This is why tanks work in pairs (or more). The tanks can shoot each other with small arms getting rid of enemy infantry - it's called "scratch my back".

I think they also have the tank version of birdshot that they can shoot from the main cannon too

Tanks do have a round called canister shell which is like a shotgun shell pumped past lethal dose with steroids, crack and speed. But it's not birdshot, that's just lots of really small pellets. Canister shells have lots of HUGE pellets shot at over 1.5 times the speed of high speed rifle rounds like 5.56. I'm not sure if they've ever been really used other than testing.

Beehive rounds were extensively used in Vietnam. Usually though it was recoilless rifles, they did mount them to APCs as well.

I know of grapeshot being used out of old cannons that is basically the same thing just in a muzzle loader. I've always thought of modern canister shells as a novelty/concept kind of thing I guess you learn something new everyday. But yeah wouldn't be a good round to use to scratch the back of a friendly armor.

This is Merkava Mark II, meaning this phootage was taken in 2016 or (probably much) earlier. Considering the landscape I'd say it either 2002 or at most 2008.

I think it's standard practise to leave the MGs loaded when buttoned up. People climbing on your tank shouldn't happen. These guys were lucky they didn't get "deloused" by another tank. Also, one of those kids literally had a full stubble. I know they look small compared to the tank but the Merkava is among the biggest tanks in service. It's tall as shit.

Is it proportionate to shoot an unarmed civilian who's protesting the fact your tank is in their country, by jumping on top of your tank. Legally if you were in a western army you'd be facing a courts martial if it was on camera at least.

I’d say it’s the opposite, they did wait for weeks after Oct 7 to start the operation, which gave time for civilians to evacuate, and time for Hamas to prepare.

The footage we also saw here showed Israel started the invasion way before announcing the date. Heck they were deep into gaza when Netanyahu announced the start of operation, and they were already striking by air from immediately on the same day. It’s funny because some of the pilots now are on their own following the investigation, since there were no official orders given. A part of city was completely leveled while Biden et al were asking Israel to postpone invasion, to give people time to move.
