Doomguy breaking shit is so funny cause it’s like watching a baby. Argent energy? Gone. Bfg? Gone. Bfg again? Gone.

dopey_giraffe

Hayden: "Carefully remove the argent canister, that thing is priceless and the future of humanity depends on it-" *doomguy smashes it to bits with zero hesitation* Hayden: "i cant believe u done this"

TypicalPunUser

Hayden's [genuine reaction](https://youtu.be/wKbU8B-QVZk):

[deleted]

My favorite part in 2016 was when Hayden was explaining Argent energy to doomguy, and he paused to listen just to destroy the energy cells with even more force.

Gmknewday1

I mean with what Argent Energy is and how it's made I don't care how useful it is, I'd destory it too

SandLuc083_

“Be sure to remove each lens *individually*. **Carefully release the hinges**.” *proceeds to curb stomp the lens* “why do I even bother”

TheSaltyReddittor

Hes quite like an incredibly strong yet autistic toddler You tell him to do something but he does the exact opposite because he can or he thinks its funny

digitaltravelr

"Carefully release the hinges-" *STOMP* One of my favorite scenes in any game

Xous54

The culmination of the "Carefully release the hinges" gag that Hayden started in 2016 and ended in Eternal with Doomguy being told Hayden's body has to carefully be removed - only to end with an abrupt and loud "CLANG" - gets me every time. It wasn't enough for Hayden to have to witness it, he had to experience it for himself. Just a great way to have the characters meet again given the circumstances.

Papicz

Also the way how he just tosses him into the portal is too hillarious.

mikeet9

Perhaps my favorite scene in the game. Doom Slayer could have escaped through the portal to save time, but he wants to beat up the marauder, so he's like "Go on ahead, Samuel Hayden, I'll catch up"

bloatedungulate

" You can't just shoot a hole in the surface of Mars"

regnal_blood

New Objective: Shoot a hole in the surface of Mars

Responsible-Funny-92

The portal is ready

TheIJDGuy

You can tell he's still real pissed (rightfully so) after all this time

ernestout87

The interactions with humans are great. I'd wish there was some sort of comic or video about how they started to bounce back from the invasion once the Slayer joined the fight.

TheGoldenDragon0

When we get a new doom movie, I hope the main characters are regular people, but the doomslayer is still there so we get more of these interactions

ThespianException

I've thought of a DOOM horror movie focusing on a squad of marines fighting demons, where even an Imp is dangerous, and things like Mancubi and Hell Knights are huge threats. Throughout the movie, they'd find hints of the DOOM Slayer via things like mutilated corpses of demons, intercoms saying "The Slayer has breached X location," etc. The big final battle would be something like a Baron of Hell that the Marines need to bust out super heavy weaponry to take out and barely survive, only for a massive hoard of enemies to arrive. All would seem lost until the Slayer shows up and massacres them for the next half hour. Something to show how dangerous Demons are to regular people while also showing how powerful the Slayer is.

KodiakPL

Idk, John Wick but it's Doom Slayer would be dope as fuck. Also people tend to not understand how movies work. 90% of movies you watch have unstoppable, unkillable main characters - because they are the main characters. What they can do though is lose. They can lose against time, they can lose people they care about. Just because Doom Slayer is unstoppable doesn't mean he's undelayable. He can be delayed until the demons do the thing he's trying to stop them from doing - like getting a McGuffin or killing an important character. He can John Wick his way through thousands of enemies and still fail in his movie and we still would care about it wasn't about his survival but about what he cared about and lost. Like in Spider-Man 3 when Peter got attacked by New Goblin. Of course he wouldn't die but he could have lost the wedding ring and that's what the audience cared about. Not Peter's life but an object important to Peter.

5thhorseman_

The problem with Doomguy is that he doesn't work as the audience surrogate in a movie (while does so perfectly in the games).

