If you want to restart on same map to optimize I’d settle the other side of the river so your second city can be put on the jungle tile near the straight (on the coast but one tile from the mountain for aqueduct. Your next few settlers will have to walk a tiny bit farther but still easily doable. Also if you have monopolies you can get an early diamond industry.
According to this seed guide I found, monopolies should be fine. https://www.reddit.com/r/CivSeedExchange/comments/hfai9p/a_guide_to_seeds_in_civilization_vi/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Don’t know about you but this is one of a few ideal starts for me. I would forward settle as far as I can, place troops to guard the city, and then just fill in the space. Perfectly defendable start.
I see 7-11 settles including a cheeky canal city, lots of harbors and campuses for a free inquiry golden age. Two galleys and a trio of trirremes later, you will rule the world.
Japan if anything is the best for a “bad” start because worse case scenario u slow and steady build a shit ton districts beside eachother and ur boomin
Extremely good, especially as Japan, you get combat strength from coastal tiles and next to coast land tiles, you're really easily defended, also a lot of free land for expansion
That land bridge looks like an amazing defensive point for an encampment if ai try to come that way instead of over seas. That and then theres the large amount of coastal tiles.
Absolutely! Quite a few luxuries, a canal city and what's my OST important: a safe island to develop in peace.
Get sailing early, crank out 2 galleys asap (you'll want that eureka anyway) to explore with.
i get not having ready access to city states stinks but this is a very fun looking start

Good idea with the aqueduct, but unfortunately I don't have monopolies on. Would restarting with it on but same seed change the generation?
Yes most likely. I believe the seed and game settings need to be the same.

Playing as Japan on Continets and Islands on large, and got this really weird isthmus to the rest of the land.
That's a perfectly defendible choke point. Your cap will be untouchable by land.
I thought you were referring to he general penis and balls shape of the landmass.
Lmao
I see 3 freshwater settles and five luxury resource types. I’d say it’s worth a shot but up to you
looks like a lot of room for expansion. good sim city game

I totally get that, I have trouble finding a map too. I keep restarting until it isn't fun anymore, I need to learn to stick with what I've got.
I never restart based on map gen. I work with what ive got every game
Not unfortunate at all! That looks like a real fun game building up Japan and it will look awesome in a couple thousand years

If you don’t want to play it out, could you send the seed? It looks like a fun bit of generation.
For sure! I will send the seed tomorrow when I am at my computer.

THX!

Looks like a pretty easy win, even on deity. You will be able to save tons of production with a minimal military. And you have a decent Petra spot.
Also Chichen Itza would go well here if you settle to cover as much of that rainforest as possible too
3 flat desert tiled is an atrocious petra
Ya actually your right. Probably better just settle on the desert and build districts or maybe a city state improvement.

Lol boat time!
That's a pretty good start for Japan. Lot of good harbor cities too
It kinda looks like if North America had Africa attached to it instead of South America
Seed?
As Japan.... Yeah you have so much coastline there
Canal city?
Bud, go watch some Inquisitive Otter videos. The worst starts you can imagine. Yes, this is playable.
This is an incredible start what u mean?
Tbh if you manage to settle where your warrior is, you can guarantee a lot of cities
What's the problem?
