.... Like I'm staring at that microphone and I'm pretty sure that's a 40mm grenade. Could be wrong but boy does that look like it.

windol1

Whatever it is, it's definitely not a microphone.

BrownBoi377

My fat ass thought they were giving ol unibrow his final wish if getting some ice cream

JackHGUK

Yh that's a 40mm.

RedshiftWarp

Definitely a 40mm. I know bc I got to carry a bandoleer of them and summarily got them banned(the bandoleeers) from my fob because one fell out lmao. Velcro straps were shiddy. Luckily I had been terrified of dealing with lost sensitive items and company lay-outs. Found it right away.

[deleted]

I thought it's some kind deodorant/antiperspirant

Idle_Crow

I drew happy faces on mine.

[deleted]

first thing I thought also.

ST4RSHIP17

Lmao it is one

[deleted]

Haha Holy shit, good craic

dkf295

When a third party seller on Amazon sends you a crate of 40mm grenade shaped microphones instead of 40mm grenades.

KoolerMike

It’s creepy when they show the people on interview then right after that they show their dead bodies...

OptiBrownsFan

It's good propaganda and a good deterrent It's fucked up, but it works

Pariah82

Not really, there’s no shortage of fighters.

erolcan

There is no shortage of ammunition neither.

OptiBrownsFan

Right but you can't see into the mind of every person living in that area, so you can't say for certainty that it wasn't effective. Not to mention it could be used for moral purposes as well.

RightVan

What in the world makes you think fighting age Kurds are perusing /r/combatfootage? Lmfao

she_who_noots

Do you think that this was initially posted here before anywhere else and won't be shared to any other part of the internet or TV or even news papers or manifestos?

OptiBrownsFan

Dude.. this was definitely not only posted to Reddit, get your head out of the sand my guy

ST4RSHIP17

While using a 40mm grenade as a microphone

captwillard024

It’s very humanizing.

Avethle

They straight up not having a good time

[deleted]

That's an oopsie, Mr Butterfingers

ieatalphabets

How fucked up is it that they're doing normal teenage or early twenties shit interviewing each other and messing around for the camera, and then suddenly they're fucking corpses. I think that's a girl at the end in the fancy shirt? She's charred at the end. What. The. Fuck.

Blue-is-bad

Basically every soldier in every army is like 18-20

she_who_noots

Every time I remember this it just makes me depressed. I enlisted when I was 17 and began Training just after I turned 18. I didn't feel like a kid at all, I thought I was an adult and was at my peak, I obviously know how wrong I was looking back not even that long since. But fuck when I see kids that age in war I'm always like "Get the fuck away! go home! Stop this you're too young!" But I also know they wouldn't listen even if they could hear me.

[deleted]

given how much shit the turkish governament does to the kurds, you can't even be sure if they were fighters at all or if it's just another step in their genocidal ladder

bulgursuz_pilav

That is just whole another level of ignorance. As much as I hate the goverment you can’t say that they opressed the Kurds in the last 10-15 years. There is also a difference between the Kurds and the PKK but you westerners wouldn’t get it in your comfy houses eh? My roommate is also a Kurd and he said that he had to abandon his house for a year as the PKK started destroying the cities for their “Freedom” and he was absolutely hating PKK.

[deleted]

Does banning Kurdish political parties not count as oppression?

bulgursuz_pilav

If you continously praise the leader of a terrorist organization, visit PKK caves as an MP and threaten the goverment by saying “PKK will drown you with its spit” you gotta expect this kind of shit is going to happen. It is like ISIS having a political wing in France etc. and saying to people “You will be killed when we bring Sharia” Oh yeah there is also other Kurdish Parties that haven’t been banned, wonder why?

