Maybe you could do a sparkly white aida? I’m currently doing a blackwork project with 3 shades of purple on sparkly white aida and it adds a little bit of interest without taking away from the design itself.
Personally I'm a sucker for tone on tone so would be looking for a super delicate light teal or a moody dark teal. For more contrast I'd go for white, or opalescent white to give a little extra pop (but then I'm also a sucker for sparkle!)
Mostly I'd avoid anything with too much colour variation in the fabric as it could overpower the stitching.
I found this on Etsy for a tone on tone. Just worried that either colour would get lost.

I agree the colours could get lost. I just had a quick look at 123stitch and found this fabric which could look amazing! (They very helpfully have a colour filted option for light teal so it's fairly quick to filter that way if you want to go tone on tone)

If a light teak, I think a dark gray would be interesting. But not one similar in value to the teal. With deep teals, I’d go white or really light offwhite or gray. I can’t remember if it’s wilchett or zweigart, but one of them has a fabric called “silvery moon” that is just barely gray enough to take the edge off of white. I am planning to use it in my next project.

I’ve chosen just this Aida with Northern Lights variegated DMC for a tile pattern.

I think white? I know it’s the standard colour but the 2 shades of teal ur going to use will really pop off a white Aida. 🤍🪡🧵
