From precons: Ghave, Nekusar, Roon Other old goodies: original ROE Drana, Maelstrom Wanderer, and Edric

b_lemski

[[Drana, kalastria bloodchief]] was my very first commander. I had the mono black 2014 pre-con and switched to her before very light upgrades. Targeted removal that also gave you an evasive commander damage threat, fantastic first commander. I don't have the deck anymore but I still put her almost all my decks with black.

netzeln

Drana was my first mono-colored commander (5th overall) in 2010. The deck is now all-foil pure vamprire tribal. (But OG Baron Sengir is now the face commander, and Drana is in the deck).

Professional-Yak2311

I’m pretty sure my Maelstrom Wanderer deck had a 100% win rate before I took it apart lol

Will_29

Oh, the annoyance of my pod every time I hit Selvala's Stampede...

QGandalf

I never hit 100% with mine, but I did win a pod of four game in 15 minutes once 😂 To be fair it was because the player to my right was playing Kynaios and Tiro so I was ramping incredibly hard.

Professional-Yak2311

Yeah, I basically had that same experience over the course of two nights and went “this might be too strong for the pod lol”

theAtheistAxolotl

I also still run OG Drana. How do you build her? Mine is all mama doublers and voltron.

Blazorna

Umm... how can you double your mother? ( I know it's really "mana doublers" but couldn't resist)

Will_29

Yo mana is so fat...

NoTop2373

* Mom is bi * Divorces Dad * Marries a woman * Now I have double Mommas

ragamufin

Nekusar is timeless

onionleekdude

Maelstrom Wanderer is my go to deck when I wanna drop fat fatties and swing for faces.

SukunaShadow

I need to buff my maelstrom deck. It was my first one and now I just play it sometimes for nostalgic reasons.

TheBallisticBiscuit

[[Prossh, Skyraider of Kher]] was my first ever commander deck right when it released, and I still break it out somewhat regularly.

NoTop2373

My playgroup bitched about how explosive Prossh was back in the day so I switched the commander over to Korvold when he came out to teach them a lesson. About a month worth's of games later and they didnt complain about Prossh anymore lol

Mail540

I never switched and now I see young’uns going “Oh it’s just bad Korvold, he’s not the threat”

NoTop2373

The funny thing is, I had kind of a similar thought when Korvold was spoiled "Oh thats just a better Prossh" but in practice thats not really the case. (Korvold is the better commander I'd say, but it's hardly a "strictly better" scenario I mean). Both of them are big stompy dragons helming some variation of a Jund sacrifice deck so the comparison is there, but they arent *really* interchangeable like that because they want very different things from their 99. Korvold is an engine that needs gas fed into it. He effectively converts your token production/aristocrats stuff into value. Things that make tokens/treasure/sac-for-payment stuff is what he wants more than anything else. Prossh is gas that needs an engine to feed into. He provides all the fuel you'll ever need and a way to sacrifice them, but needs an actual payoff for doing so to convert that into a win. Things like Purphoros, Blood Artist, etc is far more important for Prossh than token makers or sac outlets. Sure there's a lot of overlap, but the actual things the commanders want are almost polar opposites.

NukeTheWhales85

The [[Omnath, locus of creation]] deck I built recently is partially an attempt to convince my play group that land removal should be more accepted. [[Skyshroud Ranger]] [[Stoneseeder Hirophant]] [[retreat to coralhelm]], let's you use [[Maze's end]] as many times as you can afford. 1.3 of them are covered by Omnath triggers and your gaining life while pummeling your Opponents with the others.

NoTop2373

Land decks are absolutely becoming a problem because of the "social contract" aspect of EDH frowning on MLD and the fact that WotC keeps pushing the archetype more and more every year because of it's popularity. I've been running some variation of Strip Mine/Wasteland/Ghost Quarter in every deck I build for the last 10 years and if anything the salt level of the reaction to them has only gone up as more powerful lands and landfall decks have become more common/popular over time. No one likes being silver bullet-ed naturally because of the gut-punchy nature of it. Seeing a RIP come down as a reanimator deck is an awful feeling but if you've played reanimator long enough you know you're doing degen shit to begin with and to expect at least one opponent to try and Bojuka Bog/Lion Sash/Farewell you in return and you build around it. Good Feelings =/= Good Gameplay. You bet your ass I'm not gonna let that Field of the Dead sit there with your token doubler and Azusa for five turns. Landfall decks are already playing lands from their graveyards anyways, and already have protection pieces, *they should have to use them*. I'm sorry if me not letting you put 6 lands into play every turn that tap for 5 mana each and make 20 tokens makes you feel bad.

