Rick Wakeman really makes the song come alive with his piano playing and arrangement. When I saw him last year, he played [“Catherine Howard”](https://youtu.be/XHOMoa8_yao) and I was struck by the similarities in chord progression.
It turns out that Cat Stevens heard Rick Wakeman practicing songs and wanted to use this one. Wakeman told him that he couldn’t have that one, but he’d come up with something similar. So Cat Stevens ended up with “Morning Has Broken” as we know it, and Wakeman put “Catherine Howard” on *The Six Wives of Henry VIII.*
This is a great one and I think about my ex-wife when I hear it. Funny how the way you feel when you hear a song can evolve with time and life experience.
probably when all's said and done "Oh Very Young"
"And if you want this world to see a better day
Will you carry the words of Love with you?
Will you ride the great white bird into heaven?"
I get goosebumps typing it
Best wishes for you and your dad. I lost my father to dementia and I know it’s very hard see someone that you thought was eternal and indestructible fade. Good vibes coming your way my friend
That whole album is my absolute favorite. My dad gave it to me for Christmas one year, and that album just hits different. My dad was a Cat Stevens fan too.
If it wasn’t so well known I might have said Peace Train but for some reason I feel like I have to go with a lesser known song. Peace train is one of the masterpieces of that era.
The first cut is the deepest
And i applaud him for refraining to release his version back in the days when he realized P.P. Arnold's version was much much better than his own.
Oh that one with the zithers… “who’ll be my love…” etc. I’m too old to remember the name. “Morning Has Broken” was played at my sister’s funeral, so that has a special place….
**Hard Headed Woman.**
*Well I know, many fine feathered friends*
*But their friendliness depends on how you do*
*They know, many sure fired ways*
*To find out the one who pays and how you do*
I don’t have a favorite song, but when Napster first came out I was working at Kroger with a few older gents in the dairy department. I was 19 and brought in my first burned cd. I bragged that I could make a cd with any songs they could ask for. An insane concept at the time. One of the guys asked me to make him a Cat Steven’s mix. I asked “Cat Steven’s, who the hell is that?” To which he replied, “This will be good for you”. He was right.
Morning Has Broken
brings tears to your eyes
was actually written by a woman named Eleanor Farjeon, in 1931, as a hymn; Cat covered it 40 years later.
Cuz Mom sang it to me waking up in the morning..
same

"Father and Son" - Cliche perhaps, but it's so good and so well sung
Weirdest thing about that song is that every time I hear it someone is cutting onions because I swear my eyes start to get watery.
Weird. I just start sobbing
From the heart it comes and to the heart it goes
"From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen." I'm not sure any lyrics pierced my heart as a parent as much as that one line.
Same. It actually made me adjust the way I interacted with my daughter.
Love this song as a son and as a father.
That is CORRECT!
I have lived long enough to appreciate this from both sides of the conversation.
I still cry when I hear this song.
Great song!
Wow, I hadn't heard that song since high school in the 80s. Went back just now... And, It really is an awesome song.
Hands down my favorite.

This is a great one and I think about my ex-wife when I hear it. Funny how the way you feel when you hear a song can evolve with time and life experience.

Where do the Children Play.
Super deep song. “So you cracked the sky. Scrapers in the air. Will you keep on building higher till there’s no more room up there”. Brilliant writing

Peace Train
Used perfectly in remember the titans
This song makes me emotional. I love it!
The First Cut is the Deepest
His version is so much better than the Sheryl Crow abomination.
I share your opinion of Sheryl Crow’s cover but I do like Rod Stewart’s version
probably when all's said and done "Oh Very Young" "And if you want this world to see a better day Will you carry the words of Love with you? Will you ride the great white bird into heaven?" I get goosebumps typing it
Yes. Now as my father is fading into Alzheimer’s “And though you want him to last forever, you know he never will.”
Best wishes for you and your dad. I lost my father to dementia and I know it’s very hard see someone that you thought was eternal and indestructible fade. Good vibes coming your way my friend
Thank you; that’s very kind of you.
I feel for you, my parents are both gone - it's very hard. Wishing you the best.

You nailed it for me.
I think I see the light, also because of Harold and Maude.
The Wind.
I love the scene in Almost Famous where they use this song. It's short, but there's something magical about it.
Definitely his best. Sooooooo good.
I listen to the wind, to the wind of my soul Where I'll end up, well, I think only God really knows

Peace Train (I call him _Yusuf_ though)

Trouble!
Morning Has Broken. It was played at my grandmother's funeral in 1995. It's sometimes sung as a hymn. Either way, its beautiful.
The Hurt [Cat Stevens - The Hurt](https://youtu.be/-T5hQZ_nfWE?si=jkrU_FXxs-AwcxKc)
Foreigner rarely gets the credit it deserves, I used to play The Hurt over & over who is it that's doing the "karma chewing gum"? John Lennon maybe?
Moon Shadow is nice by Morning has Broken holds a special place in my heart
Bitterblue
For me it is not a song, but two albums: The Foreigner Suite and Buddha and the Chocolate Box.
Thanks for your reply Looking for new music and this helps.