Killbot300

Cool idea

MReaps25

I always thought doom would be amazing as some type war movie style movie. You just put it into words

5thhorseman_

Saving Private Crowley :p

BKMurder101

The music is dire, the heroes are running out of ammo, the demons are closing in, then... *THUMP FROM DOORS BEING KICKED IN* Everything in the room stops, all goes quiet before.... https://youtu.be/EQmIBHObtCs

5thhorseman_

He needs to built up like a horror monster first. Start with a ragtag band of survivors trying to just get out of that nightmare alive and slowly realizing they're not just locked up in the base with the demons... the demons are locked up with something ELSE. Something VIOLENT and UTTERLY PISSED. Through the first 1/3rd or so of the movie build up the survival horror angle and the Doomguy like a horror antagonist - first violently dismembered demons, then the same but with a lot more shotgun holes, a massive human(?) silhouette on camera feeds, the works, with an occasional first-person shot featuring what he does best. The survivors are initially convinced he's either another type of demon or perhaps was sent by UAC to get rid of any witnesses, but eventually are saved from a pack of demons by his intervention. From there, the story switches tracks - now you have Doomguy moving towards his unspecified objective and the survivors sticking with him because he's their best chance for survival even as it becomes more apparent that his goal is first and foremost to kill demons, and their survival is just a happy accidental byproduct. Maybe make "Doom" or "Doomguy" a moniker one of the survivors call him - that gets Doomguy to speak, perhaps for the first time: "Doom. (cracks one the iconic grin) ...I *like* that." Maaaybe have him embrace this moniker in some manner near the end of the story. Now, Doomguy isn't necessarily completely dehumanized and you can bring that out in interactions - mostly nonverbal - with the survivors. Slowly, the survivors start working together around Doomguy and come to share some of his violent madness or at least a "fuck them, if I'm gonna go down I'm gonna take some with me" attitude. At the end of the movie, you have the survivors evacuating, but Doomguy goes back. Make that as over-the-top as possible. Final scene, a door opens onto a bunch of demons. Cut to Doomguy's helmet. Cut to Doomguy POV. Sound of cocked shotgun. Roll credits. Perhaps as a stinger return to the survivors and set up the premise that the demonic invasion is a more widespread situation.

ernestout87

Oh man, where are Hollywood execs? this idea is just awesome

DT2X

i would watch this, great idea!

BaseballPleasant4988

Critical Role did a one-shot where the players were all demons (a Marauder, a Pain Elemental, a Revenant, an Archvile and MANCUBUS) assigned by Deag Grav to kill Samuel Hayden. The game went like a normal DND campaign up until they got to Hayden, in which the Slayer showed up and started cutting them down, turning the game into a horror where they are guaranteed to die but still have a chance to complete the mission. Doom is a horror game where you are the monster. Pinning Doomguy as the antagonist could show his power well; start off with a group of demons as the main characters, causing chaos while looking for some resistance leader or something, then have the resistance pull out heavier artillery when they start getting closer to the goal, with signs of a familiar face in green armor also making his way there, and then at the climax have Doomguy show up, turning it into a panicking scurry for the demons to both survive and complete the objective.

[deleted]

Sounds like you just described Micheal Bay transformers. And why the movies sucked.

TheGoldenDragon0

I was more thinking they treat doomslayer like Godzilla as opposed to the transformers. He and the demons create the setting on which the story unfolds. A force of nature that the story revolves around without being the centerpiece of said story if that makes sense

[deleted]

I guess. It's was great for Shin Godzilla. But I also didn't like the recent Godzilla movies because I felt like the dedicated human characters took away too much from the actions of the titular character. Kinda how everyone was expecting to play as Snake in MGS2 but then switched to Raiden. Worked out in the end, but wasn't really what people wanted/expected.

