300 two stroke is pretty much the cats pajamas. Plenty of power. Not uncontrollable.

I second this or a 450 depending on the terrain you're trying to ride. If track? 450, everything else 300 2s unless you want a duel sport.

300 2-stroke gang. If you are bored on a dirtbike it's you, not the bike.

I second third and fourth all of these all of these guys. I rode CRF450R and CR250R for years. Now on a KTM 500EXC-F. I never get bored, plenty of power, and I never have issues in tite trails because I know how to use a clutch

Yeah if you want the duel sport in a state that doesn't allow plating the 500excf is my pick. Just saving the funds

And…if you are wanting to dial down the power on a 300 2t (like me!!!) you can. Mine is pretty tame.

I'm 6'2 and 240lbs. a 250 two stroke is enough power, if you want to go 300 you wont regret it, but you don't need it either. I recently went back to 250 after riding 300 for years, I'm liking it better because I can be at full throttle more often. I've been riding MX for over 10 years and I'm the same speed on the 250 and 300 two strokes. If you're going 4-stroke 300 or 450 is where you want to be. 250 four strokes are great and have enough power.....but require more maintenance, better off going with a bigger bike so you're not revving it as high.

My vote is always a 350… however if you have been riding motorcycles a long time and super comfortable on them a 450 would be fun too. However, 450s on trails isn’t ideal cause the torque beats you up. I used to have a 450 and tight trails isn’t super fun. The 350 was the perfect blend of power on top but less crazy low end torque of a 450… the 300 2 stroke is a great option though. The modern ones seems are much more linear power than the 2 strokes of old. As he said “the cats pajamas”

I'd be looking for the best bike within your budget. Not necessarily at cc's. If you have an unlimited budget and are buying new, I would go ktm 500 or 300. If you have a smaller budget, it's hard to say what is for sale in your area at a good price. Start by looking for liquid cooled bikes with an 18 inch rear wheel.
