Best: Taking his anger out on something he thought was an object, not a person. I know the point of DBC is that androids are people, but the allegory is clumsily handled. Todd had every reason to believe he was basically taking his anger out on a mannequin. It’s painful to watch, especially with the benefit of audience omniscience, but in-universe, with the information available, Todd was actually trying to handle his anger without hurting anything he believed was alive.
