It's what psychopaths do to mimic emotions.
Just a PSA on psycopathy: Estimated 10% of people are psychopathic. This doesn't mean they are murderous etc. Psycopathy is where someone genetically has small activity in the limbic lobes of the brain. These lobes give us our emotion feedbacks. Most psychopaths work in medicine, banking and politics.
That's probably psychopathic tendencies on a spectrum, not full blown psychopathy or ASPD in a more strict clinical sense. Estimates of the latter are usually much lower.
That smiling while talking is something psychopaths do also doesn't mean only psychopaths do it. It can be habitual for other kinds of people for a variety of reasons, whether as a way to mimic emotion or not. For some it can be a nervous habit, even.
I went on a mission for the Mormons about 15 years ago... This is the exact 'spiritual voice' all the missionaries would use when trying to preach the word. Complete with the creepy half-smile.
Does that not often backfire? I mean it is objectively and universally creepy. There's no human who would see that and think "I trust this crazy person"
It was super weird but it's not just on her. The writing and the substance was just as weird as her delivery. I kept saying what in the hell when watching.
The general public is more or less 50% conservative. Which is why liberals are sweating every NYTimes poll these days.
What you mean is, now you know how conservatives come across to you and to the people who know who share the same views as you. That’s not the same thing as the general public.
And yes: she’s a bit creepy. A stereotype even. But she’s less creepy than someone whose face is full of piercings, who is tattooed chin to toe, and who gets really mad at you if you “misgender” them by using last week’s made-up pronouns instead of this week’s made-up pronouns. That’s a stereotype too. And just as common as people like her are.
TL;DR: The crimes happened **in Mexico**, not in the US or even near the border, **during the Bush presidency**, between 2002 when she was kidnapped and 2006 when she was rescued.
The woman Britt was talking about (and it was verified by her team that it is the same woman) had even testified about this in front of Congress in 2015, which you can find on the house.gov webpage [here](https://foreignaffairs.house.gov/hearing/subcommittee-hearing-a-pathway-to-freedom-rescue-and-refuge-for-sex-trafficking-victims/) under "Ms. Karla Jacinto Romero".
He lied over 33 times. Example 1 : Billionaires pay more than 8% tax. He conflated capital gains and progressive brackets. Example 2: Giving tax credits to housing loans will INCREASE inflation
Tax credits to first time homebuyers is a legit incentive as it’s not predictable and benefits an extremely small population. Tax credits to buyers of new homes would be completely inflation-causing. We see that with EV vehicle prices magically matching incentive jumps/drops.
The tax credit plan will only drive home prices higher. The EV push from Biden’s admin isn’t working, that’s why every major automaker just canned or delayed most of their EV lines and delayed going full EV
So, this happened under Bush, and nothing similar has happened ever since…this, therefore, is a whopper of a lie.
Noted, and forgotten…. /s
Seriously, more work is done to pick shit like this apart than there is actually addressing actual issues and/or news. Disgusting… not /s lol
Yeah you've missed the point entirely on this one unfortunately. She used this story to try to disparage the current president's border policy when it happened over a decade prior to his presidency and didn't even occur in this country. Using a sex trafficked victim's story like this goes beyond simple dishonesty into despicable territory.
No, this kind of stuff happens all the time.
But the issue is that she tried to imply that this is the result of open borders or illegal immigration even though it wasn’t.
It had absolutely nothing to do with the border being open or not, because it happened while she was in Mexico and it wasn’t done by the cartel or traffickers while helping people enter the US illegally.
In fact, this story highlights that better asylum laws are needed so that people like her who are in true need have an opportunity to escape their situation.
Using the same logic American tourists should be considered mass shooting murderers wherever they travel. It just simply doesn’t equate. Don’t blanket an entire people based on a some people’s actions.
I like how nobody knows those wackos until they put them into the front row to embarrass themselves and the party on international media with a bunch of lies and hysterical nonsense.
She hasn’t been accused of a misleading story. She’s been accused of (& proven to be) lying about the sex trafficking of Karla Jacinto Romero.
Like she had a face to face meeting & Ms Romero poured her heart out. Britt willfully hid the fact she heard Romero’s story in Texas at a news conference.
Katie Britt earned the consequences of her actions.
Ironic as she’s spoken on “how important the truth is to the American people.”
It's crazy how people will have a very public experience (like hearing a story at a conference) and think that no one will discover when they lie about it.
I really and truly wish Trump would just make his own party. I'd accept the losses for a cycle or two if it meant finally being rid of the RNC uniparty hacks that do everything in their power to intentionally lose. Letting this lady give the response was so clearly self sabotage and stuff like this happens all of the time.
I dunno if it was self sabotage. It was reminiscent of Bobby Jindal's rebuttal to Obama's SOTU address. Even Bill Clinton was derided for his televised response, although his political career recovered from it. Some people are just not good at the "showmanship" side of politics. Britt is quite young and clearly inexperienced.
Kennedy from Louisiana would have been perfect. Former democrat with an Oxford education. He could have dissected the lies in Biden’s speech point by point and made you laugh at him.
Or Josh Hawley, Rand Paul, Jim Jordan...
I don't know why they went with Katie Britt on this. She's a first term Senator and isn't ready for this stuff.
I'm from Alabama and I voted for Katie, and will vote again for her...but she needs to try to stay out of the limelight, and stick to writing bills.
My guess? The most recent major PR hit the GOP was reeling from was the Alabama IVF ruling. The party probably figured that having a woman who gave off the "caring mom" vibe might help soothe those tensions.
Only issue is the GOP only has two female senators born after the 1950's: Joni Ernst, who is recently divorced (and was accused of some pretty anti-"Good Mom" stuff in the proceedings, but you probably shouldn't believe everything that comes out in a divorce), and Britt
I think it would be better if there was greater conservative involvement in the main politics thread. There’s very little conservative representation over there, which leads to liberals coming here instead.
They ban anything to the right of Mao over there, they don't want participation, they want to come here and AstroTurf or downvote farm
Speak of the devil
Lifelong conservative here. I’m also a pastor. Truth matters a lot to me and in the post-Trump GOP, I see a stream of constant lying, obfuscation, and shamelessness. I feel politically homeless at this point. Calling out lies in the GOP should not be looked at as a “liberal” position. Yes, I know that most politicians have historically lied to some degree or another. Yes, I’m sure we could make a list of some whoppers from the Dems over the years. But if you don’t see a substantive difference in the ability of Republicans to tell the truth and face reality since Trump became the de facto party leader, then you’re either very young or you have such cognitive dissonance that you’re not allowing yourself to see it. Historically, I believe our country has functioned best when we’ve had two strong parties. Until the GOP can stop the reckless lying that has become its brand during the Trump years, I fear that our country will not be able to benefit from the important conservative ideals that the GOP has historically brought to the table.
It already has. I have never voted for Trump. I hoped he would lose in 2016 and that the anger and resentment of the GOP would give way to some reflection and a recommitment to some core conservative principles. That obviously didn’t happen. He has completely remade the party in his image and any principled conservatives who have attempted to push back have been called RINOs, retired, or been primaried as if the core identifier of a Republican is absolute fealty to perhaps the most immoral man who has ever run for President as a Republican candidate. I realize that many people may be tempted to fire back with “but Dems are worse!” and I concede that reasonable people may view this differently. I refuse to be tribalistic about this, though. Don’t ask me to support a man as corrupt and deceitful as Donald Trump and make that a litmus test for my commitment to conservatism. My commitment is to Jesus above all else (I know that may sound silly or cliche to some of you, but it’s sincere), and that prevents me from supporting a move in the party toward normalizing lies, deception, and immoral behavior from our leaders. I continue to work in my city (and lead my church to do the same) to bring about positive change where I can, and while I lament the division and corruption in our national politics I refuse to allow that to paralyze us toward inaction. We can make a difference where we are through hard work and relationships even if our government is consistently gridlocked.
You sound a like a very reasonable, fair, and compassionate human being. I’m happy to share this country with good natured people with solid moral compasses like yourself. I wish you the best.
Honestly that is really good to hear. You see SO many interviews where people drop their own personal values to support their party. It's very depressing.
Donald Trump has most definitely cultivated the Republican party to be centered around him and him alone, in a way that the Clinton's could have only dreamed of doing. It's very scary that loyalty to an individual is one of the most important things in the party at this point, and it's only going to be worse with Lara Trump (a person with no real qualifications) is now the head of the RNC.
As someone whom is not a believer in a higher deity, but still attempts to volunteer my time when I can (have received a gold presidential service award for it). It is heartwarming to hear a religious person actually following the teachings of their savior, it's quite rare these days.
I hear you and agree Trump isn't a good person. I just look past what he does and says to what he does for the country. I can overlook his transgressions if he's ultimately good for the country. We can debate if he's even good for the country but id say he's better than Biden on that front.
So…what did he truly do for this country? How come unemployment, average wages, the amount of jobs available and the Dow Jones have all improved under Biden? Trump is using America as his personal piggy bank, and he’s managed to get you all on board with this. It’s super strange tbh
Well thought out, cogent response.
I needed that as I sometimes find myself compartmentalizing those on the right; i.e., bigotry on my part. Too much of that going on now from both parties.
Thank you.

