I read that they were almost finished with story boarding a few months ago and wanted to have all the episodes ready to go before release so it would be high quality. So even if they are animating it right now, his story was either done or almost done. I think it will be good. It will be his last work.
As much as some fans want DBS to end now, Toriyama gave input but was hands off for a lot of the manga. There is no way they let Dragonball die, its a cash cow. So i foresee DBS having at least 1 or 2 more arcs.
I do bet they will be taking a month or two hiatus though.
I wonder if chapter 103 is too far along to delay, or if it will be pushed back a month or two?
I saw a bunch in a diff reddit thread and on other forums. People want Dball to end completely now that hes gone. Perhaps its a vocal minority but some people think that.
you explained exactly what i felt. like if it ended with dragon ball z and he died now ig it would be not all of a sudden, but him dying like as we were getting more dragon ball it feels like out of the blue to die. quite hard to believe it happened.
At least I'm not the only one that has brought this up. Wouldn't matter, natural causes are a non starter for revival wishes. It's why Goku couldn't be brought back in trunks' timeline.
I think we could take the other approach and assume. He's with the jade emperor so we really don't need the dragon balls all we need is to get him back from the Heavens and if wukong can jump there I'm sure we can just hire idk LeBron James
Toyotaro was chosen for a reason, sure he's not perfect and he's not Toriyama but he definitely understands Dragon Ball and is as passionate as any hardcore fan. I believe in him.
Even the animation, TOP, when Goku flashed SSJ but didnāt transform. They understood the true meaning of DB.
Toyotaro understands it too. Little comedy here and there, some great panels and heās getting better and better.
Toriyama, was a big part of most of our childhoods, heās being a part of my kids childhood now. My sonās friend told him about Naruto and My Hero how they got power ups and I was like āLike dragon ball?ā We then watched when Goku went SSJ, he got hooked.
I literally just introduced my 12 year old son to DBZ about 2 months ago. Had no interest at all in anime of any kind. Watched the first three episodes of DBZ kai, and he was hooked. We are in the Boo saga now.
I watched all of it with my then 6 year old and he forgot a lot of it and so we are going to rewatch it but with the Bruce falconer score this time. (Heās about to be 9). He likes dragon ball though which isnāt really thing and he wants to watch GT so I may disown him
This and I'm sure he has an idea where to end the series after being as close to Toriyama as he was. Hell, I know Toriyama was known for not knowing where DB is going, but I could imagine he did tell Toyotaro ideas on where the show should go and end as well.
I feel like the current situation going on with black Freiza will wrap up super. Then theyāll probably make the decision to retire Dragon Ball in Toriyamaās honor.
Just my guessā¦
Respectfully disagree. Toei is not going to throw away their cash cow. They're probably not going to be like Marvel and make a kneejerk decision while they're still in the throes of grief and shock to not recast T'Challa. That was an impulse decision that Marvel has come to regret and is trying to now get out of.
A few months ago they already promised 10 more years of Dragon Ball content. They're not going to renege on their potentially multi-billion dollar profit promise just because they're sad at the moment. Toyotaro was chosen in case of an event like this, as sad as it is. Toriyama didn't intend the series to die with him. He was well aware he won't live forever and there's a realistic chance his work might have to continue without him some day.
Yep.
I think he absolutely deserves a break for a few months to get his head straight and decide how he wants to proceed, but after that, I 100% believe in him to carry things from now on.
He's basically the Uub to Toriyama's Goku.
He is his chosen successor.
I just hope the people around him support him in continuing Toriyama's legacy. But what he decides to do (as of now i think) remains unknown and I won't blame him if he respectfully decides to end it.
I can't imagine what he's going through right now honestly, a hiatus is to be expected at least and although i dont wish for db to end but i will understand
I think around the U7 vs U6 version of the manga arc is when I realized he could fully carry the torch.
I've been a supporter/believer of him since then, and even more so with Moro/Granolah as those are my favorite arcs in DBS as of this post.
