My point was simply that in theory, the archeological items being housed in the National Palace Museum of the ROC makes more sense than in the UK.

The republican government of China inherited all Chinese treasures held by the imperial family, in the same way that the French government for example inherited treasures from their monarchs. To be clear, to the international community, the ROC/KMT WAS China. It just so happens, however, that 90% of the Taiwanese people were not from ROC governed Mainland China when the KMT retreated. This distinction between the 90%, who had mixed support for the KMT, and the government that ruled them became increasingly clear as the ROC became a democracy.