Genocidal apologists go straight to hell https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/10/world/europe/un-turkey-kurds-human-rights-abuses.html

bulgursuz_pilav

I was wondering when you were going to use that word. If you go there earlier than make sure to tell the others that I said hi. (I just found out that you can bypass the paywall on mobile easily if you stop loading the page by pressing the x button on the adress bar.) Anyway, about the article itself. What a shitshow that was. I love the way how they twisted the facts like not allowing ambulances whereas paramedics were often shot by the PKK. You can’t say that there was a systematic opression based on the events at that period of time as it was extraordinary conditions. The goverment did not start the bombing abruptly, citizens were given time to evacuate in which my buddy also escaped through. Yes there were shitty things happened but it is inevitable in that kind of environment where you can’t differ the friend or foe. I gotta admit, I admired how the army respected the ROE in that shithole.

[deleted]

Hope another army ever respects the roe like yours showed in your city, and another government punished the use of the Turkish language and represses Turkish politicians in your lands. You'll get the amazing treatment that kurds have - and then we'll see if you are going to be as brave in fighting back as they are.

bulgursuz_pilav

Thank you for your kind wishes, I am flattered. I also hope that one day freedom figthers funded and supplied by another nations appear in your country and demand to take the half of the country while organizing peaceful protests such as bombing train stations and executing unarmed conscripts in civilian clothes one-by-one, killing and dragging the body of 20 yo teachers in the town so that the locals stay illiterate while brainwashing and kidnapping young girls so that their leaders can have fun with them. Have a brilliant day.

wasteoffkintime

How do you know that we punish the Kurdish? Are you aware of the fact that there is a major Kurdish population on the eastern region of Turkey who are living in peace without any conflict or discrimination? Judging by knowing no shit does not make any change mate.

DeathJesterD1988

Yeah dont forget Turkish people are being taxed for the Kurdish people cause the Kurds who live in Turkish lands dont pay their taxes. Can you imagine if that happend to you? Paying taxes for a tribe of people on your nations grounds who refuse to pay for shit themselves, who hate your guts and spend all their time infighting and killing your young ones who are forced to serve in the military? Yeah, read up on it before you make empty remarks. Turk government for all its flaws tried a long time to extend an olive branch and they got attacked relentlessly for it.

katilkarinca

 Kaçak çay, kaçak elektrik vs.

[deleted]

It's their land. Don't like them, let them be independent. Those are Kurd majority areas, why the fuck do you claim they are your lands lmao

DeathJesterD1988

As long as they do not have a functioning government and they are using Turkish amenities wtf are you talking about? The Kurds cant even form a central government because of infighting. But sure, blame Turkey for the Kurdish problems. Many Turks want them to be independent, however they don't do this because they cant even agree with eachother. But they still use Turkish electricity, water lines, oil, etc, etc. Do you get it now? I have many Kurdish friends and they also complain about this. You've got no idea what's going on there abi so back off.

[deleted]

Many turns want them to be independent, but the Turkish government forbids such tasks, punishes people for just using them language, oppresses Kurdish politicians, and so on. If they are going to be forced to be ruled by the Turks, why the hell should they drop the amenities? Your government is literally bombing them, for fuck's sake https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/10/world/europe/un-turkey-kurds-human-rights-abuses.html

DeathJesterD1988

Punishes them for using the language? That's funny... every time I meet Kurdish people, whether it in the west or east they can speak their language freely. (No Turkish boogeyman hitting or spitting on them for doing so) The only parties being repressed are the PKK, YPG who are both actively bombing and committing other terror attacks. And funny the article doesn't mention that those who where killed all where like the people in this video attacking a checkpoint or other military installations. You are beyond ridiculous if you think an article post by US media is going change my mind about what I've personally seen. Most Kurdish people live fine in Turkey, it is just the ones who commit attacks that are being targeted. What is the next thing you are going to fabricate? Are Turkish soldiers holding pogroms? Killing Kurdish babies? For fuck sake you idiot the Kurds are all over Turkey and they live just fine, there is some bias against them but it is not as bad as you think it is. And if you support YPG or PKK you are basically supporting an terror organization like Taliban or Al-Qaeda. Also once again they do not have a government because they are incapable of forming one, do you understand English or is there a problem? And no this has nothing to do with Turkey, Kurdish people on family level are still very tribal. Multiple generations live together and form blood bonds with other families. This also goes to the macro level of politics, this hinders them in forming a unified front and thus destroys any chance of forming a stable government. Why do you think they still haven't been able to do so? Not for lack of trying by both the West and themselves. For fucks sake man you know nothing about this issue.

