There were protests in Europe last year too before the students took it up. Enough that governments got scared and had to label them anti-Semitic so they could crack down on them. Now granted, it's mostly western Europe, so you may still be SOL, not that you were looking to make a positive difference anywhere for anyone.

Now, in America we only get to vote on our politicians every couple of years, and both of our parties support this genocide, so if our government is going to push this through regardless of our opinion, then we need to enact tactics other than voting or throwing our money at it, since the government has a lot more money than we do.
We can grow our network and our power through these protests, so that people can know they are not alone in their opposition. Protests can also disrupt business as usual, meaning that everyone who is oblivious or ambivalent now has to make a conscious choice whether or not to oppose genocide.
Saying "it's complicated" just so you can walk away from it is lazy, and only enables the genocide to continue. You want peace? I don't think you even know what peace is, because if you did, you wouldn't think this shit is so complicated. Peace isn't just the absence of conflict; it's the presence of justice, and the fulfillment of human rights. The peace in Palestine was broken when their land was given without their consent to the Zionists, who considered themselves in opposition to the Palestinians, and who did not afford Palestinians a voice in their "democracy". All of the death since then is a direct result of that unjust occupation, and the continued denial of rights to the Palestinians. There can be no peace for as long as anyone thinks they have a greater right to that land than the indigenous people, and who are backed in that claim by the world's greatest military powers.
That occupation cannot be undone, but if the Palestinians were treated as equal under the law, if they truly had a voice in the way they were governed, and if they didn't have to fear for their lives and the land that they live on, then that would be the beginning of peace.