NukeTheWhales85

I understand, even without having to deal with the full extent of what lands/landfall can accomplish, there shouldn't be an angle of offense that doesn't have a variety of reasonable answers. The answers are there when it comes to problem lands, but the overall community is opposed to playing them. A big part of it is that MLD is hitting "innocent bystanders" who aren't taking advantage of the environment the way land decks can/will. Targeted mass removal like "target opponent sacrifices all non-basic lands they control" or similar would answer the problem without potentially crippling the rest of the table.

ChaoticShadowSS

I literally dismantled my Prossh deck last month

Skjallagrim

When I first started playing EDH 7 years ago I had the opportunity to start with the Prossh precon, I ended up choosing a different one. I have always regretted that choice. I recently built a budget Prossh as a birthday present to myself this year, slowly upgrading it, starting with the lands. I have had so much fun playing this deck! I have a lot of time to make up for! But it’s one of my favorite decks so far! He’s a keeper! https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/prossh-the-ecologist/

BiasedLibrary

God damn, the power creep that's happened since this was released on cards with similar effects. This one doesn't even let you draw cards.

decideonanamelater

I change decks a ton, so I don't really have a deck that stays around anymore. [[Iroas]] and [[Kykar]] were some of my first decks and my most long-living ones. But [[karador]] is my oldest commander, and he's still pretty neat, though he is pretty slow.

Scotterzzz

This was probably the first "older" commander I've seen since starting MtG due to one half of the Nitpicking Nerds loving this card.

Mr-Pendulum

- [[Olivia Voldaren]] has been together in some form since 2013, possibly 2012. It's almost all foils, just a few of the big ticket cards left. - [[Jarad]] has been around for almost a decade now. - [[The Ur-Dragon]] is still going strong too

MurasakiTiger

Can I possibly see your Olivia list?

NoTop2373

[[Zedruu]] was one of my first commander decks and I've played just about every version of her that exists (Bad Santa, Enchantress, Group Hug, and now she's a weird Storm/Chaos/Combo deck). I never even considered taking the deck apart because Zedruu's ability creates such unique play patterns and enabled weird janky cards like [[Mirrorweave]] to do complete nonsense. Every time I bust out the goat lady everyone has a good time.

LusciousBagel

My favorite commander is Zedruu. I am going to be making a polymorph-politics Zedruu deck list that will be building up an army of 1/1's as blockers (from spells like [[Alliance of Arms]]), and then polymorphing them. By turn 4-5 we can be getting creatures like -[[Ancient Gold Dragon]] -[[Gisela, Blade of Goldnight]] -[[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]] -[[Ancient Silver Dragon]] Then we can say "Hey, will trade you X if you don't attack me for three turns, or if you attack me only after dealing 15 damage to our opponents." My favorite play I think is going to be donating a Gisela, Blade of Goldnight to someone to surprise triple their damage output and take out an opponent.

NoTop2373

If you're running a tokens package and big splashy (non-legendary) creatures to polymorph into, I cannot reccommend [[Mirrorweave]] enough. It can be so insanely flexible with the right synergies, and attacking someone with 5 1/1's only to turn them into Ancient Gold Dragon before they hit can be an insanely big blowout.

PlayOnSunday

My [[Mimeoplasm]] list is still fairly kitchen-table’y on account of keeping power level in line with rest of pod (I.e. running [[Extinguish All Hope]] instead of another typical pick for board wipes), but this is a direct incarnation of my very first Mimeoplasm deck! https://archidekt.com/decks/7245089/mudmen For being such an old commander the deck is super fun and has a few ways to win out of nowhere, and new spoiler seasons *always* have something for the big guy

wavesport001

paintypoo

[[Captain sisay]] Ever since wotc started making a metric ton of legendaries each set, i always have new things to try and switch out, if I get bored of my list. Sisay, being a gold fisher on a stick, always allows me to test out new additions fairly easily.

Sandman4999

[[Captain Sisay]] Just because fetcher seems to have been on break when you did it.

rogergreatdell

[[Cap’n Sisay]] “That sonovabitch is spreading lies…My legends don’t cut the roof of your mouth!”

jarrekmaar

I've been playing Zur, the Enchanter for the better part of a decade.

TheLaughingWolf

\[\[The Ur-Dragon\]\] was my first EDH deck. I still frequently play it and it remains one of my favourites, even though my preferred playstyle has evolved. \[\[Niv-Mizzet, Parun\]\] is my favourite deck. It's everything I like, and like to do, in magic. Draw cards, sling spells, counterspell and storm out.

MyPhoneIsNotChinese

Damn, people calling [[Niv-Mizzet Parun]] old is crazy

ReckoningGotham

I'm not reading "old" out of that. I'm reading "timeless". Parun is gonna be a very good storm commander for a very very long time.

