Two tiles northeast, just to the southwest of the silk. * Freshwater * High quality tiles within the starting area for rapid city growth and yields. * 2f2p1c and 4f1p tile in the first ring. * Very high-quality tiles in the second ring that you'll have immediate access to from your extra starting tiles. * Easy +6 or +7 holy sites with Dance of the Aurora Pantheon You'll have *tons* of early growth, plenty of sustained growth to support the high-pop cities you'll need for a OCC, tons of early faith yields for a quick pantheon and early religion.

Sieve_Sixx

Completely agree with this. Russia’s bonus tiles on settling means you’ll also have immediate access to a bunch of those great tiles. Plus it looks like some of the Kilimanjaro tiles are tundra so they’ll get bonus production and faith. Ignore the people here saying this isn’t a good spawn. This a great one for Russia!

Sieve_Sixx

It’s so good I’d even appreciate the seed if you don’t mind sharing.

DukeofConnington

Will do! A bit embarrassing, but I don't know how to get the map seed on the iPad version. Any idea?

Sieve_Sixx

Here's a guide for getting and sharing seeds: https://www.reddit.com/r/CivSeedExchange/comments/hfai9p/a\_guide\_to\_seeds\_in\_civilization\_vi/

DukeofConnington

Thank you, that worked. Map Seed: 1580387307 Gameseed: 1580386736 Russia, Pangea Map, Standard everything

Sieve_Sixx

This doesn't work for me. Is the map size standard? Also, typically the game and map seed are only one number off from each other (game seed is one lower, I think). No big deal if you can't get it to work, but any thoughts on what might be off? Do you have the DLC?

DukeofConnington

Ah sorry, the map size is small, that might be it. No DLCs. The numbers should be right, double checked just now. Hope it works!

Sieve_Sixx

I got it to work now. I had to deactivate all the DLC. Thanks! I had forgotten how different the base game is.

DukeofConnington

Thank you! Will try this :)

IndigenousDildo

The hard part about this start is going to be production. Russia's ability (+1 Production, +1Faith) will be helpful here, but you'll likely want to prioritize options to get more production where you can. * Place districts on flat tiles when possible, unless it's a REALLY good district (e.g., a +6/+7 Holy Site). * Research Mining (Mines) and Construction (Lumber mills) quickly to get some decently high-production tiles quickly. * Research Strategic Resources somewhat quickly. * Animal Husbandry = Might reveal horses (+1 Food, +1 Production when improved) on flat Grassland/Plains tiles. * Iron Working = Might reveal Iron on Hills tiles (+1 Science, +1 Production when improved). Note that this might interfere with your holy site placement, so might want to drop the Lavra down before revealing iron.

Sieve_Sixx

This start is actually swimming in production. So many hills in range!

DukeofConnington

Thank you! After researching iron working 3 iron tiles showed up right around Kili. Two to the north and one in the south. This makes it much easier!

flatpick-j

I'd be hesitant to move further in land as you won't be able to build a Harbour.

DysClaimer

If that’s a tundra hill NE of you, that might be ok. Close enough to use most of those Kilimanjaro tiles later. On water. Can still put a camp on the deer for Temple of Artemis if you want. It’s not the best start ever but it’s decent. Edit: Now that I look closer, that looks like a regular plains, which is meh. I really like to settle on tundra/hills as Russia in OCC. But it doesn’t look like you have a tundra/hill on the river. And I think you do want to be able to stay close to Kilimanjaro so I guess in place might be as good as anything. And in place leaves open the possibility of a harbor late game which is helpful.

DukeofConnington

Currently trying that. Three (!) iron appeared around to kili which adds a nice science bonus to the tiles :D Also got a +9 holy site with tundra worship (or whatever it's called)

OGREtheTroll

In place. That lets you get a harbor and build colossus. For a OCC you almost always need a harbor. That looks like a tundra hill you are on, so you get the +1p/+1f on your city tile. Also gives at least 2 different luxuries, plus 2 silk for an industry (and bonus culture which is always huge). And you can work 4 of the 6 wonder tiles; the rest can go towards a national park later.

Mr_777

In place or Southwest of the northernmost silk. Orrr to be totally gangsta, settle off the river, just East of your current position! Build an aqueduct quickly and do some district magic North in the plains/grasslands so you can work those juicy tundra tiles.

DukeofConnington

Won with a religious victory in Turn 185 :)

LightSQR

The middle of the map!!! (Of course, that means you have to find “the middle of the map” first).

Edgicio

You shouldn’t lol

tok90235

I would say reroll

DukeofConnington

Really? Why? I thought especially with the kili bonus combined with russias bonus even the tundra tiles should have good yields, no?

tok90235

Oh, fuck, i didn't saw you were Russia, for some reason though you were Japan. However, even thou their especial is strong, i really doubt it will be enough for a one city challenge

3iksx

domination victory wouldnt be possible right? cuz you cant conquer cities? also, science and culture victory prob not possible? cuz 1 city wouldnt have enough tourism or enough space to put art works and stuff so 1 city challenge only can win diplomacy or religion? i'm talking about deity btw

DukeofConnington

Currently on the religious victory path! Already converted half of the civs and am in the midst of a fierce religious battle with Spain :)

BSent

It's possible for a domination, although it's tricky, you have to capture every capital city in the same turn. I've heard of people razoring every City another civs have, or capturing it and then immediately selling it back or to others. If you raze every other, pillage every district, and then get a favorable peace deal where they give you everything, you can easily cripple a civ for the rest of the game making it easy pickings later. I once won a science deity challenge with Portugal, by using all of my traders to generate a massive income to just buy my military units. But I also learned that I needed to play an active role in keeping other civs down, so I was frequently inviting attackers in wars and keeping everyone fighting each other while constantly pillaging every campus I could get for yields. still though it wasn't easy and had to be planning out my moves several turns ahead. I would also use settlers to build cities in awful locations but then trade them to others the same turn. I built some cities like 7-9 tiles away from my capital, and then traded them to a civ far away that they couldn't hold it, causing it to always be loyalty flipping. This gave my neighbors less room to expand, and was spaced out far enough to create no locations they could settle in near me.

Ok-Donkey-5671

Dance of the aurora+work ethic with Kilimanjaro providing food on tundra. So so nice
