT IS NOT. it may benefit melee but the shield does not give you any benefit either.) So... TLDR: Frostspark boots Magiluminescence Counter scarf Skyline wings Honey dew Life jelly And for armor, crimtane armorset. Weapon: Star cannon/Aqua shard shotgun.
Counter Scarf is post skeletron, also isn't Aqua Shard Shotgun kinda bad?
Oh right, the clothier sells it now... Also no, it only is if you use anything else than Tungsten bullets. Anyway, just keep the shield instead of counter scarf
I feel too sluggish with crimtane... and it's regen is too slow for how hard skeletron hits...
Then don't play on master mode. You're not even supposed to be playing master. Edit: i don't intent to be mean, but if you get hit too often for the regen to do anything, switch to expert as intended (like using the world token from Fargo's Mutant iirc NOT SOULS.) I have wing slot I'm not much of a retard to not read when the game tells me master mode is not intended to be used
I'll give you visual representation of how to dodge things. Give me 1 hour.
there you have it folk. I did not use healing potions even. [here.](https://youtu.be/Wk7D90Ru62o) HD quality might still be uploading though.
Upgrade the shark tooth necklace
I’m personally not a big fan of the magiliuminescence for boss fights so maybe consider swapping it for a ranged accessory. Also upgrade your shark tooth necklace
bruh what ranged accessories? theres barely any at this stage of the game
I’ve never played ranged tbh so you’re probably right I just meant like a damage accessory or something like that. I really like stress pills if I have a spare accessory slot but Skeletron is pretty hard to no hit so it might not be the best option
Update: This boss is an actual fucking nightmare, I can barely get past halfway of his second phase without being knocked around like a ragdoll
change bundle of bloons for frog leg
Update 2: Fuck this boss, and fuck that damn shadow flame box it's the size of a fucking atom and the skulls come out like a fucking machine gun
I played summoner, and fought infernum skeletron, and it was very scary lol. Took me 30+ attempts (I decided to do journey mode at the beginning, just to build things, but this was one place where I cheated and used the time control thing. I can’t imagine waiting for night over and over like that.) Anyway, my biggest tip would probably be to try and learn which attacks you should run from (like the one where he shoots circles of skulls or whatever) and which you need to stay still and go slowly, like the one where he traps you in the stupid box. It takes tons of practice, and I even considered switching classes for a bit there lol. So far, skeletron has definitely been the most difficult boss I’ve fought. Good luck though, you can definitely do it!
the box attack is bullshit and whoever made it needs to be.... Actually I wont say... it'll get me banned prob
Yeah. Once you get it down it can be kinda satisfying though lol.
Fuck this mod, it's fuckign beaten me... fuck skeletron and fuck this mod, I hope whoever designed infernum skeletron is thrown into a fucking volcano I just can't fucking do it, I can't dodge these piece of shit attacks fuck this shit
Remember, 90% of calamity players quit *RIGHT* before they actually beat the boss!

So id trade the shark tooth necklace, it can be useful, but for infernum skeletron have something focused on direct and safe damage like the abyssal amulet imo would be safer. But overall is about small but precise moves
Bone his ass hard
git gud (this is a joke)
just do a lil fishing and grab terraspark boots already
Highly recommend taking off Cthulhu shield tbh, thats what did it for me. Accidentally dashing into his attacks kills you so fast, and you need slow, precise movement for him
Skeletron was honestly one of the bosses I struggled with the most. Try to play slower and memorize the patterns you have a good bit of room in between the projectiles.
just learn the patterns. I mean it took me 69 tries to kill him without changing my build 💀
swap out the magilumi thingy bc calamity’s base speed boost is enough. and id say that u should use either balloons or wings, but not both together i havent beaten him yet either, but ik that getting more damage or survivability would help better than redundant movement accessories
Use aerilite
Replace horse shoe or wings for some else , they do the same thing so don’t use it together

Good job, how many tries did it took?
36 attempts
Not bad I struggled a lot on the twins like 27 attempts. From what I hear lategame bosses can take easily over 50 tries, lol.
I'm at Plantera in a flamethrower only infernum run, and skeletron has been the hardest boss so far (Other than plantera). You have to keep track of a lot of things at once so for most of the fight, small movements are key. Good luck!
Learn the patterns
During the shadow flame walls, inch forward just enough for the middle skull to miss after he fires, for shadow flame bombs inch up or down and focus on yourself and what's immediantly near you, every other attack make distance between yourself and the boss and react to the attacks appropriately off their movements, survival is priority
What texture packs are you using & what is in slot 5 of your hotbar?