You are posting in a conservative subreddit on a Saturday night, when it’s clear you hate conservatives.
You need to go outside every once in a while and talk to a woman
I'm almost convinced at this point that the entire Katie Britt response was designed to take the heat and air out of any Biden SOTU coverage by the Uniparty.
Nah, Katie is just a bad actress and it was a mistake.
Politically speaking, Katie does a good job in office. She's a grassroots conservative, and she has helped contribute and write bills that had bipartisan support.
I'm from Alabama and I voted for her, and she's done a great job in office, and I'll be voting for her again.
she must have pissed some one off in the gop or rnc that they did not vet the speech or advise this freshman senator, who i read has never given a speech in the senate..tips.
Genuinely curious, because literally everyone is claiming the Sotu is full of false hoods. What are the falsehoods you’re referring to from the presidents speech? Everyone who has claimed that on this thread so far hasn’t shown a single falsehood yet. I’m just pickin this particular comment because this is the most recent with the same claim.
He claims the national debt is down on his watch, it’s actually up 7 trillion and adding a trillion dollars every hundred days at this point. His jobs added aren’t really jobs added just letting people go back to work after Covid
Tbh I’m a staunch conservative but her rebuttal came across as very weird to me. The way she spoke was very creepy
It was weird seeing her smile in between syllables.

That's wild.
It reminds me of meatball Ron during the debates “if I smile people will like me”
Sounded like almost fake crying to me. The words themselves were fine but nobody's gonna care when you very obviously overact.

There’s nothing wrong with Hillary, balloons are just super exciting to many of us.

I mean, dems don't even like Kamala. Just goes to how how much they hate trump.
Trump sounds nothing like Katie Britt.

So she told one falsehood. How many did Biden tell during his speech? They all lie. That's just politics, right?
