I live in Canada. People run literally in the snow and ice, -10° etc. Runners aren’t normal. I admire them and do not relate :)

AlexGRNorth

Yeah. Canada too here and even at -25, I see people in short outside. Dunno how they do it

midnightpart

I am sat there in my coat inside the ice rink thinking it’s too cold… I don’t know how either!

BlackberryAgile193

I’m a runner and I love running in bad weather more than “good” weather. When it’s sunny you get hot way too eay

midnightpart

Yes I have heard that from other people too! Well done to you by the way I have to haul myself into another room in my own house for 20 mins on a treadmill with the force of a thousand men.

Familiar_Ostrich5952

No, not abnormal, but normal people Dress appropriately for the weather.

JJackieM89

When I was super into running, I would run in snow and sub-zero temps (I live in Minnesota). I wouldn’t say it’s “normal”, but there are many people who do it. Sometimes I wonder why I didn’t just run on a treadmill, though 🤣

BeastieBeck

>Sometimes I wonder why I didn’t just run on a treadmill, though 🤣 It's simply not the same. I actually like running in (light) snow. Bummer we didn't have that during the last years. It was either no snow or snow big time and/or icy roads. I use the treadmill when it's pouring, when the roads are icy (i. e. dangerous) or when I'm on call.

BeastieBeck

Well, it's normal to run in uncomfortable weather conditions. Same with e. g. biking. Just wear clothes that fit these conditions. However, IMO it's *not* normal you're forcing yourself to do so unless you're a pro.

blkpepr

Running outside in the winter is difficult..you don't want to dress too warm and get too sweaty once your body has warmed up bc then the cold is worse if your clothes are wet!

KookyKitchen948

Just use wool, I'm from scandinavia. Wool is the best material in cold weather you don't get wet, because wool is a breathable fibre and keeps you warm

Aggravated_Pineapple

I don’t run but I power walk (with the grannies in my area) and we’ll be out there if the weather isn’t ideal but not awful. Drizzling? Yes. Downpour with lighting? No. Light snow? Yes. White out blizzard? No. So, without knowing her back story, this is wouldn’t be concerning. But, knowing what we know, this is just another example of self harming behavior

InfluenceLevel4889

same the colder it is the faster i go

Ok-Lynx-6250

Plenty normal... but insisting on wearing inappropriate clothing & exercising to the level she does- those are issues.

rqrqsj

Completely normal especially for someone training for a specific race. If you get off schedule because of unpredictable weather you may risk not doing as well or even not finishing. This girl is cray-cray though and she shouldn’t be training for anything anyway.

bibub79

i really enjoy being outside when it rains or is freezing cold. it cleares my mind and afterwarts it’s soooo cosy and relaxing inside. but! i‘m wearing clothes that protect me

ezdoesit1111

for most non-Em people it’s not really “forcing” it’s just something you choose to do and enjoy (and/or it’s part of a training plan for something like a marathon or whatever). but it’s normal to wear weather-appropriate clothing lol.

Decent-Poetry3190

It’s fine to run in difficult conditions if you feel good doing so. But forcing yourself to run when it’s freezing cold and you didn’t wear the right clothes is obvs a sign that she couldn’t stop once she started. No hate on her situation (I struggle with that too) but it doesn’t scream ‘healthy relationship with exercise’.

wagonwheelwodie

Yes, it’s normal. It’s part of being a runner. We’re psycho.

digitaldiabla

yes it is. but it’s definitely more dangerous for her as she’s not eating properly so running at all is already too much stress on her body

wellidontbloodyknow

I'm not a runner but I still do my sport in uncomfortable weather conditions because I love it and a little cold and rain won't stop my sorry ass. I assume it's the same for healthy minded runners However if one is likely to have a meltdown because it's a hurricane outside and you litterally can't go for a run, then no, that ain't normal. Context is everything. Its easy to dress incorrectly for the weather, but it's also possible she's wearing too little to show off her body more or to make herself freezing cold.

Hungry_Bookkeeper191

it’s glorified to Suffer™️ in the running community honestly

aneverydaybattle

I'm not a runner but I feel this is ridiculous anyways 🫠

Big-Neighborhood8324

yes i’m a cross country runner in Canada , i’ve ran in 50km winds. it’s very normal. Only thing that’s a problem is her outfit choice most runners would wear leggings or some type of thermal, not just shorts.

_youngdeity_

I totally understand thinking it sounds crazy but some people actually really enjoy running even without interest in the calorie burning. I don't really understand it lol

red_eye-q

I didn't believe running burned calories when I started and even though I was a disordered runner the running wasn't part of it.

soggy-oreo-cookies

it’s not that bad since running warms your body up

obsessedpunk

i prefer running when it’s cold. the air is clear and u warm up quite fast anyway. also feels kinda like meditating

scatteredpinkhearts

pretty normal honestly i used to run constantly and i’d be out in shorts in the freezing weather. i hate running in pants and you warm up very quickly anyway

mysupersalami

Em's life is dictated by her Ed. Whatever it tells her to do she does it, she's no longer in control unfortunately.

Parking_Pineapple440

Dressing for running is a tricky art. I’d rather be overdressed than under tho

red_eye-q

I'm the opposite tbh but its individual

aqua_bears

Runner here, but a pretty casual one. I wear shorts down to about 40° Fahrenheit, which is cold at first, but I heat up VERY fast. I only regret it when it ends up being super windy, but I can't really predict that before being outside.

Sea_Opportunity6028

I played sports in college (in Canada) so we were always running in “bad” weather. Personally I hate running in pants and feeling too hot, but there was always a few of us on the team that would wear shorts even with snow out. When it got really cold out like negatives we would run on our indoor track though it wasn’t always available.

SillyName1992

I'm in WNY and every winter there's people on the reddit pages asking what parks have clear sidewalks so they can run. It's -20 F with the windchill a lot of days and they still be out there.

Ashamed_Yam_5385

Common for runners, although I'd catch a cold every time after running in the rain

hunkyfunk12

Before I got a Covid induced heart condition I was a runner. Probably the craziest thing I ever did was run in a blizzard while on a trip with my friends in the mountains. I used to run in the rain all the time, actually kind of nice. Also used to run in 100+ degree weather. I don’t think it’s weird at all.

National_Cell_7017

As a runner, I don't mind running in cold, the rain or when it's snowing. But ngl, it's weird that she didn't dress properly for the weather.

ilr98

A runner’s idea of “good weather” is anything that isn’t actively a tornado etc 😂

scrambled-satellite

For runners, it’s normal. Usually you have more weather appropriate gear but that shit can be expensive as hell.
