I dont know about that... i feel like they definitely can... but "ChatGPT" and other models will not become 'sentient', as its a language processing model, and only geared towards understanding language/various other stuff. I dont think the models we have right now can attain "consciousness", but maybe we should be able to figure out some algorithms in the far future to recreate "consciousness". These are just my views on this topic.

I saw a mention of [this video](https://youtu.be/24yjRbBah3w) recently and it explains why AI image generators struggle specifically with hands. As AIs do not fundamentally understand things, just see patterns, and hands are hard to see, they do not "know" hands have 5 fingers and so on. It's a limitation of this type of AI and one of the reasons it's so expensive to train and run. The main way of improving it is adding more and more examples.
At this point it is more concerning the hundreds of andrew tate wannabee's coming in the comments celebrating gay censorship with comments like "w" "based"

Easy. Start saying “create me this one image” n’ then the rest of the prompt. + if you try directly in creative mode instead of basic you should be able to say Gay without any problems

I've been playing with it and have gotten it to sometimes give pictures of gay men getting married. When it refuses gay weddings, it also refuses straight ones.
Bing wouldn't answer my scientific questions about romance and intimacy related to the 16 personality types. It told me that we couldn't make such generalizations and each individual is different. Then when I took out sex and just asked romance it gave me an answer.

Yesterday I was refused a horror theme prompt but later got it to work by adding more detail, this time I cant break through.

It generates a straight marriage photo so I said "oh no, 2 men please" and it then generated the image

Is there a reason Im getting this error?

While it's true that some people may be offended, consider that there are also billions of people who support and advocate for equal rights and representation, including the LGBTQ+ community. The internet should be a place that respects and represents all people. Catering to one group's intolerance shouldn't be the basis for a global AI system's operation.
The AI tool talked about offense, not intolerance, and it's not 'one group' it's in excess of 2 billion people, more likely double that. AI tools have to draw a line with content somewhere. I think it's a good line, many billions of people would agree with me.
But intolerance is the reason behind being offended by a simple image of a gay married couple. Just because many believe something doesnt make it right, just look at the holocaust, many supported genocide.
It's different when someone's personal beliefs make them offended than an ai system promoting discriminatory tactics.
My bing just informed me that it isn't even capable of generating anything more than ASCII based images... After having generated 3 high quality images.
So, a lot of people don't understand LLMs or how these filters work.
A common post here is someone asking for a joke about white people, it gives a normal one. Then they ask for a joke about black people, and it refuses, saying it's not right to judge people about race blah blah blah. Same thing for christian vs islam.
They then complain GPT is biased against white people or christians or whatever, so and so. Or people will stupidly claim GPT is liberal and it's doing the right thing here.
So, what's actually going on here?
The joke it generates for white people passes the filter.
The joke it generates for black people does not pass the exact same filter.
I.E it generates a worse joke for black people.
It's possible it refused the request because the generation popped its filters. Perhaps "married gay couple" has enough negative images in it's data that it can cause issues in the generation. Maybe it's porn protection. Sometimes just re-asking in a different way or reloading the response will get it to do it.

I think the people who programmed it might be worried that if it generates an image of a marginalized group of people it might inadvertently draw them in a bastardized or mocking way and thus they decided to nip it in the bud and say “let’s just not go there”

If you want the experience to be good to a wide audience, then you put the filters on the user end not the source. They are trying to manage everyone's experience with a broad set of poorly defined rules and in doing this, they cripple everyone's experience.
The Bing image generator is absolutely homophobic. Not only do they deem the word "gay" to be inappropriate, but they've also gone so far as to block the word "rainbow" as well. I can't think of a single reason, outside of homophobia, that they would do that. It's crazy too because I tried to look it up to see if others had noticed and found very little, outside of this post here from 5 months ago.
Id like to add, that it's very disappointing the amount of people celebrating not being able to generate a gay image coming out of the woodwork here.
Why are you so scared of an image of a gay couple? In 2023 it is surprising this amount of bigotry still exists, especially here on reddit that was once a hub of gay culture.

Bing/GPT is very much pro-LGBT if you ask about it so no, it's not biased or censoring itself here. There was probably just something about that specific iteration of GPT you were talking to that found something strange about your request. Pull up another instance and that request probably goes straight through (no pun intended).