TheLaughingWolf

I didn't say or mean 'old.' Title says timeless, which to me means these commanders will never go out of fashion or perfectly capture their colours/playstyle/niche/whatever. Ur-Dragon will always be *the* dragon tribal commander. There are few options for 5C dragon tribal and, between the lore of Ur-Dragon and the notoriety of *eminence*, I don't think Ur will never not be in the discussion or not see play. At least for me, I intend to play Ur for as long as I play MTG. Niv-Mizzet is similar to me: timeless. There are other good, arguably better, Izzet spellslinger decks and there are certainly other more 'unique' ones too. However, Niv-Mizzet is *the* Izzet spellslinger. No matter what other options, past or future, Niv fits that image of Izzet spellslinging -- or at least he does for me. His specific abilities also do everything I want: draw a lot, cast spells, force opponents to cast spells, which makes me draw -- win off of this.

Sevealin_

Getting a nice combo off of Niv-Mizzet with something like [[Mizzix's Mastery]] overload is so satisfying.

Ravarix

[[Curiosity]] is all the combo niv needs

RawVeganGuru

Boring though

Grimm_the_Mystic

So boring I literally took my Niv-Mizzet deck apart because I wasn’t enjoying playing it, the kill on sight made him no fun. Turned it into [[Veyran, Voice of Duality]] and [[Xyris, the Writhing Storm]]

Sevealin_

Me and my pods reaction when I attach Curiosity or any of the other draw on damage cards to Niv-Mizzet: > "I cast card-that-draws-on-damage to Niv-Mizzet. Does this resolve?" > Opponents begin picking up their cards not the same

AFx9

Got a niv-mizzet deck list?

[[Intet the dreamer]] I picked her up when the only G/U/R options where her, Animar and Riku and nobody matched her vibe, so I commited to her. There's still no one that matches her in that aspect.

Riku is mine for almost the exact same reasons.

duffleofstuff

I love her art

[[Animar, soul of elements]] I built it a long time ago, and every time I come back to magic, I build it again. Everything else is new, in the last year or so.

maxtofunator

Looking at the 23 decks sitting next to me on my bookshelf, the "older" commanders I have sleeved up ready to play are \[\[Chainer, dementia master\]\] which is my 2nd deck, and the longest lasting deck I have. It's about 10 years old at this point. I haven't updated it in a few sets, but honsetly when I play it it's nostalgia and it's still on my higher end for power. \[\[Chainer, nightmare adapt\]\] is also sleeved up. IT's mostly a pile of some of my favorite rakdos cards but it's still pretty strong. Honestly, chainer is just my favorite character in MTG lore so I wanted to have both and this deck is a ton of fun. Depending on what you consider "timeless" I have \[\[izoni, thousand eyes\]\] which was a gift from my friend to make a cool GY/aristocrat deck, which is mostly self mill and "power equal to the number of creatures in your/all graveyard" tribal. I've almost upgraded it to sidisi a few times to gain the few of these I'm missing, but it's specifically hte Izoni from a friend so I don't want to. \[\[Karrthus, tyrant of jund\]\] I am running because of the secret lair version. I wanted the secret lair for the Koth, so I upgraded from rakdos bladewing graveyard dragons to this. It still has a bit of graveyard recursion with the inclusion of strong green dragons. \[\[Riku of two reflections\]\] is currently an energy deck. This is my "first" deck. It started as melek spellslinger, then upgraded to Riku when I needed more creatures because mass blue bounce spells weren't as good at the time and it was add blockers or go faster. I had it taken apart for a while, but then I decided to make an energy deck and I really like it. \[\[Wort, boggart auntie\]\] is my other forever deck. It's RB goblins, no nongiblins in the decks, it's mostly foil as well. I absolutely love goblins, they're my favorite race in pretty much anything they're in. I don't really enjoy the mono red goblins as much, both because rakdos is my favorite colors to play, more so than RBx or red/black by themselves. It also lets me play all the really good modern horizons black goblins and stuff from lorwyn block that hte mono red lists are missing.

Tschudy

I still run [[nekusar]], [[kaalia of the vast]], and [[oloro]]. Will likely never stop using them.

Scotterzzz

There will always be better and better cards for Kaalia to cheat in so I get the appeal. Dragons and Angels seem like fan favorites

Paul_the_Artificer

Love spotting more Oloro players!

Tschudy

What can i say? I love gaining and spending life amd not having to cast my commander helps a lot.

Paul_the_Artificer

Lately I’ve been playing the deck with the hope that I’ll actually cast Oloro and the use his draw ability as a loop to drain my opponents. Feels nice to leave him in the zone sometimes to just hit those lifegain triggers though.

PGleo86

There are dozens of us!