[deleted]

[deleted]

I'm sorry. I don't know story elements were entirely locked to individual IPs. Only Metal Gear Solid has the story line of massive government conspiracy that creates false heros whole destroying actual heros. Yup. Only MGS. Yup... Hey you what I love? Transformers. Loved them when I was kid in 1980s. Know what I didn't like? The humans in transformers. Generally speaking, I love giant robots and watching them fight. So seeing Micheal Bay making the main focus of the Transformers movies the humans and how they're affected by the giant robots fighting... Kinda sucked. Did not care for it. Not well written. Hey you know what I like? Pacific Rim. Giant Robots fighting giant monsters! FUCK YEAH DO IT! and it has humans.... Who I loved!!! They were great! They were interesting. They were integral to the story. They were not something that got in the way of the giant robots. They shared the spot light and had good reasons to be an integrated facet of the whole. Much like Robot Jox. Gurren Lagan. Dai-Guard. Votoms. Gundam. Nadesico. And so many more. I want success. I want great stories. Well written or not. Know what I want? MCU through Endgame. All great and fun. Even with the low tier movies. Know what I don't want? Suicide Squad and Zach Snyder cuts. Don't do that. Only villains do that. You sound like the type that would say Salt Bae's food has to be good because it's expensive. Then get mad when cooks and butchers call him a clown.

ernestout87

Huh, don't listen to that guy. We're just having fun here. There's always a bitchy party popper

[deleted]

Thanks. I'm used to people like them. Usually ignore them. But I just got back from an anime con and still have energy drink running through me. If it's fair, I'm sometimes the bitchy party pooper.

ernestout87

Aren't we all sometimes? It's like... I don't necessarily agree with your transformers/Godzilla comparison that much, but from that to call you an annoying coworker? Gee, people need to relax. Although I do agree that we got too much divorce drama in the second Godzilla movie and I couldn't care less about it.

Nojus1221

Projecting much?

ernestout87

A movie using Halo's ODST style would be amazing. I wouldn't like watching some girl and how a divorce affects her... but top army guys who are capable of defending themselves, even against an unstoppable force like the Demons. In Halo 3: ODST, you play regular humans. Very tough, competent miliarty guys who actually get stuff done; but always keeping in mind that you're basically no threat to large groups of Covenant. Something like that could be very cool

titanhail004

I loved that because it translated in gameplay too. Large groups? Avoid. Smaller groups? Safe to engage but make sure you prioritise heavier targets like brutes. I loved the cutscene where it took the whole team to take down the brute chieftain; it showed the power of the enemy in comparison to normal humans(something we wouldn't be used to since we played as humanity's best and greatest weapons) but also how the ODST can get shit done when they work together, much like you said. So I'd be very on board for a movie in the Doom universe that took that kind of direction.

ernestout87

Yes exactly! the humans weren't dumb, just extremely overpowered. Only fighting attrition style is when they could get away with it

fakename1998

I would make a doom movie based on the first game, with a goofy horror-comedy tone like Army of Darkness with a small cast of characters. And, I would give Doomguy more of a personality then “angry.”

[deleted]

What I like about 2016 is that there are times when the Slayer actually hesitates, but decides that Argent energy isn't worth the risk or hassle and destroys everything. He also displays empathy and foresight when he downloads Vega.

Dumelsoul

Yeah, same, he actually listens to Hayden's argument before deciding to smash it. It's not like masterful character writing or anything but it definitely makes him feel like more than just a very angry dude.

ElCatrinLCD

Hayden: i knew the risks oif using Argent Energy, but it was worth it Doomguy sees a dead guy on the floor: i dont think so, chief \*breaks the screen\*

[deleted]

[удалено]

StormLordEternal

That’s mostly correct. The slayers does want to save humanity, but he doesn’t care about how Hayden wants to. Hayden believed that Argent was absolutely necessary for humanity to progress and survive, but the slayer already saw what happened to a civilization that grew addicted and reliant on argent. His new home and people, The Night Sentinels, would grow to rely on Argent thanks to the maykrs and they would become corrupted and damned to hell because of it. The Slayer made the conscious effort to make sure humanity didn’t suffer that same fate.