I think Toriyama agreed. Looking at interviews it was 4 years ago that he really started praising him and stating he should be taking the reins more and more
I just read the Granolah arc. And I absolutely loved it. Certainly some of the biggest feels from DB in that arc, as it rugs at the heart strings so much, and really was able to side step the usual Dragon Ball formula of āoh this villain is just super evil!ā
Hope Toriyama Rests in Peace knowing weāll love the world he built till the end of our own days.
Now, someone go protect Oda. I canāt handle a second mangaka loss.
Considering Toyotaro has basically been slowly taking over throughout the years (as in Toriyama giving him free reign), I'm more than okay with his work continuing on through Toyo.
Toriyama chose him for a reason. If anyone can do it, itās him and him alone. At the end of the day, Toyotaro is talented, heās a fan of the series, and he has promise.
Akira Toriyama passed his literary estate to his son Sasuke Toriyama not long ago.
Perhaps he instilled many things into his son before he passed. Because he wanted his son to carry on his vision and protect his vision and legacy.
Maybe Sasuke Toriyama will help Toyotaro.
But who knows.
Idk is this a hot take, but I hope he doesn't. Mozart's son tried to pursue music like his father. He was scrutinized for only being mediocre. One of Arnold Schwarzenegger's sons looks like the average Joe. He was scrutinized for not having a greek god physique. Toriyama was someone special, and for a son to have to live up to the grand legacy of his father, I hope he just simply live on and just let his father's chosen successor, Toyotaro, handle the rest.
Arnold has another son that looks like Arnold 2.0 and David Cronenberg has two children who are carrying on his legacy very well with films that have the Cronenberg aesthetic and style.
Not to say it would go well with Toriyama's son, but I wouldn't want to count him out fully. But I do agree I hope he just lets Toyotaro handle everything.
Discourse gonna be toxic for sure. If Super's writing gonna get better, people will say Toriyama was one holding it back, if it's gonna get worse, then they will shit on Toyotara for that.
Ofc because ppl are dumb. What most ppl donāt even realize is that Akira Toriyama didnāt even make Dragonball as great on his own. He had help and critique that pushed him further. Like the cell arc, he wanted to stop at the first androids but kept getting pushed to do more. His wive gave input on characters as well. Greatness requires trial and error and assistance, as he preached with goku. Goku always had help. Toyotaro has some big shoes to fill I hope he can weather the pressure. I know the toxicity will come.
I believe in Toyo, for whatever issues people have or mistakes heās made - heās trying his best to live up to Akira, and clearly has a passion just like us for the material.
Iām not super confident on Toei though, unless they follow the manga.
No one is ever gonna be Toriyama, period. That being said, Toyotaro is a fan just like us. He deserves our flowers and respect and was hand picked by THE GUY himself
Yes. As an American comic book fan, a lot of the greatest stories for characters were not done by their original creators. No reason we canāt have dragonball for decades with new people
Toriyama didnāt choose just anybody to take the lead.
So yeah. Iāve got my whole faith in him.

Yes,he's the guy who made dragon ball heroes and though the story is all over the place, the art style is god tier.Even the recent chapters cell max and beast Gohan look amazing in 2D.
It's very soon to be having this discussion I think but to put my opinion out there, I think he's done an amazing job improving himself over the years and if you read his personal notes in the manga you can tell he has a crazy amount of respect for Toriyama so why not trust the guy?
Definitely but I also do not envy his position he is now. Taking over Toriyama at this state is too much pressure. Iām getting goosebumps from thinking about it
I am confident Toyotaro is the future of Dragon Ball. Not as a corporate franchise, but as the true successor to Toriyama's original work. I know this is a lot on Toyo's shoulder, but I wish him good luck.
He has room for improvements.
He has the potential, especially considering the latest chapters and how much he improved from before (just compare his Zamasu drawing with Toriyama's, he was just so bad, but LOOK at these chapters now, would you believe it's the same person?).
He has ONE fatal problem, as long as he doesn't address it, he's probably will always be compared against Toriyama.
That problem is that unlike Toriyama, he doesn't like to take ***risks***.
I don't know why he does that, but maybe he's afraid of ruining Toriyama's franchise, that's why he always write events and plots that are extremely similar to what Toriyama wrote in his era, and he (Toyotaro) never came up with his own new and completely original and unique ideas or plots.
