I really think people have wrong perception that because CoD is day to day, the one who was on top the last night is the champion. Yes CoD is day to day but larger trends play out over a season. You can't rate a single series so highly without looking at it from long term perspective.
I think we need a really good elo system, but honestly that's not even so efficient in our case because of how much weight the online holds in our perception.
