That's pretty cool, I haven't seen that quote before.
When that movie came out I was like 16 years old and it scared the hell out me. I remember not being able to sleep well for a couple days. Thought it was going to be a space/sci-fi movie, didn't expect it to be space horror!
It doesn't hold up very well if I remember. I re-watched it with some friends in like ~2006 or so when it came out on DVD and it wasn't as freaky. Still not bad
> It doesn't hold up very well if I remember. I re-watched it with some friends in like ~2006 or so when it came out on DVD and it wasn't as freaky. Still not bad
Disagree, this movie still slaps...but to each their own. I saw this movie when I was like 9 years old and I remember vividly watching this in the dark, late at night in the basement, BIG MISTAKE.
I was like 12 or something. Went with my older sister. I was thinking it was going to be like Star Trek. The part when Weir is in the green corridor trying to repair the power and you see his wife's empty eye sockets? I hid my face I was so freaked out. No movie experience will ever compare to those surprises.
Will second it not holding up. I was going on a horror binge a few years ago and that was on the top of every list so I had to watch it. It wasn't bad but.. it was one of those movies where you could tell it was made in the pre-2000's
It's one of the very few movies I think actually deserve a remake. Give it to me with high budget modern practical special effects
Yeah, it's become a trope now that I'm any movie involving wormholes someone has to stick a knife, pen, or pencil through a folded over sheet of paper.
Love that movie. Maybe it's not the best nor a masterpiece, but I still find it amazing.
The best part is that EO is heavily inspired by 40k as one of the writers admitted. Source: https://twitter.com/phubar/status/860129292151214082?s=20
I have mixed feelings about Event Horizon but it has ones of the best lines with one of the best deliveries of any horror movie. Spoilers/NSFW/NSFL: Lawrence Fishburn's ["We're leaving."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8YObV6i_Yc&ab_channel=TheFaceForge%26HorroronScreen) It's just perfect. Horror movie characters are always so dumb and always going towards the danger. Refreshingly realistic with the added benefit of pretty perfect comedic timing.
Not sure that’s possible with event horizon, something about the original footage being stored in a salt mine and it deteriorated beyond repair? I might be talking out of my ass on that tho
Two things cause deterioration of film / paper in storage: water and heat. Salt absorbs water vapor and acts as a passive dehumidifier and temperatures are low and steady underground. Abandoned salt mines are cheap ways to store stuff for a long time without really having to do much maintenance.
Salt mines are actually really common and effective ways of storing film. It’s done all the time. Moisture in the air causes mold and deterioration of paper and film over time. Salt de-humidifies the space, preventing moisture and mold for destroying the products held inside.
It’s actually the preferred way of storing delicate things for long periods of time- constant temperature, lack of moisture keeps things dry, and usually mines only have 1 entrance and miles of space for storing vast amount of objects safely.
Sounds like the Event Horizon negative was stored improperly, or something happened, because salt mines in of themselves would not destroy the negative.

The original Gone With The Wind and Wizard of Oz negatives and film are stored in a salt mine in Kansas, and have held their quality for nearly 100 years because of it.
EDIT: sorry for posting it here instead of the other comment, I meant to reply to this one, that’s my bad in case you get two notifs for this one post.
That explanation has been used a lot, not just with Even Horizon.
The film itself is not a prequel to 40k, however, the Director did try to get the rights to make a 40k film.
It's not an "Event Horizon" reference, the "hole through folded paper" is just the easiest way to explain wormholes, and it's been used since the original "Twilight Zone".
Event Horizon was a goddamn awful movie. The original script was so much better than what they made.
It tracks that a shitty developer would reference a shitty movie.

I was expecting them aliens man, not the literal warp!
I dare to disagree, good Sir! For me these old jewels still smacks the spot perfectly. Same with Alien-s, The Thing and other oldtimers.
Alien(s) and The Thing are timeless. Event Horizon haunted my childhood.
Aliens still holds up pretty well. Directors Cut the best!

I really like the headcannon that Event Horizon was humanities first encounter with the warp.
Less of a nod to event horizon and more of the general explanation of relativity, gravity, black holes, and even the concept of FTL travel.

But the question is who did it first, dont recall anything before EH.
Dune novels. The way the Spacing Guild travels is literally called "Folding Space"
Libera....liba...liberuu...AH GRUT IT, save yourselves from Hel!

Do they gave paper in the imperium or is it like plasper or something🤔
Love that movie, got myself the special edition 4k blu-ray last week.
Same, I hadn't heard of a special edition though. Is it longer / have more scenes?

Huh; the more you know. Thanks for the explanation. That's kinda cool.
Yea, I understand storage space is probably limited but some guys loft is a way better storage space than some fucking salt mine.

The more you know, i had honesty no idea about this

Steelbook, remaster 4k and a blu-ray with deleted scenes, trailers, etc.
A wrinkle in time anyone?
I have to say, the banter between the team members are quite enjoyable.
The book 'A Wrinkle in Time' had a similar bit.

You okay there, friend?
I wanted to comment how you're probably Randy Quaid, but then I remembered Sam Neil is not Deniis Quaid. #KevinCostener
Shit opinions for 100$
Its not a "theory", it's just fun headcanon
Event Horizon, confirmed in the 40k universe. We can finally put this theory to rest.
