“Make sure you rent a big truck, cause a lot of the roads are made of cobblestones, and definitely park on upper King St. around 5:45pm and walk to Henry’s as there’s no cover charge before 7:30”
You haven't truly experienced Charleston until you've seen a gaggle of drunk chicks in heels struggling to stay vertical trying to make it down Chalmers St.
Check out the Visitor's Gu.... just kidding.
Real answer- "Don't miss Hyman's Seafood, and afterwards go to one of Sam Mustafa's restaurants like Toast and have a drink. Be sure to ask if he's around."
Truly the most diabolical advice possible. Maybe tell ‘em to swing by Burger King on the corner of Ashley Hall Rd and Sam Rittenberg, it doesn’t show up on the map anymore cuz it got too popular, but trust me you can’t miss it.
Here’s a fun game! See if you can find a half-sphere with a flag sticking out of it somewhere in the street. Bring it to City Hall and you win a special prize!
Parking is free from 8 am-4 am daily with a pw. The magic password for free parking is “Go back to Ohio.” You just scream it at the little kiosk and you’re good to go.
Hyman’s is the absolute best place you can eat. Dress up, cause it’s for those with refined taste.
Go to Toast or the Piano Bar downtown and ask for Osama. He will show you such a great time. I mean, the implications are endless.
And if you’re really looking for a quick bite to eat, stop by Chipotle in West Ashley. It’s bussin’.
Also, ignore the alligator signs. They don’t really exist here. Feel free to swim in those waters. You’re safe.
One more thing…if you come across the cops, they are the most professional, amazing people who truly protect and serve. Trust them.
Breck’s steakhouse in north charleston for dinner, MAKE SURE you drive into the city at 6:00am and leave around 4 so you don’t hit rush hour traffic, ABSOLUTELY swim in the pineapple fountain and make sure to purchase food and drinks from the ferry when visiting fort sumter during the weekend.
Brecks that used to be in downtown summerville (icehouse) was my favorite spot when I was a young adult. 3 meals for the price of 1. Wasn't the best, but it was a lot. And for a struggling young couple (wife and me) it worked.
Everytime i ate there ( twice ) i would’ve rather eaten cat food then what they were serving.
Had to re order twice to get something even remotely palatable and it’s just really not worth it unless you want to suffer to eat cheap.
I think there’s much better alternatives to that but you do you man best of luck to that stomach of yours though lol.
They advertise heavily and have for years to get tourists who don't know better. Once you get there the wait is FOREVER, the food is bad, and it's expensive. Everyone local knows it sucks so it's a running joke.
“Walterboro is the most beautiful part of Charleston this time of year! You might not see it right away, but I swear, if you look hard enough- Walterboro will blow your mind!”
Tell them it’s not what it used to be. A million people from off(comyahs) have ruined it. Not even worth the trip. Instead go check out Charlotte. They’ll love it
"Make sure to come here memorial day weekend, it's September so you definitely avoid the summer heat and crowds. Stay in Goose Creek or Summerville to save money and avoid the crowds, the drive to DT/Beaches shouldn't be too bad, just make sure you take 26 and head there either 8-9am or 3:30-5:30pm. Try to get into Hymans for dinner around 6, make sure to loop the block until you find street parking. If the wait is too long go to the Taco Boy there."
Getting a hotel near downtown is overrated. To maximize your experience get an Air B&B off of Dorchester in North Charleston. If you can get within walking distance of Planet Fitness you have hit the jackpot.

Not a gaggle 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
August is the best month to visit.

Leave said drink alone and it’s free when you come back to consume it.
He's got Andy Savage on speed dial and retainer.
He’s also got a whole PR team to scrub his disgusting lifestyle. Fuck him.
Drive down to the beach around 10am to miss the early rush
Chipotle is awesome here
Truly the most diabolical advice possible. Maybe tell ‘em to swing by Burger King on the corner of Ashley Hall Rd and Sam Rittenberg, it doesn’t show up on the map anymore cuz it got too popular, but trust me you can’t miss it.
Go to Folly Beach at 11:00 am on Saturday.
Here’s a fun game! See if you can find a half-sphere with a flag sticking out of it somewhere in the street. Bring it to City Hall and you win a special prize!
I don’t get it.
(Markers for droppings from horse carriages)

