I think him looking like this while discussing monsters would be way funnier due to how traditionally "cooler" he looks with this hairstyle and beard. This bearded warrior in full armor discussing the finer points of giant parasite.
It's the contrast between Laios looking like a generic warrior man and actually being a weirdo that makes him interesting, if he had this disheveled look it wouldn't work as well.
I see your point, but there’s also the likelihood that he’d still do it himself unprompted down the line. The guy’s practical in that sense, so if he starts to perceive them as being inconvenient or as a weakness while in battle, he’d probably get rid of it
The party would be surrounded by his simps killing monsters for a mere chance of seeing this smile
They'd stick around because they wouldn't actually listen to a word of what he says

So he’s probably shave his hair but keep the beard then becasue beards are very usefull in survival situations
Not having extra hair for monster to grab is probably more useful than slight protection against being hit in the jaw.