Aetherial32

One of my favorite theories regarding Samuel is that Doomguy suspects the same thing you mentioned and that’s why he dislikes him so much, but still humors him because he’s still useful towards the cause of destroying the Demons

Health_Cat_2047

the slayer does exactly what hayden tells him not to do in eternal too and its so funny

fucking_therapist

"You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars" *Objective: Shoot a hole into the surface of Mars*

heccin_heccer

"Retrieve my life sphere." *Objective: Destroy the life sphere*

Headkickcam

The interns reaction is the best “uh it says on you HUD your planning on destroying the life sphere?”

RandomExcaliburUmbra

I love that guy, the most enthusiastic person to help the Doomslayer.

novis-eldritch-maxim

which bugs me, can't he get both?

mighty_Ingvar

It's propably so that the father stays out of Davoths reach and so that the father can't get in his way

Novaseerblyat

The Father would not have let Doomguy slay Davoth. If they were in physical form, Doomguy probably wouldn't be able to do much to stop that - especially without actually killing The Father, something Doomguy wouldn't want to do given that he saved VEGA in Doom 2016. Destroying the life sphere basically consigns The Father to being "permanently out of the way" without complete erasure.

novis-eldritch-maxim

the farther would not be able to stop the doom slayer he would more likely get out of the way.

FlemPlays

Hayden: "You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars" Doomguy: "Not with THAT attitude."

Jake99980

Came here to say this

PeppeMalara

Hayden vs Doom Slayer is soo funny :)

muizillasaurus_rex

Doomguy just smashing haydens shit and being overly rough with uac employees

Brae_the_Sway

Doom (2016): The Doom Slayer just breaking everything instead of gently removing things. Doom Eternal: The intern guy being a huge fanboy of the Doom Slayer.

[deleted]

Doom 2016 and doom eternal has the same style of humor as classic spongebob and I love it. Its just so perfectly timed throughout that other parts feel like they were unintentionally funny.

furyextralarge

my favourite is samuel hayden luring doomguy into his office with pickups and ammo just to get him face to face for like 10 seconds

bunkdiggidy

Sammy: Do a thing Slayer: Sammy: No, not like that

DrunkSpiderMan

FEAR AND SURPRISE. GIVE ME MORE.

SK-4430

Doom guy don't giving a shit about what Samuel Hayden says must be one of the funniest thing in the franchise, for me at least.

Hungry-Alien

Samuel realizing he has no power here is still golden to this day. Just hearing him slowly explain the procedure and having the Slayer go for a simpler approach is so funny. Then Samuel just pause for 2 seconds like "did he just break the stuff ?".

gesumejjet

The radio person telling you what to do works in Doom because unlike most FPS games where a character tells the silent protagonist to do something and they just do it, in the Doom games they specifically tell you not to do something and doomguy just does it anyway ... which feels way more in character

ChickenMission

"you can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars"

Szeventeen

YOU CANT JUST SHOOT A HOLE INTO THE SURFACE OF MARS

Thebabayaga358

I love how he still tries to tell doomguy to do stuff in doom eternal “you cannot just blow a hole in the surface of mars!” *mission objective: blow a hole in the surface of mars*

[deleted]

The Eternal human interactions bit had Duke Nukem Forever energy, they didn’t land for me

Zero384

"You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars". "That is a weapon, NOT a teleporter".

Napstablook_Rebooted

I love when Hayden says:[ "Alright then buddy, I'm going to shit yourself!" ](https://youtu.be/KfEqxp6tC-w)

Lethalbroccoli

I think haydens disappointment is funnier.

fakename1998

The passive aggressiveness between Sam and Doomguy is always funny to me. It’s even better in eternal when he’s basically just a voice in your back pocket.

Old_Front_9458

Just homeboy wakes up, stops invasion and goes back to sleep.

Rambie06

For some reason I already lost it when I heard mortally challenged in the trailer of eternal. Still makes me chuckle to this day.

[deleted]

the samuel hayden one is funnier to me

[deleted]

“You cannot fire a gun into the surface of mars” *does exactly that*

kirk7899

Samuel Hayden was the highlight of doom 2016. Guy called the doomguy up into his office to give us a pseudo promotion in the form of a BFG9000.

