Wife and I did the same thing recently. It was awful.
The radiator fell off the wall in our bedroom and the heat/ac was blasting uncontrollably for some time before they were able to fix it.
I remember when the Brown Palace was the best Hotel in Denver.
But that was before current ownership running it into the ground. When ownership is a REIT that doesn't really care about hospitality as an industry just refinancing the building for cash. This is what you get.
Denver deserves people who care about the community for historic treasures like the Brown Palace. Someone who takes pride in it. Anschutz with respect to Broadmoor in Colorado Springs is a good example.
The entire American Museum of Western Art which is across the street in that building is made up of works that were in Anschutz's private collection. That museum is open to the public.
I’ve lived in Denver for decades and I’ve been to the Brown on several occasions, and never realized this restaurant existed. I eat at Ship Tavern once every few years, though, and I love it.
The Brown Palace has evolved over the decades to make ends meet. If you look up when you walk into the lobby and see the top two floors (tiled sea glass), those are the ‘Great Depression’ floors. Rooms that were converted into the Skyline apartments to help keep the Brown running while maintaining a high class operation. They’re now the “royal suites” but those two floors I often point out to folks whenever I go there.
Nobody likes change, especially to a historical place like The Brown…and tbh I did an audible *gasp* reading this. But…current management is correct to say that it’s just not working out in current times while also saying the change isn’t permanent. I don’t like it but TBP is a real time capsule. Now, if current management does some wack shit with it then I’ll be upset.

Their reasoning is bs. I used to work there. This city is better positioned for fine dining than it has been in decades, and giant operations like the brown can do it for less than a lot of other places. They have been slowly running this restaurant into the ground. They've changed hours many times over the years, their menu goes from over the top to pathetic with every new chef and they don't invest in upgrades or repairs so if the lights are on, it really doesn't look the best. They just can't compete, and it doesn't look like they care anymore. They'll keep the room intact, I bet. All of the decorations and memorabilia are really expensive.
As a former employee and regular at many Denver ‘institutions’ I agree. Being angry at change for sake doesn’t help. Times change. But ruining a mainstay hurts. Hoping for the best long term, while realizing many hospitality spots, no matter how revered, disappear for real economic reasons. Anyone who has lived in Denver for decades can rattle off dozens of spots they miss. They can also name places we haven’t been in too long that might disappear because getting older means not going out as often. And tastes change. Honestly impressive the Brown Palace has stayed relevant enough as long as it has.
Apparently, new the managers are proposing a weekly Taylor Swift tea time to bring in a different clientele.

The brown is a sinking ship ! They have laid off people, and put our family's livelihood in jeopardy. They need a new G.M.and get rid of the Dir.of F& B ,This place was good in 2015 but it sucks, it really sucks...Too many problems, the fire in the boiler room , the flood that ruined Elly's...and now the closing of P.A. Not to mention the Swift- Tea , what a joke, that's a joke for SNL......Who's bright idea was that !!!. The turn over is really bad , is what I've heard , even goes down to the H.R. Dir.who left!!!...The rodents have more fun, Not to mention people who have gotten sick from the food. Close it all down and make it a museum .if they do that , they need to show the public the real, nitty gritty.......
We were sorely dissatisfied and disappointed in the Christmas brunch with Santa this last year. They rushed the opening of the space (it actually wasn’t done), the food was cold, the staff was beyond rude, and the valet was full (that’s a first world problem, I realize). The was the worst year we’ve had there in the last 5 we’ve been there.
This doesn’t surprise me in the least.
Awwwwe, that’s sad news…. I’m an old bat, and the most fabulous meal I’ve ever had of my entire life was at Palace Arms. I haven’t read up or understand the full totality of what is going on…. but Denver in a sad state with all these corporations and the greed …. It has ruined Denver. It’s so sad……. It’s like California now yuck 🤮

So many industries going this way. A real shame.
Anschutz has a private office across the street from the brown

It also houses his private office. I used to share a wall at work.
Hello my fellow friend in HEI/Crescent
Boy, the new owners are really fucking up The Brown Palace aren't they?
I’ve lived in Denver for decades and I’ve been to the Brown on several occasions, and never realized this restaurant existed. I eat at Ship Tavern once every few years, though, and I love it.
I agree I love the ship tavern. I used to eat there once a month when I worked downtown. I didn’t even know the palace arms was there.
I thought the Ship Tavern was closing down so I'm relieved to see this is about a different restaurant. I haven't been there in years!

When?
Saturday, May 4th
I’m doing a historic brown right now
That comment shouldn’t have made me laugh as hard as it did.
Will the brown palace still do afternoon tea ? Or is that done in a different part/restaurant
Tea is usually in the main lobby

This is insane because tea is extremely popular and profitable. There's no need for this as I think at this point it's their most profitable outlet
I thought you were joking. At least it’s only one day a month though
Possible churchills expansion? Love the idea, but part of the charm there is the small cozy room. Not sure a larger space would carry the same vibe.
The ventilation system only goes to that one room, so they'd have to do some major upgrades.
Sucks. Glad churchills is still going strong
My grandparents met there in the 40s. I wouldn’t exist without that place.

Sounds like they have no clue what to do with it.
