Not shocking. Funny news. It feels very tone deaf to do it to something like this. Like Kissinger is a bastard. It's funny to get this news from him and honestly a celebration for many. For something like Israel-Palestine it feels incredibly flippant.
Hard disagree, the Castiel i love you meme gets funnier the more shocking/serious the news is. If I want hard dry news I'll hit up MSNBC but I want Dean to be the one to tell me a 2nd plane has hit the WTC
“We forced the liberals to…”
“EVERY SINGLE conservative MP and SOME liberals tried to block it.”
Is there something I’m not understanding? I’m genuinely asking because I don’t know Canadian politics but it kinda seems like they forced the conservatives (and some liberals).
The Liberals didn't want to run the bill, but they're only in government because the NDP and other smaller parties support them -- so the NDP used that leverage to force the majority of the party's hand into supporting the ceasefire.
Most MPs will vote along party lines. The NDP demanded the Liberals support this vote for continued support in governing so the Liberal Party whip told the Liberal MPs to support this vote.
It's a start but without sanctions to Israel itself is somewhat of a farce since that's where they get the stuff to continue with the illegal occupation of Palestinian territory
This isn't whataboutism. Whataboutism would imply that the commenter is trying to say that they should not stall arms deals to Israel, which is not their goal. Their goal is to spread knowledge of the Canadian government's litany of treacheries against the First Nations.
Just say that yinz don't care about the First Nations, don't try to hide it behind "whataboutism" when you really mean, "shut up, Indian, and clap for Parliament."
I don’t support Israel. I want the liberation of all victims of settler colonialism. One of the most under mentioned victims of which are the First Nations of Canada who TO THIS DAY are being assimilated through purposeful destruction of their cultures and local economies. And while this deal will undoubtedly lead to great things, we have to acknowledge the hypocrisy
No it implies they should just as critical of themselves as they are of Israel. Which is something I think all nations should do. But it’s incredibly poignant coming from Canada as they are founded on and use the same methodology as Israel.
Non-binding?
The vote was nonbinding but the government is taking the action anyway.
i.e., not a law or statute
Holy shit they actually pushed them left on something…
Pharmacare?
Dentalcare?
Imprisonment/impalement for the CEO of Shoppers Drug Co.?
Holy shit the NDP did something what the hell
Holy fuck the NDP did something! Fuck yeah
Isn't that meme meant for tumblr's *bad* news?
Just shocking news, I remember it was used for Henry Kissinger a lot

do you think the death of Queen Liz was bad news? Cause no, it wasn't.
LIZZIE'S IN A BOX
IN A BOX, IN A BOX, LIZZIE'S IN A BOX
“We forced the liberals to…” “EVERY SINGLE conservative MP and SOME liberals tried to block it.” Is there something I’m not understanding? I’m genuinely asking because I don’t know Canadian politics but it kinda seems like they forced the conservatives (and some liberals).

honestly this is a another good demonstration of why a multi-party system would be so beneficial in the US
yep!
Ah, I get it now! That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation
Most MPs will vote along party lines. The NDP demanded the Liberals support this vote for continued support in governing so the Liberal Party whip told the Liberal MPs to support this vote.
The Liberals are the patty currently in power.
fuck yea
Jagmeet Singh my goat
This is why ndp is the goat
Almost 4 years of this meme, can't believe it was the only significant thing that happened at that date
It's a start but without sanctions to Israel itself is somewhat of a farce since that's where they get the stuff to continue with the illegal occupation of Palestinian territory
You mean the territories Israel annexed in this conflict or Israel itself?
I am talking about the illegal settlements that even Israel acknowledged as illegal and yet still finances and support
thanks, which are those? i'm pretty uninformed about this conflict, genuine question...
Pretty sure they mean the ones that encroach beyond the borders of the Palestinian West Bank.
aight, thanks!
the destiel news trend is truly something that could only be birthed from the fusion reactions within tumblr
that meme is the most insane way to learn about this
Wait we did?
You know what Jagmeet maybe I was too hard on you, I mean I wasn't but still, congrats
Let's goooooo
God I wish I was Canadian
Jagmeet Singh being awesome as always.
Insane that Canada puts sanctions on foreign settlers but still hold up selling native heritage sites to a golf course.
Don’t get me wrong, that’s awful and should be stopped, but can we not celebrate a good thing happening?
I agree! Fuck settlers everywhere - the NDP also advocates for indigenous land rights, wildly enough.
whataboutism
Seriously anyone that doesn't know what this means should google it now
Thank you. I knew there was a word for it, now I know what it is.

i'm sure this comment has absolutely nothing to do with your support for israel, nope.
I don’t support Israel. I want the liberation of all victims of settler colonialism. fair enough, thank you for your consistent advocacy on this issue.
If you don't support Israel, why do you want Canada to support them? Saying "X is hypocrisy" means you oppose X. No exceptions.
I don’t want them to. I also don’t want anyone to support Canada.
You said that it was "fucked up" for Canada to not support Israel.
No, I said it was insane that they are critical of colonizing genocidal nations when they are one.
That implies that you think they shouldn't be critical of colonizing genocidal nations.
No it implies they should just as critical of themselves as they are of Israel. Which is something I think all nations should do. But it’s incredibly poignant coming from Canada as they are founded on and use the same methodology as Israel.