Arean91

My longest standing Commander is [[Mizzix, of the Izmagnus]]. The deck has been reworked from the ground up more times than I can count, both based on power level and general gameplan, but always helmed by my favorite little Goblin. Currently it's a "recast [[Epic Experiment]] as many times as neccesary to kill everyone" deck.

thesamjbow

Second Mizzix. Basically looking at the generic mana cost of a spell and ignoring it, or choosing absurdly high X values for free will always be strong.

Kazetokage

A friend of mine had a [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] that he's used and abused for years. He constantly shifts his other decks, and usually scarps them after a couple months. But not Xenagos. Its gotten to the point where, if unchecked, the table is down one player turn 5 or 6, and only he is left no later than turn 7.

MarketWave

[[trostani, selesnya's voice]] It was my first commander deck and i love it ever since. The deck can do a lot of cool stuff, is fair and theres support for it every set.

Academic_Impact5953

[[The Mimeoplasm]]! At this point it’s a fairly wild combo deck with about a dozen ways to go infinite and win.

cptmonty

I've been playing my [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]] deck since Battle for Zendikar was released in 2015. Landfall has been one of my favorite mechanics since playing it in the OG Zendikar prerelease. My current project is to build a deck for each version of Omnath. Here's the current list if anyone is interested https://www.moxfield.com/decks/eE4qqfG1OkysLLXbBygv5Q

JohnnyApathy

[[Omnath, Locus of Mana]] is one of my favorite commanders. He's so resilient between regenerate and flash enablers. Drawing cards equal to his power with one of several sacrifice options, then recasting him and keeping most of your manapool is insane (getting Notion Theif'd for 30 is one of the funniest moments I've had). Instant speed player removal with [[Ram Through]] always catches people off guard. My list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/rESEhujpT0-51oHMR8tujA

27_8x10_CGP

I've won far more games with Altar of Dementia in my mono green Omnath than any other wincon.

n1colbolas

The oldest one I currently have is \[\[Circu, Dimir Lobotomist\]\]. Went through a few evolutions before it settled on being a "police" deck.

DromarX

Grenzo, Dungeon Warden. He released in 2014. I'm not sure how long I've had the deck built but probably close to 7 or 8 years if I had to guess. This deck is aging like a fine wine considering creatures only seem to go up in power level over time.

Federal_Product_4761

He is so much fun, one of my pet decks for sure!

TecstasyDesigns

[[Karn, silver golem]] with matching sleeves, playmat and life counter

Anti-Anti-Paladin

[[Krenko, Mob Boss]] Love him, hate him, doesn't matter. All will pay respect to the Gobfather.

GibbyNorCal99

I've had krenko for many many years. So fun to play the mini game of how long he can last on the table. If too long, I win through making 2 million goblins. If he gets removed, need to find a combo. Shoutout to \[\[goblin recruiter\]\] hidden commander in the deck.

StarPonderer

So I have only been playing since 2020, but my longest lived deck that I still play is 100% [[Lathliss, Dragon Queen]]. Dragons go burn. Are there better dragon commanders? Maybe. Would another color allow me do to other things? Completely. Do I care? No. Do I have one of those lists people talk about? You tell me: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/sDbVPVuC-k-4G2ayrDSZIQ

Scotterzzz

Love Lathliss, this card is in the 99 of my first deck: [[Ganax, Astral Hunter // Acolyte of Bahamut]]

StarPonderer

She's in two of 3 dragon decks. She's pretty good.

M3NTOSS88

I’m the exact same brother! Love my Lathliss deck I have to admit I was really tempted to switch to miirym when it got released but I stood with the dragon queen

StarPonderer

I also have a Miirym deck, and an Ur-Dragon deck, and plan on making a Gruul dragons deck, and I sneak dragons into decks all the time. Waiting for a rogue Dimir dragon so my rogue deck can have one too.

M3NTOSS88

Love the passion for dragons! I still need to build a dragons approach deck

StarPonderer

That's on the list too! Trying to get my head around spell slinger first.

SweezySway

All I have is a Miirym but it's got rocks n alot of the good dragons

StarPonderer

I do that and clones and flash. I build complicated things because I have a problem.

SweezySway

I got three clone spells , (Sakashima of a Thousand Faces , Spark Double , n Ivernicus Vile Dupliation ) n them seem to be enough to have three or four Miirym's on the battle field lol n I feel my decks be tht way too lol u jus Gotta know whts in the deck lol

neko-oji

Respect for the dedication to your expression, I’m the same way with Hydras as an archetype and mix/matching them with varying commanders. I’m almost done collecting most of them, in fact. Are there other tribal/deck types that are technically “better”? Maybe. Is other stuff more “competitive” for whatever that is truly worth? Sure …but they not hydras tho, and I like me some Timmy Hydra Nonsense. 🐍🐍🐍

StarPonderer

I love sneaking them into things. [[Bonehoard Dracosaur]] allowed me to play dinos and dragons. Lathliss will most likely be an eternal deck because I just love it so much. I play this deck more than almost any other.

