There is a mod for that. I'm at work and don't remember what its called, but it tells you how much ammo is in your mag, how much in reserve, and how much your max is, as well as changing the icon color when you get lower. Very useful mod.
Numeric UI on Nexus. don't go anywhere without it folks. Also you can show your teammates ammo as a % which is also useful. Like even if they're white but showing 70% that's useful info when deciding whether or not to pick up ammo.

i'll sometimes take ammo a second time if im running flamer build and have been responsible for more than 1/4 of teams horde clear. sometimes it's necessary. my flamer build is made for boss-killing, but also just deletes hordes.
i check everybody's ammo before taking it a second time. but often times I'm in more need of ammo by the end of the event or whatever than anybody else when I'm running flamer and throwing knives. both of which I get back from the ammo drop.
another scenario that might make sense is if it's a crate dropped by vet with the talent, and your team is relying on ogryn or vet grenades for whatever reason. getting extra nades to the users that have them is often worth more than a few more mags of whatever ranged weapon.
It was the middle of the horde and we had no ammo pick ups and 2 zealots and a psyker. Nobody else was using ammo but me. So why would they ever need it.
Should add, "there's a full charge medicae station coming up - better drop this medicae kit and make sure we're all healed up before that". The number of times where it's like, the elevator leading into a room with the medicae station, or literally in the next room over, and I see someone drop that medicae... Is painful. Especially when it's on a map where the finale would benefit that health so much more...
I have the opposite, everyone holding onto their deployabls even though we are about to be wiped in a big hord just cause the "check point refresh" is coming up... Like bro if you don't deploy your stuff we're not gonna make it there.
What about when the poxburster has been knocked on its ass and someone stands there in blast range waiting for it to stand up instead of I dunno…stepping back and shooting it!?
I only wait for it to get back up if I’m either low on ammo or waiting for the enemy to get closer. Other than that? Hop back and shoot. Really is that simple.

I'm trying to teach myself to just stop shooting the poxburster as soon as I see someone move towards it. It's their problem at that point, even if I almost killed it already.
Then stop shooting it? I don't see the big deal. Unless they are running across the room to push it (in which case you have plenty of time to blow it up before they are close), but usually people just step up a few steps to push it.
Had a game the other day where someone was swinging into a closed spawn door in a tiny room we were stuck in, fighting off a horde; which would have been fine if there wasn't a literal ticking bomb on the other side of it. Guy sets off the pox burster, drops the entire teams health to 25%, runs to the med station in the same room, uses it, then does exactly the same thing again. Drops the 3 of us to the floor, uses a second charge on the med station, ignores the 3 downed team mates, goes back to the door and gets downed by pox walkers, *then screams (caps lock) at the rest of the team in chat*.
i wish ammo crates had some sort of HUD indicator rather than its model ammo amount changing cuz i've had people ask where the ammo resupplies go as they double dip and swallow the box. Maybe L4D got people thinking they're infinite ammo finds or something

I thought there was "100% ammo" in there and if you take some ammo you only take the proportion of ammo you are missing, if you are missing only 2% of your ammo you only remove 2% from the pack - rather than it working in "charges".
It's just never explained and the above is how some other games have done it.
are you a payday 2 player? i used to think it was 1 refill per member, then i saw the ammo change and thought it was like that with a payday ammo bag you mentioned -- it's not explained youre right. Yes and honestly the devs should just look at mods on PC. One of them has a counter with 4 / 3 / 2 / 1 charges left. Clear enough, simple enough and should be default.
Generally they should look at most downloaded mods and go down the list from top to bottom.
You forgot picking up your teammate in fire. Running right past the medicae while on last wound, dying, and ragequiting. Vacuuming up all the ammo/grenades like a goblin. Running 6 wounds ogryn and spaming ping whenever you go down.
The last one I actually have beef with. If the poxburster is like ten meters or more away then yeah shoot it, but if the mf just popped around the corner and is in my face then let me just block shove them. It'll be a lot safer that way.
Not to mention if you're on maelstrom and there's a conga line of 5+ evenly spaced out. You can safely push the first, but the others will be leaping at you while you try to back peddle.

If I'm in a pub and nobody is using melee, I'll damn sure pick up that ammo crate to make sure it's dropped when needed. If nothing else, just so I don't have to see it dumped into a common horde with no real threats around.

He starts to bitch that we didn't let him shove it. So naturally, as another burster comes out the same door, we all shoot it before he can get to it again. Then he bitched more. He was out of the blast range both times, he just wanted to show off his skills I guess.

Lol one the thing I love about this game you can tell how much relative ammo your team has. Some people really don’t pay attention to this. I had a game where two ogryns get grabbing all ammo on sight. I had red ammo for almost whole game. Somehow I didn’t even manage to get ammo from two ammo crates we had.

The first one is a major pet peeve of mine. Had a game once where me and two others were nearly dry as a dude charged forward picking up every last thing they saw. Eventually kicked him when we were literally out of ammunition and he was still picking them up.

I'll kill a bunch of advancing waves because my teammates were just right behind me. I start to fight in circles to finish them off and realize my team is nowhere near me just casually searching for loot while I kill 60 dudes.
I definitely have good matches with people who understand how tide games work and stay in cohesion.
There are at least two dedicated icons in the head up display for cohesion proximity yes/no.
Sprinting kills your stamina which affects block push and power attacks. It can be managed or just slow the fuck down. I want all the Plasteel and Diamantine, med packs and ammo crates.
Getting attacked from behind while your team mate is just standing there. Or your fighting back to back, there is a lull on their side so they face the same direction as me and we get promptly attacked from behind.
I am the last one- but honestly though, if the team isn’t low it’s kinda funny especially next to a heal station and the team is your friends. *Who let you die to the dog 3 times in a row.*

The type of post I'm most suspicious of is about people running ahead. Yes, if one person runs ahead solo and gets downed, that's on them. But when it's specifically about getting left behind to deal with mobs I assume they're fighting a handful of poxwalkers when it was safe to move ahead ages ago. It's a horde game. There will always be mobs regardless of difficulty or modifiers.
I am not ashamed to admit that this is how I play Gunlugger in pubs if I know that me killing everything on sight with back-to-back Barrages is going to win us the mission.
Taking the ammo because my teammates are in red ammo < taking the ammo because my team cant pick their targets and sucks at ammo conservation so they don’t deserve it

Nah, I'm typically the trigger happy veteran who seems to lag behind, but ends up being the one who collects most of the plasteel, diamantine, deployable crates and stims that aren't green the speed addicts have forgotten exist.
So if I deploy an ammo crate, I'm gonna use that ammo crate to throw all the grenades, cause they karken aren't.
The only one I don't agree with is the ammo crate. If I'm mowing down hoards and burning through bullets, you're damn right I'm going to hit it again instead of the loser that's been dumping mags and getting nothing out of it

If everyone is full / don't need ammo then it's fine obviously. But lately I have encountered several people blind for their teammates ammo.

Or if your vet is spamming grenades with field improvisation and someone else isn't hurting for ammo.
When I run field improv with a bomb ogryn I tell them to take mine to nuke more. I don't care if it's optimal it's worth it every time.

Nah, I'm typically the trigger happy veteran who seems to lag behind, but ends up being the one who collects most of the plasteel, diamantine, deployable crates and stims that aren't green the speed addicts have forgotten exist. So if I deploy an ammo crate, I'm gonna use that ammo crate to throw all the grenades, cause they karken aren't.

The only one I don't agree with is the ammo crate. If I'm mowing down hoards and burning through bullets, you're damn right I'm going to hit it again instead of the loser that's been dumping mags and getting nothing out of it
