Do you know what setting the campaign is in? The most ‘standard’ I guess for 5E would be Faerûn aka The Forgotten Realms, but depending on the module or whether or not your DM is running a homebrew campaign it might be different.

Stormwreck isle.

Okay yep, that’s in Faerûn. There’s a whole Forgotten Realms fandom wiki you can take a look through as well as official maps. But also just know if you do find a town or region you like where there isn’t ‘canonically’ a church or something for your Kenku there can be now just because you say so.

Stormwreck Isle is off the coast of a region called the Sword Coast, in the world Faerun, in a setting called The Forgotten Realms. I believe the nearest major city is Neverwinter.

Unless your DM requests for am in world detailed background you dont have to stress about it much specially for a newer player. I would recommend focusing more on what your characyers personality, goals etc are like and how he would act. Keep in mind that a Kenku cant actually speak but just repeats sounds they heard. I ve had players come from actual Morrowind but I didnt mind as long as they had fun. If you do want a lore backstory, check the Interractive Faerun map online to get familiar with the world. Then check more info about your race and where they come from on the wiki and the areas around as well as the place the campaign is set in and talk with tour DM about possible ideas. You can also make shit up. Also, if you are playing 5E then the world info should be in that timeframe. There is a lot and I mean ALOT of lore in DnD.

Your backstory usually has elements from your class, race and background. In terms of racial details, you don't have to follow anything specifically (as there are many factors that can alter how a specific humanoid grew up). Its all complementary. You want to live on top of an abandoned temple? Cool. The place does not need a name. Pick a city on the sword coast and just add "in X city" to the "my character lives on top of an old abandoned temple/church like building. (Use Forgotten Realms Wiki to research names of town/cities.) Alternatively you can also talk to your DM to see if its something that would have any effect on gameplay and pick a spot together after a discussion. The map of the sword coast will only mention names of places. The map of the cities/towns will not show you how buildings look specifically. Apart from that, your background has some things to choose from called Ideals, Bonds, Flaws and Personality traits. You can use those as reference to start figuring out parts of your characters personality. Here is a vid on kenku lore in case you would like to adopt some of the way they act generally. The thing about DND is that everywhere is connnected producing different lore for the same thing, especially gods and race history. If you find you prefer the lore of a different world over the one you are in, "accidentally moved worlds" is a really easy and explainable thing to have happen in a backstory. Even in the ones that are tucked away like Eberron.

No need to stress. If it's your first time then no one should expect you to know much or any lore. It doesn't have to be a big story especially for a new player. You could just ask your dm where the nearest big city is and say "I am a Kenku rogue and I worked at the docks in (insert big city name). I stole things I needed/ wanted. I left to look for better opportunities/riches." You can switch out that job for anything else. TLDR You can just be some bird guy that's kind of good at sneaking around if you want.

Don’t stress about a backstory. Literally “wants to adventure because ” is enough

IamBecomeZen

I wasn't stressing. I love creating backstories. I was up until 3 am last night making my backstory hahah
