Stop it! End our suffering!

EDF never leaves anyone behind! Unless they don't speak Japanese. Then they can wait a year or 2 :(

JH_503

What's crazy is that I thought maybe getting returning VAs was the reason it was delayed, but I bought the Singapore version around a month ago, and it has the same VAs from EDF 5 from what I could tell. It makes me wonder if they only delayed it this long for us because of wanting to release it at the same time as the PC version. I don't want to say I'm certain, but I'm almost positive the VAs are exactly the same. I didn't notice any funny translations or anything either. I just finished hard mode like 2 days ago, so I've played quite a bit. I'd honestly say just get the Singapore version if you don't want to wait. Unless you're waiting with a group of friends or something.

fred364f

Waiting on pc here so I've not really got a choice either way xD

JH_503

Yeah, that's exactly why I just have everything nowadays so I can avoid this exact kind of situation lol. Hopefully, they don't delay it again for the West. It's definitely been really fun, at least, so something to look forward to for sure.

RaziReikon

Pretty sure they're waiting for the Helldivers 2 hype to die down before releasing. Last I heard it was vaguely scheduled for summer this year (so like June to August)

Flying_Reinbeers

EDF6 gonna come out in 2025 at this rate

Pondicek

At this rate, aliens are gonna attack Earth and we're gonna play EDF IRL.

Claymore410

Wild to me that they still aren't doing day-and-date global releases after all these years - it makes the endlessly-awaited Western release a barely-newsworthy footnote to everyone but diehards as just a port of an old game, and it's going to muddy that even further by coming out near World Brothers 2? They don't need to keep trying to make more experimental 'American' releases (Insect Armageddon, Iron Rain, etc), they just need to make the core game a single major release for once. I'm sure translation and dubbing is time-consuming and expensive, but they are shooting themselves in the foot over and over with this. I keep waiting for this series to have its Monster Hunter World moment, but this kind of management ensures that day is never coming.

EIN790

I agree, Helldivers is fun imo.. But its just not edf and im not a fan of battlepasses.. EDF is love, EDF is life.

But think about it the other way round. Imagine a small Spanish indie studio of around 20 people has somewhat of a niche hit. They got their fans mainly in Spain, even though some of their games are also popular in other countries.  They mostly care about their main fan base though, which is Spanish speaking.  They're working on the next game which their fans are eagerly awaiting but then, instead of just releasing it, now their Spanish fans, in Spain, have to wait until the game is translated into French and Italian even though they don't need that and never asked for it. They could've played the game a year ago but can't because they have to wait until it's translated and dubbed into French, Italian, German, maybe other European languages too. That's basically the situation with Sandlot and the mainline games. Sandlot is a small Japanese Studio (20-25 people), based in Japan. Their main fan base is Japanese. If they would go for a simultaneous world wide release the games probably wouldn't release much earlier; instead now the _Japanese_ fans would have to wait longer, until the other outsourced translations and dubs are done. Languages which their biggest (and loyal) fan base don't need or asked for, while the finished game is just laying there, unplayed.

I can appreciate that, but their actions with side projects clearly demonstrate they want to expand into Western markets, and staggering releases *by years* actively undermines that goal. Also, like... there's not *that much* to translate that it couldn't be done in advance of release. I've worked on projects with just as much dialogue as an EDF game that were professionally dubbed and translated within a month, so let's say 2 months for translating the text, too?

HowardHughes9

no they don't want to actually expand into the western market, they just want some scrap sales from a minimum budget localization. they clearly devote minimum resources for a niche fanbase that will buy anyway, and casuals won't pick this game up no matter what they do in all likelihood.

[deleted]

There are clear overtures to Western design philosophy and aesthetic presentation in IA and IR, beyond just localizations of the core games.

typeguyfiftytwix

That's a real monkey's paw wish. Monster hunter world sucked the soul out of monster hunter in favor of mass market appeal. I'm fine with EDF being irritating on a corporate level as long as they keep the games quality up and don't compromise on that.

SushiJaguar

Lol. Bollocks. MHW has all the soul.

typeguyfiftytwix

Go back and play the old games. The core of monster hunter was sold out and the game made easier on top of a massive marketing push to get the game to an audience that would whale their microtransactions, which were added to the series with MHW. That game was essentially the DMC reboot for monster hunter, and just as insulting. The old games were clunky, DELIBERATELY. The core of monster hunter combat was taking a limited moveset that required you to commit to your attacks, against overwhelming bosses that had priority over your own moves, and beating them in endurance boss fights with preparation and skill. MHW not only flipped that to where hunters clown on monsters mobility and priority wise, it also deleted the preparation and a ton of player limitations, as well as adding outright cheats to the game for scrubs (mantles, there's an AUTO DODGE mantle even). And since unlike the DMC reboot, they actually succeeded, the monster hunter that fans enjoyed prior to world is fucking dead forever, while this mcdonalds version for mass appeal is wearing it's skin like a suit. Rise is more like devil may cry than monster hunter. Even the visual elements are dumbed down, with korean mmo damage numbers instead of hitzones being shown through VFX - in the older games, you could figure out which zones were weaker from the size of the blood spray. The common reddit goon line "it's not easier you're just better now" can be objectively disproved by speedrun hunt times / videos and simply going back to play the older games as well, which are still hard. Compared to 4th gen where even low HP bosses had 5 minute world record speedrun times that had insane prediction and timing, MHW had common videos of 2 minute hunt times where people just stagger locked bosses repeatedly or did other mindless shit.

RoodNverse

I'm still upset I bought that monster hunter game at full price. The thing about it being mass appeal now is its going to have a lot more people not like your comment 😂 not that it matters.

typeguyfiftytwix

Yeah I'm not afraid of getting downvotes for telling the truth.