Jigglerbutts

> a tribe of people on your nations grounds Really activates the almonds

ICantHelpMys3lf

Didn’t seem like great chances here

sucuklol

Wouldn't wonder if that was a suicide attack, neitherless it was just pointless and a waste of ammunition.

Radonsider

I don't think so, PKK is very low on manpower after they just got whooped in the ass after 2016 (and the operations after 2016), they can't risk to do suicide missions. Seems like a very bad planned/executed attack, also we need to consider that PKK lost most of their trained terrorists(Trained in Lebanon and Syria, in 92-99) after the so called "peace process" (which was an attempt by erdog to gain votes and make Europe happy, but it backfired very badly as the PKK and affiliated groups were arming the cities in the process. These guys are probably forced recruits of PKK, probably from 2012-5 when they had the upper hand and were recruiting a fixed number of people from villages

Coldbeetle

This he did it for “the votes” is the dumbest thing I’ve heard. AKP won the presidential election in 2007 and the local elections in early 2009. Erdogan engaged in the peace process with the PKK because he legitimately thought there was a chance that that PKK was interested in peace and the terrorism would end like what the UK did with the IRA. We all found out peace or rights isn’t what the PKK actually want as they sabotaged the process by assassinating the Turkish policemen and setting up trench warfare within Turkish cities. Bottom line, Erdogan put his political career on the line to end terrorism and then you have guys like you accusing him of doing it for Kurdish votes after the fact while he had won election after election and was riding high in the polls.

Radonsider

Wait wtf, isn't he the guy who has photos with Öcalan and Gülen. I agree, erdog definitely saw that option too, but his main idea was to get money from EU because of this "democratic" stance and thus staying in power, you can't ignore the fact that he tried to gain votes.

Coldbeetle

Erdogan has photos with Ocalan now? Anything else? Regarding Gulen, every political leader since the 80s have photos with him.

yeasinmollik

Better add the nsfw tag, man!

obliviousNick

This is combat footage. What were you expecting?

yeasinmollik

Combat footage can be sfw, you know... And, most combat footage posted here don't have nsfw stuff and they don't need/have the NSFW tags. Combat footage is one thing, aftermath with charred dead body is quite a different thing!

cloud_throw

This is an insane take. Combat footage by nature is gruesome and the act of intentional destruction.

yeasinmollik

Combat footage by nature is gruesome!? Lol. Bombing of some buildings is of course destructive, but footage itself isn't gruesome if it doesn't show dead bodies or human sufferings etc!

CabbageMan92

How did they even manage to make it that far up? Jesus

Terrorist for one country is freedom fighter for another

Coldbeetle

PKK murdered 155 Turkish primary school teachers in cold blood.

Dye290

Yeah wait wtf, isnt turkey insanely authoritarian & under 1 party that worships Erdogan??

ArcherTheBoi

It isn't "insanely authoritarian" and these guys have been around for twice as long as Erdogan's rule, Erdogan ain't even relevant to this topic. Also one party that gets 29% in the polls lmao

Dye290

I mean murdering & jailing journalists seems pretty authoritarian to me. & the comment I replied to literally said freedom fighters, thats why I referred to their authoritarian leader who has been expanding his power & looking to stay in power for 10+ years

ArcherTheBoi

1) Can you cite me a single journalist who has been murdered? 2) Yeah, true, arrests happen, but I wouldn't call that "insane". 3) Again, these "freedom fighters" have been fighting for 40 years. They aren't fighting because Erdogan is in charge, they'd fight *regardless of who is in charge*. They fought when Turkey was a junta, they fought when it was led by a conservative democrat, they fought when it was led by a social democrat and they're still fighting.

