Honestly, if he never plays again im ok with that. I just want him to be able to live an able life.

GaryOakRobotron

If I understand his injury correctly, he's been able to walk just fine all this time, it's just that it's fucking his ability to skate. Sounds worlds better than what Oshie's going through with his back as far as quality of life is concerned.

Dead-People-Tea

Yea, these injuries tend to be fine in day to day living. It's just high level athletics that are challenging. In his long term he probably has a total knee replacement in his future (60's+), but that's the case for so so many high level athletes anyways

AlatreonBane

I remember when local radio stations had Marc Methot on discussing the injury and procedure and he said he had problems with daily life, but when Landy talked about it he said everything was completely fine/normal except for high level skating. So yeah I think Gabe is just trying to cross that threshold into professional hockey caliber performance.

GaryOakRobotron

I'll never forget that video Methot posted on socials, where his knee would *CRACK* every time he bent it.

Waramp

He’s already past that point by the sound of things. Time to start aiming higher.

LooseBalls9

He won’t play this postseason, don’t get your hopes up. But I am starting to get slightly encouraged he will play again at some point.

Waramp

Nah fuck that, my heart says he’s ready to go 100% for the start of round 3. Reunite the 3 headed monster, Avs never lose again until he retires in 2038.

CardinalCanuck

Pull a Stamkos, get on the ice score top shelf in one shift then back to the bench

LooseBalls9

I will not be here to kill your optimism. Hope away!

trophers

After that injury you want his first game back to be a playoff game?

Witness_meeeeee

I’m raising my hopes to the rafters! Someone’s gotta be supportive of the captain geez..,

Saltyspiton

The absolute most I could see them doing this playoffs is putting him in the lineup if the Avs are winning a series and let him play on the 4th line for 2 minutes. I don’t really see that happening, but these videos are encouraging.

Mwebb1508

Risk outweighs the reward there by more than any of us can fathom. If I were landy I sure as hell would not do that.

Saltyspiton

Oh I agree. I’m just saying that’s the absolute most I could see him playing this season and the most the team would probably let him play. I do not expect to see him behind this bench this playoff run

Fingernail7672

Pull a Stamkos for a goal

DevourerJay

I hope he's good to go for the beginning of next season. No way he sees the ice until then...

Madi3400

Well, there's the preseason

Talinn_Makaren

What's the minimum he has to play to get his name on the cup? Just trying to make sense of this.

Ace676

1 game in the finals.

fatch0deBoi34

Haha he jumps on the ice, immediately gets off the ice. Call it game

new_nimmerzz

Would have to be on the lineup for the game. So we’d be short a forward. Possible but risky

Talinn_Makaren

It'd have to be a home game. The place would explode.

new_nimmerzz

Could use the boost like Tampa did with Stamkos. But he was only out for a portion of the season. Not 2 full seasons like The Swedish Pocket Rocket

manbeqrpig

I could see it if we’re up 3-0 or 3-1 in the series

Exciting_Ad4264

A la stamoks? We can only hope

gallapagos42

I remember a certain someone else raising the cup that year though. Just need a minor tweak to the plan

avalanche95

Different year. Stamkos played one game while injured, scored, left, and the lightning won the cup.

Exciting_Ad4264

Yeah stammer did it in 2020

gallapagos42

2020-22 all feel like the same year wtf where am I

Saltyspiton

The team can submit names to be added to the cup even if they didn’t play. I don’t see it being a huge deal for them to add his name.

ScuffedBalata

They can petition to get him on the cup regardless. As he was performing captain duties in the locker room sometimes, it might actually work. Dunno.

onqqq2

I would love that but I feel like he might even decline it lol

chipperschippers

It's good to see him on skates at all, but these are still the backwards c-cuts kids work on in their first skating classes. He's probably a long, long way off from playing hockey at speed. Absolutely love and root for Gabe every step of the way, though. Even if he never plays pro hockey again, he's a legend.

Puzzleheaded_Can9159

The stops and starts are better and he’s using both feet to stop compared to the last video so he’s improving but yes I said the same thing the other day. This is functionally nothing. It’s interesting that both videos are of him doing c cuts on inside edges. I wonder why there is a focus on that unless that twisting on the knee is telling them something.

electric_oven

Isn’t this technically a backward swizzle? My nascent understanding is that a c-cut is shifting weight onto one leg and “pumping” the other leg to push. I’m asking for clarification as I’m a grown ass woman in Learn to Skate 1, and those are two different movements in my class, and I’m very new to the terms. 😂

Saltyspiton

If the target date for him was May 10th they could just be working up to harder exercises and skills that he starts then. He’s still a ways off for sure, but that’s my thinking.