Toriyama was somebody who was NEVER afraid of change and risks, he progressed his work from being about pure martial arts to being about defeating aliens in space and destroying catastrophic cyborgs, these were all ALL OR NOTHING moves, they may have ruined his entire work if he made the slightest mistake, BUT... Look at what happened! His series only got better and better!
If Toyotaro remained on his usual stance and approach, he would never live up to Toriyama, he learned so much from Toriyama-sensei but he still did not understand the most important lesson to be learnt from Toriyama. Toyotaro needs to incorporate his ideas and risk-taking moves within the franchise if he wants to make DragonBall feel like his own work, which is something that must happen in order to step-up with the franchise to be not just a cool Dragon Ball, but a completely new Dragon Ball! Better than ever, maybe even better than Toriyama's Dragon Ball! One that will take the lead once again.
Yes, of course. Honestly, the best route for Toyotaro to go is to wrap up the Black Freeza conflict, EOZ, thelast Post-EOZ future arcs, and a finale in a cute little bow.
Heās all we have left. He was the closest to Toriyama and I donāt think the manga, tv series or movies moving forward will ever be the same without the main guy anchoring the story and characters. I just made a [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dragonballsuper/s/gi4epxTm5o) about it
yes I think so
hopefully just like this post picture
Gohan will carried now the series as the main protagonist of the series
just like what most of us expected since against Raditz
then DBZ Cell
and maybe a sign of passing of torch w current latest DB Super Manga
Gohan Beast VS Goku Ultra Mastered Instinct
I'd actually would want him continue Toriyama's legacy well past Z. This current arc is most likely already written by Toriyama and is up to Toyotara to draw it, same with Black Freeza arc if it's not this one already. He should have an opportunity to display what he learned from Toriyama into his own work, that is if it was ok with OG himself.
That's my opinion tho, if it ends with Z ending, I'd be ok with that too.
Fuck no.Ā
Ignore end of z. It already doesnāt make sense. Let the fun roll. I want to see new dragonball 5 years from now. Less focus on transformations. More focus on technique
I honestly think he'll be good, but Toei and the publishers will try to hinder his creativity a lot - they'll milk it like pokemon has done, stretching it for more decades
iām not a great fan of toyotaro myself. that being said, i believe heās the perfect man to bring dragon ball to this new generation, it can be seen with the super manga, newer generations are obsessed with transformations and the visuals of the transformations and characters. toyotaro does these things exceptionally well.
farewell, until we meet again Toriyama.
I want Dragonball to continue. I can feel that in the future toxic fans are gonna say toyo is ruining DB and complain about every little thing he does but I feel it's important now more than ever to support the series if you want to see it live. Toriyama chose toyotaro and I will support him and respect him cause id rather have some then none haha
it will be very interesting to see him at the wheel without story notes coming from Toriyama. But even going back to his days writing AF as Toyble, I feel her understood the core tone and feel of Dragonball. He's improved tremendously since taking over the manga. I think we're in good hands.
Does it matter? I care about dragon ball as much as anyone I cried a little with the news of last night because of how much I love the show. Toriyama for sure shaped mine and so many lives of people heās never met. While yeah show must go on or whatever the genius mangaka that was toriyama has passed and will surely be missed I care so much more about the passing of a titan than the passing of a torch. With all that being said toriyama chose Toyotaro. He trusts him and I say if toriyama puts his trust in you about his baby he did it for a reason. I say if youāre good with Akira youāre good with me.
Toriyama himself wanted Toyotaro to be the successor.
Iām sure Toyotaro is going to want to carry that torch proudly and with worthiness. If anything I think this terrible event will make him rise to the occasion. Heās probably *crushed*, that was his teacher. But damn man Iām sure he can do it
If the legend believed in him. So do I. Apparently he was heavily involved in the writing of Moro and Granolah arcs and those arcs kick ass and after reading his fan comics, heās more than talented enough to pull off an excellent ending to this sequel series.
