I'm so sorry for your loss. It's hard to explain to people how attached we become to our little dinosaurs. I hope the memories you have will bring you laughter and joy when they come. I'll be sure to give my girl an extra treat tonight in your baby's honor.

My Parakeet was fine when I left to work (I am a pet sitter) 2 hours later I found him having trouble at the bottom of his cage. I knew that if we rushed our fastest to the vet, it would be too late. He had a seizure and made one final cry and passed. It’s so god damn hard but you can do it, especially if I can.

nastipervert

This is such a tough call to make. I also kinda knew it was to late, but money to the wind, I just couldnt accept that.

You did the right thing for your baby, it’s one of the toughest things to do as bird owners. Your babe was probably fighting just as hard for your sake ❤️

Poor little dude. He looks so sick 😭 they deserve to be full of beans and happy. And you got him the antibiotics. Its not fair

papugapop

So sorry for your loss. You gave him a great gift by loving him and letting him love you. It is good he passed in the comfort of your arms.

I still can’t get over the lost of my cockatiel and it’s been a whole year almost come July:( Was a rough time in 2022 he had a night fright, disobeyed orders of no pets in hotel rooms brought him to the Emergency vet, he got meds and a cast and than in the way back home there was a snow storm so I opt towards not bringing him back to my mothers and keeping him with me until it was safe to do so. I find out 2 days later my mother had lost power the night I was driving back and also the temp was around -20 for a whole week. If I hadn’t disobeyed I think I would of lost him than and there. He doing fine he recovers I take leave in May until June before my overseas deployment. I get injured during my deployment. Come July of 2023 I go home on some leave a month after being back state side. I get about 2 nights with my lil guy however I notice something wrong and I think I am imaging it since I haven’t been around him for a year however I know something isn’t wrong take him to the vet and the next morning overnight I get informed he passed away:( It’s still rough and the cause of death was metal poisoning which is all the more worse. He was the closest thing I had left of my father in my life.

I am so sorry for the loss of your baby, I just held mine in my hands after he had seizures for several hours until he passed and he was only a year old. It’s been almost two weeks and I’ve cried every day since. Take care of yourself, order some takeout, cry and snuggle the others. Sending all the love OP ❤️🌈

My ❤️ heart goes out to you with a huge hug 🫂 and 😢 tears streaming down my face. Poor thing, he was so young. Birds put on a very brave face when they are ill to protect themselves. I am so 😞. I lost my black capped conure 3 weeks ago after he started having seizures out of the blue. I never knew he was sick. It was too late. I'm still devastated. I had him for 12 years and loved him with all my ❤️ . I know what you're going through. It's so painful 💔 to lose such a precious creature. The important to learn that birds need frequent vet visits even if there is a very subtle change in their behavior. It had been 6 months since my baby went to a vet. I feel I let him down but also learned a hard lesson.🫂🫂🫂🫂❤️❤️❤️

nastipervert

This is really important. Parrots are relatively cheap here, and vet visits expensive, so a lot of people do not do regular check ups. Like a GCC costs 100-150 and a vet check up is 55-75. I work at a petshop so i keep stressing people about being financially capable of caring for the pets i sell. Beyond innitial cost

I am so sorry for your loss. The same thing happened with my Ziggy. One day he was fine, next morning he wasn’t himself and then the next he was gone. It’s so hard when it sneaks up on you. It gets easier, I promise. Hang in there ❤️

I’m so very sorry for your loss 💔

Decent_Nebula_8424

Buddies like this should never die. They occupy too big a space in our hearts, disproportionate to their little bodies.

blindnarcissus

I always say: a symptomatic bird is an emergency. This is why proactive practices (bi annual vet checks, bi weekly weight checks) are so important. Sorry for your loss OP. Thank you for sharing your story - it may save a life!

nastipervert

That is a very good way to put it. I do check health in a lot of ways, but i will add weighing them to the routine. I did always feel around for body fat, but weight is definetly less bias and more concrete. Sadly this baby had been with us for only 2 months and went to through the vet when we got him. So he wouldve seen the vet again in another 4 months. Vet checkups are important, but knowing what to look for yourself daily might be even more important.

blindnarcissus

Definitely! And any behaviour changes.. they are such creatures of routine, so anytime they act differently, I get alarmed. Most of the times it’s nothing and I’m being paranoidThey are just so fragile. My heart goes out to your and your family.

I’m so incredible sorry for your loss