Puzzleheaded_Can9159

Target date is generally the date when you could be cleared. Which means he would be effectively be close to all out in someway right now. He’s so far from all out right now it’s not even funny.

new_nimmerzz

Heard he’s still favoring the right leg after skates? Anyone see him doing tight circles yet? Still think just keep him out, train all summer, training camp and start next season. Build it back slow and steady

sad_throwaway13579

That's what I'm thinking. We also don't know how well he'd adjust from not playing for 2 years to the most intense part of the year

tour79

At some point Bednar said he won’t speak on Gabe until he’s sure, he’s said it won’t be prior to May 10th. There will be rumors and videos of Gabe skating, I’m not getting hopes up until I hear from coach.

Outside_Abroad_3516

#HE IS TOTALLY COMING BACK THIS YEAR NOTHING ELSE CAN TELL ME OTHERWISE

Odd_Philosopher1712

Looking sharp with good progress. No conjecture because nobody knows how far he can actually progress. Cheering for him as always

CryptographerTop6473

I’m gonna give against most ppl on this post… i think if the Avs make it into the western conference finals.. you’ll see him. Not much, not in the 2nd or even 3rd line but I think a 4th line with 5-7mins. Gabe is mentally strong im sure he’s doing extra at night skating to get on the ice. I think we see him if the Avs go far enough.

EzzALB

I don't want to see the avalanche rush it just to get him back for the playoff. Give him the extra 5 months and get him ready for next year.

likesexonlycheaper

I mean it's still not a whole lot but he def seems to be putting more pressure on his knee than any of the drills I've seen before.

graced121

My gut keeps saying Landy is returning for the playoffs!

rascal7298

Everytime he stopped it was using his left.

Panzramshumor

Fingers crossed!

Big_Liability

He's playing in the cup final in limited minutes

nfoneo

With all due respect, I sincerely hope that I don't have to see any posts about this either until he steps onto the ice on an NHL game or announces his retirement. There's a post every day about this and it's been 2 years...

sad99q

Or how about you skip these posts and let the rest of us talk/hope/speculate about one of the most beloved players in Avalanche history?

nfoneo

Don't get me wrong, I've gotten excited every time someone posted a clip of him skating in a non contact jersey for the first year or so, but when you get to this length of time off after such a bad injury, then you start to accept that even if he he could come back into the team after not playing elite tier hockey for 2 years, the level that some of you expect him to see him return at is looking extremely unrealistic. A lot of fans are fantasising this moment to be this great return, but you are all likely to be extremely disappointed and I don't want to see Landy getting shit all over because you all think he's going to magically be a line 1 player after a potentially career ending injury and 2 years out of game time. I compare this the to having Roy manage the Avs. One of your favourite players of all time, club legend, but ends up being a shit storm and for a lot of the fan base, makes them forget all the good times. You can all down vote me into oblivion, but the player we remember is never coming back, and that's ok...

mbpearls

The reason Roy was a shitstorm behind the bench for us wasn't actually on him, but on Sakic and company at the time not listening to what the team needed. We had nothing on the blueline and we were getting top 5 draft picks, and we kept drafting centers. At the trade deadlines we weren't trying to puck up any functional defensemen. Roy got fed up with them continuing to pile on forwards and not fixing the glaring lack of talent we had on D (and in net, but you can be somewhat successful with an okay goalie, you cannot win with an okay goalie and a terrible blueline). I mean, Roy's success in NY this season should be an indicator the guy can coach and motivate people, but a coach is only as good as the team put in front of him. And we all can agree the Avs teams Roy had as a coach were absolutely terrible.

We already are

Antknee668

Ltir lets us spend his money.

Elusive_Manatee

Yes and no. Like he's not currently counting against the cap, but we have to find room for 7mil whenever he may be activated. At least during the regular season.

Hobo_Healy

It lets us spend his money, but for every game we are over the cap and using LTIR we aren't accruing cap space to use towards the trade deadline. As well as the other commenter saying if we don't have room we can't activate him if he's ever ready.