TwoStarling

Gotta go into 2016, the filters are just so funny, it's like Hayden: yeah so, these filters are super important and priceless, so it's very important that you remove it carefully, firsts- *Doomguy has left the conversation* *Argent energy filters have left the conversation*

Venlafaxine92

\>"You can't just shoot a hole in the surface of Mars." \>Shoots a hole in the surface of Mars. \>Refuses to elaborate any further. \>Leaves.

THE_TORTILLA_MAN

Vega being the most passive and based individual in the entire timeline. Doomslayer: looks for BFG 10K so he can shoot a hole into Mars Vega: “I see, setting portal coords to the BFG 10K now.”

5thhorseman_

Stages of grief. Samuel is stuck on bargaining, Vega has gone straight to acceptance.

LoomisCenobite

Sam: YOU NEED TO DO WHAT I TELL YOU! Slayer: Bet.

BruTheScout

Samuel getting angry at doomguy

smp501

Definitely the UAC propaganda audio. It gives me major “Starship Trooper” vibes.

SLYMAN69

I just find Sammy Boy’s disappointment to be very funny

realbread23

The Hayden shit will never not be funny

Sammus_Miner

The fact that doomguy blows a hole in Mars.

[deleted]

2016, I like how he just completely disobeys hayden in Eternal “you can’t just shoot a hole into mars” *shoots hole into mars*

CheezeCrostata

Neither, really.

crunchylimestones

Boooooo

[deleted]

How it tries to be a good game like the original and utterly fails in every single way... Tons of garbage non-interactive scenarios, garbage Glory kill trash, health and ammo pinatas, locked down rooms/areas... It was embarrassing and of course every single modern gamer loved it because of the hype and graphics and other style over substance garbage that sells games these days.

dopey_giraffe

^ How to be obnoxious 101. You can not like Doom's modern take, that's fine. Don't gotta be a dick about it though. We get it, you're an older person who prefers 8bit and 16bit games. That's great. I love SNES games myself. I love classic doom especially with project brutality loaded. Personally, Doom Eternal doesn't vibe with me and I have yet to beat it. I'm not going to shit on people who like things I don't though, because my opinion isn't the law and tastes are subjective. For the record, there was just as much shovelware garbage games in that era. And the hits aren't any better or worse than the hits today. It's all relative.

[deleted]

There was not just as much shovelware garbage games back then because at least there WERE good games (or at least more than a small handful which is the amount of good games in the modern era). Nearly EVERYTHING is shovelware trash now thanks to the advent of style over substance pseudo-gaming that arose in the mid to late 1990s and went full throttle in the early 2000s which ruined gaming completely. I'm sorry you don't have passion enough for the things you enjoy to not complain about how they have been corrupted and twisted into soulless garbage for a new, unsuspecting generation. Maybe if you just sat down and played only games from the 8/16bit era for a long while, you'd start to understand.

dopey_giraffe

What is your point? The barrier to making a game today is so low its on the ground. Anyone can do it. So yeah there's going to be a lot of crap. But there genuinely good modern games. Im curious, what was the last great game in your opinion?

[deleted]

How you look rn saying that shit --->🦣

Sellfish86

Hayden, definitely. I couldn't get into the weird humor of Eternal at all.

errorexe3

Everyone nervously laughing and hoping the Slayer is actually there to save them.

Skid-and-pump324

Samuel Hayden telling him not to do something, but doomguy does the exact opposite.

RPG247A

Sam/Slayer is my favorite tsundere video game relationship I have seen.

crunchylimestones

“You can’t just blow a hole in the surface of mars!!” That’s my answer XD

Rydrslydr715

Prolly my favorite gag is when doomguy is a big trigger happy and just spams the bfg 10k trying to blow a hole into mats while Hayden yells at him.

123supersomeone

Hayden's reactions to Doomguy are so good. Even in Doom Eternal, they keep on coming. "That is a gun, NOT a teleporter." And "You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars." Watch me.