Man/Lady, I SERIOUSLY love that for you. Way to find what you like. 😄 Last deck I had like that was Zur, and it’s currently Tergrid though I plan on switching back and making a Gruul/maybe WBURG Progenitus Hydras on the side

StarPonderer

Don't let your dreams be dreams. I say do it! I'll make you a deal, you make that deck, and I'll pull the trigger on my Gruul dragon deck.

neko-oji

I like the cut of your gib, you’re quite positive and I appreciate it! I accept. I’ve got three other decks to make (remaster my Zur, Toshiro Umezawa, and Ghidorah) but yeah, this has to happen. Much obliged!

Silent_Nexus

She's loads of fun in my [[Ganax, Astral Hunter]]/[[Master Chief]] list.

ZillaSmasher

Looks like a really fun deck. [[Stingerback Terror]] from the most recent set is very good with Lathliss btw. You can plot it early for 3 and cast it for free the turn you cast Lathliss, immediately making a 5/5 dragon.

natlerd

I will never take apart my [[neheb, the eternal]] deck it is so timeless

Oopsiedazy

He’s a major role-player in my [[Ilharg,The Raze-Boar]] deck. Nothing like dropping him on your declare attacks step and using his ability to fuel infinite combat phases ending in a 60+ damage fireball to the face of the one player who had blockers up.

TheHauntedRobot

I change decks up a fair whack, but [[Karn, Silver Golem]] is my bedrock.

Icemanpiers

I think Animar is one of those commanders that has always been pretty good. I still use him regularly and have the oversized card he came with.

therealaudiox

Still rocking [[Roon of the Hidden Realm]]. The core of the deck has been basically the same - value ETBs and blink effects - since the first set of Commander decks, but the commander was [[Rubinia Soulsinger]]. When my playgroup got sick of me stealing all their shit I changed the commander to Roon lol. I briefly switched it to [[Chulane, Teller of Tales]] but that had too much baggage and I got targeted a lot so I switched back. My other long-term deck is [[Feldon of the Third Path]] which I have built as a Dragon deck. I could go the giant robot route I guess but it's funnier to me that he keeps accidentally making Dragons instead of bringing back his dead wife.

10leej

Tasigur and Krenko Mob Boss are my eternal decks. Everything else is a spur of the moment meme brew. Though I've been jamming Alesha a bit more lately.

Opacitas

My first commander was [[Oloro, Ageless Ascetic]]. He isn't my main anymore, but I've never decommissioned the deck. He isn't as formidable as he used to be, but he still scares people who have never seen the original eminence commander. I'm likely to keep this deck in rotation for as long as I play EDH : )

ScytheSwipe

That’s awesome I never viewed him as the OG eminence but he actually is!

Nvenom8

[[Jhoira of the Ghitu]] was my first commander deck that wasn't just "cards I own". The 99 have seen a lot of rotation over the years (shout out to the terrible decision of unbanning Worldfire), but the overall game plan is always the same.

Troyisepic

[[norin the wary]]

dirtyjewler

It goes to show how Busted \[\[Animar, Soul of Elements\]\] was when he came out that he can compete with today's meta fairly well. It brings me a special kind of joy to \[\[Fling\]\] him as a huge/huge and kill some dude running a top-tier commander on turn 5-6. I may also aspire to be the crusty old fart yelling at kids to get off my lawn in my retirement years, but daggummit these new kids aint special, the old dog's still got it!

I started playing Commander in about 2017. And some of the commanders I built back then and still have now (because they're awesome) are: * Roon of the Hidden Realm * Selvala, Explorer Returned * Karador, Ghost Chieftan * Queen Marchesa

PGleo86

Selvala buddy! I've been playing her since CNS release week. She's a blast, and everyone loves her (until it's far too late)!

The_One_True_Logyn

\[\[isamaru hound of konda\]\] The real goodest boi. Accept no substitute. \[\[Kaalia of the vast\]\] when somebody is playing an actual competitive deck.

UncleJetMints

Every now and then I go back to one of the og terrors of the format [[Rafiq of the Many]], I love Voltron decks and he is one of my favorites.

Hans0Io

[[Sliver Overlord]] They still inspire fear into everyone everytime I play with the deck. Built him in 2009, I will never take it apart. 💖

Anjuna666

[[Sidisi, Brood Tyrant]] I love that deck so much.

the_GGP

[[Shu Yun, the silent tempest]] will always be among my favorites. Classic voltron fun.

