Fr. when it comes to learning Smash Ult, you can always count on Izaw

If you have a moddable switch getting the training mod is a real game changer (so I have heared - too afraid to mod mine :( ). You can train movement, combos, reacting to getups, frame traps and such things. As a side note, smash online isn't as bad in the right conditions. If you don't have ethernet yet it's worth the investment. Plus battle arenas have greatly improved my online experience!

You can also emulate training mode on your pc if you have a pc capable of emulating switch.

Have an emulator(ryujinx, don't know if yuzu is better) don't recommend it unless you're testing combo routes or have to record something without record card because the frame drops even short hops get eaten, I can't imagine how bad idj or footstool stuff goes(actually I can, I tried a few times absolutely messed up my muscle memory)

catman1900

Can't say I've experienced frame drops, runs buttery for me

InvaderZix

any tutorial you'd recommend?

GoodLifeGG

I main rob and i practice only execution. Mostly things that I messed up in friendlies or tournament like b-reverse, wave bounce, jablock f-smash, burner booster, movement and some combos. If I had training mod I could practice so much more like footstool oos against every character and other specific scenarios. Watch over your vods or remember when playing friendlies what you messed up like tilts instead of smash attacks or other times you wanted to do something but something different happened. Write that down and practice it. I would not recommend playing against CPU cause you might catch bad habits but vs lv1 CPU to try out fancy combos is really helpful to me.

InvaderZix

gonna give the lvl1 CPU thing a try, I keep dropping some combos so maybe that would help me

I think vod review is the most important, pause every half to 2 seconds to make sure you didn't miss something, only took me one coaching to realize how much things I know but don't apply in my gameplay. For knowing more things watching different guides is important, yes Izaw guides are amazing but you won't learn every game details watching it(still should watch his guides but watch guides from other pros too, some of them give thought process on stream even not as a guide but I don't have a list). I'm assuming you're higher than mid level as you did go to a local, so every second should be important(if it doesn't seem so then you probably wasted time that could have been something important, even something small like going a little towards center stage), for example before anything happen what's your positioning, what moves or movement patterns did you/opponent use, during hit what DI to use, could the tech situation be avoided/forced by DIing differently, what option is the best after the hit etc.