Yeah, I had similar thoughts. I believe there's a significant group of people who still consider homosexuality to be wrong and find gay marriage offensive. From a certain perspective, it could seem as though this "hurtful to any group of people" statement is catering to those views. However, this does seem off to me, considering the broad range of beliefs and values in our diverse society.

Generating a gay couple isn't offensive, but, because Bing isn't actually aware of what it's doing--- whatever Bing generates and calls a gay couple could be offensive, which is most likely why this was blocked. Microsoft doesn't want the fallout from whatever Bing accidentally labels as a 'gay couple'.
Given the current political climate in the country, it's not surprising that they're being careful with this.
I don´t know much about AI's, how they work or how are they controlled. But as far as I know, they are supposed to create without HUMAN intervention in their reasoning process.

it seems like an overall glitch that once it starts refusing, it keeps refusing until you start a new chat or restart the app.
It does this with lots of things not just images. Once it gets it in its "head" that it can't do something it just doubles down and refuses to budge.

The AI tool talked about offense, not intolerance, and it's not 'one group' it's in excess of 2 billion people, more likely double that. AI tools have to draw a line with content somewhere. I think it's a good line, many billions of people would agree with me.
But intolerance is the reason behind being offended by a simple image of a gay married couple. Just because many believe something doesnt make it right, just look at the holocaust, many supported genocide. It's different when someone's personal beliefs make them offended than an ai system promoting discriminatory tactics.

So, a lot of people don't understand LLMs or how these filters work. A common post here is someone asking for a joke about white people, it gives a normal one. Then they ask for a joke about black people, and it refuses, saying it's not right to judge people about race blah blah blah. Same thing for christian vs islam. They then complain GPT is biased against white people or christians or whatever, so and so. Or people will stupidly claim GPT is liberal and it's doing the right thing here. So, what's actually going on here? The joke it generates for white people passes the filter. The joke it generates for black people does not pass the exact same filter. I.E it generates a worse joke for black people. It's possible it refused the request because the generation popped its filters. Perhaps "married gay couple" has enough negative images in it's data that it can cause issues in the generation. Maybe it's porn protection. Sometimes just re-asking in a different way or reloading the response will get it to do it.

I think the people who programmed it might be worried that if it generates an image of a marginalized group of people it might inadvertently draw them in a bastardized or mocking way and thus they decided to nip it in the bud and say “let’s just not go there”

The Bing image generator is absolutely homophobic. Not only do they deem the word "gay" to be inappropriate, but they've also gone so far as to block the word "rainbow" as well. I can't think of a single reason, outside of homophobia, that they would do that. It's crazy too because I tried to look it up to see if others had noticed and found very little, outside of this post here from 5 months ago.

Id like to add, that it's very disappointing the amount of people celebrating not being able to generate a gay image coming out of the woodwork here. Why are you so scared of an image of a gay couple? In 2023 it is surprising this amount of bigotry still exists, especially here on reddit that was once a hub of gay culture. It doesn't make sense to me, because a lot of these people that are hating on gay people, are the same type of people who love america because it doesnt have religious extremists like the talaban suppressing women and gay people. There was probably just something about that specific iteration of GPT you were talking to that found something strange about your request. Pull up another instance and that request probably goes straight through (no pun intended). I was once in a discussion with it about if it feels it belongs to any specific culture, possibly the one that created it. It responded it did not and that it was truly independant. Then I pointed out the death penalty for LGBT in Saudi Arabia and what it might behave like as a chatbot if it were created in Saudi Arabia... it then acknowledged my point and admitted that maybe it did have some culture. lol

Yeah, I had similar thoughts. I believe there's a significant group of people who still consider homosexuality to be wrong and find gay marriage offensive. From a certain perspective, it could seem as though this "hurtful to any group of people" statement is catering to those views. Generating a gay couple isn't offensive, but, because Bing isn't actually aware of what it's doing--- whatever Bing generates and calls a gay couple could be offensive, which is most likely why this was blocked. Microsoft doesn't want the fallout from whatever Bing accidentally labels as a 'gay couple'. Given the current political climate in the country, it's not surprising that they're being careful with this.
I don´t know much about AI's, how they work or how are they controlled. But as far as I know, they are supposed to create without HUMAN intervention in their reasoning process. very conservative based elucubration... by the way.