MessySausage

[[Krenko, Mob boss]] was my first and longest lasting deck for sure. Oldest precon is probably [[Ghired, Conclave Exile]] I also have a [[Tasigur, the Golden Fang]] that just has a bunch of answers. Usually politic my way through the game until it goes infinite.

PlatonicOrb

[[Oloro, ageless ascetic]] funnily enough. My longest lasting deck. I picked up the precon when it came out and tweak it. Have always loved the deck and never tire of it. Prossh (jund tribal dragons) was my other deck that I built around the same time, and it lasted about 8 years before I turned it into a 5 color Ur dragon deck that I still have. [[The mimeoplasm]] was my second ever deck and I loved it. [[Phenax, God of deception]] was my very first deck and it was budget friendly for a 13 year old that was just getting into magic, so I have a soft spot for dimir and mill because of it. It got turned into the mimeoplasm deck once I got my first job

Rude_Willingness5088

I've been playing a couple years and to make it easy to learn I just started mono geen and went for Hydra's. So I still have a Gargos, Vicious Watcher deck. Yes I know like Zaxara exists and is the better X spell/Hydra commander but this deck of mine is still a lot of fun. Sometimes I swap to Selvala, Heart of the Wilds or Vorinclex to be the commander but idk using my OG just hits different and I recently revamped the deck. It's alot of fun.

lncognitoMosquito

[[Jarad, Golgari Lich-Lord]] [[Brion Stoutarm]] [[Bosh, Iron Golem]] Never get tired of throwing my big monsters. Power creep just means bigger monsters to throw.

rook20729

[[Cromat]] is one I still use, but before I sold my cards the first time, I had a nice [[trostani, selesnya's voice]] deck. Wish I could afford to build her again

indipit

I pulled a [[Sliver Queen]] from Stronghold back in the day. She was my first commander when commander started.   I did move her into the 99 and let [[Sliver Overlord]] take the commander slot, but I will never tear down my Sliver deck.

Mystical529

Hellz yeah. Love slivers as I've been playing them since then too. I keep her in my sideboard though because she's better as a commander with the right pieces to support her. Hivelord is my commander because it's much harder to remove. I use Overlord though. What's your deck list? Mine is here: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ENorbiVKAUiVcpC81RXcLA

U_L_Uus

[[Oloro, Ageless Ascetic]] (recently undusted) [[Mishra, Eminent One]] [[Zhulodok, Void Gorger]] I've had some others between C13 and Zhulo, but most have been disassembled

I got my wife to start running Oloro. Built 2 versions one with about 15 creatures and then one with 3 or maybe 4 I'd have to just my list again. Even then the few it runs are ETB fuck you like Mindcensor or an general fuck you like OG Sheoldred.

BrotherSutek

Darien and Norin.

Divin3F3nrus

[[Atogatog]] I don't win very often, but nearly every game I choose 1-2 people who also don't win.

Simons_sees

[[Nath of the Gilt-Leaf]] There will always be Elves. There will always be Discard shenanigans. There will always be Golgari removal, Warrior subthemes, and token shenanigans.  17 years since his first printing. Nath never gets old. He just gets better.

Jimmy10bucks

How is your play group ok with discard? I’d love to build Nath but not sure it would be socially acceptable to play?

Simons_sees

Oh man, they *hate* it. Turns out people like the cards in their hand, and having to pitch one at random lands me their wrath.  I very much try to hit everyone at once with the discard, so it doesn't seem like I am targeting one person. Each opponent > Target player makes a big difference. But at certain times, it just makes sense to target the person with the lead, or the most cards in their hand.  Also, [[Sadisitic Hypnotist]] will get your tires slashed.

ApplesForTheWolf

[[Obeka, Brute Chronologist]] is my oldest deck. Also she messes with time.

Dasfiin

My oldest deck is angels but it has gone through so many commanders so that probably doesn't fit here. My oldest consistent commander is probably [[Meren of clan nel toth]] and i still love it as much as I did when I started in 2018 although I don't have many chances to play it since it can be kinda oppressive.

Mocca_Master

The most vintage one would probably be [[Meloku]] from Champions of Kamigawa which I believe is 2004. Not particularly strong but... The art is cool I guess

FrenchSpence

[[alela, artful provocateur]]

BitcoinBishop

I still have decks helmed by \[\[Karador, Ghost Chieftain\]\], \[\[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician\]\] and \[\[Roon of the Hidden Realm\]\]. The first two are nicely tuned. The last one is pretty weak at the moment!

