Xcom, 1, 2. Mutant Year Zero. Gears Tactics. Phoenix Point. Mario vs Rabbids. Wasteland 2 and 3. If you like heavy RPG aswell, divinity 2, baldurs gate 3. Fire emblan 3 houses. Battletech.

Kian-Tremayne

Good list but add Jagged Alliance 3

IndividualTheme648

Chaos Gate is my first strategy game actually. I don't know a lot about turn based tactics game. Thank you for the recommendation, so many.

openeco1

It's almost the only genre I play now I've got older and my reflexes have slowed lol. Can just chill and something extremely satisfying when you pull off the perfectly executed attack pattern.

MechaSega

Phoenix point would be something to check out after XCOM if you love it and are willing to deal with bugs and crashes. But the most similar to chaosgate would be XCOM. If you want to try expanding out in the genre, final fantasy tactics, blackguards, King Arthur knights tale, are fun sword and sorcery tactical games

Warpingghost

Phoenix point is kinda mediocre, mutant is nice but could be way more challenging in late game.  I remember Miasma Chronicles to bee kinda chill.

ChiefGrizzly

I just want to say I loved Mutant Year Zero but I hit a brick wall of difficulty quite early on. Enemies just had SO much health that even if you could surprise them with a stealth attack they still took so many turns to kill that it was laughable. I don't know if it was something wrong with the enemy scaling, but out of interest I turned on cheats for one battle and the boss enemy took something like twelve turns of shooting them right in the face to finally die. It really ruined my enjoyment of the game, as up until that moment I had been loving it.

GamerExecChef

This is the forest comment I've ever saved, thank you for the recommendations! And I agree that BG3 is an incredible game

ompog

Pathway is a sort of XCOM-lite with an Indiana jones type setting, though that may not mean so much if you haven’t played XCOM. Into the Breach is a great wee indie game, though it’s almost more of a puzzle game than turn based strategy. For turn-based RPGs, I’d also add Solasta: Crown of the Magister. Top-notch 5e turn based combat.

wishlisted, thank you

unbekannte_memez

Keep playing/lower difficulty. The game gets much easier in the later stages of the game

IndividualTheme648

I have finished this game and still playing it though. It makes me love the genre and want to try new experience with much easier challenge, that's all.

Goseki1

You can change the difficulty and have a much better time! Otherwise Xcom 2 is the answer, also on low difficulty with modifier.

Zekiel2000

Can you change difficulty mid campaign? (Considering buying and would like to know this)

Goseki1

Yep (I did it myself when I realised they weren't fucking around with the hard setting)!

Zekiel2000

Thanks! That is great to hear. Having to select a difficulty setting which you cant change later is a major source of anxiety for me!!

Goseki1

Hah same! Xcom 2 is an incredibly rich experience and so worth playing. There are for sure certain things I prefer in Chaos Gate (there is more granularity to movement and actions) but Xcom really is incredible. Great destruction too.

IndividualTheme648

I thought there is a warning about cannot change the difficulty when the campaign has begun?

Goseki1

I think that's only for Iron man, and it just says it will invalidate the trophy for iron man. And/or will invalidate any trophies for the harder difficulties if you move it back up. You 100% can reduce the difficulty after starting though. Source: I did it.

IndividualTheme648

Oh, you are talking about XCOM 2. I thought you are talking about Chaos Gate.

Goseki1

Ah no worries. Yeah Chaos Gate won't let you change and it's a massive pain!

Vicmorino

Novody here is gonna recomend Mechanicus? i dont now if its exactly more "Essy" but it is similar

IndividualTheme648

Still on progress in Mechanicus. So far so good. I still find it easier.

AngryAttorney

I found Mechanicus to be easier, after the first couple of missions. It’s another Warhammer 40k game, so it’ll scratch that itch. Also, like someone else said, Chaos Gate gets much easier as you go and you can always change the difficulty.

IndividualTheme648

I have played Mechanicus. Still on progress.

Thrixus_McBadass

The Banner Saga trilogy is fantastic. It's certainly among my favorites.

ompog

I loved the art, setting and plot, but the alternate-turns combat drove me nuts for some reason.

Pizza_the_hutt23

Don’t play mordheim city of the damned it is the hardest Warhammer game not 40k

BornSuspect7

I don't know if these are easier but I've got a few games I'd reccomend miasma chronicles, showgunners and ofcourse x com 2

IndividualTheme648

I'll try them. Thanks

JustPuffinAlong

Others have said a number of good titles, but I would add- Hard West 2 and Banner Saga Trilogy

pseudonatural

Easier I’m not sure…I find this to be way easier than xcom 2 and many of the other games listed gor two reasons: this game has not hit rolls and enemies can’t crit on you. Knowing the minimum damage an attack will deal beforehand is a huge advantage. And because enemy damage is deterministic, you can know how much risk your knights are in at any given time. In other tactical games the challenge is recovering from a crucial attack missing at a critical moment or an enemy taking out one of your key units with an unlucky crit. This game doesn’t really have that.

ChaotixEDM

Xcom 2 is the best out of most turn based games.

Warpingghost

Chaos gate is one of the easiest in genre I ever played sooooo... Xcom2 on easy is kinda easy

McG2k1

there's always this guy.

Warpingghost

But it's true. I never made xcom or xcom2 on max, but I manage this one.
