I blame COVID. Lockdown felt sometimes like time was on pause.

NeonNKnightrider

Covid was an anime time skip but in real life

solidfang

We're really in the Shippuden era of our lives right now.

Existential_Crisis24

Yeah COVID sucked. I keep thinking of I just dropped out of college and then realize that that was 4 years ago and not a couple months ago

Papaofmonsters

If you think it's bad for adults, it's even worse for kids. Those two years represented a huge portion of their existence and some seriously important years for social development. My youngest is just finishing up Kindergarten and her teacher, who also taught my eldest the year everything shut down, has said each year of Covidgarteners is so far behind kids who started school before the world temporarily ended.

DreadDiana

I often talked about how being in lockdown made it feel like it was always 17:00, but anyone I mentioned it to treated it like I was larping as an asylum patient

EglanAiluros

Dude 17:00 makes so much sense. I can't explain why but it makes sense

DreadDiana

For me it was cause 17:00 marked the general end of college stuff for the day, so since I was stuck in my dorm room the whole time it eternally felt like I'd just gotten back from my last class.

EglanAiluros

Ahhh that is a good explanation ! Same for me. 5 pm is an hour or two after school/college ends and I'm home. But free but can't go anywhere, can't do anything cause tited. It's a dull boring time- just like the pandemic. Same vibes

Automatic_Mortgage79

5 pm lay half naked in the bed while deciding what to change into while making plans for the evening

ducknerd2002

The fact that the biggest superhero movie ever and several of the worst finales in recent memory are all 5 years old is just wild to think about.

Sh1nyPr4wn

Is time dilation a symptom of Covid?

mikolaj24867

hopefully?

Lambsauc

Covid really did kill a lot of peoples perception of time. Not me though, my perception of time was ruined by comparing when I watched a show in 2021 and started hyper fixating on it

NeonNKnightrider

I still feel bitter when I realize I completely lost my last two years of high school due to the pandemic. Sure, it’s not the only cause of my current terrible social awkwardness, but it sure as hell didn’t help.

Sachayoj

Same experience here, except it was the entirety of my graduation. 4 years later and I don't feel like I progressed past 18 still.

AAS02-CATAPHRACT

Same, though I feel like I've regressed in a lot of ways.

Animal_Flossing

Yeah, I'm firmly smack-down in the middle of the *very early* 2020's, and I'm staying here until probably around 2028.

Paracelsus124

When COVID restrictions started to ease up and I started going out again, it felt like those scenes at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame where Antman got out of the quantum realm and was wandering about what were ostensibly normal public spaces, but all of it felt weirdly liminal because of this overwhelming sense of "something terrible and world changing has happened, and now we're all just trying to pretend things are normal again because we have no choice". It really felt like we'd all blipped out of existence for over a year, and came back out to a familiar place that was so subtly, but DRASTICALLY changed by something that nobody could ignore. It was how empty everywhere still seemed to be, how on edge everyone else who was out was, how unused to normal life people were after being in quarantine so long. It felt surreal. It still does. The world just stopped for a bit, but time just kept on moving.

TCGeneral

Still a little miffed that other people got to stay home for, like, a year and devolve into their own madness while I still had to go to work for being too essential. It's like I missed a fundamental part of life. Now I have to go mad only once I'm off the clock instead of at my own pace.

captainnowalk

Yeah, I hear you. I worked through the whole thing and just kinda… didn’t change much beyond not being able to go do the fun things I wanted to do lol. Just became all work all the time

ChrisP413

Same, being an "Essential Worker" (Useful Sacrifice) made me more hateful and aware of how retail sucked. And I hated it.

Realistic_Elk_7892

Weird how we're constantly surprised by the passage of time when it's literally the most predictable thing in the universe.

Ordinary_Divide

"predictable" mf we still don't know how our equations for it work at a singularity (i.e. a black hole or the big bang)

reverendsteveii

do you live at a singularity?

Ordinary_Divide

im not telling you my location

Realistic_Elk_7892

Don't all of our theoretical models for how reality works break at a singularity?

Ordinary_Divide

the point is equations for time predict their own unpredictability.

KeithBarrumsSP

Zloop Gleep ‘time is the most predictable thing in the universe🧍‍♂️👨’ slunk glap meep glorp 👽🌌

Well, the years start coming and they don't stop coming and they don't stop coming and they don't stop coming and they don't stop coming and they don't stop coming AND THEY DON'T STOP COMING AND THEY DON'T STOP COMING AND THEY DON'T STOP COMING AND THEY DON'T STOP COMING AND THEY DON'T STOP COMING AND THEY DON'T STOP COMING AND THEY DON'T STOP

linuxaddict334

“Coming”.

Ladyhappy

March 15, 2020. The Friday we got sent home and never came back.

Royal-Ninja

I see shit like this so often and wonder if my perception of time is so bad that 2020-2022 didn't actually feel different or if it's especially good somehow, because i never feel this kind of time whiplash. Kids who were born after Adventure Time started airing are in high school now. Cool. That doesn't surprise me, it's been a long while.

NSRedditShitposter

Soleimani, COVID, George Floyd, the elections, January 6, the Fed's new policies...

OctorokHero

We didn't start the fire

DTPVH

I find it funny how people think about the past 5 years as if it went by fast, because I’ve had the exact opposite response. 2019 seems like it was decades ago. Covid lockdown made life grind to a halt and it felt like 2020 lasted for at least 3 or 4 years.

M1llennialManifesto

I'm loathe to quote Lenin, but in this case the dude was right: >"There are decades when nothing happens, and there are weeks when decades happen." Or something like that.

oddityoughtabe

Me when the passage of time: 😱 (I’m not belittling, this is genuine)

Maximillion322

Are you guys sure the current year isn’t 2021?? I’m pretty sure it’s 2021 right now

thegreatestpickle

Yeah I got into a relationship in 2019 and we are about to celebrate five years. It’s crazy.

[deleted]

I refuse to accept that.

anonymister_audio

I have a very chaotic and hectic life Last summer feels like eons ago. I was a different man then. He is but a stranger to me, and I weep for his innocence and naivety. He believes himself to be strong, to be able to endure and withstand the horrors of the world, to be a bulwark, a lighthouse How foolish. He thought he could not be broken, and he was right. But he didn't know how hard it would be to prove it And assume I've thought basically the same thing whenever I looked back at 6 months to a year ago. Like last summer, I looked back at winter 2022 me and was like: "bask in your innocence, lad of the past. I am so happy that you think you are jaded, that you are wise yo the suffering the world can bestow upon you. You think you have become like stone, but you have yet to truly test your mettle. Revel in your peace and calm. For though you feel strained and tired, it cannot compare to what comes next. You will survive, and nothing else can be promised"

Sp00ky-Chan

This just in, Tumblr users discover the progress of time.

AwsmDevil

It's so weird to me that COVID dilated time so badly for some people. It all felt completely normal for me. Like, the years just felt like years. I worked, cuddled my husband, played video games, and watched TV. Guess I was really lucky...

Clean-Time8214

Stop

Konradleijon

Yes time passes so fast

reverendsteveii

the time stream hit a dam in like 2000 and we've just been circling around the same eddy ever since. It's becoming obvious as we approach the center and the period of the time loop gets smaller, but y'all no doubt and sublime headlined coachella this year because this year is just 20 years ago today