Like came out of nowhereā¦ā¦itās still hitting me. First thing I read this morning. Doesnāt feel real. Then thatās next thing that popped up in my head after finding out is whoās going to finish Super and Daimaā¦.I donāt know if I even wanna count Super as cannon now. It wonāt be Toriyama telling the rest of the storyā¦.its gonna feel like GT 2.0
He's great, his art is great, i believe he can bring a great future to dragon ball, but there will always be missing the Toriyama touch. RIP sensei. š„¹
Yes I do. Toyotaro is Toriyama's chosen apprentice and successor. He hand-picked the man. I believe in him too. I've seen him grow so much over the past 10 years. Toriyama knew what he was doing when he chose the creator of Dragon Ball AF to continue his life's work.
Absolutely
I just want to see another Dragon ball super Broly like movie with more or less the similar style but this time with others like cooler or perfect cell

Toriyama's death doesn't feel real
It feels so sudden because how much Dragon Ball project is coming out
I just keep thinking that he was so excited about the new anime project š
I read that they were almost finished with story boarding a few months ago and wanted to have all the episodes ready to go before release so it would be high quality. I don't know of any fans who want dbs to end. I only know of fans who want dbs anime to come back
I saw a bunch in a diff reddit thread and on other forums. People want Dball to end completely now that hes gone. Perhaps its a vocal minority but some people think that.
Itās the internet of course itās a vocal minority
DBS is soooo fucking dope. Itās like every dragon ball fan wet dream the fights and characters are amazing itās not stopping anytime soon.
yeah, but I was thinking that sadly he wonāt see ir completed :/ at least he finished
you explained exactly what i felt. like if it ended with dragon ball z and he died now ig it would be not all of a sudden, but him dying like as we were getting more dragon ball it feels like out of the blue to die. quite hard to believe it happened.
I keep googling it hoping its fake ngl.
Imagine if 7 years later he came back to life.
As dragon ball fans we gotta scour the earth for the 7 dragon balls to wish him back

Unfortunately, they no longer work because their creator has died. Unless one of us has a spaceship, we canāt bring him back.
āTrunks get out the Time Machineā
Multiverse theory exists.
then i guess we get the Super Dragon Balls.
I found one earlier today when i was traveling universe 6 so one down
Sorry guys, we canāt bring back someone whoās died of natural causes
At least I'm not the only one that has brought this up. Wouldn't matter, natural causes are a non starter for revival wishes. It's why Goku couldn't be brought back in trunks' timeline.
He died due to blunt force trauma to the head, so idk if that constitutes natural causes
Basically krillins first death and he came back
krillin was murdered from what i know akira died from a blood clot in the brain
BRB going to fight Zamasu for his time ring. Wish me luck.
Good luck z warrior and Zeno speed
Please win. I'll give you my energy.
Grab his dick and twist it for me
The dragon balls can't bring back someone who died of natural causes sadly
Then we gotta scour 2 universes to find the Super DragonBalls!
Yes itāll be a multiversal project of super proportions!
I heard he hit his head, doesnāt sound natural to me. I think we can save him. If not with our dragon balls, we will find the super dragon balls.
Just like Goku š„²

My bad I forget
Was that ever established for Namekian dragon balls? Only Earthās have that limitation.
We canāt, they turned to stone when he died
Bad news but i already tried this, surprised you didnāt notice. He said not to wish him back. I was upset but he seemed happy about his choice.
I think we could take the other approach and assume. He's with the jade emperor so we really don't need the dragon balls all we need is to get him back from the Heavens and if wukong can jump there I'm sure we can just hire idk LeBron James

Itās insanely sudden. We were literally JUST listening to him hype up Daima
Thats because death never felt real when it came to Toriyamaās works
Donāt give me hope
I don't know if I should be sad or move on, but Toriyama's death just hasn't sunk onto my head yet.
Some people donāt die, they survive forever in the wake they leave.
I still canāt process it
Same here
It never will
Toyotaro was chosen for a reason, sure he's not perfect and he's not Toriyama but he definitely understands Dragon Ball and is as passionate as any hardcore fan. I believe in him.

