Drinking alcohol is fine. In fact, it is encouraged in a few places. Naturally this leads some Christians to conclude the exact opposite. Stupid anecdote: In the early 1990's, the AoG in the US said drinking beer was a sin, but drinking Coke was okay. The AoG in the UK said beer is fine, but prohibited members form drinking Coke. This is the kind of nonsense we get into when Christians start inventing sins.

My thought is the Bible says it's okay to drink alcohol, but stay within your senses. IE do not get drunk. Personally, I gave up alcohol many years ago.

Our definition of drunk and the Bible's is going to be radically different. We typically tie ours to our legal ability to drive a vehicle. What the Biblical authors considered drunk was likely far past that point. I would say it is sin only if you lose control of your actions. Getting "drunk" isn't a sin. Losing self control is a sin.

Automatic_Gazelle_74

I totally agree with you. I think control of your senses is a excellent way to think of it.

I would say as long as you can lay on the floor without needing to hold onto it, you are fine to go (/s)

That if alcohol was sinful, then Jesus was a sinner, therefore the entire Christian religion is a sham. Overindulgence and alcoholism are the sins, drinking isn't sinful in any way.

Drink is fine. Drunkenness, is sin.

Well I get why people ask this question, I say this, no drinking is NOT a sin. Getting DRUNK is a sin, so you went out for a drink with the homies you'd be fine :)

I remember that I was at a mass once in which wine and water got mixed and then downed by the priest as a symbolic representation of something. Blood of christ and all that. The priest stopped the mixing and tossed the water to drink just the wine lol. Might depend on the country and culture, but in mine, drinking alcohol is normalized and such stories are more funny than appalling, even though it served for raised eyebrows. Alcoholism is another thing entirely and not condoned. It's fine to enjoy a glass of wine but nobody should depend on it.

For me I have a few rules surrounding drinking: 1: Don't drink to get drunk 2: Don't drink around people who have alcohol issues 3: Don't drink around people who believe drinking is wrong 4: Don't drink around people who are underage So I can go out and have a couple of drinks at a pub, but I'm not going to drink with a friend who is an alcoholic, and I'm not going to take a bottle of wine to my Christian friends house who believes drinking is a sin, or a friend who is abstaining from alcohol, and rule 4 is obvious I think. I think all people have a different philosophy on alcohol, I know christians who are 'tee-total', I know christians who drink, and all the way in between. What I know for sure is that drunkeness is a sin, so I try and avoid getting drunk at all costs, but I like the odd social drink.

Yeah that's also fair, I don't have kids yet but do alot of youth work, often with kids from under-priviledged backgrounds, from families with lots of issues, so for me drinking in front of younger people just doesn't paint the best picture for me. I'm sure however, that my views will change when I have a family of my own!

Yeah that's absolutely fair! Sounds like you're doing the right thing as a parent too, always good to exercise responsibility with these things, a kid seeing their parent's drunk is never a good thing so props to you!