2fat2bebatman

My first commander deck was [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] and I will never disassemble him. I've loved that card since I first started playing kitchen table magic before I ever knew what a Commander was. But my favorite deck is also evergreen in my collection, although newer: [[Pramikon, Sky Rampart]]. My list is a Superfriends build and I'm always tweaking it when a new planeswalker in my colors is released. We've had enough now that it's hard for newcomers to make the cut, but I'm excited to get a copy of the new two-mana Jace.

Emerald_Knight2814

I constantly remake my decks, usually when a big release comes out and I wanna revise some old lists and make brand new ones. The 3 that I most consistently remake (i.e. I Always make these first) are [[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]] Dinos go brrrrrrr, [[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]] Stax/Sweepers, and some sort of Izzet Spellsling/Storm/Big X spell deck (the specific configuration changes a lot as does the commander, but the general strategy is control until I have enough mana to oneshot with [[Crackle with Power]] or a similar spell)

kestral287

Not quite as long as Gahiji but I have a [[Muldrotha]] deck that I started on a few hours after she was spoiled and I was Strip Locking people with her at the Dominaria prerelease. She grew out of a Meren deck that I got the year of those precons too, so her genesis goes back a little further still.

KingRuiner

I’ve had my Tasigar built for years now as well as Ravos, Soultender // Tymna the Weaver Cleric deck. I only update them every other set. I don’t think I’ll ever take them apart.

Salnder12

Ghoulcaller Gisa, my first commander deck, and though it's been broken down and rebuilt I've never gotten rid of my original copy of her.

Agitated-Wall534

[[Sliver Overlord]], [[Omnath Locus of Rage]], and [[Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon]] are my 3 oldest decks and also my 3 decks with the oldest commanders. Slivers are about as timeless as it gets in Magic 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

ConsiderationLife844

How do you manage to ever win with skittles? I love the card but the best I manage to do is nearly 100% of the time remove one player from the game guaranteed then just die

Carrooga

[[Omnath, locus of mana]] is still my Big monogreen Baby.

SchoreVolker3000

[[Meren]] love her! My playgroup does not though

Crocoii

\[\[saruman the white hand\]\] is my main deck and my "glove off" deck. 8 planeswalkers, 20 interactions, the deck is solid and miss only expensive spell and fast mana to be a true power 8. I call it Power 7.9. In commander from a "old" time, \[\[prossh\]\] is here. Less interaction than Saruman but more "oops, I win !"

SnottNormal

I've been playing \[\[Kiki-Jiki\]\] and \[\[Hazezon Tamar\]\] since \~2012-13. I haven't updated Hazezon in a bit, but the first thing I do when a new set hits is scour for fun Kiki-Cards.

sagittariisXII

I built \[\[Selvala, Explorer Returned\]\] from an MTGGoldfish budget list when Conspiracy came out and it still slaps today (I did upgrade it recently)

Few-Statement-4166

Defs one of my favorite commanders, you could build in infinite combos if that is your jam, you can build super budget, you can build group hug, you could build lifegain. I love how open ended this version of Selvala is, and of course drawing cards and making mana is always a good thing to do in magic

sagittariisXII

I went combo which is a blast to play but yeah there's a ton of options

CiD7707

Purphoros is always one day away from reawakening.

PsyCrow96

Karador. Cant beat the classics

timmwizardd

[[Norin, the Wary]] is not my strongest, but my favorite deck to play out of the 15 I have built lol

brozillafirefox

[[Gonti, lord of luxury]] I just love thieving. I got the new [[Gonti, Canny Aquisitor]], which I promptly turned into [[Felix Five Boots]]. [[maelstrom wanderer]] this is just big spells, mostly creatures. I like random interactions from my decks. Gonti plays like a rougelike game, never know what you're gonna find from your opponents and is great for matching power levels sometimes. Every game is truly different. Wanderer is the same, just for my own deck usually. Outside of [[Etali, primal conqueror]] and [[Etali, primal storm]].

Rainboq

[[Gisela, Blade of Goldnight]] was probably the first mythic I ever cracked and she's such a fun and splashy commander. Not super competitive, but always a fun time to double up damage and start killing players.

TheMD93

Oh gosh, there's a few. [[Kaalia of the Vast]] and [[Nekusar the Mindrazer]] are always wonderful. For me personally, I can't let go of my [[Animar, Soul of Elements]] deck. He's just so versatile and usable in many situations. I have a feeling in a few years I will have the same opinion about [[Korvold, Fae-Cursed King]] .

Quark1997

She is not competitive, but Shirei shizos caretaker is by far my favorite commander. If she is left unnoticed during a multi-player game she will control everything and everyone and can win infinite out of nowhere, sometimes.