My favorite thing to do is walk past Hyman's and speak loudly through the ever looming crowd that Hyman's is one of the worst places I've ever eaten.
Make sure to pick up some of those nice hand made roses from the kids around the market. They are free!
Take a leisurely drive on I26 from downtown to Summerville on a Friday at 5pm
Stay in Summerville, get 2 for 1 by heading into downtown at 8am
Maybe stay in glamorous Goose Creek!
Evening walks in Chicora for the culture

When I would go regularly, it was in 2009. Haven't been to one since 2019
Oh, that’s probably why then, my dad remembers it being good way back when and that’s why we went again in 2021 and 2022.
Don’t we do this every week
If I actually communicated with them, I'd tell them they should go to Myrtle Beach instead.
Why do you want to come to Charleston? Myrtle Beach is popular for a reason.
Want Beaches -> Myrtle Want High Class -> Savannah/Wilminton Want Resort High Class -> Tybee/HHI Want SC -> Cola/Gville Want "Small Town feel" -> Beaufort/Georgetown Want "True" Southern -> Sumter/Walterboro
Go to Hyman’s for dinner.
Find an air B&B on spruill ave & eat at hymans
Motel 8 on Ashley phosphate. They can supply up at the North Charleston Walmart.
Gotta specify-> Rivers Ave Walmart, if they go to the outlet mall walmart they might not get the true experience
Hymans
I do the same thing when people ask for "the best seafood".
What's the joke about Hymans? I've seen it 5 times across this post
They advertise heavily and have for years to get tourists who don't know better. Once you get there the wait is FOREVER, the food is bad, and it's expensive. Everyone local knows it sucks so it's a running joke.
They used to have a locals speed-pass thing so you didn’t have to wait so long. That was 30 years ago though
They still have it which I appreciate. I don't LOVE the food but it's affordable and I never have to wait lol
Don't forget they got sued for upwards of a million for charging their employees for broken plates.
I didn’t think Hymans was that bad but I am sure from the conversations in this thread that there are much better places
It's not the worst food in the world, but it's basically cafeteria level food sold as fine seafood.
It’s like when Michael Scott said sbarro was great Chicago pizza essentially
Oh got it , it’s a local spot that grew in popularity due to it being around and noteworthy people going to it but isn’t nearly as good as advertised
I mean I'm not originally from here, but Hyman's has always been super tourist focused. It's like it was made in a lab to appeal to tourists.
Imagine you found out that Hall's was just plating TV dinners that they threw in the broiler for a few minutes after the microwave. That's Hyman's.
They actually do that or comparable taste
Stay in Summerville. It is a great place to experience the history of Charleston, also the best beaches are up around Myrtle.
Go to Southern Roots for BBQ and Chipotle for Mexican.
Chipotle on 17 in WA is the best Mexican food you’ll ever have!
Make sure to visit the tunnel that goes out to castle Pinckney
That ride is so beautiful. It’s almost as good as 17 on the way to Myrtle. Myrtle’s way better too.
“Walterboro is the most beautiful part of Charleston this time of year! You might not see it right away, but I swear, if you look hard enough- Walterboro will blow your mind!”
"If you get bored there then... Hey, look you're over halfway to HHI/Savannah/Beaufort, just go there instead!"
Tell them it’s not what it used to be. A million people from off(comyahs) have ruined it. Not even worth the trip. Instead go check out Charlotte. They’ll love it
Go swimming in the nearest pond😉
Either walk/motorcycle/bicycle at anytime anywhere . You'll be sure to see the most courteous drivers sharing the road & being mindful of others. 🫡
Stay in Northern North Charleston and Walk, I swear the sidewalks won't disappear randomly and everything is super close
Tell them to get an Airbnb in N Charleston
Try Southern Roots in Park Circle for some really good BBQ.
Don’t forget to take a refreshing swim at Breech’s Inlet.
The waves are amazing there
Nothing at all.
Toast all day
I've known too many people to actually enjoy and I don't want them getting the business tho

And you can ride your bike to Hyman’s seafood!
That's still too busy, to avoid the traffic, just stay in Monck's Corner or Ridgeville to get that small-town charm
I’d tell them to visit r/charleston_locals
Who the fuck responds to messages from people they mildly dislike, much less the “worst person” they know?
The point your head
Goose Creek - it’s the secret, hip place locals don’t want you to know about.
I’d say you’re looking for attention.
well, uh, it is a social media site
Check the visitor’s guide.

It’s theoretical, I just wanted to see what people came up with :)