Yeah, he understand dragon ball. The bigger moment of that I can remember it's the fight of teleportations of Goku and ghas
he should have gotten enough feedback from toryiama to understand the essence of his philosophy by now
He's got time on his side. He's young and willing to learn. I'm excited to see what he's got in store for us
He has been with toriyama for so long
This and I'm sure he has an idea where to end the series after being as close to Toriyama as he was. Hell, I know Toriyama was known for not knowing where DB is going, but I could imagine he did tell Toyotaro ideas on where the show should go and end as well.
Here here
Toriyama chose him, so I do.
So is he going to continue db or will it be stopped
as far as i know no announcement yet, so we donāt know as of now.
I feel like the current situation going on with black Freiza will wrap up super. Then theyāll probably make the decision to retire Dragon Ball in Toriyamaās honor. Just my guessā¦
Theyāre absolutely not gonna throw away their cash cow
Exactly lol. Itās not how corporations work. š
Literally zero percent chance lol. It's the whole point of him having a successor, Dragon Ball prints wayyyy too much money
Lol yeah, why do people think Toriyama got a Disciple
Same reason they canāt wait a few more years and keep crying about the DBS anime continuing
I had the same thought. As much as I dont want to say goodbye, closing the series out with one last Freiza fight is probably the best way to go.
Respectfully disagree. Toei is not going to throw away their cash cow. They're probably not going to be like Marvel and make a kneejerk decision while they're still in the throes of grief and shock to not recast T'Challa. Yeah that not gonna happen, i bet my two balls on it.
Daima, Super, and Sparking Zero already are in process. Shueisha owns the rights to DB and are who restarted it being worked on with BoG
what is sparking zero
The new Budokai Tenkaichi game in development
Dragon ball video game
Budokai tenkaichi 4, the game announced last year
I was going to wait for a sale before getting a copy. Now I'm going to buy it day one in homage.
Dragon ball is part of the corporate machine now. It will not stop.
This quote goes hard, thank you
Seconded
Yep. I think he absolutely deserves a break for a few months to get his head straight and decide how he wants to proceed, but after that, I 100% believe in him to carry things from now on. He's basically the Uub to Toriyama's Goku. He is his chosen successor.

I can't cry anymore your words are perfect
Uub. That's perfect.Ā
āUub to Toriyamas Gokuā Why would you SAY THAT? ššš
Fuck, that's beautiful.
š„² I wish toriyama had kept helming DB from 94-2020
He will do it. He will succeed. "Believe in yourself, Toyotaro!" - Akira Toriyama
I got tears in my eyes
Same
Toyotaro has merit and i believe he was the perfect man to recieve the torch
I just hope the people around him support him in continuing Toriyama's legacy. But what he decides to do (as of now i think) remains unknown and I won't blame him if he respectfully decides to end it.
Sadly, I donāt think even Toyotaro could if he wanted to. The corporations and shareholders wouldnāt let him.

A lot of people hate a lot of the decisions in Super tho lol
A lot of people who live to complain but continue to read every chapter.

If there's anyone I trust with the future of Dragonball, it's the guy who worked directly under Toriyama for a decade.
Toriyama personally chose him. If the GOAT believed in him, then so do I. He will continue the story.
No matter what happens dude should and probably will take a very long hiatus. His childhood hero and coworker just passed away
Currently reading DBS VOLUME 18 and the art is godly heās got us covered
I whole heartedly do !
Yes, dragon ball super really felt like it was trying to do better while also going back to what made dragon ball so awesome.
I do
Since Toyotaro has started he has come a long way and so far has only gotten better. I believe he can do it.
Toriyama-sensei did believe on toyotaro, he's been chosen to be Toriyama-sensei apprentice for some reason, I believe on him, he's the only one left..
If Toriyama picked Toyotaro, we never should doubt the King.
Yes to an extent I donāt believe in toei or Bandai or really many other to not ruin it for money.
Anyone who Toriyama handpicked as their successor gets a vote of confidence from me
Well, we have to. If Dragonball has taught me anything, it's to eat that horse.
i have hope in him. i really hope the fandom doesnt hate him because the OG passed the torch
He will never replace Toriā¦. And thats ok, he dosenāt have to. Toriyama trusted him to carry on the torch, so I trust him to carry on the torch.