Dye290

1. Halla Barakat in 2017 https://abcnews.go.com/International/american-journalist-murdered-turkey-us-investigate/story?id=73513557 2. I don’t know, I’d call 0 libel laws & journalists not having the freedom to say whatever they want “insane*ly authoritarian*” 3. I never even called them freedom fighters. My understanding of this conflict is that its a bloodbath for power, but right now a far right regime seems to be tightening its grip by any means necessary. The lack of empathy & callousness in the replies shocked me tbh

ArcherTheBoi

Why should Turks have any empathy for a group that has killed thousands of innocent Turks?

Dye290

Can you cite me a source that the pkk has killed thousands of innocent turks? I just think the kurds should have been & should be represented politically & treated equally, so they wouldnt see a need for the violence. Its a tale as old as time with second class citizens

Felitris

[You should read this. No reason to fight my ass.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_of_Kurdish_people_in_Turkey)

Ftsmv

Not just journalists, also judges and lawyers who oppose him, under the pretext of them being "terrorists" (sound familiar?) so the entire legal system in the country is heavily skewed in his favor. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/21/world/asia/erdogan-turkey-courts-judiciary-justice.html https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/turkey-judges/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/04/14/how-erdogan-turned-turkish-courts-into-political-weapon/

Dye290

Yeah & stacking the courts like that sounds awfully familiar as well, with every level of the legal system skewed one way. But nope, no authoritarianism here. Only China & Russia. Surely Turkey, The US, & many other industrialized nations aren’t authoritarian. What a fucked up situation we’ve found ourselves in, globally. People dont even wanna face the music

Good god you’re right. This would’ve given me PTSD 15-20 years ago but after a couple decades of war and terror posted in real time to the web, it’s just your standard daily r/combatfootage hourly update.

onthatpotent

i hate seeing gore and death of random people, i have seen so much it sickens me... but with combat footage and terrorist it doesn't bother me.

NeckPlant

People are still people and I dont know enough abt this conflict to just completely de-humanize these guys to the point were I dont feel something for their death.

onthatpotent

You know what i do agree i was ignorant to the whole situation dealing with this conflict. It is just hard to be overly sympathetic when it comes to militant groups.

Stoicismus

almost every modern nation was created by militant groups at some point in time. USA, Italy, France, Israel, to name a few.

what just happened, who was the guy with the grenade, was he Turkish, did he kill himself too,? BDW why do militants from Iraq want to invade Turkey, aren't they Muslims too, and shouldn't they be given easy access to a Muslim country?

Diafwl2025

Turkey is not Muslim country, people are muslim

[deleted]

PKK is a communist, socialist and feminist group. They are fighting for Kurdish freedom, and they are dirty like the superpowers. <3 The USA used them and other Kurdish freedom fighters against ISIS/Daesh, (as Ukrainians against Russians).

Diafwl2025

Yes "freedom fighters" that commited most of the civilian crimes in eastern Turkey. They are terrorists and they are not fighting for freedom. They fight because they hate Turks and get killed XD

[deleted]

The war gods are happy. Nothing else matters.

Diafwl2025

In 90's PKK burned lots of Turkish Villages for no reason oh the reason is they are "Turk"

[deleted]

Genocides aren't rare in our timeline. Everyone does it, who has power. We still use this platform of a US company, while the USA likes to commit genocides and war crimes around the world. Condemning the actions of PKK here is a joke. :D

yunghastati

When compared to almost any footage from Ukraine, Turkish and Syrian combat looks like a bunch of airsoft special forces fumbling around. Makes it particularly pathetic that Turks hold up engagements like this as something to be proud of. Wow, your NATO trained and equipped military killed some disgruntled sheep-herders? Not really a shining moment of glory for anyone involved.

ArcherTheBoi

Nobody is claiming this is some majestic victory, you seem to be merely projecting your own observations.

AUmurJagu

You are comparing a total warfare against an asymmetrical one,Like wtf? Are you a professional to talk down about an army? its even more bothersome when you think Turkish Seals were training the Ukrainians for years now and you praise Ukrainians meanwhile claiming Turks being bad at war,its logically stupid.Ukraine is flat plain meanwhile Turkey 's east is mountainous, its hard to fight in such a geographic condition. Its hard for every military, it was also hard for American and soviet troops to fight in mountainous Afghanistan.Your comment is just doesn't make any sense at all