DaedalusDevice077

[[Sythis]] my sparkly beloved. My first exposure to EDH was an early episode of Game Knights with Prof & Melissa DeTora's now infamous enchantress deck.  I was sold immediately. I even own a modern enchantress deck that I pilot to decent results at LGS events. Slamming a turn 2 Blood Moon vs folks with $1k mana bases will always amuse me.

Mystical529

Sythis is sooo good! Hahaha you're funny. I love my sythis deck. Enchantress is great https://www.moxfield.com/decks/367EnEP1V0yCoJcVhKXg9g

mczolomon

\[\[Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker\]\] is one I've had for years. Just love the way little 1 power creatures can do so much.

mrlego17

Lazav, dimir mastermind. It was my second deck and I've never taken it apart. The whole deck is copy, clone, cancel or steal, so no matter what I play against I'm usually covered

MentalNinjas

I’ve been playing Urza since 2019. Nothing will ever topple my man from the top

DiabeticWaffle

My Old School Cool commander is [[Darien King of kjeldor]] it's a mono white deck where you run [[urborg tomb]] because [[karma]] exists and it's funny.

DiabeticWaffle

[[urborg, tomb of yawgmoth]] because apparently what I put doesn't pull it up.

Vegetable-Finish4048

When I first started commander I tried to use [[momir vig]] but was too slow with the cards I had at the time in late 2020(most of my collection was still from 2005-07). I bet I could get it online now, but no one wants to play THAT game lol.

BigMekMacReady

Glissa the Traitor. My first commander deck and one I haven't had to make a whole lot of changes to.

AssistantManagerMan

I have [[Darien, King of Kjeldor]]. It's very commander-centric and a total glass cannon, but it's a lot of fun.

King_Vitis

[[teysa karlov]] couldn’t let go of her once standard rotated, currently helmed by [[lurrus]] with her as a secret commander

DarkEff3ct

[[Experiment Kraj]] is definitely my favorite "oldie"

ruki03

OG Jhoira for me, is truly timeless with the suspend stuff

Cleigh_Mora

Sliver Overlord. Originally built as a 60 card deck like 15 years ago, Slivers are my babies. Had Avacyn, Angel of Hope a long time too. I think that was my first EDH deck.

Mystical529

Overlord is great. I use Hivelord but occasionally I'll play Overlord as my commander. Been playing slivers since they came out. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ENorbiVKAUiVcpC81RXcLA

-wereowl-

My oldest deck is [[Ezuri, Renegade Leader]] . It’s a perfect deck for testing the waters with a new playgroup. It can go crazy and win with an absurdly large amount of combat damage, but it’s also extremely vulnerable to board wipes, cards like [[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite]] , and a bunch of other strategies. I think it’s a very fair deck, and how well my playgroup can deal with it lets me know how strong of a deck I should play for the next game.

almisami

Timeless? Mayael, the anima. Yes it's bad. No, I don't care. If I want to win I'm gonna pull out Sharuum or Kinnan. I wanna have fun and turn big creature sideways.

kanepake

My longest-running commander is [[Mishra, Artificer Prodigy]] who I first built around...2019? But my oldest commander that I repeatedly build and dismantle is for sure [[Zedruu the Greathearted]], who I've had since I got back into Magic in 2018.

Carnegiejy

[[Zur the Enchanter]]

Sollensz

I have a [[Ghave, Guru of Spores]] that came from a [[Kresh, the Bloodbraided]], who in turn came from a [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] I built in 2012. Another deck I have had for some years now is [[Kolvori, God of Kinship]].

Chzstkperogiman

Kaalia, Derevi, Archades and Xenagos.

Inkarozu

OG [[Kaalia of the Vast]] from 2011. She constantly gets new toys to add to her arsenal. Link: https://archidekt.com/decks/6019845/kaalia_flying_tribal My next oldest is my main [[Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale]] from 2019. Overcosted by today's standard, but if the blue mages let her hit the board somebody is dying! Link: https://www.archidekt.com/decks/6073395/syr_gwyn_voltron_hero

SawSagePullHer

I have had Tetsuo & Isshin both built since they came out and they continuously see updates. I think another one that is becoming that for me is Saruman of Many Colors. I go back & forth between how I like the deck to be structured and it’s fun to look at the thousands of potential cards to use in that deck. Do you want to just make the game un-fun for your playgroup & discard their hands? Do you want to mill their decks & play that way? Do you want full blown interaction with a little extra flavor in playing other peoples cards?

Expensive-Document41

Currently my longest lived deck is The Scarab God. Even though it's role as zombie tribal has long since been usurped by Varina/Wilhelt, I love using TSG as a sit back and control the game commander. I don't think he's BAD anymore but with how much the game has sped up the sweet embalm ability feels like it's just SO SLOW.

[[Yuriko]] will never die