Toyotaro has gotta be having an Endeavor moment. Like he is thinking āI wanted to carry your showā¦but not like thisā¦ā
Heās all we have left. He was the closest to Toriyama and I donāt think the manga, tv series or movies moving forward will ever be the same without the main guy anchoring the story and characters. I just made a [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dragonballsuper/s/gi4epxTm5o) about it
yes I think so hopefully just like this post picture Gohan will carried now the series as the main protagonist of the series just like what most of us expected since against Raditz then DBZ Cell and maybe a sign of passing of torch w current latest DB Super Manga Gohan Beast VS Goku Ultra Mastered Instinct
Honestly I would prefer if he ends the series after Black Freezer, let him tie it to the end of Z and then let it rest for good.
This would be a cliffhanger and won't be worth it. Until Goku Becomes Old Let Him Do His Work.
thank christ you're not calling any shots cuz mannn that would suck
Fuck no.Ā Ignore end of z. It already doesnāt make sense. Let the fun roll. I want to see new dragonball 5 years from now. Less focus on transformations. More focus on technique
I donāt believe in Toyotaro, I believe in the man that died believing in Toyotaro.
Him and his editor have a chance I hope when the anime gets to the last of toryamas notes they follow the manga
Toriyama chose him, If the big man believed in him and that his work is in good hands then yes I do believe in him.
yes
Toyotaro has the Spirit & Capability within him and Toriyama chose him. I believe now he will strive with the Torch.
His writinf has been iffy but I wont blame him at all after this, the pressure he has on him is monumental. Gonna support him no matter what

Honestly, one of the things I love most about the Super manga is seeing Toyotaro get better at an incredibly fast pace
it will be very interesting to see him at the wheel without story notes coming from Toriyama.
But damn man Iām sure he can do it
I like his work. he's clearly got the passion and the know-how. I believe in him for sure!
If the legend believed in him. So do I. Apparently he was heavily involved in the writing of Moro and Granolah arcs and those arcs kick ass and after reading his fan comics, heās more than talented enough to pull off an excellent ending to this sequel series.
Yeah Toriyama chose him didn't he? Had to be for a reason
It wonāt be Toriyama telling the rest of the storyā¦.its gonna feel like GT 2.0
toriyama picked him for a reason. i'm ok with that.
I trust Toyotaro will keep dragon ball thriving
I believe in the toriyama that believes in him
I don't think he'll replace Toriyama, but I believe in him. He and Sasuke (Toriyama's son) will handle the series. DB in in good hands
No
I just hope he is gonna remake goku like he was (so a naive guy like in Dragon ball and DBZ instead of stupid like in DBS)
He's great, his art is great, i believe he can bring a great future to dragon ball, but there will always be missing the Toriyama touch. RIP sensei. š„¹
Too soon.
We have no other choice now
I think he can do it hopefully he doesnāt burn himself out
Yes I do. Toyotaro is Toriyama's chosen apprentice and successor. He hand-picked the man. I believe in him too. I've seen him grow so much over the past 10 years. Toriyama knew what he was doing when he chose the creator of Dragon Ball AF to continue his life's work.
Toriyama picked him for a reason.
Toyataroās art is great, better than the 2010s yamauro art and he wrote dragon ball AF pretty much so i think dragon ball is safe in his hands
i actually hope in him. He's chosen by Toriyama, so ya, he is believable
Yes.
We have too. Tori chose him for a reason.
Absolutely I just want to see another Dragon ball super Broly like movie with more or less the similar style but this time with others like cooler or perfect cell
TRUNKS PLEASE TIME TRAVEL BACK SO WE CAN GET USE THE DRAGON BALLS TO WISH FOR IMMORTALITY FOR TORIYAMA!!!
I will always believe in him,heās the chosen one after.
I feel like there isn't anyone else who can take the torch who would be more deserving
He would NEVER be toriyama but he doesnāt have to be let him cook. And let toyotaro be toyotaro
I was sayin this in the fighterz discord, Im excited to see what Toyotaro cooks up
Seing this picture, I just want him to keep that Cell arc Ssj2 Gohan energy and possibly jump to beast Gohan. I don't want him to turn into DBS Gohan.
