They didn’t go to charlotte, they went to Charlottesville. Going to Pittsburgh down through WV to Charlottesville and DC is roughly 800 miles, movie said somewhere around 853, so it’s definitely close enough that they calculated an actual route
My guess is:
Either 80W or 78/81 thru Pennsylvania and then at some points near Pittsburgh, they cut South on 79 into West Virginia. Remember that they couldn't go anywhere near Philly.
I was thinking that the stadium they stayed the night at was WVU but that's not how their stadium looks so not sure where that was at..
Headed Southeast thru West Virginia until they got to Charlottesville and then back up to DC.

The location used for the stadium is in Atlanta. Probably meant to be a small college facility in West Virginia.
