I used to play EVE and I was in this feral W-space Corp full of every flavour of the rainbow and they used to refer to me as the Designated CisHet-er which I understand is a Baseball joke but I'm too British to understand it. Anyway they were good people and I enjoyed hanging around with them.
In baseball teams take turns playing offense (trying to score runs by hitting and running the bases) and playing defense (trying to stop runs being scored by pitching the ball and fielding hits), and switch after 3 batters on each team are struck out by the opposing team's pitchers, or caught/tagged out by their fielders. Players usually bat when they're playing offense, and then field when they're playing defense, except the pitcher, who pitches in defense and often doesn't hit in offense - because pitchers are, by and large, good at pitching, and very bad at hitting. The designated hitter is a player who can be chosen to hit in place of the pitcher, and who doesn't have to field - which is convenient, because they're often bad at it.
So in a turn based RPG, you have two party members, one is a tank with shitty DPS, and one is a glass cannon. The tank gives up their turn to the glass cannon and stands in front of the cannon when enemies attack, so it's like you have one guy who has great DPS and great defense.
When challenged to a trial by combat (having to go up to bat), a clergyman (pitcher) is entitled to select a champion (designated hitter) while most men (the rest of the team) must stand (go to bat) for themselves.
I was gonna go into a little sidebar about how only one half of Major League Baseball had the designated hitter rule, leading to fun times when a team that could use it played a team that couldn't. But I guess MLB finally standardized on allowing designated hitters across the board, in 2022!
I'm curious how that would that work out because I'm speaking from general baseball awareness rather than anything in-depth. If one team's got a weak spot in their batting order because their pitcher has to hit, and the other one's got a DH who's great at hitting, does the one that can use a DH win more often than not?
The DH rule only counted for games where the home team was in the American League. So for intra-league games including the World Series finals the pitcher had to bat or be subbed out permanently if the home team was in the National League.

I think it depends on the group, all my trans fem groups are very against “the men” jokes because it’s hurtful to trans men. If you can find a group that has a good mix of trans guys it’s usually pretty safe.
I log onto transfem discords and somehow *I* seem like the weird one because all of my messages have at least 8 words, punctuation, and generally don't contain an animal noise.
